Lol, junie: when my husb and I got married -LONG ago, we were on a very limited budget, so we went to the justiice of the peace, rented a motel room, and filled the waste basket with ice, put our bottle of cheap champagne in it and .... the rest is history.

    Hi everyone!

I am finally off pain meds, and can have "happy hour" nightly now! Woo Hoo!!!! Right now it is Seagrams7 and diet pepsi....hope everyone is doing well! That humongous wine glass sounds neat! Long ago, I was going to buy my mom a really nice crystal wine glass, as she loved her wine every night (still does). Everytime the clerk brought out a wine glass, I had to tell her, no...my mom REALLY likes her wine...until she brought out a really large one! But it does not hold a whole bottles worth of wine! That would be a blast to get her one like that!

    Okole Hau,

Wow, has this thread been rather slow or what?

    Where the heck is Christine???

Tonight I'm sipping scotch, the last of my last bottle. I've lost the taste for it, or at least what I've been drinking. Maybe I need to try something else? Tongue out

The lime Bud light was okay. It really filled me up and I didn't finish the second one - WTF??? I guess I know what to drink if I don't want to get drunk!

    Well, cheers to all!

Yaayyyyy!   Wicked Wahine is off the wagon!   Congrats!  Since I can no longer justify drinking on your behalf because you couldn't, I'll drink in celebration!!!   Works for me!

Jaybird--scotch--I have tried for years to develop a taste.   I have just never grown to like it--although, when I traveled for work, I always had a flask of scotch in my suitcase, and it was always empty when I got back home!!!

Christine was having some 'puter problems.   We're gonna be in her neck of the woods next week, I'll see if i can round her up and let her know she's missed here!

    Everyone, have a great week-end!!!

Hi Ladies!  Tomorrow I will be having my needle-loc and lumpectomy (no SNB...I have DCIS). and he worst thing is that I cannot have a glass of wine tonight....We had a Father's Day dinner at the Outback, and I really missed not being able to have a drink....Oh well.... Tomorrow night will be a different story!

I am hoping to be celebrating wide, clean margins.....

    Sandy,

Hoping that you can post soon and let us know that you got nice, wide, clean margins!  Then we can drink to celebrate!

Can you tell I'm always looking for a reason to celebrate?

Hope you enjoyed your happy hour, Kathy!

    Jaybird,

I like Miller Chill!  Unfortunately, we are all out, so I either have to go and stock up again, or else...well, I guess the Coors Light will have to do, til then.  We are having pizza on the grill tonight, and I think I'll have a Coors Light to go with it.

    Cheers, ya'll!

Hi Ladies....Well....Even though final pat report isn't in, my surgeon declared me "cured"...her word, not mine...That's what she told my family.....She said that it was a real possibility that the cancer had been taken out at the sterertactic biopsy on May 19th.....So..They must have run a quick and dirty analysis right after the surgery...I'm assuming nice wide margins....no problems....no more cancer cells!

SO....Even though I was told not to drink any alcohol yesterday, that night...before bed...I mixed my favorite Taylor Port with some Sprite Zero....It was good, and nothing happened!  Not that I thought it would.....<g>...

Feel free to celebrate on my behalf!  Come to think of it, have a drink on behalf of ALL of us who share this horrid disease.....We deserve it!

    Hi Buds~

Where the hell did May go?

I am sipping (drinking - but doesn't sipping sound better?) a bottle of CA chard.

I've been laying off the booze ever since I got a call ON MY 46TH BIRTHDAY that my cholesterol and trigylercides were over the top and that my PCP had called in a rx for CRESTOR and I am to start taking it ASAP!  Just the week before I went to the Dr w/ BP of 160/90 WTF!!!!  I've always had LOW BP, so all of this is still a shock to me.  My Dr brought up the fact that my dad died of heart disease.  My mom died of colon cancer, so does that mean I'm just fucked?

Sorry to sound bitter.....I thought I was pretty healthy, only to find out NOT!  So NOW I'm on BP meds AND cholesterol meds, but I go back on the 26th for blood work, and am very sure I'll have better results.  So I'm hoping to ditch the meds soon.

So, enough about me....welcome to all the newbies.  Belly up to the bar, as it's always happy hour here.

Although I've been laying off adult beverages, tonight the chard is tasting extra good, so I'm a little buzzed..

HI to all my buds.  I love you all!!Cool

You guys are right up my alley.  (Although I notice no one has their actual picture as an avatar...hmmm....)  I am beginning my 3rd week out from my 1st tx of TC, and am mightily enjoying my bourbon & coke.  Aaaaaahhhhh....  It's awfully hard to sit by the pool without a cocktail in hand--just isn't right somehow.  Hopefully the chemo cocktail and my B&C cocktails won't clash.....anyone???

    Hi everyone,

Oh, it is so nice being off the pain meds and getting to drink again. For everyone who drank for me when I couldn't...now I'll return the favor...only if you twist my arm though! catlover44 you and I are on the same page...I always drink bourbon & coke (prefer Seagrams7 & diet, but if they're free at casinos I order Crown...only cause it is more $$$...go figure...I really like 7&diet better!). What is your bourbon of preference?

Such a nice group here...purplemb thanks for letting us all keep this group going....and hope the long lost friends come back here. Well, keep the drinks coming gals, we deserve it! After all,... it MUST be 5 pm somewhere...right?

    Hi Donna,

Just read your message. Boy, that really sucks! Hope the visit on the 26th will show big improvements, and you can get off those meds. Good thing though that the docs are on top of things, cause much better to find the problems and treat them, then to try to ignore it. So sorry to hear that you have lost both of your parents...that has to be rough. Knowing what they died from will keep you more vigilant and proactive, and should prevent you from having the same fate. Keep trying to be healthy so you can ditch those meds! Thought it was good you enjoyed your wine...got to have something to cheer you up, and you deserve every ounce of it!!! Hope to hear you report on good news soon....till then...okole hau (bottoms up!)...

    Donna,

Yes, it sucks that you will have to take meds for cholesterol & bp...

I'm hoping you can get your levels down so you won't have to be on the meds for very long!  I have heard that eating about 1/2 tsp. (I forget how much, really, so I'm just making up the amt!) of cinnamon every day can help to lower your cholesterol levels, naturally.  Also, eating more oatmeal is supposed to help lower cholesterol levels.

BTW, my dr. did a lipid profile, for cholesterol, almost TWO weeks ago, and I requested that they call me with my results NO MATTER what they are... but you know, they haven't called...

My dad was an alcoholic, and he died from a heart attack, but he also had cirrhosis of the liver.  My mom had a stroke, and she passed away, over 16 years ago...  So I know that we have to be careful, with the family hx.

It has to be FIVE O'CLOCK somewhere, girls!!

Hey Donna. My sister sent me an e-mail that put it in perspective:

Here's something to think about. I recently picked a new primary care doctor. After two visits and exhaustive lab tests, he said I was doing 'fairly well' for my age. A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, 'Do you think I'll live to be 80?'He asked, 'Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer or wine?' 'Oh no,' I replied. 'I'm not doing drugs, either!' Then he asked, 'Do you eat rib-eye steaks and barbecued ribs?I said, 'No, my former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!' Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?' 'No, I don't,' I said. He asked, 'Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?' 'No,' I saidHe looked at me and said,....'Then, why do you even give a s**t?  Hey Kathy,I had a couple of glasses of wine last night after having my drains out. They were lovely (the glasses of wine, not the drains). Happiest of hours to you all.Carol(AZ) Sorry about the font.

Catlover, I DID have an avatar of myself before someone here (who will remain nameless) started questioning my parenting skills (like, WTF?) so no pic of me, nor of my daughter. I'm kind of proud of my "HAZE" avatar.....

Oh, and I'll be sure to have a sip (or pint???) of beer for all my beer loving friends when I go to LONDON this Sunday!  LaughingLaughingLaughing

CAZ - LOL!  I like it!

J - LONDON!  WooHoo for you!  Have you been there before?  I haven't but would love to!  How exciting!

I haven't been on the boards much lately, since I'm a slave to my yard and house, and I play on weekends now!  I will say one thing about the BP med, it has DRAMATICALLY reduced my hotflashes. I can't believe the difference!  I still have them, but not nearly as frequently and not nearly as intense!

A GF is coming over this evening and we're going to drink a bit I am sure....I'm in a beer mood tonight.  Probably because it's HOT and a cold one tastes GOOD!

Where's  Junie & Sam?  Are they hiding out somewhere cool drinking ML?

    Cheers,

    Donna

Hey, CasinoGirl--good to see you!!   I go away for a week and look what I come home to--brand-new boards.   Have stocked refrig with ML and think I've figured out navigating the new site.  And, where's our ChristineK hiding out these days???   I was up in her neck of the woods, but didn't have a chance to try and find her!

Jaybird--London!  How great!  Hope you had enough of a layover and energy to do some sightseeing!   I think it is wonderful that you are back in a job that you so enjoy!

I've been reading back and catching up and having a toast for each post I've read.

    Hugggsssss to all!!!

For all of you that like a good red one, there is a Shiraz called Strong Arms from Australia. Wicked good. Great Label. Ok so sometimes I buy because of the label. Had a little wine tasting going on over the weekend. California provided a nice new one called PetitePetite (another great label, vineyard is own by 2 brothers depicted as Circus Elephants) and a lighter Syrah called Bitch. Yes pink label that says bitch, screw top for those of us who are having hard time with cork screws due to surgery or expanders. Cap is cute on that one shows a black heart with a pink dagger through it.

But the Strong Arms is by far the best and the pricest of the 3 bottles.

Before surgery I won an Oster electric cork puller at a party.  You set it over the cork, hold down one button and keep the bottle from spinning.  It has been a lifesaver.  I hope it has a long warranty.

It's been awhile since I've been on the boards, alot of reading to catch up on.  Welcome to all the newbies - this is the bestest thread on here!!!

Since I had an expander placed in March I haven't been doing my favorite activity - golf.  My ladies league held a tournament last week and a friend and I drove the beer cart.  Most of the ladies gave us tips which we used to buy our own beer - I know I had at least 6 and still had $9 left at the end of the day.  My dh and i spent the weekend in the pool and played alot of water volleyball.  It really helped the old arm so today I went to the course and hit a bucket of balls - wow was I impressed with myself.  Think I will be back on the course until my exchange surgery in August.  I have no idea why I have waited so long to get perky boobs and cleavage!!!  It's a miracle - went from an A to a C -hubby doesn't know what to do with it!!  My natural one will also get an implant - can't let her look like a whimp!

Sorry for writing about this when I should be talking about drinking.  Jaybird - I hope your trip to London has been good, what a perk.

Junie - thanks for the tip about the trash can for a cooler, what a great idea

Catlover - it does appear most of us do not have a picture of ourselves in our avatar, although Casino girls is her scubba diving - correct Donna?  I'm like jaybird I did at one time then thought better not to.  Cyberspace can be pretty scary sometimes.

    Cheers

My DH and I are off to my favorite brewpub.  It's a nice end to a scorching 111 degree day.

I've given up their heavenly french fries again since I found out I have a treatable condition.  I'll never give up their beautiful beer, though.

Sam.  I finally figured out my answer to the question of what I want to do when I grow up.  I want to drive the beer cart at the golf course.  Maybe I could write off my new foobs as a business expense for men's tournaments.

    Good night

That was funny Traci!!! Sue, your Mexican weekend sounds heavenly! I love Dos Equis, but a mean margarita would really get my atttention....have a blast! Carol...111 degrees...yikes! I love visiting Arizona, but only during the cooler months...even w/o humidity....that is HOT! Good excuse for another beer....

Sam, what fun on the golf course! Making money and drinking beer...good combination. Glad that you were able to get your swing back...and hopefully can get your golf game back. I still have trouble raising my arms up straight...can you do that? My PS does not give out exercises, so I have just been raising my arms and trying to stretch....anything better to do?

Well, I had happy hour sitting outside in the heat, w/ my 2 lovable doggies, and watching all the birds in the feeders and baths. The Blue Angels are performing here tomorrow, and all afternoon they were practicing overhead...sooooo loud thought they were going to come through the house! Will be neat to see them though.

Cheers everyone! Have a wonderful weekend!

    Okole Hau,
