Happy New Year to you all! Survived another count-down and watchig the ball drop in Times Square (on TV!!).

Christine--we tried the winearita mix--used a decent Merlot. Half the people LOVED it and half the people (me, included!) HATED it. Ended up being like drinking a grape slushee drink. If you like really sweet drinks, you could get plastered on a few of those. But, I only drank part of my winearita then passed to on to someone who really liked it. I grabbed what was left of the regular Merlot!

    Cheers!!!

I have a funny story about drinking, at least it was funny when it happened. My dh made up a batch of Universes which I truly love but alcohol gives me such hot flashes. It consists of Midori melon liquor, vodka, pineapple juice, rose's lime juice and sprite. Add ice and enjoy. Well I did have a taste and then i poured myself a whole highball glass. When my mom called from her Assisted Living place, I put her on speakerphone so everyone could wish her happy new year. I yelled out happy birthday! I had no idea I did! I even tried to deny it but 8 people said I did so no go on that. No more alcohol for a while. Well, there is a little Sambuca hanging around though...........

    Happy New Year sistas!

Randi - congrats on the new job!! Did you start today?

Speaking of drinking - I got a Williams Sonoma martini mix sampler kit for Christmas. It was a Dirty Santa gift - best one there if you ask me.

Anywho - there is mix for Lemon Drops, Cosmopolitan, Appletini and Tangerini. Drank 3 Lemon Drops NYE...Yummy and wiped me out about 10:30...the wine with dinner probably didn't help. BF tried to wake me up for a midnight champagne toast, and apparently, I waved at him and yelled "Go Away! Leave me alone!"

However, I am proud that I kept last year's resolution to not stab anyone all year! I like to pick resolutions I think I can actually pull off so I don't disappoint myself.

Having a girls weekend with my MO friends on the 20th, so I'm sure we'll try the rest of the mix. If there's any left, that is. At least I know where to buy more.

Hope everyone had a safe NY! Mine didn't start off so great. My car was in the shop for some routine maintence & a couple of minor things. SO - yesterday afternoon, I'm driving BF's '86 Ford rattle trap pickup truck from his house about 50 miles away, and about halfway home I get pulled over and get a ticket for going 69 in a 55! The speed limit is 65 except for a mile area where it's a speed trap. Should've known better!

Here I've had a sports car for a year and a half, and never even got pulled over. I'm shocked that damn truck can even GO 69 mph. From what I can tell, it will probably cost me about $200! Yikes! Happy Freakin' New Year!

On a lighter note - I found a really cute coat at Macys (before the *bleep* speeding ticket)for 65% off!! I LOVES me a good bargain!! Hope everyone is staying warm. And if you're not warm - you probably just need a cocktail.

    Cheers,

When I was first diagnosed, my surgeon, OBGYN, and my oncologist all said my breast cancer was directly related to a long history of alcohol use. They said my smoking was less related than drinking (which shocked me). My mother has breast cancer and drinks a lot. I don't drink anymore.

The American Cancer Society has alcohol consumption listed as a cause of breast cancer by 50% and increases the risk of dying from it by 30%. It says it on this web site, as well. Quite frankly, I'm a super party pooper because I don't want to go through cancer treatment again, so that's a motivation for me. Here's the article:

I'm going to put the Alcohol Causes BC article, on the shelf with the Housework Prevents BC article. My mom, 2 aunts, and I have all kept very clean houses without help for decades and still got BC. None of them are drinkers and still got BC. I drank in my youth, stopped during my childbearing years, and picked it up again when they were teens. A glass of wine or beer with dinner, occasionally two. Yes, right after my dx I did drink a bit too much, too often for a few months, (I so get Betty Ford much better now. She must have been so lonely), but I'm back to normal amounts now. In fact maybe not drinking enough, only a drink 2 or 3 times a week. I believe that getting BC is a crapshoot. Every kind woman from every kind of lifestyle has an equal chance of getting BC. Clean house, dirty house; Fat, thin; drinker, non-drinker; vegetarian, meat eater; Breast-feeder, or not; even genetically you may or may not get it even if you have the genetic link. I actually think that it is 50-50. Either you're going to get it, or your not.

    rvgirl:
I read an article that said perservatives in food to help the shelf life causes BC. Here are some causes of BC according to the "studies": Margarine is one chemical away from being plastic, Also McDonald's and the like. Industry is being blamed for putting pollutants in the air. Toxic chemicals in drinking water, caffeine, radiation from x-rays, radon gas emmitted naturally from the soil, pestisides that have saturated our food chain, radiation from the sun, electromagnetic radiation from power lines, automobile exhaust, there's way more and I could go on and on and on but this is the HUMOR thread which most of us need right now.....rvgirl: Now which of those do you suggest we cut out of our lives also???? Marsha (Sorry drinking buds but I just got my button pushed)

Yes, I agree...life is too short, you don't know what caused your cancer, and, if you enjoy a glass of wine, don't let anyone make you feel guilty... People at my office were amazed when I got cancer, because I led such a healthy lifestyle. I don't worry about the lifestyle so much anymore - I do what I think is best. I think everyone's bodies are different, and you can't tell someone what works for them.

oh boy,,I hate it when somebody brings up the drinking thing and breast cancer. I mean, for real, if thats what caused it,,,grrrrrrrrrrrrr. I personally know people that have never had alcohol yet they had/have BC. On the other hand, I know some that drink like a fish and not one sign of BC so far. I mean for real, I thought I got breast cancer for standing too close to the microwave and now I find out it is because I poured myself a guinness. go figure!

Well, Happy New Year to you all!! I'm not faling for that drinking-causes-so-and-so either.. I am, however, allergic to red wine. So I drink "girly" hard stuff. My latest addiction is Lichido Liquer - it's got Lychees, Peaches and Guavas in it. And the taste is pure heaven.

Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing....

I used to eat lots of natural foods till I found out most people die of natural causes...

    Just couldn't help myself

No argument here on what causes BC, I am blaming mine on the numerous high risks factors I had, including drinking. Bu what if it was the french fries while I was growing up and quit drinking for nothing, I guess we "pick our poisons"
or "whatever gets you thru the night, it's alright, it's alright" (singing)

    Casa,

I have to say my wine-fogged brain saw your avatar as penises! Guess I need to get some soon!

Well, perhaps I'm one of the 'lucky' ones as I know I have the BRCA2 gene mutation so I 'know' (???) that that's why I got BC. Supposedly. And what about everyone else? My sister (who has NOT been tested) who does NOT drink, gave birth to three children and she got it, too. So, I drink. I think BC is ALL genetic to a degree (it's been around forever, hasn't it?) and the other factors are our environment, and additives in our food. Well, not to go on about downer stuff since this IS the Drinking Thread so I say "Cheers" to all of us no matter if we drink or not smoke or not have sex or not. We're all now members of this BC club so let's us all just get along, have a good time and enjoy whatever time we do have left here on Earth!

    JMO (as always)

Cheryl.....too funny, I'll do the same on Friday. Now about last night. WAY too much beer, a friend brought baby back ribs to the party and I must have had 2 lbs by myself...thought maybe I better soak up some of that beer! Some really funny boob jokes OH, Oh that reminds me: Tuesday my phone rings, caller ID shows it's the hosp. I pick up and this guy (he sounded about 12) said he was calling from the ACS and wanted to know if anyone signed me up. I said no so he had a few questions on his form and then said "Now this one is embarressing so I'm gonna whisper it. Murmer, murmer? I said "What?' Murmer Murmer? I said you are going to have to whisper louder. In a loud whisper he said "What size bra do you wear?" OK...I've shown these puppies all over town, so I just howled with laughter and said "Well, my left breast is 34C and my right is 34 double negative." At this point I am practically on the floor kicking my feet with laughter and that poor kid said he didn't get it. Tee hee, gotta find that laugh anywhere you can...Marsha

Jaybird, you know, come to think of it, my avatar really is kinda phallic. It's actually just a picture of the strange rooftop statues at gaudi's Casa Milo in Barcelona (one of my favorite places in the world)...

Casa - They are definately penises. I love it!!!

Guess what??? If drinking causes BC , I don't care!! I am sitting here with my red wine and I am enjoying every sip. I will enjoy every sip until the day I die. CHEERS!!
Nobody can convince me that any one thing causes BC. I think it is a combination of things and we just got the shitty end of the stick .

My surgeon told me we get bc because we are unlucky.I tend to agree...there doesn't seem to be any pattern. I enjoyed drinking before dx and for the many years since dx.

Chatting to my hubby and family over dinner and a nice bottle of wine are my favourite part of the day.

    Hey Drinkin' Buds~

I was recently dx w/ toenail fungus! Good God! Now my already ugly feet will be even uglier? My rad onc asked me if I was English, because she's English, and her second toe is longer than her other toes too, and that's a common English "toe thing", but she hates it. Well, so do I, and now I'm on Lamisil, which I just started today but I think it's kind of hard on the old liver, and you're not supposed to drink while on it.

SO, I SAY that I'm am not going to drink today, but I'm 3/4 of the way through a bottle of Dancing Bull cab, which by the way, for the money is a damn good wine, IMO.

Anywho - I need to back off, but for some reason, I'm acting like I'm still on vaca in Jamaica. WTF? Need to get my shit together.

    Cheers sistas,

Donna - my kindered spirit! My second toe is definitely longer than my big toe. I figured this was normal since I've seen many statues (most notably in Le Louvre) with this particular 'affliction'. I used to like my toes but since chemo and all of my toenails falling off three haven't really grown back so now I truly hate them.

Also, my fave Zin (currently anyway) is Dancing Bull! It's cheap and very drinkable. Tonight, however, it's Red Rock Merlot which is actually not too bad for a Merlot (I'm such a Cab and Zin snob!) Cheers!
