    Warty McFeverish says -

St Patrick is known as the patron saint of Ireland. True, he was not a born Irish. But he has become an integral part of the Irish heritage, mostly through his service across Ireland of the 5th century.

Patrick was born in the later half of the 4th century AD. There are differing views about the exact year and place of his birth. According to one school of opinion, he was born about 390 A.D., while the other school says it is about 373 AD. Again, his birth place is said to be in either Scotland or Roman England. His real name was probably Maewyn Succat. Though Patricius was his Romanicized name, he was later came to be familiar as Patrick.

Patrick was the son of Calpurnius, a Roman-British army officer. He was growing up as naturally as other kids in Britain. However, one day a band of pirates landed in south Wales and kidnapped this boy along with many others. Then they sold him into slavery in Ireland. The was there for 6 years, mostly imprisoned. This was when changes came to him. He dreamed of having seen God. Legend says, he was then dictated by God to escape with a getaway ship.

Finally, he did escape and went to Britain and then to France. There he joined a monastery and studied under St. Germain, the bishop of Auxerre. He spent around 12 years in training. And when he became a bishop he dreamed that the Irish were calling him back to Ireland to tell them about God. The Confessio, Patrick's spiritual autobiography, is the most important document regarding this. It tells of a dream after his return to Britain, in which one Victoricus delivered him a letter headed "The Voice of the Irish."

So he set out for Ireland with the Pope's blessings. There he converted the Gaelic Irish, who were then mostly Pagans, to Christianity. He was confident in the Lord, he journeyed far and wide, baptizing and confirming with untiring zeal. And, in a diplomatic fashion he brought gifts to a kinglet here and a lawgiver there but accepted none from any.

Indeed, Patrick was quite successful at winning converts. Through active preaching, he made important converts even among the royal families. And this fact upset the Celtic Druids. Patrick was arrested several times but escaped each time. For 20 years he had traveled throughout Ireland, establishing monasteries across the country. He also set up schools and churches which would aid him in his conversion. He developed a native clergy, fostered the growth of monasticism, established dioceses, and held church councils.

Patrick's doctrine is considered orthodox and has been interpreted as anti-Pelagian. Although he is not particularly noted as a man of learning, a few of his writings remain extant: his Confession, a reply to his detractors, and several letters. The Lorica ("Breastplate"), a famous hymn attributed to Patrick, may date to a later period. By the end of the 7th century Patrick had become a legendary figure, and the legends have continued to grow since then. There are many legends associated with St Patrick. It is said that he used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the concept of the Trinity; which refers to the combination of Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Hence its strong association with his day and name.  Legend also has that Saint Patrick had put the curse of God on venomous snakes in Ireland. And he drove all the snakes into the sea where they drowned.

An Irish Mother's Letter To Her Son !

    Dear Son,

Just a few lines to let you know that I am still alive. I am writing this letter slowly because I know that you cannot read very fast.

You won't recognise the house anymore when you come home; we moved because your Dad read in the paper that most accidents happen within 20 miles of home. I won't be able to send you the address as the last family here took the numbers with them for their next house, so they wouldn't have to change their address.

There was a new style of washing machine in the house when we moved in, but it wasn't working too good. I put 14 shirts into it last week, pulled the chain and I haven't seen them since!

Your father has a new job. He now has 500 people under him. He is cutting the grass at the cemetery.

Auntie Maggy has sent you a pair of socks she knitted, she put a third one in because she heard you have grown another foot since she last saw you.

Your sister, Mary, had a baby this morning. I haven't found out yet whether it was a boy or a girl, so I don't know if you are an Uncle or an Aunt.

Jimmy locked his keys in the car yesterday. We were really worried because it took him two hours to get me and your father out.

Your Uncle d*ck drowned last week in a vat of whiskey in Dublin Brewery. Some of his co-workers dived in to save him, but he fought them off bravely. We cremated the body and it took three days to put out the fire.

Your father didn't have much to drink at Christmas. I put a bottle of castor oil in his pint of beer and it kept him going until New Year's day.

I went to the doctor on Thursday, and your father came with me. The doctor put a small tube in my mouth and told me not to open it for ten minutes - your father offered to buy it from him.

It only rained twice last week. First time was for three days and the second for four. On Monday the wind blew so hard that one of the chickens laid the same egg four times.

We received a letter yesterday from the undertaker. He said that if the last payment on your Grandmother's funeral wasn't made, up she comes.

    Your loving Mother,

PS I was going to send you 100 dollars, but I have already sealed the envelope.

Love the cartoon NM. 6-12 inches of snow…….OH NO! I like Greenie McSmelly and Goldie McWoozy is poyfec for Ms Sadie. The Morning After cocktail, interesting to say the least!

Sue, I sawry too that you couldn’t do the pub crawl, but I do want you well for your travels. Looking at the 10 day forcast, so far they are showing 69 on Tuesday and 71 for Wednesday, winds around 15 mph. If that holds true, that is perfect weather if you ask me!

    Call me Blarney McTurnips, Lara!

I like your Leprechaun name Becks. You need to put your stripper name in your signature.

Oh no Cami, I don’t like your name either. And I clean best with vodka too!

Of course the tat is awesome Cyn, and look at Sir Reese. He is just too coot. How is the potty training coming along? So glad for your time with D. I wish you could both be together all the time.

Ah, there’s Julie. Now I know where she’s been. Love the reasons to drink on the job. LMAO Sappy Shortlegs. Dat one funny. Of course we are drinking for you!

Funny letter B, and great history as well.

Yeah Chrissy, what’s with all the Warty’s?

Got a message from Katarinka de woyld traveler, and it does seem she is indeed traveling the world. Here are some of her messages:

Cant get out of huntsvilee. Got here 2 hrs ago and flts are messed up.n so pissed as we pd 4 1st and are getting jacked around. Wish us luck getting somewhere.

i finally got thru to united after 45 min onhold, and I think the flights are

going to be okay. Just that we are going around the world it seems to get to

Madeira. thank god we were able to be routed to germany since they couldn't get

us to dublin. We are in the business class lounge haveing a few

drinks......whew...thanks to whoever was praying for us!

Just got to Amsterdam, had to go thru passport control, security, and now in the KLM business lounge....very nice. We had those pod beds that lay down flat so actually was able to sleep some....real pillows, comforters, very nice. Drank too much, so have a headache, and its so hot in this airport and was hot in the plane. Love this Schiopol airport as its HUGE even has a casino...have spent many hrs at this airport in the past, but this time we just have an hr or so now till we need to get to the gate. THEN on to Frankfurt. THEN gotta get our boarding passes and check in AGAIN, and get our luggage and recheck it in, on Tap Portugal, to go to Lisbon and then to Madeira. SO will be over 30 hrs from our airport to the Madeira airport.....and I look the worse for wear.....lol.

ANyhow this battery is about dead and my converters are in checked bags, so can't plug in. HOPE to read all your posts once we get there. Hope everyone is fine. People liked our green stuff, and DH has a greeen leprechaun tie. LEt the girls in the HTL know that we are going around the world to get to Madeira...lol.

UH OH, funky page again! Beautiful photo Chrissy. Gorgeous daughter and handsome SIL. Thanks for sharing.

A Love Story. kinda Brings a Tear to your eye!

    --------------------------------------------------------

A couple was Christmas shopping at the mall on Christmas Eve and the

    mall was packed.

As the wife walked through the mall she was surprised to look up and see

her husband was nowhere around. She was quite upset because they had a lot to do.

Because she was so worried, she called him on her mobile phone to ask

    him where he was.

In a calm voice, the husband said, "Honey, you remember the jewelry

store we went into about 5 years ago where you fell in love with that

diamond necklace that we couldn't afford and I told you that I would

get it for you one day?"

The wife choked up and started to cry and said,

"Yes, I remember that jewelry store."

He said, "Well, I'm in the bar right next to it."

BREAKING NEWS: South Wales Police have asked for witness’s to come forward regarding a brutal crime against 15 English men on a recent visit to Cardiff who were robbed of a Grand Slam they had come to collect and also had their chariot badly vandalised during the visit to the Welsh capital?

... Apparently this heinous crime was carried out by a gang of 15 Welsh guys dressed in bright red shirts in broad daylight in front of 75,439 people who gathered around the gang attack and just stood there cheering, clapping and singing hymns and arias as if they were encouraging the gang.

A police spokesmen for the South Wales force said this “This sort of attack is just sickening……..One of the victims was a young lad called Owen Farrell who was on his first trip to Wales and has been traumatised by the whole shocking experience and to make matters even worse his father was forced to watch the entire crime from start to finish and could not lift a finger to protect his son from the sickening and relentless battering meted out by the conspicuously dressed red shirted gang”.

The police spokesman continued, “We are following a number of leads and believe this crimson shirted gang may be linked to a similar attack in Twickenham a year ago”.
