how about drinking?

Oh, and one of the best reds to have on the Thanksgiving table is Beaujolais Nouveau--inexpensive ($10-16), young (very--just picked & crushed!) and fruity. Gets shipped from France the third week in Nov. and goes on sale the third Thurs. My fave on the simple "fun" side is usually Georges Duboeuf; there are some more complex ones too.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Twofer Tuesday! I'm taking today off to help offset working Sunday. It was soooooo nice to just lie in bed cuddled up to warm Sadie this morning and watch the room lighten up gradually. I was so dead tired by the end of the day yesterday it wasn't funny. After I got home I sat down to enjoy a drink and Sadie had to wake me up to go to bed a couple hours later! That's OK, though, we had a very thorough cuddle, belly rub and massage time before we fell asleep!
Cammy Cat--the nurse that I covered for has been missing a lot of work, and is on the verge of being dismissed for excessive absenteeism. Frankly, it would be a relief to see this one leave.
Librarian--No heat could be a problem, glad it isn't a big one for you! The weather guessers are talking about snow here around the end of the week, yuck. Fortunately, It's not expected to stick. I like the idea of turkey burgers for Thanksgiving!
Goldie--the nurse I covered for used to work with me in Hospice. I wasn't impressed with her then, either! I'm thinking she's going to go back to that office, that office is desperate for staff and trying to hire back several nurses who left with big pay increases. Personally, I hope they are successful at that, then all the troublesome workers will be in one place and not where I have to deal with them!Am I being negative or what? The time change has been explained to me over the decades as (1) being for dairy farmers so they don't have to get up in the dark for the morning milking, debunked when I learned that the cows can't tell time and get milked at the same time, the clock just says a different time, and the evening milking ends up in the dark instead of the morning milking; (2) to save energy by having working people getting up when there is sunlight and not needing to turn on electric lights, debunked when I realized that working people just turn on the electric lights in the evening instead of in the morning, so no energy is "saved"; (3) to make morning traveling to work and school safer by having the sun up in the mornings, debunked here at the eastern edge of the time zone where it's dark on the way to work/school AND on the way home from work/school in winter, so it just moves the risk from morning to afternoon; (4) so there is more time for farmers to plant, tend and harvest crops, debunked cuz farmers don't plant, tend or harvest in the winter, and work from sun up to sun down regardless of what time the clock says it is.Bottom line, since the invention of electric lights and with the current global economy, it doesn't make a lick of difference where you are and what time your clock says since you could be interacting with a person or business in a totally different time zone, or even across the date line!
Bear--Companies like FreeStyle make their money off the strips, not the meters. That's why they practically give away the meters, once you have one you are locked into their strips and will be captive, repeat buyer.
Morning, Janky! I actually don't mind helping to take care of the residents, and the staff that were working took good care of me, too, making sure I got meals and breaks. It's the self-centeredness of some people that really irks me.
Chi--Wow, sounds like practicing law can be even more draining than working in health care! Glad your tummy is better.

Mornin' ladies,
Sandy u really did about everything in law, u should have taught it Ur knowledge is spread all over. U must have really worked hard. And u actually answered my question about Thanksgiving wine, but I don't remember asking it. LOL
Lori u always ask me my crazy questions. My Dr., for whatever reason, that concerns her is just about blood counts, it's really nothing but she 's just not happy with them but not enough to do much. And she wants me to get my lungs tested <IDK how> but sending me to another Dr. Well u know I'm not rushing And she zeros into my pain count cuz walking is so hard for me, so I of course zero in on not actually telling the whole truth about my pain level or I'l have to see yet another Dr. That's how she is, that's why I never go into that but u always catch me.
Oh Oh when u figure the wrong key tell me, cuz I think we're both hitting it.
And talking about insurance companies I never understand anything, it changes all the time and they purposely write with confusion to people like me. Like the tax form, I've always said when I make a call for either of these talk to me like I'm 4 yrs old, then I think maybe I could understand it. But I usually don't anyway. And I know nothing about blood strips.
I knew when u got to know Kim u'd see how dedicated she is to her profession, She;s great.
Holy Chit it's only Tuesday, it seems like it should be Thursday.
Dan came over last nite, his usual time 11pm, stayed til almost 2am, I'm so tired. But he's so damn sweet to me I don't care We talked about Thanksgiving so he;'s having it this year...we're already missing Joanne but nothing we can do.
Everyone have a good Tuesday.

Janky, I thought I posted this, looked back but couldn't find it. when, why and for how long will you be in AZ?
NM, how ironic that that nurse worked with you at hospice. And no, I don't think you are being negative at all. I don't like it when people don't pull their weight. Great explanation of the time. Glad you and Sadie got to snuggle, sleep in, and keep each other warm.
Cami, so your white or red blood cells must be low. And yes, I'm watching you and always will! So don't think you will ever get anything over on me girlfriend! Dan loves you so much, but I certainly couldn't have someone coming over at 11 pm and staying until 2 am!
DH was having a terrible toothache over the weekend, our dentist is so sweet, told him to come in yesterday at 4:30. Absecssed wisdom tooth, he pulled right then and there. He is doing much better this morning.
Nancy, here is a map of AZ and NM, I'm in Concho. Jazzy is in Albuquerque, so not far from me at all.

Morning all from snowy, blowy, blustery Alberta - snow is coming down like crazy, and the wind is howling so not a very nice day to have to go outside if I don't have to.
NM - That Cranberry champagne looks yummy, I think I will try it. It is nice to have an unexpected sleep in isn't it? I am sure Sadie appreciates it too!
Chi - Thanks for the wine tip, I am going to see if I can get the Beaujolais Nouveau here.
goldie - Our trip is still in the planning stages, I really have to get on it though. We will go to Georgia, Florida then home through Arizona if we can make that work. We have friends who spend October through March down there near Yuma or Mesa, and we have never spent a vacation in a desert, dry area, so would like to do that (we like the humid ocean).
misty - I just looked and you are in the opposite direction from Frostproof and Sarasota, about 2 and half hours from Frostproof. Then I looked again and you are about 4 hours from Brunswick GA, then another 2 - 3 to Sarasota, you are near water too it looks like.
Stay warm everyone Cheers!

Aloha Ladies!
Someone at my house (me) made ground beef with 1/2 Cup of Chili Powder, 1Tbsp Taco seasoning, cooked in olive oil & another one that tastes like chili peppers. Threw that on corn chips and added a couple cups of shredded Mexican flavored cheese on the top & put it in the oven to melt the cheese. My stomach complained from 2AM to 4:15AM. NOW I remember thst I should've had a shot of Jagger & been done with it.

ChiSandy,
I will go wine hunting. Thank you so much for your assistance with suggestions. I am taking notes.
The champagne and cranberry juice looks good. It would be good for the urinary tract, right?
I lost my ability to multitask. I gotta finish my Costco list so I can get there when they open. We are out of butter & I cannot bake w/o butter. Wonder if I can drink wine (red,) & bake at the same time?? Could be fun trying

DH and I have been having a great time in the mountains. This part of the world is just beautiful. I wonโt post too many pictures, but here is one of me on top of Black Balsam Knob. Hike turned out to be a bit more than moderate with much elevation change. Still worth it!

JCS, wish we had mountains here. (No, I didn't do the Willis Tower 106-flight stair climb, thank you very much).
If I could do carbs and had no restrictions on alcohol (being ER+), I would be doing a "Galloping Gourmet" and enjoying a "short slurp" while baking, cooking, waiting for the food to cool off...
Lately, around here there have been signs popping up on street medians & strip mall lawns offering big $$ for glucose test strips.
DOTD tonight was Twining's "Jasmine & Pearls" green tea sachets. I bought a packet of them last time I visited London in 2017: Twining's has a Tea Museum & shop on the Strand. I plan to replenish my supply later this month (holy chit--it's in less than 3 weeks)! I adore jasmine tea: its aroma evokes powerful memories of when I was 17 and my dad took me on a day trip to Philadelphia and Valley Forge. Before heading back to Brooklyn, we stopped for early dinner at a restaurant in Chinatown (I thought it a hoot that Philly's Chinatown was located on "Race" Street--later on, I found out that many towns have a "Race St.," named for "mill race" thoroughfares analogous to Seattle's "Skid Road," along which logs were skidded...from whence comes the expression "on the skids" and the name "skid row" for the homr of the down & out). In Brooklyn, all our neighborhood Chinese restaurants were Cantonese-American, serving chow mein, chop suey, egg rolls and egg foo yung; the only tea was oolong, brewed so strong & black it required dumping half a shaker of sugar into the little cup to make it palatable. But this restaurant served jasmine tea and dim sum--I was enthralled.
(My first visit to Philly was our 7th grade class trip--the highlight of which was sitting in the gallery at "American Bandstand." For all I know I might have been seeing our own duckyb1 dancing)!

OK I haven't read anything yet, but I'm awake and something came to my mind...It'a a well running machine at times. OK someone talked about hangers and the little like rabbit ears they leave on sweaters. Well HSN has Joy Mangano and her hangers very sturdy and made with velvet backing so nothing slips off ever and no marks of a hanger on clothes and if u get colors nothing runs. U can hang man's pants and jacket on one nothing slips off or bends the hanger. Another good part is they actually use less space, so if u change all ur hangers to these u have about 1/4 to 1/3 more closet space. The first time I did that no one believed me and had to see for themselves. Anyway just thought I'd give anyone a heads up on these hangers. Other places are now making them but honestly they're not as sturdy. So that's my home tip for the 2019 year, cuz this only happens maybe once a year I come up with something useful, that's why I have to send it out ASAP otherwise of course I'll forget.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Hump Day!Sadie and I shared a totally lazy day yesterday. Did absolutely nothing but watch horror movies and snooze in the recliner with my feet on Sadie's back or tummy, depending on her position. It felt so good! Up with the first alarm this ayem, and ready for getting things done at work. I think that day off was just the ticket!
Cammy Cat--Telling your doctor the truth about things is the best way to go, you know. But I hear you about having to go to even more docs, not fun. And insurance companies are totally horrible about being understandable, that's how they make a lot of their money, I'm sure. Just not right. First holidays after losing a family member is always so hard. Hugs.
Morning, Misty!
Goldie--Those were the reasons for the time change given to me when I was growing up. I'm sure the real reason is something totally different, and probably totally political. That sort of insanity seems typical of political decisions. Glad DH got the toothache problem diagnosed and taken care of so quickly! What a relief that must be for him.
Janky--Sadie seemed to enjoy the sleep in, especially the lazy wake up with tummy tickles!
Bear--YIKES!HOW can you eat that stuff??????? My mouth is getting blistered just reading about it!!!!!!I drink and cook all the time. I cook the foods requiring carefully following a recipe first, and gradually move onto the less structured or make-it-up-as-I-go dishes later, and things seem to come out just fine! Either that or I don't remember the failures!
Librarian--WOW!!!
Chi--jasmine tea is soooooo wonderful. I love the aroma and the taste. And you have such wonderful memories to go with that!
Cammy Cat--Those hangers sound lovely! I have many like that and they do work great. I've also found a different way to hand sweaters and the like to avoid the "rabbit ears" on the shoulders that works well but does take up space.

Janky wow, you are going from one side of the country to the other. I assume you are flying to each? My next appt down to Phoenix is 25 of this month, then again near Christmas. Any idea how long you will be staying in my neck of the woods?
Nancy, I can't blame your tummy and I doubt that Jager would have helped! OMG, I got so sick on that one time, don't think I'll ever drink it again!
Great views JCS. I love the mountains, which is why I never mind my 4 hour drive to and from the doctors. It's a very pretty ride. Some day I will stop and take a few pics.
NM, sounds like you got a well needed rest day and up and at em, raring to go this morning! How is your mom and Dick? Been to any bean suppahs recently, or do they quit for the winter?
Cami, it sounds like you just woke up in the middle of night, thinking of these hangers and had to sell us about them. I don't hang my sweaters, I fold them.
Heading to another Dr. appt today for DH. Seeing an orthepedic, concerning his one of his legs being somewhat numb and hurts. He has also been walking flopping his foot down when he takes a step, he also shuffles his feet when he walks, both of which drive me nuts! Tomorrow is skin cancer check for him. Thunder and lightning here this morning, I hope the rain, if we get any, holds off until we get out of here.
Looking on the internet for daylight savings, I found this.
Why do we have Daylight Saving Time?
The main reason for daylight savings time is to make the most out of daylight as long as possible and save energy. If people are awake during the sun, people will use natural light and turn on their home lights later. Therefore, less electricity will be used.
Daylight Saving Time's potential to save energy comes primarily from its effects on residential lighting, which consumes about 3.5% of electricity in the United States and Canada.Delaying the nominal time of sunset and sunrise reduces the use of artificial light in the evening and increases it in the morning.

Mornin' ladies,
Just had 2 calls read everything again then another call now I forgot.
Lori I hadn't gone to sleep yet when my hanger came to mind., Kim good hanging but mine is easier. LOL
Lori before I met u I honestly didn't know any part of AZ got even cool let alone snow. I was in AZ twice but in Scottsdale and all I remember is way to hot for me and as u know Jodie lived there for about 2 yrs in Phoenix again way to hot. Oh and sand storms ick. All I care about now in AZ is u and how ur doing.
Bear that concocktion sounded good to me, but eating it would be a whole other story...ur brave. The view is wonderful it just goes on and on. Thanks for the pic. I like champagne better when mixed I think and yrs. ago the popular thing was a champagne cocktail which was a glass of it with a sugar cube in it. <my memory might be all off of course>
Janky it's so good u get to travel so much, ur so busy in such a good way.
Jazzy isn't rehab a good sign???
Kim ur day sounded wonderful and how u deserve it, Sadie too. The DOTD is tasting good even tho it's virtual. Give Sadie a belly rub from me.
OK Sandy what stood out to me was AMERICAN BANDSTAND wow that was an every day watch for me, like Bob and Justine and the rest and I loved how they danced the slow dance, it was different than what we did in our area. Haven't thought of that in a long while.
OK daylight Saving time. I think it was for the farmers originally and about 40 yrs. ago someone said the farmers don't really need this so let's stop it and they did.Well parents complained all over the place cuz their kids were catching a bus or walking in the dark and no one wanted that, so they went back to it, just tweaked the dates. I was there ladies, that's how I know. I am the original Old and the Beautiful......they tweaked that name too.
Shower day today, so that's a couple of hours oh not the shower the talking with my niece. Believe me she's as sweet as they come. And I'm so blessed to have her.
Have a good camel day.

Aloha Ladies,
It is after 8 PM, that means bed time in our house. I spent a lot of time today trying to find info on the breast surgeon I'm going to see. He didn't come to Oahu until July of this year.
I didn't REALLY use that much chili powder. But it was a lot, but didn't taste hot. My stomach doesn't like a lot of grease. DH tells he (he went to Europe several times with his 1st ex-wife) that in Germany they use Jaeger as medicine & think Americans are funny to drink it for other reasons. I was so desperate that I tried it for my stomach & it worked. I was promised food, one St Patrick's day when I met some people after work. I remember a couple of Irish beers & then I drank Goldschlagger with the guys. It was probably like that Jaeger experience. DH is in bed. With the dog thst adores him. Mama's boy is waiting for me to head that way.
Sleep well. I will check in 1st thing, Island time.

Kim, as soon as I Googled "sweater shoulder bumps" I got a bunch of videos on how to remove them: while wearing sweater or knit top, drench the bump and surrounding shoulder, and massage till it lies flat. Drape the garment over shower rod or lay flat on towel to dry; when dry, either store folded or hang as per the instructions you pictured above. I've decided to store all my knit tops & sweaters folded, either in clear boxes or hanging shelves. Hanging them as per the instructions does take up more room in the closet or on the rack.
Tonight was a Portuguese wine dinner at Cellars. Whites were a Vila Santa Verdelho, Alvarinho (same grape as the Spanish Albariรฑo) and a Tons de Duorum, all 2017; reds were a 2017 Vila Santa and a 2013 Foz de Arouce Baga. Finally, Dow's 10 yr. Tawny Port. Tough limiting myself to an ounce of each, but I managed. Staying up late enough to make sure I don't get heartburn during the night. I'm really not supposed to have port at all (too sweet), but I was caught up in the moment (and it was paired with an awesome dessert--first dessert I've fully eaten in 5 months). Broke my heart to have to turn down seconds. Back on the straight and narrow now. No more wine for the rest of the week.
I've never tried Jรคgermeister, but if it tastes anything like Fernet Branca, I understand perfectly why in Europe it's considered a medicine and not a cordial or aperitif. (I remember a billboard ad campaign for Jรคger featuring B&W photos of twentysomethings grimacing after trying it), Fernet Branca tastes so grossly bitter that my stomach pleads, "if you stop giving me that, I promise I'll behave." (I found out about it years ago from a food critic/traveling restaurant reviewer who needed to eat two large meals a day). We have our own homegrown brand of alcoholic yuckiness: Jepsen's Malรธrt. Supposedly it's as much a part of being a Chicagoan as racking up a pile of parking tickets or eating a hot dog topped with yellow mustard, bright green relish and the contents of an entire vegetable crisper on a poppyseed bun. Lived here 41 yrs. Two out of three? Check. Malรธrt? No way.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Thirsty Thursday! Going to be an interesting day at work with Active Intruder training this afternoon. Scary the things we have to be prepared for these days. The big first snow storm that was being predicted to give 3 inches or so seems to be fizzling out, or, rather, never getting really organized. The Weather Guessers are calling for a "coating" to less than an inch. But the cold coming in after is still the same. I guess summer is truly over! It'll be interesting to see how Sadie reacts to snow this year. Sometimes she really likes to play in it, sometimes she treats it like rain and avoids it. She says "woof" to everyone!
Good Lord, I just heard a news report about a group home whose residents and a couple of staff got insulin instead of a flu shot. This is the second time this has happened this season that I've heard of.This time it was a Pharmacist giving the shots. What is going on here????
Goldie--I think I really did need the rest day, I feel good again now. It's amazing how much of an effect the time change and working one 12 hour shift can have on a body! Mom and Dick are doing well. Bean suppahs continue through the winter, waiting to hear where the next one will be. Hope the DH's doc can figure out what is going on with the leg and foot.Interesting about the time change and how much electricity goes to residential use.
Jazzy--WOW! Sounds like SIL is making progress!
Cammy Cat--Kitty Lasagna, YUM!I was a wonderful day just vegging out with Sadie. And I feel so much better for doing it! Sadie says THANKS for the belly rub! Aha, finally, an authority on the origins of the time change!
Bear--any amount of chili powder would be too much for me! I think a lot of drinks get used differently in Europe, and probably more reasonably, too.
Chi--yeah, that sweater hanging method does take up space, especially with bulky sweaters.I have more closet room than shelf room, so it works for me. I envy people who can dedicate an entire drawer or shelf to sweaters!

Cami, it does get very hot down in Phoenix, you couldn't pay me to live there. It gets hot enough up here in the mountains!
Sandy, Jager tastes like black licorice.
Nancy, have you always lived in HI? My DH and I got married there.
NM, active intruder training and people getting insulin instead of flu shot. Indeed, what is becoming of our world.
Coming home yesterday, it was cloudy and rainy. Seen a huge black cell that we were heading to. All of a sudden, the road turned white. I had been going rather fast, 70 or so, not sure why I started to slow down, but the road was covered in hail, probable 2" and was slick as could be. I couldn't hit the breaks as I was already sliding. The cleared up just as it started, nothing gradual. It was heading towards the interstate, but haven't heard anything on the news about. Thankfully where we hit it was on a country road and no traffic. DH has to have MRI and today is dermatologist.

Mornin' ladies,
Jauger, licorice sounds like Anisette Italians might use for an upset stomach. Actually I always forget about that. U know we talked about sweaters and hangers for 2 days now. LOL
Lori very lucky about the hail, never drove on that but enough of that stuff could be lethal, Wow Lori sounds like u an ur DH are on Dr. duty for a while, oh that is so xhausting, hope u get a break soon.an everyone is doing well.
Wow Jack u do go to bed early, well one thing u can't complain about ur weather keeping u awake. Hope u've recovered nicely.
Kim INSULIN, OMG what can that do if u don't need that. I can't imagine making that kind of mistake.
Jeez I can't get my bearings yet, the phone woke me up and kept going before coffee. Well now yay I have it I still am twisted.
Oh wow I fell back to sleep, I wrote this about 5 hours ago and fell sound asleep at the keyboard as I'm looking at it right now.

I love anisette & sambuca--most often in an espresso as a "caffe corretto." When I was little, we used to go to an Italian (mostly Sicilian) restaurant my dad's friends owned. The waiter would bring a little flip-drip "machinetta" pot and a bottle of anisette, telling us kids that we couldn't have any because it was "very strong coffee and very strong water for Mom & Dad." Of course, as soon as I was old enough to go into Manhattan I'd head to Little Italy and make a beeline for Ferrara to have cappuccino and cannoli or baba ricotta au rhum. One day I decided to try plain espresso (at 18, I could legally drink in NY back then), and I was hooked. So I bought a little jar of Medaglia d'Oro freeze-dried espresso "crystals," which became my morning eye-opener before heading off to the bus & subway for classes at Brooklyn College. We couldn't afford the equipment to make the real thing back then.
When Bob & I got married and moved to Seattle I treated myself to a "machinetta," little blade grinder, and some Italian roast beans from Starbucks (they only sold coffees & teas back then--no espresso drinks). Over the years I moved up the "buzz ladder" to first a moka pot, then an electric version, then Krups & Saeco pump machines with steam wands, then a Rancilio Silvia (about the same time I began roasting my own beans) and Rocky grinder, a Pasquini Livia (which died spectacularly & irreparably after only four years), a used Mazzer Mini grinder I got for a steal from an espresso bar that went out of business, and finally the Andreja Premium (aka "La Cora," made to the specs of Cora Italian Specialties in Countryside--not far from you, Cami) I've had now for 11 years, getting it serviced every year or two. Recently, Cora replaced the burrs on the Mazzer Mini which made a huge difference. Alas, "La Cora" blew her tank water sensor and thermostat again--but she's due for maintenance anyway. So I'm trying to satisfy my "fix" with the litlle Nespresso Pixie capsule machine I originally bought for trips by car and Aeroccino 4 auto-frother (which like its predecessors is extremely finicky about the type and freshness of the milk it will froth, but at least it will heat it). I keep a jar of instant espresso powder (can't find the crystals) for cooking--my secret ingredient in chili--and sprinkling on vanilla or coffee ice cream. (As I'm lo-carb, no anisette or ice cream for me, unfortunatelly--cordials have too much sugar). I haven't home-roasted in five years, and have about 5 lbs. of assorted green coffee beans--might try roasting some and see if they're still ok.

Goldie I've only been here 5 years. I've lived in Seattle, Anchorage, Connecticut, NC, Minneapolis, & Florida. We want to try another State when the Navy hands out the orders for the Mainland. Whenever that might be. My husband is a FL native. Aren't too many of those.
I suppose if they discovered that insulin was used instead of flu vaccine then they could monitor and have some yummy something to help it rise.
There are some very sophisticated ladies here. Time to bring out a harp & pretend I fit in!๐ถ๐ถ

Cami, I remember too Anise candies. My grandma always had them. And we are both doing fine. He just had a few spots burned off, the top of head and 2 spots just below his eye.
Sandy, way over my head and pea brain to understand alot of what talk about! I don't know a thing about those fancy coffees and machine. My coffee is Folgers and that's that! LOL.
Nancy, you don't need to be sophisticated to be here. We welcome everyone. You sure have lived in a lot of areas. I don't think I would like all that moving around. Did you do that with children? I guess you get used to it. Where was your favorite place to live?
