    (((Nicki)))

I'm off today. Didn't ask to be but that's what I got so I'm gonna go hit the malls in search of some bargains. No drinking for me tonight as tomorrow I have the early shift - blech! I sat around x-mas day watching Lifetime (oh, did I cry!) and also revamped my resume and sent it out to a few places. Hopefully 2007 will be better for ALL of us!

    Cheers!

Donna.....4 couples went to Jamaica Dec 3-10, a Sandals at Ocho Rios and yes I climbed the Dunns River Falls!! Love the all-inclusive kind of resort, one price and all the booze you can drink. (The gonja cost extra teehee) What about you, where did go/stay? I don't cook much either...I'm not bad at it but have to be "in the mood" for it and go figure, THAT rarely happens. DH is well trained in frozen dinners, hot dogs, and pizza hut on speed dial. LOL Marsha

Just a quick "Hi" to all. Spent all of Wed/Thurs last week, shopping wrapping and drinking wine, of course. Worked Fri night and for a lil while on Sat night, as one of my hostesses called in sick at 4:15pm, the nerve!
Did the family thing on Sun and Mon. WOW, Santa was so good to me, I cleaned up! My family always over-gives to me, I guess because I buy so much for all of their kids and I have none.
Welcome Marsha, this is the "Funnest" thread, in case no one has told that yet.
Junie, dying to hear about the "wine-orita" I never heard of that before, where did she find it?
HOPE EVERYONE HAD A VERY HAPPY HOLIDAY FILLED WITH LOVE!

image This is my 2006 Christmas Pic. Guess I don't need a drink after all or maybe I do? I spent about 4 hours in ER Christmas day but at least I made it to Dinner with the family! Oh did I eat all the things I shouldn't have but I was a good girl and didn't have that drink after all.

Scooter, my cat is trying to help me type. I think he wants me to get off and pet him.

Yeah I sat down Christmas eve and my leg hurt I had a big knot just about where the edge of the chair is. It hurt so bad I took a percocet and all my other pills and went to bed. then decided to really check out the rest of my legs. Found lots of little bruises and another spot on the other leg. Call the on call Onc and he said it should be OK for the nite but I should come in to get them checked for clots, Well of course it Christmas so everyone is closed but the ER. I did have the Doppler US today and NO CLOTS! Yeah!! I have a call in for the Onc to follow up. Oh and I have to increase my coumadin which makes me more prone to bruising! Go figure! It's all due to BC. I never had problems with clots before the BC treatment.

Enough whining, I really would like a glass of wine right about now.

Hope all had a great Christmas!

Anyone heard from Lini? Last I heard she was hiding in the corner of the fruitcake tent and Niki was throwing walnuts at her?

Well since I can't drink I think I'll take my meds and go have a nice long sleep.

Cheryl - glad no clots! But what a crappy Christmas! Hopefully, next Christmas will be better for you!

No drinks in the hospital? What kind of hospital is that anyway?

Question for you ladies please. I enjoy drinking red wine very much, and just completed my 5th TAC treatment on last Thursday. I got a little carried away on Christmas Eve with the wine and now my white count has bottomed out to 0.8 today. It did the same thing last time after a week or so of drinking. I don't overdo it all of the time, but I miss being able to drink my wine. My oncologist says that it kills your white blood cells and bone marrow. How much alcohol did you allow yourselves while undergoing chemo? I only have one treatment left! Thanks!

Sorry, can't help out on this one as I didn't drink during chemo. I know, VERY hard to believe but I just didn't have a taste for it at that time. I am now making up for lost time! My onc nurse did give me permission, though, for light drinking, maybe one glass a night. HTH.

Like Jaybird said I think a glas a night would be ok if you still have the tastebuds for it. I know they said I could have a glass of wine if I wanted too. But alas I can't drink now because of the coumadin. But I may brak that rule after I get my levels figured out. If Niki can do it so can I!

Even though its 6:30 am I had to come and check in on everyone.

Cherycy: I am so laughing. I think once you get to the "therapeutic mode" with the Coumadin they will allow a drink or two.

Janis: Ok - so I went to a Whole Foods store yesterday in Deerfield. Pretty neat!!

Isutiegersgirl: I didnt drink during chemo either. Not cause I didnt want to. I totally lost the taste for it. I remember my onc told me a glass of red wine wouldnt hurt me. Good luck through your chemo. I hoping your almost done.

    Have a good day everyone.

ok I guess I am the bad one here because I did drink during chemo. I didnt drink everyday but I always drank a beer the day before my chemo. It worked for me and my oncologist also showed me research that people that drink have less side effects from chemo. I played into the research because other than tiredness I was never sick.

Wait, I am in chemo now,,stupid me and I am drinking. I guess I didnt consider my second time around. Having hair seems to make you forget its chemo I suppose. Ok drinking now and having no problems and my nurse asked me the other day if I smoked like a chimney and drank like a fish,,I just laughed and said well, I dont smoke. She laughed too and said well whatever you are doing it must be working because your bones are drastically improving.

I DID drink during chemo. (Shocker, I know!) I wasn't slamming shots or anything, but I'd have a couple of glasses of wine daily if I felt up to it, which was most of the time, especially during the first half of treatment. I handled chemo freakishly well for the most part. My sister said all the drugs I did in college helped prepare my body for it. She's SO funny!

I wish we had a Whole Foods store here in Tulsa. We have Wild Oats, which sounds like it might be similar.

Anyone have any fun NYE plans? I have none for now, which is fine by me.

    Cheers ~

Cool Randi! Congrats to you! I, too, am job searching for a new job so wish me luck!

Donna, my plans are to work until 6:30 (blech - Universe, please send me a new job in the new year!) and then watch the Bears game. SO many people are pissed off at the game time change but it works for me! I'll be plopped in front of my tv with some wine and cheese with my dogs by my side and probably alseep before the New Year rings in. On Monday I'm going to visit with my dad & step-mother and show them pics and video of Avery! A boring life to some but not for me.

    Cheers!

Amy...I do love my beer...It actually helped the day before?? I am lovin' that! Was that a beer, six pack or did you just go the kegger route? My mastectomy is tomorrow so my NYE plans are a bunch of friends coming to my house since I won't be going to theirs. Probably won't remember it with the pain meds/booze in my system and just hope they don't write all over my face with a magic marker when I pass out! Marsha

My onc didn't want me drinking much during chemo. He said that it was ok for me to drink a little on the third week before my next tx. He said it was because of the white cell thing also. Now that I'm 2 years out of tx, that's a different story !

I have been eating and drinking my ass off! DH and I are going on a MAJOR diet after the New Year. I feel like such a slug. I haven't had time to exercise like I used to and it is killing me! I really need to get back into my routine.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas. Mine was just as nuts as it always is. My new SIL has passed out both times we have been with her and we were totally expecting she would do the same on Christmas, but she surprised us all and stayed upright. She can really put away the wine! Jeez, almost as bad as me.LOL

My BIL and his wife always stay over when they visit, so we stayed up half the night, drinking wine and watching Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Man's Chest. I felt like the army marched through my mouth the next day. Bleah !

Hope everyone is fine and I'll check in later!

Thank you all so much for your comments! I have heard varied opinions. You girls are a great bunch and I wish I had come across this sight sooner, but better late than never. I will be a regular from here on out! I am currently on anbitiotics as of today, so hopefully I can get my temp under control and possibly have a few glasses on New Years Eve! I have been saving myself for that for a couple of weeks now! I don't think red wine has ever tasted as good as it does now! And surprisingly enough, I have not lost my taste for red wine or Miller Lite! I can't wait until I can drink again like I used to, and not have to worry about damn blood counts!!!

    HI Ladies,

Ok i'm trying to catch up, but had some wine, and well you know how that goes. Anyho.........one of the girls on the boards, Roza is real sick, so I drove out to find her house and left a note on the door, hoping she will call me and let me know if me and some other girls can come down tomorrow with a home cooked meal and lots of love. no word yet, but it is early.

Janis good luck with the job search, I'm so excited to start my new job. You will find one of that I'm sure.

Drank during chemo, also--mostly my dear friend, Miller Lite, but also an occasional glass of Merlot! Fatigue was the only side-effect that really kicked my butt!

NYE!!! We are heading to Grove, OK (only about an hour or so east of you!) for a marathon adult slumber party! We'll be there 3 days! Staying with friends that we worked with 30+ years who retired to Grand Lake (we retired to TableRock in Arkansas). Several couples, still working, will be coming down from Kansas City. Looks like it will be one hell of a reunion!!!! Praying to live through it, because they ALL drink more than I do!!!

    HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!!!

Good luck and please report back. I have found that pain meds can be as good as alcohol (even better?) - just make sure you get the 'good' stuff! I'll have a cocktail or two (or three) for you!

Aw, Randi, that was SO nice! I hope Roza gets better soon!

I don't make New Year's resolutions. I'm going to watch the Bear's game and resolve to stay sober enough to see the end.
    Good enough for me!

Well, I'm off to bed after a late work night. Only 3 more work days before my next day off! Woo-hoo! Go Bears!

Just a very quick, hi, I'm home from the hospital and effing sore as hell. They woke me up in OR, the buzz was so good I didn't want to waste it sleeping, wide awake in recovery room...those people in shock, they are use to a quiet group and I was in a joking mood. Starving to death and would they give me a sticking cracker? NOOOO. Nurse stood over there eating boiled peanuts right in from of me. Finally got dinner and ate that rotten stuff like it was a gourmet meal......Never realized how big my left breast was until the right one was gone..now it looks gigantic! LOL Who needs a drink....got the good stuff going! Marsha

    Deb,

It's nice of you to think of your guests, but I say drink the good stuff yourself and only serve your guests what they bring! (j/k) I ONLY drink the "good stuff" because you never know when your time will be up so why not enjoy it NOW?

And, if you weren't so darn far away (the plane ticket price alone would make me want to drink everything you had!) I'd be there imbibing with you - enjoy!!!

    Cheers!
