Casinogirl - I remember you posting. Lori went into hospice earlier this week. She hadn’t been posting for a couple weeks. As/if I get more information I will share here.

May Lori's memory be for a blessing, as her life certainly was. She will get to shoot the breeze with Cami (camillegal) whom she visited and who left us a few years ago. Raising a glass to her tonight. (Perrier-Jouet Brut Rosé Blason). She'd have urged us all to do the same.

Sugar Lusty Heat Cocktail
Ingredients
1 oz vodka
1 oz gin
1 oz pineapple juice
1/2 oz simple syrup
1 egg white
3 slices jalapenio, thinly sliced
2 slices ginger, thinly sliced
1 lime wheel for garnish
Ice
Directions
- In a cocktail shaker muddle jalapeno, ginger, simple syrup.
- Add Vodka, Gin pineapple juice eggwhite. Shake until cold and frothy
- Pour into glass and garnish with a lime wheel

3 days left in the school year! Then on June 10th, I'm taking a one day PD. Really need summer break.
My youngest daughter went to Taylor Swift last night in Madrid. She texted her dad and me that it was the best night of her life. She went with 3 girlfriends - they are sharing a AirBnB. Tickets were by lottery last summer and Madrid had the best seats. Tickets were a fraction of the price than in the states. With her airfare, AirBnB, food and concert tickets less than one ticket in the states.
Missing Lori and thinking about her family. I'm glad she could be with them in her last days. She was a gem.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Saturday! I popped over to Mom's yesterday after she spilled a bunch of her pills while filling her pill box. Almost all her pills are round and white, so she can’t really tell them apart. Frankly, I need a magnifying glass to tell some of them apart myself! So I got that all sorted out, had lunch, visited a while, opened some bottles and jars and did a few other things she needed help with. By the time I got home the evening winds were blowing and rain threatening, so I didn't take the kayak out. Hoping to get it out this ayem, if it warms up a bit more and the breeze dies down.
I did not realize how much magic PT could do for joint pain until now! I've had right knee pain that varied from achy to almost impossible to walk for years, after a few weeks of PT the pain is actually gone much of the time, and much reduced with going up and (especially) down stairs, getting up from sitting is much easier, getting out of the car after driving a while doesn't feel like a real fall risk.

Karen--so glad your DD had such a good time at the concert. It's amazing to me that a ticket in the US can cost as much as a whole vacation! I'm glad Lori was with her family, too.

I'm gonna be offline for awhile—early this morning we were awakened by the smell of smoke (the detectors didn't work, despite fresh batteries). I was in scrubs & rubber sandals, Bob was in his undies & barefoot. By the time he hung up with 911, the sirens were already blaring—we live 2 bl. from the fire station. 3 engines, all the neighbors were out (they were preparing for a yard sale that got rained out). House is still standing, everything intact except for the roof (they punched a hole to vent the smoke), the rear of the kitchen and the rear of the basement. But it's uninhabitable for an indeterminate length of time due to smoke smell. We packed up the cats and whatever we could manage and are in a suburban hotel for the next week & a half and then a long-stay suite hotel in River North till mid-July. After that, State Farm will look for a temporary house, townhouse or large apt. They estimate the repairs, de-odorizing, and repainting could take through December.
It started in an outlet on the rear wall of the kitchen—it was old & ungrounded (was not replaced in the 1989 re-wire) , and the flames went down into the basement. The CFD put it out fairly quickly. So Bob & I and the kitties are holed up in a 2-bed room for the time being. They still smell of smoke, and the wipes I bought from Petsmart are not getting the stench out. They've just started grooming themselves, though they are eating, drinking, and excreting quite well. They are supremely bored—we did have to buy them a new cardboard scratcher (the ones we packed were smoky) and ball-track toy.
Amazing how much you think you brought with you at a time like this, but how much more you have to buy—all my OTC meds (we grabbed the strongbox with the Rx stuff and put the Mounjaro into an insulated bag with ice packs), all my makeup, all but one pair of pants each (Bob couldn't find long enough ones at Target tonight—we'll try Costco tomorrow), and whatever the laundry service dropped off last night, still in plastic bags. We are going to have to buy stock in the makers of Febreze. I did bring my computer and all my iPads & chargers; Bob brought one computer but still has to go back tomorrow and grab the office computer and the new laptop he's never used. We spent a bundle at Petsmart & Target (and since the hotel has no restaurant, just breakfast, we dined at Outback tonight—first thing we ate all day). I went to bed at 3am Fri night and we were out in the street by 6am—so "exhausted" doesn't even begin to cover it. Bob got to bed at 11pm and I had to wake him. He's snoring away to beat the band right now.
We move downtown the day after my excision surgery—and moving day is also the day of my mammogram. Lots of rescheduling, rearranging (mail, utilities, prescriptions, etc.) in order. State Farm, its restoration and temp housing contractors, and the Red Cross have been wonderful, as have our neighbors.
Might check in once in a blue moon if I have a moment to spare. Oh, and our HK made it down to B'ham today—we were talking while she was pulling out of Louisville.

Morning, Loungettes! Happy Sunday Funday! The puppers and I got totally lazy
yesterday and didn't do anything other than bake a rhurbarb custard. Cooked off
one in a separate dish to take to Mom to try, but Zoe helped herself to it
while it was cooling. I have got to learn to put cooling foods on top of the
fridge or be sure Zoe is in eye sight all the time! Hoping to be more
productive today.Chi--oh
my goodness! I am so glad you and DH and the kitties are unhurt. I never
realized it takes so long to repair/renovate after a fire. Scary that the smoke
detectors didn't work. Thankful for the swift response of the fire department.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday! The puppers and I are enjoying a lovely stretch of weather. So nice to sit on the deck and read and watch the puppers playing/napping/supervising the neighborhood. I'm still trying to find someone to do my yard work this summer, the people I've talked with so far have wanted far more money than I think is reasonable. Either that or I need to invest in a lawn mower that I can start myself and start mowing my own yard, which wouldn't be such a bad thing, I do need the exercise after all.

Ingredients
- 1 oz Tequila
- 1 oz Absolute Citron Vodka
- ½ oz Triple Sec
- 1 cup orange juice
- splash Grenadine
- Ice

- Fill a glass with ice

Oh! Pacific Rim! I remember when they were part of Bonny Doon Vineyards. We used to be Doonies, and I saved a few of their bottles that featured Ralph Steadman's art. We became less impressed when Randall Grahm got bored and sold it. Their Sirrah Syrah was one of my favorites for a long time.

It’s a warm day here and I am trying to relax a bit after doing a little housework and going crazy with classwork. Thought I was done for the week with my assignments only to discover this morning my English instructor added another assignment early this morning! So now I am in scramble mode to get it all done! School is out for the summer! I have a PD on Monday and then nothing school related except submit my paperwork for renewing my CDE (Colorado dept ed) license for the last time ever - it's good for 7 years!
Going to the mountains today till Sunday morning. The weather is HOT in Denver so 70s will be wonderful.
DD and GD are coming for 10 days later this month.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Thirsty Thursday! Another beautiful summer day coming through here. I was all set to take the kayak out yesterday when Mom called, she got some message on her phone that she didn't understand, after an hour of trying that message couldn't be found/brought up. Based on what she could remember about what the message said, which was sketchy, I think it was an automated reminder about a Walk In Care bill that she supposedly paid weeks ago. By the time we got done with that and I got a bite of lunch a severe thunderstorm warning was up for my area. I did get to watch/listen to a nice thunder-bumper, then dreamed last night about lightning hitting the house, except it was the house I grew up in, not my current house.
The other day I watched Stephen King's Firestarter on Netflix and it brought back the memory of going to the movie's premier in Bangor. It came to light later that the actual premier took place in the town where the movie was filmed, not in Maine, and the Bangor showing was actually the second showing. Still, lots of dressed up folks, limos dropping people off, media attention from all the national networks. It really brought home to me how long ago that was when I saw a recent picture of Stephen King and realized how much he has aged, and how much I still picture him in my mind as I was used to seeing him then. Did you know that Firestarter is the only movie made based on Stephen King's novels that he did not have a cameo appearance in?

Easy Pina Colada
Ingredients
- ▢6 ounces (178ml) pineapple juice
- ▢3 ounces (89ml) coconut cream coco real cream of coconut
- ▢1 ½ ounces (45ml) light rum
- ▢1-2 cups crushed ice
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into glass and serve garnished with pineapple slice and cherry.

Piña Colada
Ingredients
- 6 ounces white rum
- 6 ounces cream of coconut (preferably Coco Lopez brand)
- 6 ounces pineapple juice
- 1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks (see How to Cut a Pineapple)
- 4 cups ice
- 4 ounces golden or añejo rum, optional but recommended
- Pineapple leaves or wedges for garnish, optional
Method
- Blend:Place the white rum, coconut cream, pineapple juice and chunks, and ice in a blender. Process until totally blended.
- Pour:Pour into glasses and top with and top with the golden rum (it should float on top), if desired.
- Serve:Serve with pineapple leaves or slices as garnish and serve immediately.

We have had an electric lawn mower (Ego, I think) forever. Love it. I mowed the back yesterday and will do the front today. SO easy with batteries! We do not have self propelled and it is still easy to use.

I'm not big on horror/scary movies but glad to hear that S.King is doing well. After that horrific accident, it is nice to know he's mending and continues to produce work.

I didn't realize that Stephen King did cameos in his movies. Cool! I knew about Tarantino and Shyamalan, and of course Stan Lee in almost the complete run of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But that was a new bit of trivia for me.
I was big into King in the 90's, but fell off while he was finishing the Dark Tower. This is a really interesting video showing how all of Kings novels leading up to DT are interconnected in the DT world.
