    Hello ladies...I'm home (as if you were concerned). I have got to check out all the other spots to see what has happened while I was out. How's the troll today? Still lurking about, I take it? And what happened to Nickii? Did the troll bite you?

    Yep.. you do have good beer up there ... have any of you ever had Sierra Nevada beer ? The brewery is my local brewery and it is sooooo good. Pale Ale, Celeration Ale, Wheat Beer ... those are the three most known.. but they make 20+ different types... good stuff... especially on tap at the brewpub!

    Just home and just checking in also - read most of the Unity thread. I suppose that's where the excitement was today. I am off work until next week so I will have to check in a little more often!

    HERO! Where'd you go?? Your Oscar story was hilarious. I could just see that fish being carried around! Hey, I hear you about the drinking. I can't stand to be hungover - and the HOT FLASHES are just making me a mess! Maybe I need to inquire about some Effexor or Wellbutrin or SOMETHING! My onc is going to give me the sly-look when I ask him "What can I take so my hot flashes aren't so bad when I drink?" LOL! I wonder what he'll say? I see him in August!

    Lupron-type shot tomorrow. Gotta love that stuff.

    If you're comin' to loot our beer you don't need to do that, ya know. Canadians are nice. And polite. Yes, we are known worldwide for our politeness. (I suppose you've gotta be known for something.) So we're only too happy to share our beer with our fine neighbours from the south.

    shel - I had two drains NY eve 04/05 and I asked the ps if I could drink that night. He said as long as I didn't "get drunk and pull them out" lol. I was getting ready to start chemo the next week, so I took what he had to say and had a few wines and of course, champagne at midnight.

    Shel, I see your problem as not having enough alcohol in your body when you're doing these tasks! If you get drunk before attempting them you won't feel as much pain when you drop things or catch your drain tube! HTH!

    Hmmmm, I cannot speak about Chicago pizza, never had it. But I can speak about New York pizza. The size of the slice alone is unbeatable, if not eaten correctly, the entire topping will wind up on the plate, thick, wonderfully oiled down to offset that slab of melted cheeses. Real Italian sausage, loads of tomato sauce...Then the white pizza at Patsy's in Brooklyn, in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge...so good.

    I guess we're all eating pizza today.

    PIZZA WARS! That's why I really can't say, cause I never had a Chicago pizza. One thing I do know about N.Y. pizza, you have to really be in the right restaurant. I've been disappointed a couple of times.

    Actually, if you lessen up on the cheese, pizza could be cholesterol friendly. But what fun is that? Everyone is up early today, just say pizza and we can hear it miles away.

    Have had NY and Chicago, they are both famous styles of pizzas, but totally different animals, like apples and oranges. I grew up eating what we call St. Louis Thin Crust, and it is delicious, thin and crisp, so yet another style of it's own. No complaints on any of them, just all so diff.

    I play. In fact, tonight is ours also. We're called the "Bunco Divas", and we pass around a cheesy tiara that says DIVA when you get a bunco. It kills your head when you wear it. You know how much "it hurts to be beautiful". We've been together for about 4 years now. All met during the stressful times of raising teenage daughters. Tell me about your group. I'd love to hear all about it.

    Hi,
    I've started a site collecting cancer survivor stories. I am trying to host a thousand stories as I realize the importance of hope and inspiration in fighting cancer. It is absolutely free to share the stories and I will hopefully try to get a book deal with a publishing company once I collect the thousand stories. IF you really want to inspire others, please go to www.mymomhascancer.com

    I just started the site so please be kind enough to initiate the response.

    Bunco is a game of dice with 12 people.

    http://www.worldbunco.com/history.html

    It's an excuse for 12 ladies to get together, eat, drink, and laugh. Lots of fun. My mom played when I was a little girl, I joined the group after high school graduation for about 6 years. Was a sub. for a while,took a break and now have been playing with a great group of ladies for the past 4 or 5 years.

    taco dip!

    spread soft cream chees all over a fancy/shallow plate
    spread a layer of sour cream over the cream chees
    spread a layer of salsa or pico de gaillo (herdez is my favourite brand)
    layer over with shredded monteray jack
    sprinkle with chopped tomatoes
    sprinkle lastly with finely shredded lettuce

    buy a big ole bag of blue corn nacho chips and serve on the side for dipping

    easy and goes with everything and no
    "cooking" involved! where is your cottage......we have one in bayfield.......its beautiful "up" there!

    Yum...that sounds so good!! I love the Herdez brand too!! And I love pico de gaillo!!

    This is my friend's cottage, not too far from home, only about a 60 minute drive and I should be there in 45 or less (the friend who is driving me has a Mustang and she drives it like it's meant to be driven!! ). The cottage is on Lake Simcoe, right up near Jackson's Point. Bayfield is gorgeous ~ friends of ours had a cottage there years ago. My grandfather used to have cottages in Haliburton many moons ago. I wasn't really going to go tomorrow but then thought, what the heck. I deserve the time away. The one woman who is going pours wine like it's water ~ I will have to be very aware of what I am doing for sure!

    Today we were gonna get out the mega blender and do all kinds of fresh fruit margaritas, No time for reading with this group. Maybe the expected rain will pass us over and the sun will shine on as we float and "soak up the sun" as our sister Cheryl would say. I LOVE Sundays!

    Hearing from Ter really puts some of the other crap into the shadows for sure. I don't post on the unity thread, but I have been reading & Mithel is a jerk for sure. Haven't been on there since Fri. - I hope you dissed him good.
    Getting tired of seeing Deneb's stuff all over the place too. Just too depressing when you know what some others are going through right now. Ronda

    WOW! I haven't been on this thread in a long time! Glad to see so many others have decided to join us drinkers who posted early on in this thread (no one likes to drink alone)

    I have been laying off somewhat lately totally in an effort to lose a few lbs. Leaving Sat 7/1 for Fla w/ BF and will spend July 4th in Key West.....probably hang out with Jimmy Buffet and drink margs. I expect a call from him sometime this week to work out the details. (Don't I wish???)

    Rest assured I'll be drinking with someone LOL!

    Cheers,

    'Bout time you got back here! Too busy with the new man?

    And you don't have to be drinking alcohol to hang out here, we have fun without it - sometimes!

    Hey Janis - yes, been hanging out with the new man. And drinking of course.

    Two weeks ago I decided to go on the South Beach Diet and the first two weeks NO ALCOHOL! I made it 8 solid days. I think it's the longest I've gone without it since I was about 12. Not really, but it's been a while, for sure. Even during chemo I'd have a glass of wine here and there. Thank God that sh*ts over and I can fully appreciate the taste of my wine again. And beer. And vodka. And rum.

    So, Janis, exactly what is it you do that you get discounts on wine and expensive cheese? Is your company hiring?

    Sounds like you need to have a party and invite all your sistas.

    I work for Whole Foods. The pay isn't great but our food is and with my discount it's actually cheaper (and healthier) to shop there than the mainstream chain stores. Gotta love the discount on beer and wine also but no liquor so I just buy my scotch at the local liquor store.

    I did have a Summer Solstice celebration - where were you? Oh, that's right, in/on the wagon with you man!

    If anyone ever wants to have a party at my house just come on over! I have two spare bedrooms and two very loving dogs. Oh, and my yard is fenced so you can't get lost!

    I'm also a newbie. I had a lumpectomy weeks ago but the node was positive and the margins weren't clear. I go in for a modified mastectomy tomorrow. We were having a farewell boobie party this weekend in Galveston and everyone said you have to stop drinking during chemo. Say it isnt so. We are already giving so much up. I'm not a heavy drinker but like a fruity martini a few times a week. Please tell me I can keep one think normal in my life.
    Love this site. At first, there was a bit toooooo much info but I'm getting immune and info greedy.

    Hi,
    First time posting to this thread but had such a fun weekend with my family and...rum!

    A friend sent me flowers after my surgery and it was the neatest thing. A 10 cup margarita glass filled with some odd green liquid and on top was a beautiful bouquet of white flowers with straws sticking out and fake lime slices. Well the flowers died and my husband went to the liquor store. Two of our sons were home this weekend along with the one's girlfriend so we decided to play scrabble and my husband made a 10 cup pina colada with 5 straws! We took pics and had a great time! Wasn't to happy in the morning but it was worth it!

    So set them up Joe, I got a lot of things I want you to know...

    I know I never told this story before here. So what the heck.

    My mother was a bit of a Gracie Allen. She had to go to work everyday at 4PM so getting her out of the house after school was always a chore and very chaotic. Button this, find the other shoe..

    Well she gets on the bus, all is well. She has to change buses and forgot to ask for a transfer, so she gets on the new bus and rummages in her purse for money, and nothing is there, empty. She just paid the other bus so where did it all go???

    She yells out OMG, I've been robbed! Another passenger watching all this, tugs on my mother's jacket and points to her other arm...

    She had two purses, one on each arm. She was probably wearing two different shoes also.

    Just thought I'd share. Are we going to name our pub something special?

    Hi girls,
    I don't post much here but I sure enjoy the conversations. My reconstruction is tomorrow and I have really missed having wine for the last couple of weeks! Since DIEP involves tiny blood vessels they told me not to have alcohol or caffeine for 4-6 weeks afterwards either. WTH??? I understand it but geez it is gonna be hard. Am I whining too much or did anybody else make it that long?

    Been there once - 20 yrs ago almost! Drove past the arch, thought that was too high up for me! Did go to the Anheuser Busch place tho - saw the Clydesdales, drank some beer, had some sauerkraut on a hotdog, walked through Union Station (I think that's what it was called).
    We don't do big cities much anymore. We've slowed down alot, even before the bc dx. We do get to Hillsdale SP in Kansas occasionally, not far from Kansas City. How far is that from St Louie? Or what lakes / camping sites are within driving distance of both of us? Most of the MO places I know about are further south. Ronda

    Ronda - you don't have to think about us once, and I promise we won't get our feelings hurt. We love you to pieces too! Now, go have FUN! Don't eat too many jalepenos on the road...you'll be making many a pit stop if you do! LOL

    OMG that would have been SO much fun!!! I had a hard time choosing a colour for the toes and then dropped the little card with the painted nails in the foot bath!! No, there was NO alcohol in the tea cup! It was herbal berry tea (I don't think there was soy in it either!! ). So the pedi ended up being Opi "She sells sushi by the seashore" (Opi comes up with the craziest names!). The hands are a french manicure and the 30 min. aromatherapy back massage was BLISS!! She asked if I'd like a scalp massage too (should have said yes, might have promoted hair growth!!), but I said no because I was afraid I'd never want to get up off the table!!

    Sherry, I'd had to take her up on the scalp massage - even BALD! teehee! I LOVE for my mom or my sister to rub my head. Just feels good. When I had hair, I used to LOVE for my sister or mom to brush it, braid it, whatever...I love it! So, I'd probably NOT gotten up off that table, but that would have been her problem, right? LOL!

    Christine - I'll have to do that...that'd be nice!

    I would love to get a pedi, but after 10 yrs of getting pedi's done, it caught up with me. Last summer, the salon I've gone to for several years did my pedi and the girl clipped my toenail too short on one side- well, my toenail ended up getting infected underneath, after a month of pain, I finally went to the doctor and it turns out that I had gotten a staff infection and he had to take off half of my toenail! OWIE! I went back to the salon to show them (all I wanted was an apology and some sign of good customer service, nothing more), the girl doing my nails went to get the manager and he sent her back with the message "sometimes we make mistakes". What? Then he disappeared until I was gone. I paid $250 to have my freakin toenail removed because of their mistake and not so much as an apology? Whatever! Now I'm mad, right? Well, my attorney said not to do anything until the toenail heals, because I can only make them pay once. Now I'm going after them to pay my doctor bills...I may want to throw in some "pain and suffering" as I haven't been able to get a pedi in almost a year now. Well, wouldn't you know, I've never had flippin toenail fungus? Now I do! That nail grew back 3 times thicker than normal, off color, ICK! I always have had such pretty nails! In the summer I kept them done every 3 weeks with cutsie little designs on my big toes. Well, my onc won't let me have it removed again until treatment is over because of risk of infection - she gave me some cream to put on it to try and kill the fungus, which isn't really working...I'm not too happy about it! I miss my pedis! They are SO relaxing. AND, I have to continue to wait, until my toenail heals to get these people to pay, because I will have more doctor bills from it now. Boo-hiss!

    All that said - Sherry, I hope you don't get staff infection or toenail fungus - just a pleasurable experience! Sorry for the ICK-factor!

    From drinking to locality to nail fungus. I guess they are all related. I too, experienced some nail fungus, on both big toes after chemo (4 x AC only) Now they are back to mormal, one of my best features. Cutest toes, I've been told and some men with cray feet fetishes have come to me because of them - Whatever! I am glad to have nails and hair!

    I'm glad to know the fungus can "go". I've got that in one nail from chemo ~ just lovely. Hopefully mine will disappear as well. And it sounds like you had quite the time with your salon Marla!! It seems like people don't want to take responsibility for anything anymore. And I checked ... the girl was very thorough about cleaning everything she used ~ thank goodness. I didn't even think twice about writing that. I am a restaurant manager. There is always the post shift drink. Also,we have one group on Tues nights that we do tasting menus for, they bring in their own wines (very rare, hard to find and expensive) These guys are spoiling my taste for grocery store wines, which I usually stock at home.
    One of the perks, in exchange for working weekends and lots of hours?

    Christine,
    I kind of figured that it would either be a restaurant, a swanky salon, or something artsy. Nice to have a perk here and there.

    I haven't laughed so hard in a long time as I have after reading all 23 pages of your posts! When I was first dx back in February, I was treated at a cancer center in San Francisco. I began to feel like a total lush -- every new doc and nurse practitioner I saw asked questions about my alcohol intake: how many drinks per week? Well, let's see, two or so glasses of a day, times seven, OMG I'm a total lush! I found myself not quite being honest. Thanks to all for allowing me to feel not quite so ... guilty.

    Had my first AC round two weeks ago, second round tomorrow. Nothing tasted good, especially wine and beer, until last night. The half=empty, re-corked bottle called me so I poured a glass and, wow, it tasted great! Back on the roller-coaster tomorrow.

    Thanks for the smiles, ladies. You are awesome!

    Goldschlager is like cinnamon shanps, man i should not be able to drink it if I can't even spell it. My darling hubby got me hooked on it years ago. It can be very evil though so be careful.

    The other day on my way home from my Herceptin treatment I had a Carmel Appletini, from Applebes. Oh my God it is heaven on earth, girls you should try it.

    Hi Randi,
    Since we're talking schnapps, my vice was root beer schnapps. Reminded me of root beer floats with ice cream on top.

    B-52's made with 4 liquors. Kahlua, something, something and something.. ( I love this stupid pill we take each day) One of the liquors was clear. A layered drink.

    Shel will know.

    Hi to all my drinking buddies. I'm not big on sweet or fruity drinks, other than those with cranberry, pomegranate, or grapefruit juices. Anybody have any ideas on tart, sour, or refreshing drinks? Something that doesn't make you want a glass of water afterwards because you have a lingering sugary taste.

    C'mon I know you guys can send me some great recipes to try.

    The only refreshing drink I could like was boring. Just a vodka, tonic and lemon.

    Which reminds me of the time my husband and I were out to dinner, and I ordered that drink, I take a sip and it was so refreshing, I drank it down in 2 gulps. Waiter sees I'm empty would I like another, sure. Down that one goes. My husband is looking at me, Hey it tastes great what can I say, gettin a little tipsy.

    The waiter comes back and I tell him that's the best tasting vodka I ever had - what's the name of it? He says, Oh, you wanted vodka in that?

    My favorite summer drink (for now) is Spiked Raspberry Lemonade:

    1 1/2 oz Bacardi Limon
    3/4 oz Chambord Liqueur
    3 oz sweet & sour

    mix all ingredients in a glass over ice. Stir.

    Top with 1 oz of 7up (diet or regular)

    squeeze wedge of fresh lemon. ENJOY!

    Very refreshing on a hot summer day. I don't actually measure out anything, I just start pouring it all in a glass until it suits me. Or, you can make a pitcher!!

    And if you want to "kick it up" a bit, I also add some raspberry Absolute.
    WARNING: If you decide to drink the "enhanced" recipe, be prepared to just hang out and be useless. (I speak from experience on this - trust me.)

    Go Donna, Go Donna!

    Ooohhh, Donna, sex on the beach? (and I'm NOT refering to the drink)

    Before my current love interest I dated a guy who lived out in Santa Cruz, CA, and we'd go at it all the time (go figure me and a man! ) and one time we were lounging on this beautiful (and secluded) beach just off of Highway 1 and no one else was around as we had to cross a rip tide to get to this place and of course we decide to do it. It was hot (the temp, a sunny hot day in CA) and we did good about not getting rubbed raw by sand. We looked up the cliff and noticed that there were people way up there but we didn't care!
    So, that's my sex on the beach story. No alcohol though.

    And thanks for the recipe Donna as I'm definitely gonna try it out this summer when I want to get blotto when my home remodel is driving me crazy!

    The only sex on the beach I've had came in a glass w/ ice. I'm hoping to have the more abrasive sex on the beach next week! (and by abrasive, I mean in an exfoliation kind of way)

    Surely we can find a secluded spot SOMEWHERE between Miami and Key West. And more than likely, there WILL be alcohol involved! (We're staying in Miami for a couple of nights, then renting a car and driving to Key West)

    Hopefully I'll have some good stuff to post on the Mojo thread!

    Until then, I raise my margarita to all my drinkin' sista buddies and again say Cheers!

    Effexor is what I'm on and what's making me react so differently when I drink ! (That, or age ...LOL)

    You do NOT want Effexor - actually, I'm going to talk to my ONC and see if I can get weened off ....my hot flashes were SOOOO bad at first, but since theirs no way to know if I'm in natural menopause, I'd like to 'see' if I could handle the flashes on my own. Then I'd only deal with the Arimidex and Zoladex shots.

    We are NOT supposed to drink when on these meds..."alcohol consumption may intensify....blah blah blah"

    So, I start with two beers, then have a cordial, then want to keep drinking, so I go on to the Whiskey..
    THEN I get stupid drunk but, atleast I'm in control

    WHEN GIRLS DRINK TOO MUCH............
    1. WE HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHERE OUR PURSE IS.

    2. WE BELIEVE THAT DANCING WITH OUR ARMS OVERHEAD AND WIGGLING OUR BUTT WHILE YELLING "WOO-HOO!" IS TRULY THE SEXIEST DANCE MOVE AROUND.

    3. WE'VE SUDDENLY DECIDED THAT WE WANT TO KICK SOMEONE'S butt AND HONESTLY BELIEVE WE COULD DO IT TOO.

    4. IN OUR LAST TRIP TO PEE, WE REALIZE THAT WE NOW LOOK MORE LIKE A HOMELESS HOOKER THAN THE GODDESS WE WERE JUST FOUR HOURS AGO

    5. WE START CRYING AND TELLING EVERYONE WE SEE THAT WE LOVE THEM SOOOOO MUCH.

    6. WE GET EXTREMELY EXCITED AND JUMP UP AND DOWN EVERY TIME A NEW SONG PLAY'S BECAUSE "OH MY GOD! I LOVE THIS SONG!"

    7. WE'VE FOUND A DEEPER/SPIRITUAL SIDE TO THE GEEK SITTING NEXT TO US.

    8. WE'VE SUDDENLY TAKEN UP SMOKING AND BECOME REALLY GOOD AT IT.

    9. WE YELL AT THE BARTENDER, WHO WE BELIEVE CHEATED US BY GIVING US JUST LEMONADE, BUT THAT'S JUST BECAUSE WE CAN NO LONGER TASTE THE GIN.

    10. WE THINK WE ARE IN BED, BUT OUR PILLOW FEELS STRANGELY LIKE THE KITCHEN FLOOR (or the mop?)

    11. WE FAIL TO NOTICE THAT THE TOILET LID'S DOWN WHEN WE SIT ON IT.

    12. WE TAKE OUR SHOES OFF BECAUSE WE BELIEVE IT'S THEIR FAULT THAT WE'RE HAVING PROBLEMS WALKING STRAIGHT.

    This was e-mailed to me I thaught it was cute. Although I haven't had a night like that in a few years! ( I hope it is not out of line )

    Disclaimer: blah, blah, blah

    Subject: Baptist Cowgirl!!
    >
    >
    >A cowgirl, who is visiting Texas from Arkansas, walks into a bar and orders
    >three mugs of Bud. She sits in the back of the room, drinking a sip out of each one in turn.
    >When she finishes them, she comes back to the bar and orders three more.
    >
    >The bartender approaches and tells the cowgirl, "You know, a mug goes flat
    after I draw it. It would taste better if you bought one at a time."
    >
    >The cowgirl replies, "Well, you see, I have two sisters. One is in Australia
    >, the other is in Dublin . When we all left our home in Arkansas , we promised that we'd drink this way
    >to remember the days when we drank together. So I'm drinking one beer for
    each of my sisters and one for myself."

    The bartender admits that this is a nice custom, and leaves it there.

    The cowgirl becomes a regular in the bar, and always drinks the same way. She orders three mugs
    and drinks them in turn.

    One day, she comes in and only orders two mugs. All the regulars take notice
    and fall silent.When she comes back to the bar for the second round, the
    bartender says, "I don't want to intrude on your grief, but I wanted to offer my condolences
    >on your loss."

    The cowgirl looks quite puzzled for a moment, then a light dawns in her eyes
    and she laughs.

    "Oh, no, everybody's just fine," she explains," It's just that my husband
    >and I joined the Baptist Church and I had to quit drinking.
    >
    >"Hasn't affected my sisters though!"

    Of course this does not apply to you and me, but you may
    want to pass this on to other people to warn them.

    Liquor manufacturers accepted the Government's
    suggestion that the following warning labels be placed
    on all varieties of alcohol containers:

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may leave you
    wondering what the hell happened to your bra and
    panties.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may make you think

    you are whispering when you are not.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    WARNING: The consumption of alcohol is a major factor in
    dancing like a retard.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may cause you to

    tell your friends over and over again that you love

    them.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may cause you to
    think you can sing.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    WARNING: The consumption of alcohol may lead you to

    Love this one:

    Why females should avoid a girls night out after they
    are married!

    The other night I was invited out for a night with
    "the girls." I told my husband that I
    would be home by midnight , "I promise!" Well, the
    hours passed and the margaritas went down way too easy.

    Around 3 a.m., a bit loaded, I headed for
    home. Just as I got in the door, the cuckoo clock in
    the hall started up and cuckooed 3 times.

    Quickly, realizing my husband would probably wake up, I
    cuckooed another 9 times. I was really proud of myself
    for coming up with such a quick-witted solution, in order to escape a possible
    conflict with him. (Even when totally smashed...3 cuckoos plus 9 cuckoos totals
    12 cuckoos MIDNIGHT!)
    The next morning my husband asked me what time I got
    in, and I told him " Midnight". He didn't seem pissed off at all. Whew!
    Got away with that one!
    Then he said, "We need a new cuckoo clock." When I
    asked him why?, he said, "Well, last night our clock cuckooed three
    times, then said, "Oh , shit.", cuckooed 4 more times, cleared it's throat,

    cuckooed another 3 times, giggled, cuckooed twice more,

    and then tripped over the coffee table and farted."

    Yep, work was BUSY!!! Everyone was buying stuff for the long weekend! I, of course, have to work again Sunday AND Monday but I'm off Tuesday!

    It's now scotch hour (cocktail hour and dinner hour being loooong gone) so if the party hasn't already begun then let it begin NOW!

    Janis,

    If I may pick your brain since you've been around here longer than I have. I read the Rules by Melissa thingy. So will we be in trouble posting dirty jokes and such? I thinking as long as they are in the right forum it would be okay. Any one who doesn't like the topic doesn't have to read, right? I'm fairly new here and finally am feeling "normal", no that's boring, "happy". I don't want to be a naughty girl and get in trouble. I just want to be naughty, but nice.

    Oh lawdy! You're not gonna get me to paraphrase the rules. I'm too smart for that! I suppose if you START a post with a "disclaimer" (as I've seen Lilia do on the humor boards) then you're okay but don't quote me on that. I assume (mistakenly perhaps) that the debat board would be "more free" than the others but that's just my assumption and not necessarily the "rules." Some here try to be what is refered to as 'board police' with no real cause - or authority - just because they need to be in control I guess. The rules are posted at the top of each thread but as we all know the "rules" are stretched and as long as no one objects all is fine but as soon as someone does then we have to adhere to "the rules."

    Does that help? Feel free to PM me for clarification. I think some "stuff" is happening elsewhere - is that why you ask?

    The way I see it when I need some spiritual guidance I go to that area and don't expect the fun and games. If I'm enjoying a couple of drinks and need some company I go to drinking area and expect fun, games, and even a litte naughtiness. If I need some nutritional advice I go there, but just yesterday one of my posts was deleted for what reason I know not. I'm really confused as to what is appropriate and what is not???

    Well, you could ask Melissa why that particular post was deleted but she might not have the time to answer you. Many of my posts have been deleted and I think it's just because they were a part of a 'group' of posts that were deemed inappropriate to that subject. Not sure which one you're referring to as SO many have been deleted lately.

    I'd guess that you're safe here but again do not quote me please as I don't know that for a fact!

    So, I say, just relax. Play among friends. If an 'unfriendly' person aproaches then post with caution.

    Does that help? I'm here to help! Being one of the 'older' sisters here I'm always available for guidance!

    Now, on to something completely different.....

    Peace,

    Enjoy your summer vacation Ginna!

    I have been absent from this thread for days ~ but I have a confession to make. Tonight I committed a sin. Yes, I did. I had my merlot with dinner tonight ~ gulp ~ I'm not even sure I can bring myself to say it ~ from a tetra pak!!!!!!!!

    And it was "okay". It was certainly drinkable. I just never thought I would go that route. But it's meant to be "environmentally friendly" and it's all the rage in Europe now (this one was from France). I was going to buy a chardonnay for those at dinner who like white (also thinking I wouldn't be wasting an entire bottle ~ ha, like there is ever "waste", but you know what I mean!). A very nice gentleman was walking past me, saw me with the bottle of Lindeman's chardonnay and checking out the Australian tetra pak (I believe it was called White Alice) ~ he screwed up his face and told me I'd be very disappointed, that all he could taste when he tried it was the packaging. So I stayed with the bottle.

    But I took the plunge, tried tetra pak Merlot from France and it was "okay". Hopefully I will still be considered a wine snob by those who have deemed me as such all these years. I would hate to be "de-throned"!!

    Yes Shel, I do! It comes in a 3 pack and I used one ~ perfect for picnics, and tossing in suitcases (I commented that it looks like a rolled up pair of socks and would fit nicely tucked in the corner of a suitcase or backpack for hiking) and I'm sure breast fills (although I did not see that one listed on the label ~ have we not though, learned through bc to be creative and invent new things as we go along?!)

    Good luck with that ~ I know you are not looking forward to it, but think of the end result ....

    Question for you ladies. I just had two beers and want a cocktail now. So is it:
    Beer before liquor never sicker,
    Liquor before beer never fear.

    Or

    Beer before liquor never fear,
    Liquor before beer never sicker.

    I don't want to get sick and miss the fireworks. Maybe I should just stick with the beer, but it is so filling.

    So, I'm sticking with the beer. I found this on a website.

    SOMETIMES "OLD WIVES" ARE RIGHT!

    You've heard them and we'll tell you why they're true.

    "Don't mix liquors"---Mixing up the types of alcohol you consume makes it almost impossible for your bod to separate them for metabolizing.

    "Beer before liquor, never sicker. Liquor before beer, never fear"---The carbonation in the beer causes the body to absorb the liquor much quicker and takes it to your head faster.

    Hey sistas - checking in from Key West. I am SURE I have you all beat on the "who's been the baddest of them all". Last night after having a bottle of wine with dinner, BF and I went to Durty Harry's and listened to an ass-kicking rock-n-roll band where I continued to live it up and started on Grey Goose & tonics.

    Anywho - a waitress walks by with a tray of jello shots (oh yeah, had one of those too) and I made BF stand up (we were sitting at the bar, which is in the front of the place, so everyone could see us - glad I don't ever have to see any of those people again) and I take the jello shot, unzip his fly, place the shot inside his fly, then squatted down and sucked the jello shot. I am sure from about every viewpoint in the place, it looked like BF was getting a BJ.

    Don't remember stumbling back to the Key Lime Inn....geez...really outdid myself. Can't believe I wasn't barfing after the combo I drank. BUT - I'm in Key West, so whaddya gonna do? Hair of the dog baby...

    Still haven't had sex on the beach yet (not the drink) but I'll keep you girls abreast...

    Cheers everyone and Happy 4th of July!!!

    OMG! Yes I really did the jello shot from BF's fly.

    We're having so much fun here, we've decided to stay at least one more night, maybe two. We just have to be back in Miami by Sat afternoon to catch a flight back to reality (aka boring ole Oklahoma).

    So - I don't expect to top what I did Mon night, but ya never know...

    We took the "Ultimate Adventure" tour today. Took a catamaran w/ about 80 other people out to the reef. We snorkled, parasailed, jet skied and kayaked. Just waiting for BF to get out of the bathroom so I can shower and I think we're gonna check out the Green Parrot. It's a dive bar here that's supposed to be loads of fun. Wonder if they have jello shots there....

    I will do my best to either make you all proud of me or totally embarassed to say you "know" me. Only thing is, there's not a lot of beach in Key West so we may have to get creative..

    Cheers everyone. It's 5 0'clock somewhere.

    I'm going on vacation in one week and am trying to drop 5 pounds by next Thursday, seeing as that's about how much I'll gain on vacation. I usually have a drink (beer, wine, cocktail) every night, two or three on the weekends. I can maybe drop 3-5 pounds if I stop drinking for the week. Or I could literally starve myself, have a drink and maybe lose 2-3. Shoot I hate being fat!! I don't even eat that much anymore.

    Hey ladies - I'm back from the lake. We had a blast. Had my LAST CHEMO today!!! Yippee! I'm done with Rads & Chemo now...on to life with no active tx...since I'm a triple neg girl! Keeping my fingers crossed and jumping back into life with both feet, once I get past the "icks" of this chemo tx. Hope you all missed me so! I know I missed all of you on the boards!

    Donna, you bad, bad girl! Sounded like a BLAST!!!

    Hi Marla,

    I don't think that we've exchanged posts yet (met?), but I'm not very good at keeping names straight. Either way, I know I'm going to like you. You came to the "how about drinking?" forum to say that you're back, right? Happy that you had your last chemo today. Another bridge crossed. I bet that you were missed. You sound like a BLAST!!!

    Good comeback!

    I say as long as you don't drink enough to pass out then it's okay.

    Welcome back Marla and congrats on finishing chemo! Yea!

    It says you are fun and like to have a good time!!!

    The only reason I'm not drinking this week and want to lose some poundage is because once we're on vacation it's bloody marys in am, beer during the day, and cocktail hour(s) in the pm. Oh my, then there's an extra 10 lbs. when I return. LOL!!

    Yosemite next week. I really don't get to travel much. I have two kids in college and another that plays club soccer, so most of the money goes to them.

    I have treated myself to a nap almost every day since my dx. One of the things that I do for myself now.

    Hey there ladies - haven't written for awhile - been going thru HELL! Last chemo treatment blew a vein and now have phlebitis! Ended up in emergency for 16 hours before they sent me home. Have to give myself injections for the next six weeks and I hate needles! Couldn't have chemo this a.m. because of the phlebitis. Having a port-a-cath installed next week! Does it get any worse than this!!!!??

    Tonight, celebrated this bullsh*t with a marguerita! YUM! Was going to have another but DH keeps watching me like a hawk! Think I'm going to become a closet drinker!

    And talk about naps my day starts at 8H00 and by 11H30, I'm going down hill!!! This just sucks! Oh, I hear DH snoring - think I'll have a nightcap!

    Nite nite ladies!

    My DH watches me like a hawk also, only it's not the drinking. It's everything. Be careful, don't fall, get out of the sun, watch out, etc. etc.

    Sorry about your phlebitis. That sucks!!! Hate that word, but it seems like I've been using it more lately.

    Enjoy the nightcap!!

    Yummy. . . Maryland crabs are the best. Of course now I can't pick them for fear of cutting or scratching my hand/arm (lymphedema) but I *can* still eat crabcakes, crabpuffs, crab soup, crab dip, crab-stuffed mushrooms, etc.

    I'll raise my glass of merlot to you ~ just thinking about going to light the barbecue for burgers and a nice salad...before everyone takes off in different directions...

    an appetizer would go so well right about now....

    Janis,

    Are you sober, too?? This is night #3 for me. Geez, I have such a bad headache that I know a beer or two would take right away, but I must win the bet. Don't even know what I get if I win, but as long as I win it doesn't really matter.

    Well ladies, it's 1:34 a.m., hell of day - they decided to install the port-a-cath this a.m. and give me my chemo cockail and now of course, I can't sleep!! To top things off I can't drink either - I'm on the wagon for awhile, how long not sure, saw the crab and beer, it got the mouth watering - looks so good! If someone is out there tonight - have a night cap or two for me! I'm so glad this sh*tty week is over. I hope my string of bad luck is finished! If not you can be sure I'll be off the wagon!

    Lini,

    You can do it! It's just one week - you can drink all you want in a few days! I'm on the wagon with you and we can fall off together.

    Time for yardwork (lawn, gutters, weeding, etc.). Yuck. Good thing I'm not hungover!

    Okay. I may have found new friends. I was recently dx-ed. Surgery is 07-25. I love an occasional beer, wine. In fact, I have a great bottle of pinot grigio and some Sam Adams Cherry Wheat beer in my frig right now.

    But the doggone "research" says that "we" are not suppose to drink!! Huh? I thought a drink or two a week (esp red wine) was supposed to be good for cardio health. Do I really have to go back to drinking Cheerwine and Mountain Dew?

    Loss of hair, weight gain from meds . . . that I can handle. But no beer or wine? I am very sad.

    Advice appreciated.

    (((Jodi)))

    I hear ya girl! When I heard I had to give up my alcohol I was like "WTF?" but my chemo nurse told me (and I'm sure my onc too but my chemo nurse was my captive audience during A/C) that if I wanted an occasional glass of wine (or whatever) it would be okay.

    Well, I found that during chemo I really didn't want any or much alcohol at all. Wine tasted like crap (I'm back to normal now thank gawd!) but I was able to tolerate an occasional Marguerita (it was Summer after all!) when I went out for Mexican food. I didn't miss drinking any more than I missed anything else that my taste buds couldn't tolerate. I figured that my body was telling me what not to do so I listened. That was just me though so I hope you fare better!

    Good luck to you! I'm one year out and I can honestly say that one year DOES make a difference!

    Janis ~~ geez. This all sucks very much. BC is even worse than I thought (lmao). I am having friends over tonight for my "going away" (geez that sounds yucky) dinner. I am leaving Tuesday to go to NC for the pre op tests and surgery.

    YOU CAN BET I will have a glass of wine tonight. I will need it. I will be doing most of the comforting and reassuring!

    Jodi-Welcome!! This is a fun and interesting place to make new friends.

    Vera-You are welcome aboard, the raft, that is.

    Janis-Just wondering how that wagon ride is going? Got back on and have been doing good. Don't think I'll lose the 5 lbs. though, but maybe 2 or 3. Better than none.
