Hi Buds~  thought I'd pop in from work and say "hi"!   Hope everyone is doing okay.  I've been crazy busy. I am going to make time to drink this holiday weekend though! Shocker, I know!

Anybody had any new summer drinks?  I bought a mint plant just to use for mojitos and made them ONE time, and now my mint plant is dead.  Is that pathetic or what?

    Cheers,

    Donna

    Hello everyone...

I was told no wine to little wine.. so.. I chose little wine. I just finsihed AC WAhoooo and I did have wine. I had AC every two weeks. DD. I chose to have my wine..1 Glass on Friday and Saturday night. So.. 4, 6 -8 oz wine during those two weeks.

I have all my blood counts ( I cannot read them ), but no one told me my liver counts were high or low. I just got Chemo as planned.

Does anyone know what Liver counts are called on your print outs? I know WBC is "white blood count" but I cannot read the rest.

I start Taxol next monday.. and they may tell me TOTALLY no wine.. instead of.. "well, I'd rather you didn't but..."

Hope you all are doing great!

    Gods Love,

    Laura

hugggsss to all!  Have had back-to-back company, house problems, kid problems, car problems--you name it...now getting the Gustav backlash and it is dumping tons of rain on us--just what we need, more rain!   I think, seriously, since January, the most we have gone without rain is 4 days at any given time...I am terrified to think what our snowfall this winter might be!!!

Next round of company doesn't come in 'til Friday, so I'm bellying up to our bar and drowning my sorrows.  All of you who can't drink just yet, place your orders and I'll have one, or more, for each of you!!!

Donna, we may be over OK way soon--if we spend the night I'll give you a call!

Sam, we went to a casino today with Brenda and Alan.  Brenda and I played some goofy 2 cent slots.  (Again, I should have been on a dollar machine).  I didn't win anything; Brenda came out way ahead...but, we laughed our butts off!

This bar is so nice and peaceful--and, the drinks are free!    keep 'em coming!!!

Oh Junie - been thinking of you after seeing the radar for the past several days.  Hope you don't float away.  We are getting the tail end of Gustav and its only 60 degrees here today.  Where was the casino you went to?  We really enjoy driving an hour south to Newkirk, spend a couple hours and head home.

I have had a thing with Lemon Drop Martini's - man are they addictive and they sure can get ya!

    Cheers

Hi everyone! I'm in Hawaii right now, so will have to have some MaiTais for all of you! Well, actually drinking more beer here, and had champagne last night for my mom's 88th birthday. The beach is wonderful...but it is hot, and no a/c, so I'm melting...lol. Sorry for all your bad weather, junie...and for all that rain. We were hoping to get some of that in N AL, but it seems to have missed our area...and we sure could use it. My bro is coming in from AK, and we will also be going to Molokai next week....but will get online whenever I can, and join our cyber bar here! Nice to have a 24/7 happy hour...hope everyone is having a good week. And junie, hope things will start looking up for you.....not even winning at 2 cent slots...that sucks! Hope you got some free drinks from the casino though.

Aloha, Wahine!   I'd rather be in Hawaii right now, especially if it's hot!  Hope you have a great trip!  Happy Birthday to your mom!!!

Sam, the casino was In Siloam Springs, OK.  It's a Cherokee casino that they are expanding.  It will be something when they get finished with their remodling.   Takes about 1 1/2 - 2 hr drive to get there, so it is pretty much a whole day trip when we go.   We're probably better off that there's not a casino closer!!!  And, of all the nerve!!--the closest little bar across the MO line where we'd go for dinner/drinks/and me to play Keno--part of it burned down last week!!!  They don't plan to be back in business for about 6 months!!!

Hugggssss and congrats to Laura for finishing A/C...best wishes on the Taxol treatments.   Let us know if you can't have your wine--we'll have it for you!   Can't answer your liver count question--just give the doc a call and ask someone to explain it to you.  I would think, if the count was elevated, they would have said something...

    chuggin' and huggin'...................

Laura, if I were at home, I could tell you, since my liver counts were very elevated...then had to have a CTscan which showed my liver was normal. Had more blood work w/ liver panel just a few days ago, and it looks good now. I really wish I could remember...if I could see yours I would recognize it...something like "ALT" (I think), and Bilirubin (sp?)..like I said, I am not sure, but it seems like it was something like that. Hope you were able to call a nurse and find out for sure!

    Hey drinkin' buds!

I hope you're all well. I myself am stressed out and plan on having some wine tonight. It's rained here for almost 36 hours straight (yes really) and there's a lot of flooding going on. So far my sump pump is holding out but it runs non-stop which has my nerves on edge. If it goes out my back-up pump will work but it works at about 1/4 the capacity.

I was in NYC this week and had a wonderful Malbec (from Argentina I think) at a wine bar with an old friend. It was SO yummy! Then we had some Red Bicyclette Syrah at his place which I thought was inferior but I drank some anyway.

Tonight it's McWilliam's Shiraz (2005) from Austrailia that I got at Super Target for $7.49. Gotta love that store, KWIM? They also had 2006 vintage but I had the 2005 before so I stuck with that. Shiraz is good young so I'm sure the 2006 is fine. I'll buy some tomorrow if we don't float away.

    Cheers!

    Hi Jaybird,

Hope you don't float away! Wish we had "some" of your rain though at home in N AL, as I think it has still been dry there. This hurricane was so terrible, and I hope no one here at the bar suffered any losses. Still hot here in HI, but Molokai was such a great experience. Today is my b'day (and my bro's, but he went back to Alaska yesterday)...so had some nice champagne! And attended a nice Aloha Week parade..love seeing the pa'u riders on their horses in matching colors and and decked out in so many beautiful flowers. But it sure got hot, and I felt sorry for those in the bands, etc with the heavy uniforms. The wines you had sounded good, jaybird...I am glad you critique them, in case I can find some of them here. Bottoms Up! Hope everyone is doing fine, the bar has been pretty deserted lately.....

    Aloha,

    Kathy

Jaybird - I can relate to the rain.  We had 10.5 inches Thursday and Friday.  We live in an area that doesn't flood but we become an island.  DH tried to go to work Fri morning but was about a 1/2 too late in getting out so he had to stay home otherwise he wouldn't had been able to come back home that night.  The water finally subsided Sat and we were able to leave our development.   Thank god hurricane IKE stayed east of us.

Junie - how are you holding up - getting alot of rain again??

Kathy - Happy birthday, wish I was in Hawaii

hugggssss, Sam--guess who lives east of Sam!!!   glub...glub...the ML truck either floated or got blown away last night!   We lost power last night, finally got it back on several hours ago--thank goodness, it was really cool today.    Don't know just what did blow through--had a lot of rain all night and lots of minor tree debris in yard and street this morning.  We got over 11 inches' rain after Gustav.   12 inches was predicted after Ike, but unless we get more tomorrow, it won't be as bad.  I truly am waterlogged!

Jaybird--saw the Chicago flooding--wow!  Feel for you, girl!!   Where is all this water coming from!?!

Wahine, having a ML to toast your birthday!   Send some sunshine our way!!!  I've almost been on the wagon for a few days, fighting a sinus infection from hell!  Today is first day in almost a week that I've felt human.  Hope the antibiotics are chasing it away!

Hope the bar has been empty 'cause everyone is out having fun--maybe they're all getting too blitzed to drive here???  Sending cyber taxis out to round everyone up!!!

    hugggsssssss to all!!!             junie

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I am tired, so I think I'll just go now... I had a couple of glasses of wine with dinner, at a friend's house.

    Hugs to all,

No rain today (thank gawd!) but everything is still water-logged as it was cloudy most of the day and only about 62 degrees. Tomorrow should bring some sushine - YEA!!! - and the water levels should recede some more. Luckily I didn't flood (thanks to my fairly new sump pump) but there were many that I know whose basements did flood! We got Ike's pre-rain (does that make sense???) and I don't mind the rain but with two dogs and a toddler (and an ever-running sump pump) my nerves were shot days ago!!! (saw my chiropractor today so all should be good now)

Tonight it's La Linda Malbec from Argentina (less than $10). It may or may not be the Malbec I had in NY but either way it's really good! It's a big wine but not as fruit-forward as most Shiraz's, although fruity. Balanced tannins. I'll definitely buy another bottle as this may be my new/current favorite!

    Cheers to all!

Wahine, and others who asked about Liver Tests,

The two tests are AST and ALT.  The normal range for AST is up to 35 units per liter. The normal for ALT is up to 40 units per liter.

I just had a test a few weeks ago and my AST was 60 and my ALT was 84.  They retook the test and they were back down.  But, I haven't started chemo yet, so I know that I will have to back off the wine when I start.  Bummer!!!

Hi everyone! Finally catching up, and glad to be back at our cyber bar. Thank you for all the birthday wishes! The Aloha Week Parade was so awesome, and I just kept thinking they put it on just for my birthday...lol. Just got home on the 18th, and soooo much to catch up on here. My exch surgery is Monday, the 22nd.

Unbelievable for all the rain and flooding so many of you have had---it didn't get to us, even one iota. Could've used it too....just the rain....not flooding...or any of IKE's wrath.

Jaybird, thank god you have that sump pump! That LaLinda Malbec sounds good---do you have a nice wine store you get these at? You get to try so many that I haven't heard of.

Junie, I hope your area gets some dryness for awhile now....at least so the ML truck can come back and park at your house...lol. Hope your sinus infection is gone now too...esp since you had to be on the wagon with it. Bummer!

Sam, You had sooooo much rain! Thank god the water finally subsided so things could get back to normal. We finally got a little rain last night, but been pretty dry here.

Lisa, Very glad your latest liver test was back to normal! Funny, but thats how mine was, just a month or two after surgery...but I was on pain meds for 3wks or so and antibiotics for about 2 months! Sorry you will have to taper down on your wine once you start chemo. Just when you could use it the most. Not fair, is it.

Well....I get to have "happy hour" tonight and Sunday, then have to have some alcohol-free days after my surgery, cause of pain meds. I'll enjoy it while I can!

    Cheers everyone!

Welcome home, Wahine--we saved a bar stool for you!   Best wishes for your surgery on Monday--don't worry, me and others here will have a drink for you while you're down and out!  Sure wish we could have sent you some of our rain!   I just read today that our county (mind you, we live in NW Arkansas, almost at the Missouri line) has been declared a disaster area because of the rains and flooding due to Ike and Gustav several weeks prior...doesn't make a lot of sense to me!

We talked today on cell with relatives just southwest of Beaumont, TX.  They have always battened down the hatches and what's that Texas term--oh--hunkered down!    She says, never again--she's moving!!!!  They don't expect elec for another one to two weeks.   We talk to her and I feel bad about complaining about rain, rain, rain, rain...

hugggsssss to all--having a quick ML in honor of all and everything--and, not worrying too much about my ML truck--figure it will blow back in next week--just hope it comes back loaded up!!!!

    Cheers girls,

I went to the liqour store today (which is a 25 minuted drive cuz my new home is in a dry county WTF??) and I bought a big (1.75 whatever) of Smirnoff (sp?) vodka and it was $25.15!!! The same thing in FL is $16.99! Good grief.....prices in TX are high! (Or big I guess......:)

Junie, sorry 'bout your friends in Beaumont. It's wierd...the highway's here have the digital signs that say "do not drive to Houston or Beaumont, no gas available" pretty wild....

Nite girls. I wish we were in a real bar!!!! Cool

    Hugs, Traci

    Hi drinking buddies -

I haven't posted here in quite a while - just not drinking enough, I guess. We go down to Mexico at least once a year (live in Phoenix, and go to Puerto Penasco on the Sea of Cortez about 4 hours from here) and stock up there.

Having a glass of Chenin Blanc, watching college football (go ASU!), and nursing a head cold tonight. Traci, meeting in a bar would be a blast!

Wahine - hope the exchange surgery goes well for you. I'm scheduled for October 14 - boy, am I ready to get this expander out. The female breast does NOT begin an inch below the clavicle and extend under the armpit. Nor is it hard as a rock. The dh was lying on it last night, and it was, uh, a little uncomfortable.

    NIte, all

WW, I usually get my wines at a grocery store (I love my Meijer store the best) or at one of the big chain liquor stores. I try new wines when I'm out having diner and then try to find them (or something similar) when I'm out shopping. Sometimes I buy a dud and sometimes I find something really nice. I have to buy cheap(er) now but there are still decent wines out there for around $10.

Hi everyone, Sure is quiet around this bar! I'm having a glass of white zin--first drink since Sunday night as I had my surgery on Monday. Only took pain meds Monday, but didn't feel like having a drink--go figure! Anyway, made it through surgery just fine, and taking it easy for a few days.

Jaybird, we don't have a Meijer--don't think I have even been in one either. Nice that they have such a good selection of wines!

Sue, this exchange surgery is MUCH easier than the mast/expander surgery. I know you are anxious for your surgery to be over with---soon, soon, soon. I had a rough night after surgery, but since then there is hardly any pain. And the foobs seem to look pretty good so far. Are you having saline or silicone? I got the silicone, and it is softer than the expanders, but reminds me of how a water balloon feels! But the tightness from expanders is gone. You are almost there!!!

Junie, hope the ML trucvk was fully loaded when it blew back in front of your house!

Traci, where in TX do you live? My DD and family moved just north of Dallas about 3 mo ago. She got to stop here on her way to Atlanta this weekend--and I'll get to see her on Sunday too--YAY!

    Okay everyone...BOTTOMS UP!!!!

    Hi Buds~

Been a long time since I've posted.. but I'm still around and still drinking :-)

Haven't read back...my job has taken over my life.

I hope everyone is doing okay.  I am going to go back and read to catch up.

I joined Weight Watchers last week.  One of the first things I looked up is how many points in a glass of wine.  It's 2 pts for FOUR ounces.  Who drinks FOUR ounces of wine?  Not me!  :-)

    BBL

Hey Junie - are you still coming to OK this month?  If so, look me up!

Sisters and I are coming to ES the weekend of 10/24 - 10/26.  Number one on our itinenary is the ghost tour at the the Crescent.  Have you done it before?  We can't wait!   Maybe we can meet up for a brewski or two or so....

BF Mark just introduced me to Redbreast Irish whiskey.  Not a whiskey drinker, but must say it's damn smooth.....TOO smooth.  Just what I needed - another liquor I like.  Surprised

I am SOOOO digging this fall weather.  Used to LOVE summer, but not now that I'm smokin'  hot 24/7 LOL!

    Cheers,

Hi Donna, SO nice to hear from you again, and that you still are cozying up to the bar! Bummer how your job has taken up so much time...but glad you came back to join us. Yeah...I know about the being hot 24/7....I am enjoying the cooler weather too...

YAY! Good for you on joining Weight Watchers....since the wine has so many points...isn't liquor worse? I should go to that too..have some weight that needs to come off. Funny about liking that whiskey now!Laughing I've never had that one, but there aren't too many drinks I don't like, either. Just woke up with a sore throat, so no drink sounds good this morning (exept OJ..LOL). Frown

    Take care! Hugs,

    Hey drinking pals-

I wanna say welcome to the newbies, but it is not fair. They probably wanna welcome me, as I have not checked in for sooo long. I did read every post tongiht here, since April!!!

All is good with me. I have been working out 5-6 days a week since June, but not losing tons of weight (could be wine-related) I am looking more toned and love shopping for new clothes.

Junie- don't you have my cell #? Please call when you come to StL next- would love to see you. I am jealous of Sam91 and her Vegas trip. Maybe we could do that next, if the economy doesn't completely fail us? If so, I guess we can always stick with regional get-togethers. As long as I don't "drift away" again.

Janis- where are those pics. I thought for sure I'd check in and see lil Avery running the show by now! LOL, miss you!

I have many other threads to check in on but....

Oh Donna, you're going to ES?  I wanna go back. Are you going to sell some of your crafts? We need to touch base. BTW, I am still digging my ME cd and listening whenever I am cooking dinner or cleaning the house- thanks!

hey, hey, hey, ChristineK--WB !!!   So good to see you again!  You've been missed and worried about!!!   Come on back to ES--this past week has been the most perfect, wonderful weather!   Remember it sleeting and snowing in April?   We have had a very strange summer--take that back--still waiting for summer!!!

The StL kids have bought a house not far from the "hill" area, so we will have many future trips there.......one of these days--I have your number!!  Vegas was so much fun!   Will throw out a thought for everyone because I know a lot of mid-westerners post here--think about a get-together in Tunica, MS.....Memphis is a doable drive and an easy flight for a lot of us--not the Vegas glitz but fun, fun, fun...good food and good gambling......just something to think about!

    Good to see you again--huggggssssss

Hi everyone! Too early too drink (just woke up), but wanted to say hello. Now, when we are at the casinos, mornings are a good time for a bloody mary, and also my DH makes a wicked irish coffee, but I don't do that on a regular basis...lol.

ChristineK--nice to meet you! Glad you found the bar again and are joining all of us--plenty of barstools here. I will prob sound dumb for asking, but it is puzzling me....where is ES???

junie--I think Tunica would be great! I have a lot of trips planned, and my parents have a couple of month long visits planned, so it depends on when, as to whether or not I could be there. I agree, not as glitzy as Vegas, but closer for some of us, and better comps too! It would be fun to see everyone!!!
