I ordered this journal to help me start lifting weights. Today I worked outside putting away fall things.

Pound and more hiking with the dog.

Claire - look forward to seeing photos of your new place.
Ruth - interesting book. You'll have to tell us how you like the weights.
I made potato latkes on Tuesday and DH grilled chicken wings. It was the only night this week that son was going to be home for dinner due to his work schedule. On days he works if he gets home late, I don't see him as I leave before he's up and he is not home when I go to bed.
Wonder - trip to see DD#2 is very iffy. Even if borders open, DH does not want to quarantine for 3 days - and neither do I. They are very strict about quarantine in Israel. The police will call you, text you or show up at your door. If you don't follow the rules, large fine and foreigners banned for country up to 5 years. People thought they could be smart and leave cell phone at home and then go out when supposed to be in quarantine. So if police text you and you don't respond in certain amount of time, they show up at your door. I'll be pleasantly surprised if the trip is a go.
We broke a record high yesterday - 73 old record late 1900s. Today was 71. Son said that isn't really a good measure as today DIA is the weather station for recording temperature and snow - used to be Stapleton Airport and I'm sure before that down town. Snow amounts can vary between locations and DIA is pretty far NE from the city. Gorgeous weather but not for December 1st and 2nd.
The news is on in 10 minutes so going to sign off the computer.

Karen, it's Juju with the weights, not me

Took another dog hike this morning. We may be getting a snow storm starting tomorrow afternoon.......

M0mmy: Did you get your star topper on your tree?
Juju: The weight book looks interesting. I'll have to look into it.
Claire: The countdown is on!
Karen: I had no idea how strict Israel is on quarantine. They mean business!
Ruth: Your possible snowstorm is on the evening news.
Hi All. We had work done in our basement in March that required the paneling on one side of the basement be taken down. The huge storage unit there also needed to moved. So I had to take everything out of it. Well, all those things I took out are still out in the open bc the man who took the wall down is very slow in responding to when he can put the wall back up so I can get all that stuff back in the storage unit. It's been an eye sore. Also we had to move things in the garage and small workshop before the work in March could be done. All things in the workshop are in the garage on a table. I couldn't take looking at the mess in the garage so today I pulled almost everything out of the garage to clean, go through, throw away, sweep, etc. Took 5 hours! Still need to organize all the loose workshop things on the table that seem to multiple all by themselves.

Wonderland, I'm impressed. I know you're not finished, but it must feel really good to make progress. We've been going through a lot of books, music CDs, etc. and giving most of it away. DH is really good about taking stuff down to charity. I usually have to let it "season" in the back of my car for few weeks or months. LOL

I went to an early morning PiYo class, cleaned up, and shopped until I dropped. We are supposed to get a bunch of snow, wind, and cold temperatures coming in later tonight so I wanted to get as much done as possible ahead of the weather.

Sunshine: It's a great feeling to clean up, clear out, and organize. I'm more like your dh: get it out of the house before I think I need the items. We live in city limits and have city pickup for bulk items. We always put things out by the road hoping someone will want it and pick it up before the city does. Yesterday did not disappoint. We finished cleaning yesterday at 5:30 when it's dark. Sometime between then and 8am this morning, the good stuff had been picked up by someone. That always makes me happy.
Ruth: Smart for you to get what you can before the storm.
Meet dd this morning for coffee. We walked around town to look at the decorated storefronts and do a little shopping. Went to the landfill to dispose of old paint cans, old solvents, etc. that were cleared out of the garage. Then sat outside in 72 degrees and read.

I guess I am in good company here -- need to do my intervals runs on the treadmill (C25k) and strength train, but so far have been doing massive yet not enough cleanup in bedroom and on landing. Just ate lunch so not getting back on treadmill yet.
Also have a lot of masks to sew. Sigh. 2 layers of silk* in the middle and fitted over nose (with wire) and chin make them very good masks, but they are a bit of a hassle to make. But it does seem like we shall be wearing them for quite a while to come, so making cute ones for Christmas stockings.
I guess I can iron while I wait for lunch to settle...
I did row and do yoga yesterday.
* silk has natural electrostatic charge, which is how N95s are so effective and so tricky to reprocess. Given how the tissue silk likes to cling to itself, I figure two layers can only build up more electrostatic charge. Cotton outer layers, outside cute, inside cotton sheet as it is tightly woven.

Update: I did my run-walk while watching GBBO Christmas. Then did a very short and lazy strength session, and 2,000 meter row.
Now, my heart rate is up just watching fires develop in the Front Range in Colorado. I asked my mom (who is frailer than she is willing to admit AND is blind and lives alone on a windy narrow dirt road at 8,500 feet) to pack a go-bag and put it and te cat carrier by her door, at least, or consider spending the night at my sister's. Ugh. It is DECEMBER! And extreme fire danger.

That is awful, Yeslama! I sure hope your mother will follow your advice.
We did get snow, which looks prettier than it feels! Shoveling, Barre Sculpt, and Yoga for me.

Immediate fire danger dropping rapidly as wind has dropped and humidity has risen So that is good.

Thank goodness! It's very cold here. I went to Pound & then walked around the track at my fitness center. Boring, but at least I didn't freeze to the ground!

This came in as part of my Washington Post morning update...as a competitive swimmer into my 40's (think 2 mile ocean races!) I relate and now enjoy my walking/yoga/etc.

Yoga, Sun/Mon/Tuesday,
TaiChi today. Happy Wednesday. This is our last week of classes before the final exam period. I am ready for this semester to be over! TT

Interesting article, TT. I never was a competive athlete but DH was, so I know it is hard to switch your mindset as to what "exercise' means.
Barre Sculpt yesterday, I'll do Zumba tonight. Here's the Wednesday Women on a festive walk around a mall.

TrmTab- I enjoyed that article. I get restless doing yoga or pilates because I am not adding to my step count on my Fitbit. Or sometimes I don't want to meditate because I am eager to go for a walk. Now, meditation is not exercise, but it is part of my care plan that I created for myself. I also think it's important to do the types of exercise that one enjoys. So bike riding is something I enjoy (but doesn't help my bones), and it's great exercise. So I should find opportunities to bike ride.
I have every intention of going to the gym after work to do a little weight lifting, walk on the treadmill and maybe a little bit of spin bike.

Today I met with a friend and we walked 3 miles in 29 degree weather. The sun was out, so that made it better. We agreed to dress for whatever the weather is and walk every Wednesday. Tonight I turned on the Wii and did Just Dance by myself. My teens wouldn't be persuaded to join...their loss! It was fun! Also walked the dog. Almost 14K steps today.

TT - interesting article. I've never been competitive at anything - the only team sports I participated in was in junior high on a soft ball league and I was lousy - afraid of the ball hitting me. I was always athletic but not particularly skilled. Because I grew up in the cold, I learned how to ice skate quite young and we went toboggan riding - didn't learn to downhill ski till and adult. Playing outside was the norm for all us of on this thread. Bikes, roller skates, swimming pool etc. When I had kids, I was so shocked to learn about "play dates", kids just didn't pay outside with the other neighborhood kids. Today, my favorite exercise is walking and hiking when we go to the mountains.
Speaking of the mountains we are going up next week-end for two days. Our trip got cancelled so that is my winter vacation. I am so sad and disappointed - border closing has been extended another 10 days till the 23rd and who knows what will happen then. This darn Covid had now taken 3 trips to Israel. I guess I shouldn't complain as we have managed to stay healthy. My DD#2 is disappointed but none of us were surprised. DH says we will go longer in the summer - though not sure how long, longer is. Last summer we were gong 17 nights.
I'm behind on my paperwork for work. I am one of many who got a not so friendly reminder that our medicaid billing is behind and we are supposed to do it weekly. I went to log onto the program after dinner and the program is unavailable from 6:45 - 9:45 for maintenance. I'm not going to start at 9:45 at night. We are supposed to be caught up by end of the work day tomorrow. I will try to log on, tomorrow but usually I run out of time on Fridays grocery shopping, cleaning and cooking. And tomorrow I'm donating blood at 8:30am. When I told my husband, he said "that's late for you". It was the earliest appointment I could get - usually I try to go around 7:15 or 7:30.
The mountains are supposed to get upwards of 1 - 2 feet of snow. Denver is predicted to get about an inch. To count as measurable snow, we only need 1/10th inch. So far we are in second place for the longest without snow - 232 days. I think 235 is the record is I remember from the news at dinner time. Glad the mountains are getting it. If we get snow I want enough to count, not just enough that causes car accidents.

Karen, maybe you will have to retire so you can be available to travel at a minute's notice when the borders happen to be temporarily open (plus if they close while you're there you wouldn't care because you wouldn't have to be back at any certain time)! Very frustrating.
Four more cards to write, a house to clean, and some cooking to do today. The wife of one of DH's friend is ill (the horrible, horrible ALS). I have been trying to get a big meal with lots of leftovers over to them once week. It's pretty mild out so we will do a Dog Hike. Tonight DS, GF, and their dogs are coming over for a party because its Bruno's first birthday! I told a friend that the jury is out as to whether he will keep us young or do us in!
Mission Accomplished; Bruno & our neighbor dog enjoying the woods!

Bruno looks like he is having the time of his life. So very fun.
Karen, so sorry that you won't be able to go to Israel for the holidays. Not surprised though.
I am working on the checklist of the remaining nonprofit items which is getting shorter by the day. I think I have some consulting work queuing up for January, so will need to focus on getting my office set up with great internet. My current one was down a couple of mornings ago. I scowled at it and kept saying "Ziply" who do fiberoptic, reminding it that its days are numbered. I can't wait.
Yesterday, I went into Seattle to get suet for puddings, only to discover that the place is doing their own Christmas puddings so no suet. But I did get belly of pork for Rillettes de Tours. Plus, they had the dried wild mushrooms which cost the earth but are so delicious. Fortunately, I wracked my brain and found out who does have suet....and reserved some for this coming week.
It was an adventure getting there and back as I took the bus. I just didn't want to drive in the rain and wind. I had a wonderful lentil soup at a Lebanese place run by a husband and wife team. They were just delightful. I ate the soup outside on a picnic bench between rain showers. Plus, a delicious grilled flatbread with thyme and rosemary on it.
More later. Hoping I can get out and ski next weekend. Lots of snow in the mountains, but it's wet and the trails aren't quite set up. Not to mention that the roads are terrible and that the pass has been closed more than open the past several days. I will focus on getting my place move-worthy (read: cleaning out junk) and on Christmas.
Starting with errands that I will do on foot later today..... Happy weekend! - Claire

Karen: Are you getting the high winds today and tonight that are predicted for JeffCo? May your power stay on and no fires start!
Ruth: I swear Bruno is THE MOST photogenic dog ever! And looks like he is having so much fun with his pal too
Claire: I hope you get snow AND good roads to get you to it to play in!
Here we had freezing rain which changed to a foggy 37 degrees. Pretty dismal day. I did do an hour of yoga this morning. May I admit that I hate yoga? But it is really good for me. Why it was good to sign up for this 3-week class. I also rowed 11,500m on my erg. Did pretty much NOTHING else, and the house is a pigsty and I need to sew and then clean up my sewing supplies. We may go get a Christmas tree tomorrow, if it doesn't seem too slippery. Our hospitals are full (understaffing and a huge post-Thanksgiving wave of unvaxxed COVID), so can't take any chance of injury! Wish us luck with our eternal pledge to get a smaller tree this year! We have ten foot ceilings downstairs (old schoolhouse) and almost always somehow have a tree that is scraping the ceiling.
Work has been exhausting and stressful, which is probably why I am feeling so lazy and down today. But perhaps tomorrow?

Freezing rain & fog is enough to get anyone down! Good luck with the tree, you will have to post a picture once it is in place!
PiYo, Pound, and house cleaning today for me.

Yes - winds haven't been too bad by us. We are in the city so no fires in our proximity.
Ruth - borders are closed to foreign nationals entering Israel. If we were there when it happened, we would be able to leave. The country is not on locked down like early days of Covid.
Our flights are on Air Canada - they want a $600 cancellation fee - or full value with a travel voucher. We don't want the travel voucher as DH prefers flying United as he has premier status so better seats and better boarding zone. We have travel insurance so we would fill out a claim for the $600 and hope they approve it. I've been on hold with AC for 1 hour 25 minutes. The phone is on speaker so I can come here to visit. Too tired and drained to do anything more tonight. Will deal with this in the morning as well as my weekly banking.
Sweet dreams.

Karen, I once was on hold with Alligient for SIX HOURS!!! I did get the issue resolved in my favorite....but so very frustrating!

I haven't done anything about the ticket yet. Need to call the travel insurance again and see if Covid is a covered reason. Yesterday the person I spoke with said the claim is reviewed after it is submitted. Don't wan to cancel just yet if travel insurance doesn't cover. We will then have to take the voucher. Supposedly the voucher doesn't expire. These were some of the most expensive tickets we've paid in years. Even with travel insurance you loose money. Oh well. Going to call travel insurance once I get off her.
DD#1 had her baseline mammogram today. She said it was painful. Didn't ask her when she gets the results. I'm not worried, but Gd forbid anything is wrong I'd be devastated. But in my heart, I know all will be good.
In a funk/crappy/crying mood today.
Will keep you posted on the travel saga. BTW, there is talk about extending the travel ban for foreign nationals beyond 12/23 with stricter quarantine, but it's all speculation.
Have a great rest of the Sunday.

Sending you a hug, Karen.
45 degrees & sunny here. A beautiful day for a walk in the snow followed by yoga.

Karen, I am so sorry your travel plans are cancelled byCOVID again AND that the airline is being stubborn.
Ruth: You can never post too many Bruno photos as far as I am concerned! The ground here is bare again and we have another crazy warm week ahead -- into the 50s!
I did my treadmill running today, 3 minute run-intervals now. We also got a Christmas tree. The place we usually go we got there to find a "closed for the season" sign! So we went to another place we have been once before. It was very muddy, but it is a much bigger operation, so once we cut our tree we dragged it out to the main "road" through the place and someone came with a 4-wheeler towing a trailer and picked up the tree and brought it up to the wrapping station. AND we actually succeeded in getting a smaller tree -- only about 8' and we realized it woudl fit IN my Forester instead of on it!!!!
Didn't really get anything else done this weekend. Hope everyone gets off to a good start to the week!

Good job on the 'can fit in the vehicle' tree, Yeslama!
Off to Pound and errands. Something doggie this afternoon. 😃
