Had a nice Bushmill's Irish Whiskey--neat-- just last night! And plan to have one last one late this afternoon. With surgery tomorrow morning, I think I just might need to feel a little bit relaxed, so I'm going to indulge.

Wish me luck, sisters!  Bottoms up!

Good luck tomorrow Marilyn! I will have a drink (or two) to toast your upcoming surgery--probably will be Seagrams/Diet Coke....had 2 (big) glasses of wine last night--white zinfandel. I have not had Bushmill's, but they always send me links to get free personalized Bushmill labels....have you ever gotten those? Crown Royal does that too....but have never gotten Seagrams. Would be neat to stick on a personalized label and surprize someone when you pull out the bottle that has the unique label!

Best of luck to you tomorrow!!! We'll have a cyber party when you get home!

    Cheers,

    Jeannine

Good Luck with starting your chemo on 8/11.  I started mine last year, on 8/7!  I ONLY had 4 tx of Taxotere & Cytoxan.  Are you getting Adriamycin?

Good Luck, Laura.  All these women starting chemo has me thinking back to last year...  It's hard to believe that it's been a year since I started chemo!

    Kathy,

I did get a call from the nurse, and later the dr. called me.  She called in the Rx for Xanax, so now I have that, but I haven't taken a pill yet.  I'm thinking I might need more, if I get bad news after my biopsy.  Can't these idiot drs. understand that after we have had a cancer dx, we may NEED some drugs, to help ease the anxiety?  I'm thinking that I did better with the bc dx, and tx, but now, every time I go to the drs., even for routine appts., they find more stuff, and need to do more tests...  I can't take it anymore.

When the dr. called, he said that the nurse said I had questions... not so.  I told the nurse that I 'didn't see the need, but if he wanted to call me, then ok.'  So, I told him that when someone has had a bc dx, the last thing they want is ANOTHER BIOPSY, because the only biopsy I have ever had was cancer, so now I am terrified that this will also be ca...  And, I said that since my pcp sat on this trans vaginal u/s result for TWO weeks, before I even got the results, and it SHOWED abnormal findings, I should be getting this biopsy SOONER, not LATER.  So he has scheduled me to come in and sign some consent forms on 8/11, the day he returns from his TWO WEEK vacation, and then the biopsy will be on 8/13.  So, I think that just as I suspected, he wasn't concerned about this but not because he believes that it isn't anything to worry about, but because he was going on vacation!!  That REALLY makes me MAD!!

Thanks for thinking of me.  I'll let you know when I find out something, only I am just so scared, I don't think I'll be able to deal with hearing those words again....

     cheers!

    Harley,

AAARRRGGG! (That is aimed towards your doctor!). Can't believe he just doesn't seem as concerned about what you are going through. But, good for you, for letting him know how scary this is, and how terrified you are feeling. You know Harley, they gave you the Xanax to help with this stress, and it would probably help to take it now, and be less upset while waiting for your biopsy. It will still work when you get your biopsy, but will take some of the edge off for now. I am sorry you are so worried, but understandably so. I know how you feel--- I was terrified until I got the results of my liver CT scan. Once we have cancer, then everything is so much more worrisome. Try to think positive thoughts, and take the xanax so you won't be too upset for the next couple of weeks. We have to think that you won't be hearing bad news!!! I will be anxious (oops...pass me the xanax too!) till I hear how your biopsy goes. Are you able to have a drink while taking it? Might want to make sure it is okay. I take wellbrutrin year round, and it does take the edge off some...but since my cancer dx...seems like I was so stressed that I don't know how bad I would have been if I hadn't already been on it! I have taken it since I got remarried (I had been widowed previously) about 11 yrs ago---cause my Dh is a dear, but is sooooo stressful to live with...lol. I still do drink anyway, but don't think I am really suppposed to! Got to have something to look forward to, right?

Hope more gals will come up to the bar....need to liven things up around here! Take care everyone, and chug 'em up!

okay, bellying up to the bar!  Gimme a cold Miller Lite, and keep them coming.  Don't worry about running out--have the ML truck parked out back!   Sounds like we have a pirate on board!  GOOD!   A feisty presence is needed to kick our butts out of the dark scary places we sometimes go.

My calming drug during tx was Paxil...am thinking to ask for it again, just to take the rough edges off everything!   Wellbutrin--my PCP had me on that a couple years ago to help me stop smoking.   I did not like that one--I didn't stop smoking but did cut way down.   I also became a real witch...there are lots of good drugs to help ease the anxieties, sometimes you have to try several to find one that works best for you.

I don't think we ever get over the worry and fear that more tests are needed once we've heard the cancer word.  I still get sick to my stomach before having a mammo.

So!  Lets all drink up!   Hope some of our missing drinking buds are out having a whale of a good time and will be checking in soon!    Missing check-ins from Jaybird, ChristineK, Casino Girl, and many others!!!

    Kathy,

I don't want to take the Xanax, because I am afraid I'll run out of pills, and if I get bad news after the biopsy, THAT is when I will need it even more.  So that is why I haven't taken any pills yet.

I am also ER+ so I have tried to cut back on my drinking.  SOME say we shouldn't drink AT ALL, if we are ER+.

    Thanks for all the support!!

Hi junie, Glad you still have that ML truck parked outside! As far as Wellbutrin goes, I was horribly mean when I started taking it too...then I read up on it and found out that for some people, the low dose actually reacts the opposite way it should, and you have bad reactions. So, I had my dr prescribe the higher dose, and it worked like a charm...so I take the XL, and I think it is about 300mg or so (the first dose was just 100--and really made me even hate myself!). Yeah, you might need some Paxil, as you have had a lot of stress lately too!

Harley, Oh, I would hope your dr would give you another refill if you ran out....the way he was acting though I am not sure of that! But really, you should be able to have it for when you need it, which is also now. My drs always give me refills of anything, so I haven't had that prob. But if you can't use it now, at least you know to take it b4 you find out your biopsy results. I wonder though if Xanax takes awhile to work? I think the Wellbutrin did, but I started it so long ago I am not sure.

I had cut back drinking a lot when I was worried about my liver, but now I'm back to 2 a night, most nights. They do say that women should only have 1 drink/day. Bummer, huh! And I didn't know about not drinking if you are ER+. Just isn't fair!!!

Thanks for trying to get the drinking buds back at the bar, junie! I miss hearing from them too. They really kept things going.....kept the bar jumping! Need to fill up these empty bar stools....

Yes, my Oncologist took my wine away Monday :(. I did my second Chemo. She said I could have a glass every other day if I had to but the alcohol is just to hard on the liver and I need the liver to process all the chemo.. uggggg... she said it was to risky... have you all been told this?

Oh well... I might just have one big party in Nov. when all this Chemo is over... :(

Pulling up a stool for a quick drink - Junie I'll send the ML truck your way.  I'm headed out of town tomorrow for a 3 day golf tournament.  I have only been golfing for the past 6-7 weeks since getting this rock of an expander put in.  I'm going to party hardy this weekend and play alot of golf cause I have my exchange surgery on Aug 18th and probably won't be able to play much the rest of the season.

For all of you that are unable to have a drink I will have a few for you.

Junie - hope the new a/c is in soon for you.  It's suppose to be around 100 here for the next several days.

    Cheers!!!

    Laura,

My onc told me that one drink a day was fine, during chemo.  BUT, I didn't drink EVERY DAY.  I did have a drink after my 1st tx, and after my last tx,  I had a glass of champagne to celebrate.  In between, my dh made me drinks on the days he was home, and I started getting nervous, because I was also afraid of interfering with my tx.

    Sam,

Oh, good luck with your exchange surgery on the 18th.  I'll be thinking about you, and I'll be having a drink for you, too!!  My endometrial biopsy is on Aug. 13th, and I just can't wait to have that over with.

    Hey Drinkin' Buds!!!

I've been laying low latey, no real reason, just being anti-social! Undecided

Tonight it's 1664 beer from France - YUM!!! The dollar sucks against the euro but I HAVE to buy and bring back some decent beer so 1664 it is. I also have some European Heineken chilling in the fridge.....

I have a leak in my roof so I'm kind upset about that and it should be a fairly simple fix but I'm really hoping the drywall isn't damaged too greatly. If it is I'll just have to drink more beer and drown out my sorrows!

    Cheers!  Tongue out

hugggssss, jaybird!  Love 1664!  One of my fav pics is on a train in France with MANY empty 1664s sitting on the pull-down trays!  Good stuff!   We can share leaky ceiling stories!  Our fam room ceiling is leaking again--we may have finally id'd the problem, but are going to pay dearly to fix it...

Sam--have fun golfing; don't get a heat stroke!  I haven't been out yet this summer--either raining or way too hot for me--but, think I'm getting a surprise new driver--big-headed Cobra--can't remember the loft degrees, but it will be sweet and I'll be anxious to hit it!!!!  sshhh--I'm not supposed to know about it!!!!

I've posted elsewhere about the bear problems we are having this summer.   I'll just say that I've moved the ML truck to the front of the house and hope the exhaust keeps those little boogers away!   (there are several bears roaming the neighborhood--most recent sighting was in neighbor's driveway across the street.  didn't see it but they have pics.....just about too much mother nature for this city gal!!!)

But, good excuse to drink!   hugggsssss to all!!!!

i love this thread. It makes me feel like life really can go on after diagnosis.  I am on my 4th chemo and althought today isn't a great day, I hope to be feeling better by the end of this week.  I haven't had a lot of terrible se's yet, and have managed to have a light beer a day when i feel good.  It seems to help, doc said one a day was fine. I look forward to my after work beer!   of course, my other vice is smoking, which I did quit for a week, then started again when my hair started to fall out, still i've cut back a lot, but am constantly worried about  it, did any of you smoke during chemo?  I know how bad that sounds, but I just can't get over  the hump to quit all together.  Is this terrible?  My doc didn't even say I had to quit, until I go for radiation, he said no one should smoke during radiation treatment.  But I feel so guilty and stressful at the same time.

    Hi everyone!

Jaybird, nice to hear from you again!!! I have not tried1664 beer--I do like Heineken--is it similar? I really like Smithwicks (sp?) from Guinness...very mild, whereas Guinness is a bit too strong for my taste. My DH loves Guinness--its his favorite. Well, having happy hour here, Seagrams/Diet Coke again!

Junie, is the ML truck empty by now? Hope the bears didn't figure out how to break into it! How did the a/c replacement go---hopefully smoothly. I know you have had a lot on your plate lately!

Vintageruff, I don't smoke, so can't comment about that. Luckily when I smoked many, many years ago it wasn't heavy, so was able to quit easily. I know...I was very LUCKY as far as that goes...it is very rough to try to quit smoking when dealing with all the bc crap---too much to deal with, without some form of escape. I hope you will be able to quit for radiation though. I am glad you get to have your beer at the end of the day!

Welcome to the bar, vintageruff!   I'll 'fess up to smoking during chemo AND during rads.  I did cut waaay back, but still smoked 2 - 5 cigs every day.   Unfortunately, I'm back to smoking like a chimney again.   Just don't have the willpower to quit totally.   And, during all the treatments I had a couple beers every night and an occasional glass of wine.   I am probably my own worst enemy!!

Wahine, A/C unit gets installed next week.   It's running ok now with a temp fix, so we aren't sweltering.   We plan to go visit friends while the new one is being installed.  Someone--maybe my cyber friends--are keeping the ML fully stocked--no danger of running out!!!

    hugggssss to all!!!

Hey, I've been reading some good news.....you all know how we try to ignore those reports that say alcohol increases our breast cancer risk?  Have any of you read the many studies that say if we get enough folic acid every day and continue to drink, our risk actually goes down?  Here's one link to get you started if you're interested in reading the good news for yourselves:

Drank too much last night. The storms in Chicago were horrible and the wind just went down so easily! I swear I though were going to have to all troop down to the basement. The thunder and lightening just wouldn't stop but surprisingly Avery slept through all of it!

Tonight I'm in NY drinking the Lime Miller Light (or is it Bud Light???) that I left here many weeks ago. It's alright. I much prefer my European beers but for a different taste it's drinkable. Too bad it fills me up so quickly. The 1664 doesn't do that!

WW, aka Kathy, no 1664 doesn't taste like Heineken, they're very different. Both are good in their own way. Had Stella Artois, too, and I like it the least of the three. I'm off to London again Thursday so I'll bringing back more 1664 - yum!

    Cheers!!!

    Hey all!

Well tonight's my last night before my world changes... my 1st TX tomorrow morning. Going out with a bang and downing some Bud Light Limes w/some tequila.  (Has anyone tried? I like them better than Coronas).

Question? Do I have to lay off the sauce the entire duration of chemo?

    Geez...

    Hi Jeannine,

Good for you....getting in the Bud Light Limes before your treatment! Do you mix it with tequila, or have the tequila as shots with it (I guess that sounds like the best choice!). I have not had chemo, so don't know about that, but I think some others were told they could have one drink a night during chemo(?). Might be wrong about that, but if you read back a few posts, I "think" someone mentioned that. How long will your chemo be? Have fun tonight though! I just finished "happy hour" myself....now to think about dinner...

Carol, never heard of Bevmo....but if its a candy store it must be good! Good hearing from you again!

junie....hello...where are you??? Did the ML truck leave? I hope not! Hope you got the new a/c and it works well! Just had the insurance adjustor out, and we will get a new roof, cause there was a little hail damage! Yay! Its over $8000, so glad they found that the hail did some damage (they will pay for all but $500). How come 30 yr roofs just last 10-15 yrs anyway??? Never figured that one out. But hope you're doing well!

    Drink up everyone!

I was just told no more alcohol. My liver is having a hard time processing it with the chemo. Also no more Tylenol for me. I get bad headaches and been relying Tylenol. Well apparently Tylenol is horrible for your liver as well. So basically no more alcohol and no more Tylenol. Just had round 2 of treatment on Wednesday. I have to go get some blood work done before round three to see if the liver enzymes are down.

I admit I like my beer. I dont drink every day. I am a social drinker I would say every other weekend(I am 34 so I still periodically like to hang out with friends in bars). So this is tough on me. Its a lifestyle change I have to deal with for 4 months but its something I have to do for my health.

Hello!  Finally back home to my computer.   A/C and heat pump installed and working just fine.  Now, how to figure out how to pay for it!   Wahine--great news on the hail damage--LOL!   We had to replace our roof two years ago ($7,000) but couldn't get an ins adjuster to say there was any hail damage!   sigh!

Barra--I consider myself a social drinker, too.   I am a verrrrrrrry social person!  I did drink throughout chemo and radiation--couple beers a night, an occasional glass of wine.   I was fortunate to not have nausea as a side effect of tx.

...pulling my stool up to the bar and having a few tonight with my cyber drinking buds...

    Hey all,

1st TX went really well. Had a funny, vivacious lady who began her 1st TX today too. Think we drove the nurse nuts w/our questions. So far, no SE's! Yea.

Well unfortunately I didn't get to down the tequila last night. Only had 1 Bud Light Lime. I was so busy and had a big dinner. & You're on the money Kathy & Barra.. "No alcohol during chemo!" That is going to be rough for me too. I saw the Bud Light and was ready to pop open a bottle.

I was hooked on Tylenol too Barra but I've leveled off and started to switch to Advil. However, now that I'm on A/C the painkiller of choice is Tylenol.  I will only take if truly needed. You're a youngin Barra. I thought I was (41) but I'm seeing so many young ladies pop up here.  What's going on?

It truly is a total lifestyle change but like my onc. nurse said "This is priority and you need to be first"!

    ((((((((Hugs)))))) & Prayers to all.

Next round is on me ladies!

Hi Barra, That is going to be hard giving up alcohol and tylenol. Is there another painkiller you could take? Maybe advil or something? Sorry about the awful headaches. When will your blood work be? My liver enzymes were really elevated too, but the CT scan showed it looked normal, so I have to have blood work done again next month to see if it shows up ok. In my case, it might have been from all the meds after surgery (at least I hope that is what caused it!). I had to quit my mobic today for my back pain, as I will have a caudal epidural in 10 days and can't have aspirin type meds. If it isn't one thing its another...right? But since you can't drink.....well, we will just have to drink for you! Could you hang out w/ your friends and have sparkling water with lime or something where you won't feel totally left out till you can drink again? Sucks, doesn't it.

Traci and junie, can I join you two? Glad the a/c works well, junie!!! Well, we found out what seems to work re the hail/roof damage. We had the roofer come out right after we had hail (albeit just small hail), and of course they can find things that "might" be hail damage. Then, when the adjustor comes out, they admit there could be some hail damage. Thank god we have had some hail this year and last year (got my parents roof replaced last year because of it too). My DD had golf-ball size hail where she lives, so there was no question there, but I was glad our small hail qualified also! 'Nuff about that...how is everyone doing? Glad the beer is cold in this cyber bar...good music too! Keep 'em coming....
