Great one. Traci!!  ...and... I think YOU ALL NEED TO HAVE A DRINK FOR ME, or at least send a ML truck to my house!   DS/wife and 4 grandkids here for the weekend to boat and swim and wear kids out swimming in the lake--and, it has rained non-stop since they arrived!  It's no fun being cooped up in the house with four rambunctious (sometimes, obnoxious little ones!!)   I can handle one at a time, but with four pulling at my attention, I get a little fractious!!!   Pray for sunshine tomorrow!!!  The baby is just 6 months and is so sweet--so good-natured--has only cried when I've been holding her!!!  Gotta go--buzzer on oven just sounded!  I made up individual bags of baker's dough for the older kids earlier.   Luckily, I had food coloring so each got their own color.   I need to go see how all the butterflies, dinosaurs, helicopter, etc turned out.   I made an "OOHHH, NOOO, Mister Bill"!!   They didn't have a clue what he is!!!   Hope everyone is having a better weekend.    I love them all to death, but I sure wish it wasn't raining!!!

Oh Junie, I think we need to each have a KEG for you! I had 3 grandkids and DD last weekend, and the weather was perfect, but boy did they wear us out! And having everyone cooped up with the rain--yikes!!! THe idea of them making stuff with dough is a good one--I'll have to remember that. Well, its almost happy hour here....yay! We just got back from the Blue Angels air show--wow was that ever fantastic. Should have taken our other grandkids, but took our (adult) neighbors instead! We were just on the outskirts (not in the airport) and they were so loud flying overhead, and we were all looking straight up, that didn't even notice a car wreck right in front of us! Didn't realize it till the fire trucks, ambulance, and police cars showed up! But the airshow was awesome.

Jaybird, have a great time on your date!!! How was London?

    Okole Hau everyone,

The date was good, the London trip was good!

We stay near the airport (Gatwick) so not a lot happening unless you go into the city. I didn't, I just walked around the hotel area (since it was my first time there) and bought gifts to bring back.

At dinner I had some Red Rock merlot which isn't very merlot-y but more like a cabernet and that's why I chose it. Dinner was a combo of tilapia, sea scallops and shrimp -yum!

Can't wait to get to Milan next week but since I'm not keene on Italian wine I think I'll just drink some European beer! I brought back some Kronenbourg 1664 from London. I like that and Stella Artois. Oh, and Heineken, the European version not the American stuff.

    Cheers!

Ahhhhhh--peace and quiet!  Everyone's gone home and I already miss them like crazy!   Thanks for the wishes for sunshine--today was perfect!   And, thanks to whoever got the ML truck to stop by!!!

Jaybird--yum--I like that 1664 beer!  And Milan--have been there several times, but only in the train station, changing trains!   If you have any kind of a layover there, I highly recommend trying to get north a bit to Como--one of the loveliest places I've ever seen!   All I know to ask for in Europe is, "biere"--I always like whatever I get!   And, always glad to get home to my ML!!!

     Happy new week to everyone!!!!

    Hi Laura,

Welcome...this is a fun place to be! I'm sorry but I don't know about chemo, but I am sure someone here will know about that, and chime in.  Right now I am enjoying a glass of wine for you--actually two glasses--hope you like white zin! I do hope someone will reply that it is ok for you to have wine--hard enough to go through chemo, and that would be nice to look forward to. I wasn't able to have a drink for a few weeks, cause of pain meds, so I am making up for it now! Nice to have you join our bar here. Best of luck to you!

Laura ~ go on and have your wine my friend - just wait until after any se's have settled down or it will leave a bad psychological impression and you may not want a taste for it for a while. I made the mistake of celebrating my first chemo with my favorite beer - first chemo was loaded with side effects for 6 days. No eating, no sleeping, and very nauseas. I now can't even look at my favorite beer. So, I have wine instead...or wine coolers if it's too hot...you only have to be clean on chemo day...every other day is up for grabs!

Love the pic!!  That is too funny!!!

Went over to the neighbors house last night, and sat on their patio, drinking Capt. Morgan and Diet Coke...  It was nice!  I just LOVE the Summer!!

I had to reward myself for getting through my dentist ordeal yesterday...

Hope everyone has a great 4th of July!!

    Hi Laura - and welcome!

I didn't want to give up my wine while on chemo and my chemo nurse said one glass per day would be okay but not to over-do it as the body is already trying to detoxify from the chemo and adding too much alcohol wouldn't be good. Well, I lost my taste for most alcohol and just didn't drink during that time - but I made sure to make-up for it when I was done! Tongue out

Hi Laura - I agree with flyerzfan - the week of chemo, I sure haven't felt like any alcohol, but last weekend in Mexico was the third week of the cycle, and the margaritas and Dos XX sure tasted good. It was a great weekend - only problem was that DD (she just turned 21) got stung by a jellyfish. DH and other daughter (she's an RN but apparently jellyfish aren't a big problem at Scottsdale Mayo) took her to the Cruz Roja where they sprayed her with Windex (apparently better than pee which I've also heard is a remedy.)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a drink for me since I just had chemo Tuesday - only one more!

    Hi Sue,

OK...it was really hard to do, but since you wanted us to....I reluctantly had a drink for you! Just kidding, but I know you are missing it right now. What a weekend---nice to know about the windex for jellyfish bites. We go to Hawaii a lot, since I am from there, and I wonder if this would work on the "portuguese man 'o war" also? Similar looking to a jellyfish, but more potent sting. Glad you enjoyed the margaritas and Dos Equis (sp?)...had some of the Dos XX on draft the other night. YAY for only having one more round of chemo!!!!

    Okole Hao Everyone!

    Sue,

Sorry your dd got stung by a jellyfish!!  OUCH!  That hurts!  Hope she is feeling ok.  Good to hear about the Windex.  I am sure it is much preferable to spraying urine all over yourself!!   EEW!

I must be weird, because I had a drink after my FIRST chemo!  I had to celebrate... one down, and three to go!  Throughout my tx, I only had an occasional drink.  The onc nurse told me that ONE drink a day was ok.  Then, on the day of my LAST tx, #4, we went out to dinner with some friends, and I had a glass of champagne, to celebrate being FINISHED chemo!

Hope everyone had a wonderful July 4th holiday and weekend!!

hugggsss to Laura!  I asked my onc about wine/beer during chemo.   He said a glass of wine a night shouldn't have any effect on my tx--as long as I wasn't experiencing horrid side effects from the chemo.  I was fortunate!   But mostly drank a couple beers during chemo and rads.

...speaking of beer--whoever sent that ML truck to my house--pls send it back!!!   Too many kid/grandkid visits last few weeks; more on the way!  And, waaaayyyyy too many storms--no power for most all of last night.   Luckily, we had a cooler of beer on ice, so that wasn't a problem!!!

I'd be hoping for summer to get over with the weather we've had, but can only imagine what is waiting for us with winter!   Get chains for that ML truck!!!

big hugggssss and all the drinking salutations to you buds!!!

DAMMIT!!  Lost my post!!  Am companied out and more coming this week!   And, it is RAINING again--2-3 inches expected tonight.   Lots of lightening and thunder...but,

cyber bar is restocked and lots of bar stools brought in to sit and hang out!!

Had a question for white wine drinkers--have fond memories of a fine white wine--think it was called ice wine because of the grapes used to produce it.   It was yummy but way pricey for me--someone's earlier post triggered a memory of it.   But, I remembered something similar that we purchased from a winery several years ago.   I meant to save a bottle but of course if I did I can't find it.   But, the term, Vignoles, is coming to mind.   If anyone has a clue what I'm trying to say, please tell me what to look/ask for next time I'm wine shopping!!

hugggsssss to all--it's late but gotta go flag down the ML truck!!!!!

    Hi junie,

Pulled up a bar stool, and joining the crowd...getting too quiet in here though! Where is everyone?

We used to get ice wine when we were traveling between the Toronto and Buffalo area....boy was that good, but yeah, pricey sometimes! Then we found a lower priced ice wine--can't remember where we were, but it seemed just as good. I hope someone can think of the white wine you had that reminded you of ice wine, as I would love to try it. I don't like white wines normally, but do like the sweet ones. Had a white wine we brought back from Spain that was sorta like ice wine too. I am terrible about remembering names though...sorry!!! Hope you can get transfused with ML between visitors!

I think a Vignoles is a red grape. I tried a few of these wines in Herman , Mo. at a bed and breakfast weekend... I did not like it.

I really like Steinburg White ( Stone Hill).. It is crisp and sweetish.. It is about 10.00 a bottle.

Also, Rieslings are good whites. I like one called Polka Dot. again 10.00 a bottle

I also like the White Merlot.... Ummmmm Beringer's( sp)  HUGE bottle of that is 10.00.

    Enjoy!

I start chemo tomorrow ( terrified) and I hope you all will have a good glass for me as I am sure I will not be having "cocktails" for awhile.

    Love and peace

We will definately have a special "happy hour" in your honor tomorrow...what time shall it be, ladies? Hope everything goes well for your first chemo tomorrow, and that it will be much better than you are expecting. I can understand your anxiety...I'm sure I would be terrified too...but you will make it! Let us know how it goes....and make sure to have a good glass of wine tonight (I think you are able to the night before???)...and try to relax, and have a good nights sleep.....

Wahine--sometime tomorrow it will be 5 p.m. somewhere, so I say we toast to Laura all day long!!!

    Hi all

Newbie to this topic. I will be startig chemo July 31st. I too like my alcohol. Many of my friends are like: Are you going to be able to drink on chemo?  I tell them.....lets wait and see. I love my beer. I cant see ever giving it up. I am a HUGE Cleveland Browns fan and I tailgate every home game with a large group. Although I may not be able to drink as much as I used to, if I am feeling up to it, I plan on having a few.

I am glad I am not in the minority here!! Sounds like some of you know what I am going through

Hi Barra, Glad you are pulling up a bar stool and joining us here!

Jaybird, it is not as much fun, cause you aren't posting as much! Tonight I had  2 "half" drinks---only thing I could taste was the pepsi, not the Seagrams. I have a CT scan tomorrow, and in case there is a prob with my liver, I thought I had better cut back b4 my dr tells me to go cold turkey (no, not wild turkey, cold turkey....lol). I don't know how I will manage if I have to eliminate my happy hour, or cut it back....I only have two, but usually every night! My Dad will be 92 soon and is in great health, and has ALWAYS had happy hour every night (yrs ago he prob drank 4 a night, now just 2). SO, I thought that was a good example to follow, right? Well, today I was reading that women should have no more than 1 drink a day, and guys can have 2...now how is that fair??? SO if I have a prob w/ my liver cause of drinking, I am going to be pretty pissed off. Has anyone else been told they need to cut back--not just while on chemo or cancer drugs, but for health reasons?

Ok, ok....no more ranting. Let's all have another round! But yeah, Barra, it will be hard if you can't drink on chemo.I think some ladies were able to tolerate it ok, so hope you will get to still have your beer! Bad enough to have cancer, and chemo....need something to look forward to!

Laura, I hope your first round of chemo went well....we were thinking of you (and drinking for you!).

    Cheers everyone!

First I would like to welcome the newbies to this thread.  Chemo sucks, but you can do it!  I am the biggest chicken around, and if I got through it, then you can too!  My dr. said that I could have one drink a day, while getting chemo.

When I was undergoing chemo, I had maybe 2 or3 three drinks per week, when my dh was home.  He kept trying to make me drinks, and I really didn't want to drink, because I found that one of my favorites, Capt. Morgan & Diet Coke tasted funny, I couldn't taste the Vanilla, so I stopped drinking as much.  But, I DID have a drink after my FIRST tx, when I got home that night.  AND after my LAST tx, we went out to dinner with some friends and we bought a bottle of champagne to celebrate.  I had ONE glass of champagne!  I LOVE champagne!!

I have read that even when not undergoing chemo, we should only have ONE drink a day.  Yes it IS unfair that men can drink more.  Also, some have a theory that if your bc was ER+, then you can't drink alcohol AT ALL.  I was ER+ but still drink occasionally.  I am trying to cut back, but just because I can't drink as much any more, and since I'm taking Tamoxifen, I found that alcohol makes the hot flashes and night flashes worse.  It sucks but that has been my experience.

    Cheers!

Hi Laura, Sorry that the chemo is affecting you so badly. I hope it will get easier...I think some women have said it was worse at the beginning, but I have no idea, since I did not have it. Harley did it, and even had some drinks while undergoing chemo, so hopefully you will be able to tolerate that also. Hang in there!  :)

Harley, Thanks for agreeing it isn't fair that men can drink more! I guess I should feel lucky if I am still allowed to have 1 drink a day...won't know my CT results till Monday. I like champagne too! My DH got me Dom Perignon to celebrate being cancer-free after my bilat mast, and we sat on the "cancer steps" that I built between my dx and mast, and just had it a couple of wks ago. But you know what--I didn't really enjoy it--not sure if it was cause it was over $100 (I didn't like him spending that much), or it I really didn't like the taste...lol. I really like Korbel ($12), and Cooks (the asti spumante Cooks)--guess I'm a cheap drunk! Yeah, the alcohol prob makes the hot flashes worse, I agree...it sucks though. ALso, I think sugar affects mine...need to cut down on that anyway, but thats no fun. Sorry you are having to cut back on alcohol too. We need some cyber drinks here..no side effects!

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Don't have time to catch up with everyone right now, but am going to try and make some time this weekend to catch up.  Geez...between my job and my yard that's about all I get done these days.  I'm ready for a break!

Hope everyone is doing okay.....I'll BBL this weekend.

Everything from dinner plans to movies to best friends coming into town from NY. I figure enjoy these few weeks now before reality sets in.

    Cheers all!
