A busy day here; we got a couple more inches of snow so I shoveled & then raced to the grocery store to finish up with the shopping before even bigger hordes of shoppers were out. I've been washing bedding, making beds, doing a little baking, made a casserole for the friend with the sick wife & now I'm going to Barre Sculpt followed by NOTHING! (I made the same casserole for our dinner.) Tomorrow will have to involve cleaning....yuck!

Top photo is sunrise this morning. DH took it with his iPhone8. The others are from hiking this past weekend

Love these, Karen! Winter is my favorite time of year.
On my end, the great news is that the project has been moved back 4-5 days. Makes all the difference in getting it all done. There is hope yet.
Definitely feeling Sunday's ski. Hope to get up 2 more days prior to the move. Wish me luck. Meanwhile, thankful that I made pot roast last week. Will be just marvelous with the fresh green beans I found at the supermarket on sale!!!
Ruth....Bruno is quite the handsome lad. I am sure that he will be quite "helpful" over the next several days. - Claire

Claire, Bruno is so tall that he can reach the kitchen counters with no trouble. Yikes! I put a folding table in my walk-in-closet and am storing the goodies in there. We'll see what happens when we are carving turkey, mashing potatoes, making gravy etc. (none of which can be done in a closet). The only way to train him to be a 'good dog' is to put him in different situations ,so I don't want to banish him to his kennel or the backyard or where ever without giving him the opportunity to behave.
Here's the Wednesday Walking Women decking the halls!

I was a bit late getting up for sunrise today. Karen, you must have been way early!8
Part of our snowshoeing landscape (yes, there was enough snow!)
Yoga this morning and a walk with Sammy

Karen & Heidi, your pictures could be made into lovely puzzles or postcards!
I'm off to Pound in a few minutes, will probably go to Barre Sculpt and Dance2fit tonight since I am going to be doing a lot of eating over the next week. I believe I consumed about a pound of gingerbread cookies yesterday......if I am exaggerating, it's not by much!

Heidi - DH took the photos. We are both up early. You photos are great.
Ruth - Bruno is a handsome dog. Love storing the food in the walk in and training him. We had two Bernard and the male could get anything off the counter. He wasn't as really as Bruno but he was craft. The only think he never took were bananas. One time he got a jar of peanut butter and manage to get the lid off and eat it all😂 Great WWW photo.
Been working in the house. So far have managed two tasks I wanted to do so that's good. One was to really clean/dust/vacuum our bedroom and bathroom. The other clean the pantry and counter. Found so many things in their that I forgot about - canvas and recycled grocery bags, lunch sacs, wicker baskets and more. Most went in give away. I need to start putting a list on inside the door what is in there!😂. Also taken time to read and bake. 3 batches of cookies this week. Oatmeal walnut chocolate chunk, chocolate pinwheel and quiaresimali. May make one more type cookie that I haven't made in several years and tomorrow a Bundt marble cake. All but the oatmeal cookies I haven't made in several years. Having sun around he eats so it is more fun to bake. He tells me and DH that we hardly eat anything. Sun normally is off T, W but this week he worked T but has the 24th and 25th off with holiday. So he will be home for Shabbat dinner so will cook pastrami brisket, grilled thighs and 2 kings gels (potato and carrot) plus asparagus and roasted Brussels sprouts. Will be lots of leftovers to eat throughout the week. I was going to make steak Saturday night as a treks but DS said he is hanging out with a friend all Saturday and won't be home till 7. He said he'd eat it when he got home. I said that I would save them for another night when he is off. DH and I will enjoy Friday “leftovers “ Saturday night. Wow, I've gone on way too long!
Heading to the furnace room and crawl space to work. Also I need to find time to read a couple chapters in book for book study by next Friday. I'm co-presenting after break. I have not checked work emails. Ya me! I've been also reading for pleasure.
Another warm day. Will go for a walk around lunchtime.
Have a great Thursday.

It started raining about an hour ago - not too hard so we might be able to get a walk in. Mountains are getting quite a bit of snow. SW mountains 2 - 3 feet and "front range" mountains 1 - 2 feet.
My Shabbat dinner is done - its amazing how much more time I. have when I don't have to go to the grocery store and I didn't even start till 10 or so and took a break for a walk. Lots of food that will take us through the week-end. Challah, roast garlic, green beans, asparagus, roasted Brussel sprouts, grilled chicken thighs, pastrami roast and marble cake. It will also serve as tomorrow nights dinner. We eat a light lunch all week so no different on Shabbat (Saturday) - generally tuna wrap, tuna on a salad or if we have left over salmon we have that. DS is home for Shabbat dinner so that is a treat for us. Tomorrow he is off and is spending the day with a good friend. He has today and tomorrow off with holiday pay.
One week of winter break is over and one to go. Enjoy having the time to work/putter in the house. And to relax and read.
To those who celebrate, have a happy, healthy and enjoyable Christmas.

Karen: Gorgeous pictures! That sunrise picture is outstanding.
Heidi: Love your pictures. Beautiful snow and blue sky. Thinking of you and your upcoming scan.
Ruth: Such a festive group!
Hi Everyone. Just a quick note. Been cooking all day for tomorrow for our family Christmas. That way I just have to heat up the food for dinner. Ds is coming in late tonight. Tomorrow ds, dd, and I will serve Christmas lunch to the underserved population in our community through the church I attend. The church serves a takeout lunch every Saturday. I've never volunteered for the lunch and I couldn't think of a better Saturday to finally help. We are looking forward to it.
Was able to walk/run yesterday and also late this afternoon. Wishing all of you the absolute MERRIEST!!!

Love the photos all!
Having an ice storm here, which is just nasty! I made popovers for breakfast, and got the cheddar biscuits in the oven right after. Have more cooking to do, but since it is just the two of us today I am feeling unmotivated. We got the lights on our tree but haven;t even gotten ornaments on it! Still have to wrap presents... And house clean.
Perhps part of why I am lacking motivation has to do with the more than 35,000 meters I rowed on Thursday and yesterday, to finish up 200,000 meters for the Holiday Challenge since Thanksgiving. I also had strength training yesterday. I had told my trainer ahead of time about all the rowing, including 10,000 meter "time trial" (I didn't try to race it!) before our session with a need to do 8,000 more after. She agreed to focus on upper body. HA! squats on the inverted Bosu ball, side steps onto chair, single leg deadlifts, pop-squats with resistance band, donkey kicks... etc. I am so proud that I could get out of bed today But other than wrapping gifts and facetiming with folks, no exercise today! Or possibly for the next week!
Busy at work. Sick of COVID. One foot in front of the other...
Merry CHristmas, Happy Shabbat, Happy Solstice, Happy Kwanza!

O my Dragon! And I was wondering why I was dragging last Tuesday. I am cooking up a storm today which should take me most of the way through the next week. I think the last real cooking I will be doing here. I can't wait to have a stove with a self-cleaning oven.
Got out for a walk earlier with snowflakes coming down. Magical. Caught up earlier with a few friends. Just fine doing Christmas dinner solo this year with all the general excitement.
Making a duck with cherry sauce, a batch of clean-out-the-freezer crumble for dessert. Cooking up the cherries for the sauce. They too were in the freezer. A pilaf of wild rice, emmer berries, and dried mushrooms (which also used up some of the stock stored in the fridge). Just fixed a parsnip to roast along with the duck in the oven...strips will be delish. Will start with a curried Buttercup (not butternut!!!) squash soup.
Then, I used up the stalk of Brussels sprouts left over from Thanksgiving. Will try Gordon Ramsay's method for braising them up with bacon, chestnuts, and red onion. GR says to pre-cook them which is what I will do differently this time. I cheat with the chestnuts and buy the precooked ones. One of the great shortcuts, right up there with good frozen pearl onions.
Anyway, a feast awaits. And then I can continue to feast for several days.
I can't believe that I am only 2-3 weeks away from the move. Lots left to do, but I have it in hand. This includes the two research projects.
Waiting for the rain to change to snow....so glad that I did most of the cleanout at the nonprofit yesterday. My focus now is on the future (other than a few odds and ends).
Merry Christmas everyone! - Claire

Out and about on this snowy Boxing Day. Channeled my Robert Frost (Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening) as I walked the 4 miles. Had I known there was enough snow, I would have done this on skis. But suspect I will have an opportunity this week. - Claire
Edited to add, did Part 2 of the Great Purge. Amazing how it's easy to close my bureau drawers now. Plus found a few terrific items I had forgotten I owned, one of which is a casual jacket that will be perfect for my new city.

Claire - I have a double oven and the top one is self-cleaning and I never use it. The last time I used it, it caused a problem with the lower oven. So I use oven spray cleaner. Your Christmas dinner sounds yummy. When is your move date? I know it is soon.
Wonder - so nice to help with the lunch at. your church.
Decided to get 3" cut off my hair today - it looks so much better.
We ate Beyond Burgers for an early dinner tonight and I'm still sooo full - miserable and I haven't snacked and really didn't eat anything other than the veggie burger on a bun with spinach and tomatoes. Wasn't as full with a much larger dinner on Friday night.
Tomorrow, I load up the car to take the donations. Then hope to see a couple girlfriends this week and work more in the house. I finished my book yesterday, so time to start a new one. I bought 3 earlier this month, so just need to pick one.

Hi Everyone! Thought I'd check in although I have done no exercise except shovel snow. We hosted a lovely Christmas Eve dinner with us, DS, his GF and 7 old family friends. It was wonderful to be gathered together in a more traditional manner. It started snowing later that night and by the time by brother & SIL showed up about 2 pm (they had been visiting her sister who lives north of here) we had about 8 inches of fresh snow on the ground and winter storm warnings starting Sunday at noon. We had a fun afternoon & evening, but instead of staying until Tuesday as they had planned, on Sunday they packed up & headed out mid-morning (they live about 5 hours east of us), which was smart because we got about 8 more inches yesterday....and are supposed to get 4 more tomorrow. Needless to say things are shut down & I've gotten my exercise by shoveling. Since I was planning on having guest in the house for a few more days, I have a dangerous amount of 'company food' sitting around!

So by my math, that is approx 20 inches on snow...yikes! Yesterday was 65+, today low 50's...we will bounce between 50-65 for highs over the next couple of weeks. Went to a gentle vinyasa class today, but the pilates instructor was there so that is what we had...good real exercise...need more of it because even without lots of company, the holiday does bring a lot of company food. Stay safe everyone, TT

Claire, love the photo of you with the snow.
The mountains continue to get snow but Denver is staying dry and brown. There have been wild fires.
Ruth, your Christmas sounds like a nice time 🎄
I told my son that I could make steak on News Years Day dinner. He commented “aren’t you going to make chicken wings and potato knishes”? Do that is Saturday night dinner. Chicken wings and potato knishes have been my New Years Day menu for more years than I can remember. My son works 5 days/week but is not home for dinner on days he works so I try to cook things he likes on his days off. DH is grilling chicken for DS as DS was looking for the leftover chicken to take for work today. DH is grilling so I don’t have to manage grilling and cooking our dinner. Speaking of cooking dinner, I best get moving

More snow, more shoveling, and now 'bitter cold'. I shoveled quite a bit this morning. I'm going to Barre Sculpt and Dance2fit in a few minutes. Time to get back into the routine!

Temperature and windchill both way below zero. I had the Wednesday Women over for breakfast after our indoor walk.....I'm trying to get rid of some of the Company Groceries! Zumba tonight.

Hi all: I spent the holiday in Tucson, visiting my son, his new wife, and her family. DS and wife, who eloped in May, live in New York City but came out to visit her parents, so we got a vacation rental nearby. We had a very enjoyable few days meeting the new inlaws and hanging out with DS and DIL. Tucson got a lot of rain but that didn't stop us from having fun and walking a lot in our 'neighborhood' and to see the outdoor Tourist sites (the Desert Museum there is excellent, and mostly outdoors).
We broke up the 7plus hour drive home to Santa Fe with a few days at Chiricahua National Monument: a beautiful spot for hiking and star gazing. There was some snow at night, but daytime was clear (but cold...though not cold by Ruth's standards!) and we got in some good hiking. Here is a picture. Chiricahua is amazing!
One more stop tonight, in Truth or Consequences, NM, known for natural hot springs. Our hotel has private outdoor and indoor mineral soaking tubs, heated to about 102 degrees. Soaked tonight, will soak again tomorrow before we head home. Snow is in the forecast in Santa Fe for New Year's eve, and I am planning a quiet evening at home. Would it be too much to hope for enough snow to snowshoe around my property on New Year's Day?
Good luck with the move Claire, and stay warm all!
Happy New Year!

Starting to go into the new year on the right foot. So far this week, I have done three 20 minute workouts on my exercise bike.

I'm pretty sure I will be staying home for New Years Eve, the high is supposed to be minus 8, 23 below at midnight with a minus 44 windchill. Argh!
I went to Pound, Core & Dance2fit today. I also finished off all the 'Christmas Food'. Because of the weather, my company went home early which left me with all this food. I invited my walking group over for brunch after we walked yesterday & got rid of some of it, sent a tray of cookies, fudge & breads off with a friend who works at the airport. They have worked long, stressful hours the last week with all the cancellations & delays, so I figured she & her co-workers could use a little pick-me-up. And I made cheese bread & wild rice soup today, which we shared with our friend whose wife is sick. Now we are back to a more normal/less rich diet.

Colorado is on fire!!! Over 500 homes have been lost in Boulder County. Whole neighborhoods have been lost. Strong, strong winds so nothing fire fighters could do. The Sheriff in Boulder County said it won't be over till the winds die down. So, so very tragic. I'm at least 30 - 45 minutes from where the fires are. I feel so helpless. Snow is due tomorrow and into Saturday - hopefully the fires will be out before then. We are so very dry - these fires started as grass fires.
Everyone stay healthy and safe.

Karen: My dh asked if I had heard from my friend in Colorado. He was reading about the fires on the Internet. I had just finished reading your post when he asked me. So I read him what you wrote. How terrifying and scary! Just like you said, please stay safe!!!
Ruth: It was 70 degrees here today. Cloudy, the air is heavy.
M0mmy: WTG!
Octo: Sounds like a fabulous trip!
Hi to All. Just a quick check in. Been walking/running a few times this week.

Karen, the fires are so, so scary. Stay safe!

I hope you get enough snow to get a handle on those horrible fires, Karen. Beyond sad & scary.
Wonderland, I talked to my N.C. sister today & she said it was oppressively hot & humid. She refuses to put the AC on in DECEMBER so is boiling to death! we babysat the grandpuppies tonight so had a very busy household!

I’m done exercising for 2021. My goal was to bike 2021 miles this year. Here’s what I did:
bike: 2836 milesRow: 176 miles
Walk: 64 miles
Elliptical: 14 miles.
Not bad for a year with 2 surgeries, months of radiation, and a pandemic!
0 -
Thinking of you Karen and hope you are okay.
Ruth, it's weird. The air is hot and humid but (to me) doesn't feel like the humidity of summertime. It feels different. I call it "wet air." So strange. I've turned on the AC in the car when I drive. Temperatures and air quality are supposed to return to normal for this time of the year on Monday.
Going to walk later today. Wishing everyone a Happy New Year! And better times for the health of the World!
Edited to add:
WTG Notascalm! Very impressive!
0 -
Congratulations, Notascalm, an awesome accomplishment!
Karen, the niece of a good friend lives in Superior. They were evacuated and are waiting to see if they will have a house to go home to.
It was minus 17 when I went to Shift & Lift, still the same when I ran a few errands, up to -13 when we went to lunch. We hired some guys to shovel the several feet of snow off our roof; and no matter what they charge, it will be worth the money. We are staying home in our sweatpants tonight & watching the ball drop on TV (if still awake). May the New Year bring us all good health and much happiness!
