ARGH!!! I've tried to post words along with my pics but they got cut off! So, I was in Guatemala visiting the baby girl I'm in the process of adopting. The second pic is with her foster mother and it was taken just before I handed her back over to her and just before I started crying. This was the best 'vacation' ever!0
-
OOPS! Sorry - the pics I saw didn't show the words. Again, I apologize for being SO computer challenged! And since it's 10 a.m. I can't blame it on being drunk.

Um Hello Janis, what is this, your adopting a baby girl. YOU ARE AMAZING. I'm so happy you must be thrilled. So when do you think you will be bringing her home?
Yeah for you what an absolute joy that is going to be.
Randi0 -
Janis - that is so awesome! Same questions as everyone else...name, when do you bring her home, etc?
I sure hope this doesn't interfere with your drinking LOL!
Congratulations!

Janis
Where are you?
You spring this wonderful news and disappear.
Silly girl
We are going crazy with questions!
I vote for a baby shower!

OH Janis Congrats! Yes please do tell when is she coming home? What's her name?? come on you've shown us the pics now we want the particulars!
I'm really sad about not being able to drink and my hubby would do the doobie in an instant but I don't partake. Never like the smell of it and I don't smoke either, allergic! So I have to do all the above via you gals!
Well I'm off to bed but how can I sleep with the exciting news! Janis you never cease to amaze us!0 -

Cheryl,
In the past I've enjoyed Vicodin..... There MUST be SOMETHING you can enjoy if you can't drink alcohol!0 -
Buenos Noches!
Sorry, Ladies, but I was at work all day! Some here 'knew' about Avery (that's her name) but for most of you it is a surprise. Sorry to spring it on you but with adoption it's never final until it's final and I've just been waiting and waiting to talk about it but have held off for fear of it falling through (and it still could) but after my visit trip I just HAD to share!
I actually started the process last fall when I got done with rads. In chemo-pause (at the time) I was devastated to never, ever be able to 'have' children when something in my brain finally 'clicked' and I decided it wasn't so much the giving birth part that I needed but the mothering part that I so wanted and thus my journey to Avery began!
She's 3 1/2 months old now and hopefully (crossed fingers and prayers are definitely appreciated!) she will be home with me forever withing the next three months. The court process in Guatemala takes, on average, 6 months so right now I'm on track! I'll go back down there and get her as soon as they say I can! She is adorable, even tempered and just a pleasure to hold and I cannot wait until I see her again! Hopefully she'll remember this crazy person!!!
That's all. Yes, my drinking will definitely be curbed (I barely drank at all while visiting her - one beer every other night!) but so what? It's all about her right now. It's hard to discribe in words but my entire life (46 years!) I've always wanted to be a "mom" and in a few month's time I can finally say "I'm a mommy!"
Cheers!
And here's to Donna's new (old?) home!
Janis0 -
Janis - She's Perfect!! You look amazing and peaceful. I thought you were adopting an older child. Oh, I am so happy for both of you.
Forget the drinking, where are you going to put all those younger men?? Ah, forget it, you'll be too tired for that.
LOL!!

Good Morning all: It sorta feels funny posting on the how about drinking thread at 6:30 in the morning! But here we go.
Janis: Im just so happy for you. What a wonderful Christmas gift. The gift of love and life! So ya see, there is a Santa. I do believe, I do believe, its silly but I believe.
CherylCy: Ok I must be nuts. Im on Coumadin, plus a variety of other medications. Actually have my own pharmacy here lol. Anyways, no drinking? I have my usual glass of wine every evening. No drinking for the rest of your life? Life without my wine - sounds so boring.
Have a great day ladies. Gotta run and get ready for work. Have to work on a new hair style this morning as my husband told me last night I style it like a boy! So I handed him the brush and said, here - see what you can do. Well when he was done he said I looked so cute. I looked in the mirror and I had a flat head!! Grrrrrr! Men. But at least I have hair to complain about. Last year at this time I had none.
Have a great day.

OMG- I have been away too long.
JANIS! The tears of happiness are in my
eyes for you and Avery. I am so happy for
you.
I have a friend waiting for a baby girl, from China.
My bro and SIL went thru a domestic adoption
of a lil girl, 5yrs ago and mt SIL ended up
pregnant and delivered a lil boy 7 mos after the
adoption.
I've been thinking about and wanting to look
into foreign adoption, even before bc. Was your bc
an issue at all? You can pm, if you don't mind
talking about it.
I am just thrilled for your new life and the life you
will share with her. Remember, I asked awhile ago, why Guatamala, and you did't reply, but I kept wondering... Why vaca there?
WOOOO HOOOO!!!0 -
JUST A MOM?
A woman, renewing her driver's license at the County Clerk's office
was asked by the woman recorder to state her occupation.
She hesitated, uncertain how to classify herself.
"What I mean is," explained the recorder,
"do you have a job or are you just a......?"
"Of course I have a job," snapped the woman.
"I'm a Mom."
"We don't list 'Mom' as an occupation, 'housewife' covers it," < BR>said the recorder emphatically.
I forgot all about her story until one day I found myself in the
same situation, this time at our own Town Hall.
The Clerk was obviously a career woman, poised,
efficient and possessed of a high sounding title like,
"Official Interrogator" or "Town Registrar."
"What is your occupation?" she probed.
What made me say it?
I do not know.
The words simply popped out.
"I'm a Research Associate in the field of
Child Development and Human Relations."
The clerk paused, ball-point pen frozen in midair and
looked up as though she had not heard right.
I repeated the title slowly emphasizing the most significant words.
Then I stared with wonder as my pronouncement was written,
in bold, black ink on the official questionnaire.
"Might I ask," said the clerk with new interest,
"just what you do in your field?"
Coolly, without any tra ce of fluster in my voice,
I heard myself reply,
"I have a continuing program of research,
[what mother doesn't)
in the laboratory and in the field,
(normally I would have said indoors and out).
I'm working for my Masters, (first the Lord and then the whole family)
and already have four credits (all daughters).
Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in the humanities,
(any mother care to disagree?)
and I often work 14 hours a day, (24 is more like it).
But the job is more challenging than most run-of-the-mill careers and the rewards are
more of a satisfaction rather than just money."
There was an increasing note of respect in the clerk's voice as she
completed the form, stood up and personally ushered me to the door.
As I drove into our driveway, buoyed up by my glamorous new career,
I was greeted by my lab assistants -- ages 13, 7, and 3.
Upstairs I could hear our new experimental model,
(a 6 month old baby) in the child development program,
testing out a new vocal pattern.
I felt I had scored a beat on bureaucracy!
And I had gone on the official records as someone more distinguished and indispensable to mankind than
"just an other Mom." Motherhood!
What a glorious career!
Especially when there's a title on the door.
Does this make grandmothers
"Senior Research associates in the field of
Child Development and Human Relations"
and great grandmothers
"Executive Senior Research Associates"?
I think so!!!
I also think it makes Aunts
"Associate Research Assistants".
I just had to post this! My Father sent it to me.0 -
Janis, 46 who are you trying to kid you don't look 46! You look a whole lot younger than me!
0 -
Christine,
Contact me at my e-mail ladyjay627@aol.com and we can 'discuss' what I went through and what is required. I couldn't reply aboit Guatemal without spilling the beans! I wanted to tell everyone but didn't know how and while I hope it doesn't happen the birth mother can still change her mind!
Thanks, everyone, for the well-wishes! I cannot describe to you how cute and wonderful Avery is! I SO wish I were back in Guatemala just 'being' with her! We did nothing but hang out (I had American tv on so she could hear our English) and I took walks with her in the snugli (and she promptly fell asleep!) and that was about it. Boring by most standards but not to me!
It will be about another 3 months ( hpefully not more than that but it could be) before she comes home for good. I'll keep you posted as to when I get to go back down there to pick her up!
Janis L0 -
Too cute (and true!) Cheryl! I SO hope to experience all the joys of motherhood!0
-
Janis, I am busy working for the next few days, I will emal ASAP. I have a friend who does consulting for foreign adoption. I am just concerned about the importance of health issues.
Way past time for bed, g'nite sisters!0 -
Hi Laides,
Janis "Mom" how are you. I agree you do not look 46. Your daughter is beautiful.
So how are you laides doing? I'm good sending out resumes, i hate it. but I'm sure I will be employed soon.
Keep up the drinking and see you soon.
Randi0 -
(((Randi)))
Oh, it's SO hard to look for another job! But, many companies DO hire around the holidays so hopefully you'll find something soon! Been there, done that!
Tonight it's my fave Zin from CA. It was another busy and hectic day at work (so what else is new?) so I'm chilling and am about to watch a show I taped and relax some more.
So, another 'new' man is in my life. This one I met not through the 'sex' web site but through eHarmony. He lives in another state and is stopping by to see me on his way to his parent's home in another state. The fact that I'm adopting doesn't scare him so keep your collective fingers crossed for him and I to get along! No, no naked hot tubs planned but if we like each other I won't hesitate to go for it!
Other than work and cleaning my house I'm just hanging out. Oh, and a little drinking, too! I have to get all my 'fun' in now before Avery gets here because when she does I'll have to behave! Which I'm more that happy to do as while in Guatemala I only had an occasional beer, nursed over an hour or two. Who can drink when a baby needs to be held and fed and burped and played with???
Later Chicas!
Janis L0 -
Wow, how in the world have I missed this thread? Thanks Circle girls for bringing it up. If there is anywhere I need to be its here.
Nice to see you all and I will be back later and I am sure I will have a drink in hand. Just gotta get off from work ya know.
Amy0 -
Hey Amy- welcome here. There may be alot of love over in the Circle Thread, but we call this the "funnest" thread on this board. There is alot of love and understanding here too. Glad to see you, cheers!

Welcome Amy...glad you found us.
This is really the funniest thread here and we have
lots of fun.
Janis...I too am wondering about bc and adoption. I
adopted Nathaniel when he was 15 months old and he's
8 today and would really like to do it again but adopt
a child around the ages of 4 to 6 years old. I don't know
if I could as I had to have a complete physical before
Nates adoption and maybe I wouldn't be "eligible" now.
Good luck Randi with the resumes...something will come along.
To tired to drink tonight so off to bed with me...going to
Chucky Cheese tomorrow...wish they served alcohol as I'm
afraid I may need it...I can just imagine the noise of all
the kids now!!!
Hugs girls
Vickie
OH...got hit on by a great guy that came into work today...
wooohooo...it's a maybe!!! He told me that he couldn't
believe that no one had snatched me up yet...0 -
Janis...I sent you an email...let me know what you think.

Good luck Vickie! I hope he offers you a nice dinner out with some nice wine, too!
I'm doing some last minute cleaning for my guest tomorrow night. If I could only figure out to keep all the dog hair on my dogs and off the floor and furniture! So no drinking for me, either. Well, maybe just one glass of wine.....
