Happy Thanksgiving to USians here (and Happy Thursday to all the rest!)

FINALLY some snow in the forecast. I have been down with a bad cold this week, but this morning I got up and did 7.200 meters on the rowing machine. Then after popovers for breakfast, DH and I wrestled our new-to-us smaller snowblower onto the back deck, where it will live under a tarp when not protecting us from deck collapse this winter. Then after another rest, since I have high hopes of doing the 10k out in Colorado in May, I did what I had to do and did a treadmill couch to 5k session. Balance not good enough to run off the treadmill, but I am still hopeful! Pretty tired now. I did not manage any mask sewing or housecleaning or baking of mini-pies. Ah well, another time! Tomorrow I have strength training at 5:30 (ugh!) then will be a stressful day at work due to so many people out. DH gets his booster tomorrow -- YAY!

Hope everyone is having a nice holiday. I managed a yoga DVD before I started with all the cooking and entertaining duties yesterday. Today we took Bruno for a good walk. The weather here has been very nice!

Almost a 4 mile hike in 29 degree weather. Kept right up with our 12 yr old and his friend. Hiking poles ( adjustable) given by husband last year give me so much more confidence when it starts getting slippery and ground is frozen.

Did 10,000 meters on the erg this morning, partly coached session, partly finishing off GBBO* for the year -- now what will I watch while exercising?

Today is supposed to be a couch to 5k day on treadmill, but I also need to do a ton of housecleaning. DH is feeling rather clobbered by his booster, so cooking and cleaning is on me today. I also need to make a whole lot of masks. I do 4 layer masks with two layers of silk in the middle. The silk has a natural electrostatic charge, which is what also makes N95 masks so effective. The silk is a pain in the behind to work with though, so they take a long time. My masks also have a nose wire. Again, more time. But I want to have a bunch for Christmas stockings, since it seems we will be wearing them for some time to come.

I had a bad cold this week -- negative COVID x 3. It means that somewhere along the way I let down my guard though. Ugh. We are all so sick of this!

    * Had started watching the final last night while doing some drills on the erg

** speaking of baking... I also need to bake some sugar cookies with raspberry jam filling for someone at work who rescinded her planned vacation day on Friday because we were so short staffed. The trick will be not to eat too many myself!

Good luck with not eating the raspberry filled cookies. I would flunk that test for sure!

I went to PiYo and Pound this morning....trying to work off some gravy. I washed the floors and vacuumed (we had four dogs running in and out of the house the last two days) when I got home. Once all is in order, we will commense with the Christmas decorating.

SIL was discharged from hospital Thursday afternoon. He has a duodenal ulcer and that was the cause of the bleeding - nothing else found. He lost so much blood, so he needed 4 units of blood and he had 2 iron transfusions. It is so much easier for my daughter to have him recover at home than in the hospital. SIL slept most of the day today and is upset that he is so "white". Doctor told him it could take 2 weeks to get his coloring back. It will be a long recovery

Not ready to go back to work on Monday - had this past week off plus I took the Thursday before Thanksgiving - wondering if this is more and more of a sign that I should retire sooner than later. Haven't looked at anything from work since I left on Wednesday the week for TG, but will look at my calendar and emails tomorrow night.

Booked trip to visit DD#2 but it may not happen. Borders are closing for 2 weeks midnight Sunday night for 14 days. We don't leave for 3 weeks so there still is time to cancel. We took out trip insurance on flight and VRBO.

Lots of turkey leftover - it was small - 12# but even 6 dinners ( 3 people 2 nights) barely makes a dent in a turkey. DD#1 and I were talking about TG and counting back several years - the last real thanksgiving eaten at home was 2014. 2015 I was with DD#1, 2016 and 2017 I cooked but we took dinner to my late mother's apt, 2018 we TG on Wednesday and DH went to his mother then next day and 2019 we were cleaning out my late MIL's house. Last year was just the two of us so I only made a turkey leg and turkey wing. No wonder my turkey was so good this year! I brined it and the white meat was so moist. DS polished off the pecan pie tonight and I'm sure he'' finish the pumpkin pie tomorrow.

Holiday decorating is definitely exercise! We started yesterday & hope to be mostly finished today. I will take a break for my Barre Sculpt class later on this afternoon. I am curious (nervous) to see what Bruno thinks of a tree in the house!

Karen, glad SIL is home. It will be a long recovery. I'm glad you have insurance on your trip. What a mess the world is in right now! We must be heavier eaters than you guys because our 12 pound turkey & all the accompaniments were gone as of last night. In our defense, there was only one pie!

I did a 3 mile hike with 3 friends. The snow added just the right amount of challenge. The sun is trying to come out. Beautiful day!image

Juju-mar, that's beautiful! My DH's sister lives in Berrien Springs. I have it as a marked location on the weather app on my phone. When they were visiting one year (here in San Diego) I mentioned that it was "brisk" outside. Her husband just starting laughing at me. It's definitely all relative, right? We have a friend who used to live in El Centro, CA. When the temps plunged down into the high 50's, low 60's, he would see the kids wearing their parkas to school.

Thank you for sharing the photo. :)

Sunshine99, we hiked at 10am and it was 32 degrees out, but didn't feel terribly cold. The sun did come out and I walked the dog at 3pm and the wind was gusty, the temp was 37 but it felt colder than in the morning. We are in southeast MIchigan. Could be near 50 by Thursday. Up to almost 14K steps today.

A bit late to this party. Just knackered. Had a lovely Thanksgiving and also a Zoom and IPAs party with a male friend that went on for 7.5 hours yesterday evening. The poor guy was seriously hurting by the time we signed off. Wee hours of the AM for him, and I could tell that he has been seriously busting it recently. Great fun.

A bit of eye candy is always good for the ego.

Only walking this holiday, a not insignificant accomplishment during this time of incessant rainfall. No raingear this morning!!! Just bucketing down later.

Grateful for leftovers of casseroled pheasant, potatoes, and the chard that I need to cook up. Had tomato soup and pumpkin custard earlier to round out the veggie intake.

Hopefully, my last Thanksgiving of nonstop work.... unless of course, I am very well paid. I need to investigate what happened with the files upload I did earlier today that doesn't appear to be complete Sick

Love the snow pix. I will be skiing Lookout Pass in Idaho/Montana in a couple of months or so. Can't wait. A new life with new adventures.

Off to cook dinner and an early evening. Paying the Piper is the pits. - Claire

I am tired too. I went to Pound this morning and spent the rest of the day on the run. Bruno and I took a nap on the couch during the news and we both might be done for the day 😴

Karen: Glad that your sil is home. I can only imagine how weak and tired he is. Hopefully you can make your trip in 3 weeks.

    Ruth: Bruno is so soulful.

We had a nice Thanksgiving. Got to meet ds's gf for the first time. She fit right in with the family!

Walked/a little bit of running late this afternoon.

We took a nice hike (Bruno is now wearing a 'training collar' (beep, vibrate, shock options) when he is off leash, and that is helping him mind better and giving us more peace of mind. Barre Sculpt tonight.

Got the tree decorated. Have to figure out how to get the star topper to light up as the tree we have now is a pre-lit one and the topper is an old one.

Snagged my new digs today. Six weeks until I move. Beyond excited. In other news, I did my weights and crunches and walked about 4.5 miles.

I can now focus on decamping from the nonprofit, doing my consulting work, and celebrating the holidays! Great adventures await! - Claire

Claire - look forward to seeing photos of your new place.

Ruth - interesting book. You'll have to tell us how you like the weights.

I made potato latkes on Tuesday and DH grilled chicken wings. It was the only night this week that son was going to be home for dinner due to his work schedule. On days he works if he gets home late, I don't see him as I leave before he's up and he is not home when I go to bed.

Wonder - trip to see DD#2 is very iffy. Even if borders open, DH does not want to quarantine for 3 days - and neither do I. They are very strict about quarantine in Israel. The police will call you, text you or show up at your door. If you don't follow the rules, large fine and foreigners banned for country up to 5 years. People thought they could be smart and leave cell phone at home and then go out when supposed to be in quarantine. So if police text you and you don't respond in certain amount of time, they show up at your door. I'll be pleasantly surprised if the trip is a go.

We broke a record high yesterday - 73 old record late 1900s. Today was 71. Son said that isn't really a good measure as today DIA is the weather station for recording temperature and snow - used to be Stapleton Airport and I'm sure before that down town. Snow amounts can vary between locations and DIA is pretty far NE from the city. Gorgeous weather but not for December 1st and 2nd.

The news is on in 10 minutes so going to sign off the computer.

M0mmy: Did you get your star topper on your tree?

Juju: The weight book looks interesting. I'll have to look into it.

    Claire: The countdown is on!

Karen: I had no idea how strict Israel is on quarantine. They mean business!

Ruth: Your possible snowstorm is on the evening news.

Hi All. We had work done in our basement in March that required the paneling on one side of the basement be taken down. The huge storage unit there also needed to moved. So I had to take everything out of it. Well, all those things I took out are still out in the open bc the man who took the wall down is very slow in responding to when he can put the wall back up so I can get all that stuff back in the storage unit. It's been an eye sore. Also we had to move things in the garage and small workshop before the work in March could be done. All things in the workshop are in the garage on a table. I couldn't take looking at the mess in the garage so today I pulled almost everything out of the garage to clean, go through, throw away, sweep, etc. Took 5 hours! Still need to organize all the loose workshop things on the table that seem to multiple all by themselves.

Wonderland, I'm impressed. I know you're not finished, but it must feel really good to make progress. We've been going through a lot of books, music CDs, etc. and giving most of it away. DH is really good about taking stuff down to charity. I usually have to let it "season" in the back of my car for few weeks or months. LOL

I went to an early morning PiYo class, cleaned up, and shopped until I dropped. We are supposed to get a bunch of snow, wind, and cold temperatures coming in later tonight so I wanted to get as much done as possible ahead of the weather.

Sunshine: It's a great feeling to clean up, clear out, and organize. I'm more like your dh: get it out of the house before I think I need the items. We live in city limits and have city pickup for bulk items. We always put things out by the road hoping someone will want it and pick it up before the city does. Yesterday did not disappoint. We finished cleaning yesterday at 5:30 when it's dark. Sometime between then and 8am this morning, the good stuff had been picked up by someone. That always makes me happy.

Ruth: Smart for you to get what you can before the storm.

Meet dd this morning for coffee. We walked around town to look at the decorated storefronts and do a little shopping. Went to the landfill to dispose of old paint cans, old solvents, etc. that were cleared out of the garage. Then sat outside in 72 degrees and read.

I guess I am in good company here -- need to do my intervals runs on the treadmill (C25k) and strength train, but so far have been doing massive yet not enough cleanup in bedroom and on landing. Just ate lunch so not getting back on treadmill yet.

Also have a lot of masks to sew. Sigh. 2 layers of silk* in the middle and fitted over nose (with wire) and chin make them very good masks, but they are a bit of a hassle to make. But it does seem like we shall be wearing them for quite a while to come, so making cute ones for Christmas stockings.

I guess I can iron while I wait for lunch to settle...

I did row and do yoga yesterday.

    * silk has natural electrostatic charge, which is how N95s are so effective and so tricky to reprocess. Given how the tissue silk likes to cling to itself, I figure two layers can only build up more electrostatic charge. Cotton outer layers, outside cute, inside cotton sheet as it is tightly woven.

Update: I did my run-walk while watching GBBO Christmas. Then did a very short and lazy strength session, and 2,000 meter row.

Now, my heart rate is up just watching fires develop in the Front Range in Colorado. I asked my mom (who is frailer than she is willing to admit AND is blind and lives alone on a windy narrow dirt road at 8,500 feet) to pack a go-bag and put it and te cat carrier by her door, at least, or consider spending the night at my sister's. Ugh. It is DECEMBER! And extreme fire danger.
