    Mornin ladies

Sandy see how the Italians influenced u a long the way LOL.

Jack my sophisticated ways always come thru, that's why my favorite words are recockulous, ballcock, and throw in a cock a doodle do LOL Wow u lived all over the place and like Lori said where was ur fav. place. Lori and I are both nosy.

OMG I forgot about those candies Lori, we always had them and did use them for our tummy. <me mostly> Of course we were very liberal with just a little of the real stuff, just like we were with wine at dinner. Everything OK now with ur DH. And how's ur DD coming along??? It's been a while since u've mentioned her.

And Sandy I know I've asked u about Gordy and Leslie.

TGIF except I work harder on the weekends hahaha this is when if I were a man the guys woul come here much more just to punch me, I'm such a nag with them, I on't even know why. I want everything to go well and it actually does, somehow.

Joey's home today hes going to a concert Downtown Chicago tonight. And then staying in a hotel, or motel near Navy Pier. Oh a parent is going too.He does more than I ever did at that age, parents always like that he hangs with their kids, but I'm afraid their influence might screw up Joey. He is at that screwy age.Like anyone that smokes he doesnt like the smell of it around him so they dont when he;s around at least. I think he's to picky I can't change that tho. Sandy if I remembered where he was going u'd know exactly where.

Well have a good day everyone. Enjoy a glass of wine for me today.

Morning! Today is looking like a decent wintery day, not too cold!

goldie - I am a Folger's girl too! I'm glad you and DH are okay - phew! We still haven't made our plans for Florida, Georgia and Arizona yet, should be in March and yess we will be flying.

cami - We do seem to travel lots, but always to see family, so nothing too exotic - just a nice get away from the Canadian cold! I am looking forward to a week in Buscerias, Mexico December 2 - 9, an all inclusive on the beach, no cooking, meal planning, grocery shopping for a week!! That will be an adventure that I am looking forward to too.

NM - Yay it's Friday, Sadie will be happy to have you to herself for the weekend, so enjoy! Crazy about that insulin mix up?!

Bear - Don't worry about sophistication here, we are a very relaxed group. When it comes time to retire do you have a place in mind?

Well I am off to do some tidying before my grandkids come for a visit - hmmm - maybe I'll wait till they leave ;)Smile Cheers!

    Mornin' ladies,

The phone woke me up, who the hell knows what he said, good thing their names are on the phone. Anyway.

Janky I enjoy hearing about all of ur trips, especially if there r pics. So glad u do so well on them. An good for u going to Mexico to actually fully relax. Thats in just a couple of weeks too.

OK Jazzy good looking drinks, I hope ur drinking them just not taking pics.

Sandy thank you. I know I ask about Gordy alot but I'm really interested, like I said it's good news that I enjoy hearing about. And when it's new stuff it's always the best time.

U know I was worried about Joey last nite, concert in Chicago and staying over night there. Thank God there are phones now a days. I know it's silly but with all the cray stuff going on now it just seems logical to worry and I hate that.I didn't worry about my own kids the way I worry about him. Being a mom was much easier on me.But all the crazy things like now didn't happen then and they had no phones. Times' are a changing.

So what's going on this weekend for anyone. I have my shower this morning LLOL Now face it, I win with excitement. Oh and on top of that I get to work the phones, see I win again. If I were in the Derby u could bet on me not for the weight of the Jockey but of the horse.

It looks glumpy out this morning but being winter/fall that's what's happening.

Hope a good weekend is in store for everyone.

Cami - Not much going on this weekend. It’s college football Saturday so that will occupy most of the day. I do need to make a grocery list. Things are a bit depleted from emptying before going out of town. Also “need” to finish reading my current book as two more of my library holds have come in. Such a busy day! Good thing I already walked three miles or I would be totally lazy. And I am waiting for my Neulasta patch to go off. Your life sounds more exciting than mine!

It is finally kinda Fall here. Suppose to warm over the next couple of days, then more rain and some real cold temps. I have the funeral this coming week, lunch with friends, dinner with familyand cards. A visit with the oncologist will round out the week. Gotta get going on Christmas shopping. I have made a few purchases, but need many more. I try to shop local so limit the online looking to ideas.

Sandy - Is there a Pinot Grigio you can recommend? I need to take a hostess gift and I know she likes that wine.

Take care everyone and enjoy the weekend!

Good afternoon, Loungettes! Sadie and I are working on getting our, well mostly my, internal time clock straightened out again. I worked overnight Thursday into Friday ayem, came home, snoozed most of the day, got up and puttered around a little, then went to bed early and then got up early this ayem and have been puttering around the house wondering what time it is and what I'm supposed to be doing! On top of that we finally got that snow yesterday, just a coating but not melting off like I thought it would. It melted off the roads quick enough, but still showing on the grass and on the back deck. Winter has arrived! I heard the active intruder training was really good. I missed it to get a nap before working overnight. I better get in on the make up session! And I AM taking care of myself. I only agreed to work overnight cuz I have all weekend to recover. Won't be saying "yes" to anycoverage next week, got inservices to give and need to be able to speak without slurring my words!

Goldie--Yowza, what a thing to drive into! Hail can be wicked slippery. Glad you weren't on the interstate!

Cammy Cat--The people who got the insulin had to have IV dextrose (a form of sugar) to keep their blood sugar levels normal. I read somewhere that it was a long acting form of insulin, so several people had to stay in the hospital for quite a while. What is so scary is that this was a home for intellectually disabled people, so most could not even say what they were feeling to help the first responders figure out what was happening.

Chi--Wow, just when I think I have a pretty good handle on the ins and outs of the coffee world you dazzle me with more info! It's an endless world of wonder!

Bear--You sure have traveled around a lot!

Goldie--OH MY YES! Sadie has a6th sense and can tell the instant my attention is elsewhere!

Cammy--I hope Joey has a great time at the concert! WOW,, look out for that Man-mosa, it sounds potent!

Janky--Sadie has been very happy to keep me busy with ear scratches and tummy tickles today!

Jazzy--somehow pumpkin martini just doesn't sound right to me, but it looks like it's wonderful! Now the Lavender one, on the other hand, sound DEVINE!I love lavender.

Cammy so true about Cats! I love the saying "Dogs have masters, Cats have staff." The rest of my weekend consists of a Bean Suppah tonight with Mom and Dick, and more puttering around the house cleaning up, and getting some laundry sorted out. If I have enough energy I'm going to swap out the winter clothes.

Librarian--hold on to your hat, winter will probably arrive before you know it!It did here!

Goldie, this photo & statement work ever so well for Lui. Except he will drink my coffee. He's very sneaky. Sometimes I think he stopped by the Rainbow Bridge 🌈 & met my ❤️ dog, Sparky (Let's go Sparkin') before Lui was born. He seems to have some of the same quirks. Sparky would eat brussel sprouts with me. Not sure about Lui yet

    Aloha Cami,

Let's see if I can remember your questions. We aren't sure about where to retire. I never liked FL. I miss seasons. I like the Mountains and Beaches and people in HI. My happiest childhood memories are all in Alaska. We are talking about moving to some place in the NW. Maybe the Rockies. I lived in almost all of the referenced States as a child. I liked Mpls, but don't want to live there again. Mountains are important to my 'bliss'. So, I am open to retirement locations.

Maybe you can help me. I recently read an article about brown bread baked in a can. I have looked for a recipe & can't find one. I would live to make some. I went to 1/2 year of kindergarten in Farmington. Dad's family is all from New England. I spent a couple of summers at Rye Beach. I loved it!!

I love reading your posts. Thanks for sharing,

Cami, that's exactly my cats' attitude. I'm getting so frustrated with Heidi, who meows for food, then sniffs at the dish and paw-marks the floor to come back to it later. However, Happy--who has lived with only humans all his life except for the four weeks he was fostered in a home with adult cats and a dog--has no idea what paw-marking means, since the street-cat life that Heidi knew for her first six months is utterly alien to him. I'm SO tired of throwing away her food (she won't eat her "leftovers" now, no matter how much I doctor them with catnip and treats and maybe a bit of Sheba). They both have their own respective prescription diets, and try to eat each others'. AARGH!!

I am typing this sitting in my recliner. Happy is sitting on my chest & right arm, neck pressed against my face, purring like a motorboat. I am wearing a white chef's coat to keep his tan & white fur from schmutzing up my nice deep burgundy top. (I go through lint rollers like crazy).

Nancy, cool chicken pix. We have a couple of families in the neighborhood who keep chickens for the eggs, but we're getting more and more coyotes these days, and even bobcats in winter. (Yes, I'm in the city, blocks from the lakefront. We don't have deer...yet). It's gonna be a very rough and early winter, because the squirrels & rabbits are getting very fat.

Still teetotaling, to balance out the wines I drank Wed. night at the Cellars dinner. But yesterday was National Cappuccino Day (probably invented by coffeehouse owners & espresso machine vendors). There's something missing in the Nespresso espresso--it has crema, but not a very deep flavor; despite all the different varietals, I can't tell the difference between them the way I can with regular coffee beans or even Keurig (except the flavored varieties). Even the decafs taste the same as the regular. So I dug out the manual ROK espresso maker I got a few years ago. It looks sort of like a giant wing-type corkscrew on a frame & platform without the screw. I ground some fresh espresso beans--regular & decaf--filled & tamped the portafilter (coffee holder), locked it into place and turned on the electric kettle, then poured the boiling water into the chamber. It takes herculean effort to push down those "wings" hard enough to get the espresso to drip out into the cup--but the exercise is worth it. It produces crema (though not as thick as from an electric pump machine), but underneath it--unlike the thin Nespresso brew--is real flavorful espresso. Put some low-carb milk into the Aeroccino, and it actually frothed! Did it again tonight. So that was my DOTD.

Cami, I don't think we worried as much about our children when they were young is because the world wasn't as messed up as it it today. I hope Joey had fun at the concert. My grandma always had those Anise candies in a bowl at her house, also would give us Neco Wafers. As for the weekend, I've been cleaning all weekend!

Janky, how long will your stay be in AZ? My travels, flying usually, are to see family as well, and I never refer to them as vacations! Be safe in Mexico, and be aware of your surroundings. Lots of stuff going on there lately.

Jazzy, interesting cocktails. How were they? I think I would choose the lavender one. And again, how is you SIL coming along? I think we are all jealous of your "spa days" and trips.

Sandy, good luck and congrats to Gordy for the promotion. Funny that your cats want each others food, instead of their own.

JCS, sounds like you have quite the week! Christmas shopping for us is just gift cards for the kids.

NM, so dedicated! Glad you are not over doing and letting yourself be taken advantage of. I had a little chuckle over missing the training, due to the way we talk about others missing your class! But you had a good reason. Hope you had a nice bean suppah with mom and Dick.

Nancy, what kind of dog is Lui? Brussle sprouts....LOL. Oh I remember the chickens in HI. They have them in St. John VI where my DD lives too. Northern AZ has some pretty mountains and 4 seasons. Areas near Reno are pretty, but expensive! Utah is pretty as well, and probably NM too. To me, Wyoming and all up there is just too cold. I just Googled, brown bread in a can and some recipes popped up.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! Kinda gray and gloomy here this ayem, hoping the sun comes out later. Went to a Bean Suppah with Mom and Dick and Gloria and Bill. Gloria has dementia and her ability to talk is declining rapidly. She's starting to have trouble using a fork, too. Bill is so patient with her, it's amazing to see. It's hilarious when she has a moment of clarity and comes out with a real zinger of a comment! Sadie is just hanging out with me this ayem.

Jazzy--ugh, hate it when that happens. Enjoy the spa!

Bear--funny how the two dogs share some quirks! My goodness, you did spend time here in Maine if you remember Boston Brown Bread!

    Boston Brown Bread

    Ingredients

    • 1/2 cup (heaping) all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 cup (heaping) rye flour
    • 1/2 cup (heaping) finely ground corn meal (must be finely ground)
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup molasses (any kind but black strap is best for the best taste and dark color)
    • 1 cup buttermilk(or sour milk, or better yet, soured cream. Grammy used to save some milk or cream that was "going over" just for this)
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
    • 1/2 cup raisins (optional) (soak the raisins until plump, then dust with flour to keep them from either dropping to the bottom or floating to the top of the can)
    • Different cooks/different family recipes will have some cinnamon, or allspice, or nutmeg or ginger or some other spices or combo of spices. Not telling what my family's secret combo is!

Mix dry ingredients, then add wet, then add raisins.

Fill a 1 pound, very well greased coffee can 2/3 full.Bacon grease is best. Lard or shortening second best. Butter or oil and the bread probably won't come out of the can in 1 piece unless you are very lucky.Cover the can top tightly with aluminum foil.

    Steam the bread:

    On the stove:

Put a small bowl or glass cup in the bottom of a large pot to act as a steamer rack.Glass marbles work well, too, to keep the can off the bottom of the pot.Fill the pot until the water comes 1/3 to 1/2 way up the can. Cover the pot and put heat on high, get the water boiling, then turn it down to a fast simmer.

In the oven (preferred method, since the beans are in there baking already):

Put the coffee can with the bread in the highest sided oven pan you have. Pour boiling water into the pan around the can until the water is 1/3 to 1/2 the way up the can. Place in the oven next to the beans. Oven temperature varies by cook and by oven, 300 to 350 degrees, whatever temperature the beans are cooking at will work.

Both methods--steam for2 hours. Check regularly and top off with boiling water as needed. After 2 hours start checking the bread, if a toothpickstuck in the middle comes out clean, the bread is done, if not, keep steaming.Depending on oven temp, humidity, and a host of other factors it may need to steam for as much as 4 hours.

Now, my family recipe says to cool the bread for an hour before taking it out of the can, slicing it and eating. How long it cooled depended on when it got done in relation to when the beans were done. Mom would start it in the morning, and steam it in the little wood cookstove next to the beans, so the oven temp varied, but it always took at least 3 hours. The important thing is to make sure the brown bread is HOT when served.Mom wrapped up the sliced bread in foil and put it back in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes before serving.

My Dad, his father, my brother, and Dick all put a layer of hot brown bread on a plate and then cover it with the baked beans and let the bread sop up the bean liquor. Mom, her mom and I prefer the brown bread on the side absolutely dripping with butter (NOT margarine or any of those fake butter products) and eaten with a fork, served on a plate beside a bowl of beans with lots of the liquor to eat like soup when the beans are gone.

Leftover brown bread (Mom always made at least 2 cans, if not 3, just so there would be leftovers) make the best breakfast when fried in bacon grease or butter and topped with an egg.

Ah, what memories! Thanks for the chance to walk down Memory Lane!

Chi--Ah, the lengths we go for good coffee! Sounds like you really worked hard for yours!

Goldie--I was actually going to stay for the training and then go home and nap before going back in for the overnight until the HR Director told me there was a make-up being planned and she would make sure my name got on the list. I suppose it is ironic, though. My biggest beef is that people sign up for a class and then don't show up, or don't sign up, don't show up and don't contact me that they can't come. If people would tell me they can't come I could schedule make-ups that are more convenient for them. I don't think they understand that these things are required by Medicare and the State regs and that we can get closed down if staff isn't attending. I keep trying to tell people that, but it seems to fall on deaf ears. I did have a very nice bean suppah, I totally embarrassed Mom!Gloria's speech is repetitive at times, and a phrase she was saying reminded me of a song, I got to singing part of it, and Gloria sang along, so I did it again as we were leaving and got a whole bunch of other people to join in, too! "Here we go just a walking down the street, singing Do Wha Diddy Diddy Dum Diddy Do!"

Good morning - a lovely, sunny day with lots of fresh snow from overnight and the temperature is 2 degrees - very chilly! indeed!

NM - Sadie is beautiful! Somehow I had pictured her as smaller and not so sleek, I can picture her getting into a ton of mischief :)

goldie - We will spend 4-6 days in AZ if it works out, travelling wears me out more and more, so I want to see how that goes with Mexico, I will sure let you know though.

Well, I started this this ayem, then off to mind the grandkids for a few hours, so got home and here it is...way too tired to post anything more, so have an enjoyable rest of Sunday, catch you all later. Cheers!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Monday Monkey Day! Starting another week of odd hours, this time for classes and not for staffing reasons. But the first thing I need to do this week is get my office tidied up, it's become rather messy and disorganized. Sadie and I didn't get much done yesterday except for getting all the underwear and socks washed and dried, so at least I have clean undies!

    Thanks, Teka!

Minus--Did you know that B&M Baked Beans and Brown Bread is made in Maine? It's the only canned version that's considered eatable in this area! Frankly, with people not cooking beans all day in the oven anymore the canned version makes a lot of sense. Not quite as good as the old family recipes, but pretty good nonetheless! You can find B&M on the store shelves here, and also on Amazon as well at the Vermont Country Store site. Which is a great site, too!

Janky--Sadie weights about 60 pounds, is a decent sized doggo, and does get into all kids of mischief! Hope you had fun with the grandkids.

Chi--ok, sous-vide I understand, but reverse-seared? Can't wrap my head around that one!

Ok, I found this recipe, but not so sure I would ever want to actually drink it!

How To Make A Baked Bean Cocktail

    Ingredients

    • 25 - 35 ml baked beans
    • 1 large egg
    • 25 ml peppercorn infused vodka
    • 25 ml straight vodka
    • worcester sauce
    • 25 ml pure lemon juice
    • celery salt
    • 100 ml tomato juice

    Cooking Directions

    • Put Ingredients Into Glass

Crack one whole egg over a glass, and retain the shell and egg yoke whilst straining the egg white into the glass. Now add about 25 - 35 ml of baked beans into a separate shaking glass along with some of the baked bean juice.

    • Muddle The Ingredients

Using your muddler, muddle the ingredients together hard and thoroughly, making sure to really crush those beans and blend the ingredients together.

    • Add The Alcohol

Once muddled, add 25 ml of peppercorn infused vodka into your glass and 25 ml of straight vodka. Now add about 100 ml of pure tomato juice. Finally add the egg white from the other glass.

    • Dry Shake

Shake the cocktail now with the cocktail shaker attached on the top of the shaking glass.

    • Complete And Serve The Drink

Add plenty of ice to the shaking glass, and shake again thoroughly. Detach the cocktail shaker, leaving the drink in the shaking glass. Add a couple of dashes of worcester sauce to the drink, sprinkle a pinch of celery salt on the top, and then add 25 ml of lemon juice to the drink. Pour all of this straight back into the cocktail shaker, and attach a cocktail strainer to the top of the shaker. Take a tall glass, fill it about 2/3 the way up with cubed ice, and then strain the drink from the shaker into this serving glass.

    Mornin' ladies,

Oh Jazzy loosing a post WTF. I hate that.

OMG Jack u r all over the place and have a lot to pick from for retiring. An u sure got an answer for ur baked bean bread or whatever. And I have seen it in the Country Catalogue. but sure it's not as good. And making it sounds like a lot of work to me. But that's me. I do remember years ago baking pumpkin bread in big cans and taking them out and wrapping them and bring them to neighbors. But that's it and it would take all night to do. That's when I drank a couple glasses of wine an everything seemed easier to me. But now u know how to make what u want Jack so get to it. Does anyone remember doing that???

Lori how, much can u clean, u r always so busy doing these things. How do u do all of this. Ur such a trooper. Lori I slept about 17 hrs yesterday I dont remember writing my grocery list which they said they couldn't read at all so they just got my usuals, they said they called and I have the ear piece in, never heard them just don't remember. I collapse like that every so often and I don't feel rested just muggy.. Then I read what u gals do and and I feel soooo lazy. Oh well I'm happy ur doing things.

Sadie is so cute hahaha. Kin sounds like a pretty goo suppa and like the song too. What a recipe, lots of stuff an time to me anyway. Now Jack can't say she doesn't know how to make it.

Janky weather is happening fast here, I must have slept thru fall. Snow rain, warning of bad winds are all on the schedule here so we'll see what winter really brings.

OK now today is Veterans day, didn't they usually have school off and things closed or is that now offensive to people. Joey has school, he didn't used to, and things are going on as usual. Either my memory is really screwy or this has changed a lot

Wow Sandy I wish u made my coffee u make it sound so good. All right I know I must have asked before but do u celebrate Christmas both ways. I hope u do lights are so fun to have.

The Hallmark channel started Christmas months ago and that's recockulous to me, it took of my usual shows and it's 24 hrs. of movies. A little much I think.

OK Monday here it is and hope it's good for everyone.

    LUBS U ALL

Thanks NM. Yes, I did know B&M was a Maine company, started in 1867. My Mother used to serve this bread to us in the early 1950's in California with either baked beans or if she was in a rush (another heresy) "Beenie Weenies".

Thanks for letting me jump in off & on. I can't keep up with you lovely ladies but I so enjoy this thread.
