Thank you for this info! Would lymphoma nodes also appear malignant or just enlarged? I’m dealing with an inflamed right axilla node, appeared benign on u/s, but am referred for a biopsy. Mammogram and u/s found no abnormalities in breasts. I was curious that if it’s ‘more than likely’ benign, could it be something else, like lymphoma.

@Wen513 I'm dealing with a similar situation- One palpable reactive lymph node that I felt and which led to a diagnostic mammo and ultrasound. Both came back clear thankfully, but I have to go back in 6-8 weeks and see if the lymph node ( I think there are actually 3 of them that were larger than they should be) return to normal size. I received a Birads 3 and it says "probably benign". I'd love to know the accuracy of a radiologist in predicting this based on an ultrasound alone.

The radiologist who used to post here said ultrasound is a great tool on lymph nodes and being able to see if they are just enlarged or abnormal. Birads 3 is estimated to have a less than 3% chance of being cancer

    Hi,

I had Mx two years ago following g DCIS (no chemo as oncotype nor large enough to measure). Last Jan I noticed a raised area near site of mx and was worried about lymph nodes. Ultrasound came back clear.

I went for annual check today and ultrasound showed enlarged lymph node in same area. They did a biopsy and graded it 4/5. Anyone else in the same situation?

  • When I was diagnosed in May '22, I had an enlarged lymph node that was given a BIrads 5. The biopsy came back benign. Follow-up CT scan in March '23 showed the lymph node is unchanged- still enlarged- but no growth. The radiologist confirmed it as stable and benign.

    Hello everyone,

I just turned 60 years old Female

Ok I have a couple questions I was hoping someone might know the answer too? Experience? Thoughts ?’

Going back three years ago I had an ultrasound done of my breasts and axillaries and my report came back as non-typical for lymph nodes and I tried asking for a biopsy and was refused even though my lymph nodes at that time were over 2cm . Ok fast forward to this past week I had another ultrasound because I felt another lump on my left side armpit that was feeling a bit of a pull to it so my Dr scheduled an ultrasound both breasts and both Axillary ( note lymph nodes still swollen on the left side. Results came in and on the report it’s missing any measurements and stating all small cysts. Also saying that they are fatty proliferation in the axilla. Bi-Rads 2 ok so you would think nothing to see here right? Well then I sign into pocket health to look at my photos and the pictures I see don’t seem to match what the report is saying or lack of saying and many lymph nodes are over 2cm. On my left side I have a chain of solid lymph nodes from top of my armpit down the side of my LEFT breast with with measurements of 1) 1.78 x 1.48cm 1) 2 cm 1) 1.48 x 1.14 cm. 1) 1.16 cm these are a solid chain. Not painful and if I take a picture I can see them bulging on my skin plus there are multiple cysts in my left breast. This was the side I originally wanted a biopsy off.

Ok now on the RIGHT breast I have a few cysts in my right breast and I’m use to those coming and going but in my Axillary I have: 1) 3.64 x 1.71 cm. 1) 1.97 cm 1) 3.98 x 1.31 cm 1) 1.41 cm in the right axillary. Now I’m not sure what the rules are for size for biopsies?

SIDE NOTE : the 3.98 cm x 1.31 cm solid mass with vascularity ( this has grown to this size in less than 16 months) none of them are sore.

Another side note: my left leg has swelled up along with the right leg with edema and bumps around my ankle and up the leg with the left groin having two solid lymph nodes 1: 1.54 cm 1: 2.23 cm vascular

My clavicles are both swollen as well.

I’m not sure if I’m going crazy but would this be considered biopsy worthy?
it has its own blood flow ? I’m getting the runaround because the report said all fine.

Do these look fine and what if I get the runaround again about my lymph nodes breasts, Axillary.

I need your help with this please ☹️

    Thank you

Hi @tamtam, We are not doctors so we can’t give an opinion about your imaging. It seems like you have been dealing with enlarged lymph nodes for a while. While breast cancer is one possible reason for enlarged axillary nodes there are many other more common reasons including viral/bacterial infections, allergies and autoimmune conditions like lupus or RA. The issues you are currently having with your leg suggest that the problem may be systemic. It is also possible for axillary lymph nodes to be cancerous without being swollen (as in my case.)

Radiologists will not call for a biopsy unless they see reasons to rate the imaging BIRADS4. If you don’t trust the report you can take a CD of the images to another radiologist for a second opinion. Since there does seem to be a problem it might be worth consulting an allergist/immunologist, rheumatologist or hematologist (possible lymphoma) to try to find the cause. I hope you can get a diagnosis. All the best.

Thank you for your help Maggie it’s very much appreciated. I never thought about it that way and will definetly look into it.
my apologies for posting pictures I thought with the icon at the bottom that it was allowed.
it just feels I’m at a standstill and stuck in a loop here and can’t get further than where I’m at. I will check into what you have suggested and see where it leads me.
    big hugs 🤗
