Monday Remembrance Day - I stayed home and watched the live feed from our local Legion, my DH went.

Our schools and banks are closed today and many businesses only open after 11:00 am, as well some businesses are not working. It is bitterly cold here, though the sun is shining, ugh!!

NM - I will look for that BM bread next time I travel, just to try it. Wow Sadie is big - and beautiful!

chi - I don't get the reverse sear either, but I am sure it was delicious!

has anyone heard from illimae? seems like a while since she was here? though I guess we can all be sporadic at times, that is the beauty of this warm, wonderful space, drop ins are welcome :) xoxoxo Hugs and good wishes to everyone - stay warm. Cheeers!

We decorate for Christmas (battery-powered mini lights on the arborvitae outside and wrapped around the garlands on the porch stair banisters, a wreath on the door, and faux-evergreen garlands & stockings on the mantel along with the holiday cards we get--which usually spill over on to to the piano top); exchange gifts on Dec. 24, and usually go to friends (or to Fireside Inn) for dinner on the 25th. We have a (fake) pre-lit tree and 48 years' worth of ornaments. We don't hang plug-in lights because it's a pain to do and an accident waiting to happen. We like to drive up to Lincolnwood and gawk at the elaborate light displays. As for Hanukkah, we have an electric menorah and an LED "Happy Hanukkah" sign in the front window, dreidel lights in the kitchen window, and a real menorah with candles on the stove (where the kitties can't knock it over). I fry latkes (potato pancakes), though this year I won't be able to eat them. Since the custom is to eat stuff fried in oil (yes, even potato chips and donuts), I can make my keto mini-pancakes so long as I pan-fry them in olive oil.

We got >3" of snow here by the lake, and this time it stuck. The landscaper came and cleared the sidewalk so we don't get fined, and the steps and rear walk so it's safe to walk between deck & garage. Not enough snow...yet...to have to dig out the concrete "apron" behind the garage.

All "reverse-sear" means is that the pan-searing is done at the end, not the beginning, of cooking,

    Mornin' Ladies,

Sandy ur home must look beautiful for the holidays. Lots of work tho the the end prize would be fantastic to look at. And I think u know I was going to ask about food too. U get to celebrate 2 separate types of celebration, sounds good to me. How are u feeling??? Are u up for all the decorating. That's what I always enjoyed, now I can hang about 3 ornaments on and that's about it, but someone has to stand right next to me or the whole tree might go down. LOL But love the end result.

Minus poop in whenever, we all like to see u, u don't come often enough. Funny like I sai Joey had school yesterday, still dont get it. I think Illi was going someplace this last week , I forget so easily, but that's what I remember now.

It's quiet in here this morning. Oh Sandy I was surprised to see all the snow yesterday and it stayed around with some slippery streets and now it's really cold out there, bbut will warm up this weekend to a more normal temperature. Whatever that is.

Hope everyone has a good day.

NM, I think I'll pass on the bean cocktail! But interesting none the less. We put pinto beans on our corn bread. Made DH some last night.

Cami, as for all the cleaning, I think sometimes I have a little bit of OCD. But what I did, needs to be done. You know, wash the floors, clean the bathrooms, and then of cours laundry and dishes. I really don't do that much, but it does take me a couple 2-3 days to wash the floors with my steam mop, that gets done about once a month. You must have been exhausted, to sleep 17 hours...wowsa! I am a very light sleeper. As for knocking trees down, my mom did that to our tree one year, I guess we didn't have enough stuff in the back! The following year we put caution tape around it.

Sandy, you do more Xmas decorations than I do. I haven't even put any up over the last couple of years. No one to spend it with, so why bother. But DH wants to put one up this year, just a small fake one. I think I gave all my lights away, come to think of it! Hmmmmmm.

We are going to take off Sunday for Moab, glamping this time at the Hilton. There's a gentleman on the boards whose wife is getting ready to pass, I was sharing that with my DH, it upset him and wants us to do things as long as I'm able! Our friends Mike and Jan, Mike takes his mom dinner every Sunday, I want to meet her, we should be there by dinner time and Jan works with special ed kids, I used to do that, so I will go to work with her one day. I'm sure we will head up to his cabin in the moutains for a meal and hopefully the bobcat that comes around every year, will be there. He feeds this thing, and it comes back every winter. I guess he just lays on his porch and in his yard!

Our internet was down for 2 days, hence my not being here!

Good Morning, Loungettes! Happy Twofer Tuesday!Have a late start at work, have an evening CPR class tonight. Then an early morning tomorrow for classes but get done early, too. Then the Wednesday, Women and Wine is having a temporary Thursday meeting (the place we want to go to isn't open on Wednesdays). Then I'll see where I am with my hours and adjust on Friday. Probably end up with a short day Friday. Got up to 2.5 inches of snow this ayem, with anice crust on the top of sleet/freezing rain. Welcome to winter. Sadie took one look at the snow on the deck and then looked at me as if to say "Really? You expect me to go out THERE?In THAT?" She finally did, though.

Cammy Cat--Making Boston Brown Bread isn't really hard, it just takes a lot of time to steam. Back in the day we would be home all weekend so it was no big deal to check the beans-n-bread every so often and top off with hot water from the tea kettle on top of the stove keeping hot. And having the oven or stove going helped keep the kitchen warm on cold winter days.Your memory is good, things have changed a lot, Veterans Day is not the big holiday it used to be. I can remember when schools and businesses were closed and it was considered working a holiday if you worked on New Year's Day, Washington's Birthday, Lincoln's Birthday, Easter Sunday (and sometimes Good Friday),Patriots' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after ( a great treat when Thanksgiving came before your weekend off!), and Christmas Day.It is very recockulous to have 24 hour Christmas movies on Hallmark already!Whatever happened to all the good Thanksgiving movies???

Minus--Beenie Weenies is ok if the Weenies are red snappers! The hot dogs are still an integral part of a bean suppah. I usually sneak one home for a treat for Sadie!

Janky--Schools weren't closed here, but many had Veterans come in for various activities. Many schools have a lunch and a program to honor Veterans that's great to see reported on TV news. There's a program here in the state trying to record the stories of the Vets' experiences before that history is lost forever. People can send in tape recordings or transcripts of conversations, and the group actively seeks out Vets to interview. So much is being lost as these people age and die. I was watching a documentary on a Holocaust War Crimes Trial the other day, saw the recordings of the testimony of the survivors, and realized how few people are left now that can tell that story as a first hand witness. How anyone can watch/listen to/read any of that testimony and think the Holocaust didn't happen is beyond me.

Chi--I don't decorate at home, too much work for just me, but I am going to decorate at the office. I have some of my Grandmother's decorations from when she was living in a nursing home that will be just right for my office!

Cammy Cat--That pumpkin cider cocktail looks interesting. Not anything I would want to drink, so over the pumpkin in everything already!

Goldie-- I wouldn't drink that bean cocktail either, I doubt anyone really would, but I thought it was fun to post! Don't blame you for doing as much as you can as long as you can! It must be amazing to see that bobcat at the cabin! Big kitty knows where to find a free meal and comfy place to rest! Glad your internet is back.

    Hi all, I’m here!

I was traveling, then hungover, then had the MDA boot walk to end cancer event, then scans yesterday. Results this morning were stable and I’ll be celebrating with a cocktail tomorrow 😀🍹🎉

Sadly though, I must share that muddlingthrough passed away yesterday, reported by her son on another thread, I recall she posted here on occasion too, I think.

I miss muddling—even though her time with us was brief, she had a terrific sense of humor.

Cami, I have help decorating—my housekeeper's ceilings in her house are sort of low, so she goes all out on our tree. We have to anchor it to the wall with guy wires, lest the kitties tip it over: Heidi, especially, likes to jump into the tree and peek out between the ornaments. She's 12 lbs. now, but that doesn't seem to deter her. Happy likes to bat at and “capture" ornaments, so we have only the unbreakable kinds (especially cloth) on the bottom branches. The Hanukkah decorations aren't much—each year I dream of stringing blue & white lights on the front of the house and the second floor roof to make a giant dreidel, but then I calculate the cost & injury potential and think better of it.

Bitter cold today—had to drag out the shearling coat (glad I moved the buttons last night), hat & (big clunky) mittens. None of my gloves are warm enough for temps in the teens, so I may shop for some. Even put orthotics in the UGGs I hated wearing last year because my feet flopped around in them, but with the orthotics they fit perfectly and I can walk normally. But I really detest walking on icy sidewalks, especially crossing the alley and then along walks where nobody shoveled. I have to take mincing, waddling baby steps to keep from falling—and that does nasty things to muscles I forgot I had till now.

DOTD? Cora Italian Specialties never called back to tell me when they're coming to pick up my machine to fix—bet they forgot. So I'm making do with the ROK manual (and Nespresso Pixie) and the Aeroccino frothier. It seems to like Darigold lo-carb 2%, which has the same carbs as Califia Unsweetened Oat and Pacific Barista Almond—but the latter has added sugars and the former lacks sufficient fat & protein to be truly keto-friendly

Oh my, so sad to hear about Mud. I hope her passing was peaceful for her. My gosh, when she was hear, I know she talked about going on hospice, but did not sound bad. Wish we could have gotten to know her better.

Baby Girl, thank you for letting us know about Mud. And so happy to hear you are still doing well. Sorry about the hangover!

Nothing new or exciting here to report. I did forget to tell about an incident I had the other day. Well, you know I have that old west town front as the back wall of my yard. Well on the back side we have 2x4, leaned up and nailed (at an angle) to help support it. It's quite large and we get some good winds in the spring. Well I was back there, checking one of my traps and walking back, the sun was straight in my eyes, so I had my head down and walked right into one of the 2x4's with my forhead. OUCH! It's still hurts!

So sorry to hear about Muddling. I do hope her passing was peaceful and the family can grieve her loss with the comfort of knowing that. I went to the funeral for my friend that died from pancreatic cancer yesterday. Beautiful solos and heartfelt comments from family. The actual sermon was a bit odd and had nothing to do with the deceased. Made me think I need to start making some plans for the very future possibility of a funeral.

Goldie, sorry about your head. I am still nursing my knee from a quick “sit down” in the mountains. The trail was rocky and my lead leg slipped. The knee on the other leg bent behind me and hyper-flexed. Feelsfine most of the time. It does stiffen up if I sit for too long.

Cold front went through here with rain and wind yesterday. Chilly today, but will warm up to the 60s next week. Today is a cooking day. Tomorrow is a potluck luncheon then cards. Friday I meet with the Oncologist. I am thinking some peripheral neuropathy is going on in my feet. Still want to discuss a break from chemo in 2020.

    Take care!

    Mornin ladies,

Lori next time I lose a post u know I will try that. aannd u banged ur head on a 2x4 that u knew was there. Sounds reasonable, but I do hope it heals quickly, that can hurt. Lori u have to at least put up a tree if nothing else or it will just be winter. Or lights around some windows.

Illi I thought u were away, enjoying a little drink or 2, good for u except for the hangover part but all good things must come to an end. Especially with a hangover.

Yea Kim the drink didn't sound that great, but today the one is actually pretty. U too Kim at least put up a little tree for u and Sadie. My blood boiled when u said how some people don't believe the holocaust wasn't real. They have to be super young, but to actually think they know that.

ob an I were up last nite with a customer their furnace went off, they called in an emergency and their house was 74, Jeez I talked them into waiting til this morning 74 is like a heat wave in this house at night.

    Have a good day,

    Mornin ladies,

    Kinda quiet in here.

Jazzy u know me well, that drink sounds and looks great. I wish I like to drink so many drinks to chose from, I' have a better chance of having sex on anything if I did or at least people around me. did.

JC sorry about the funeral u had to attend. Usually that cancer goes very quickly and just sad.I've already told my girls exactly what I want Very simple Since I won't be there they'll probably do what they want anyway. But I have it figured so they don't have to spend anything, hahaha I'll still be in control.

Lori how is ur hea this morning, hope it's OK.

We still have our snow an it's pretty chilly but next week it might hit 50 which is more normal. I don't get where they get normal from anymore, every year is always so different. But so far I'm hurting more than usual so I think it's a combination of dark a lot and weather. Once in a while I could forget to take some pain meds. Now I count the hours. But I don't go over the amount so that's OK.

My phone woke me up this morning again ut she was nice about it so I did my work right away.My letters on here are all starting to skip so I have to go back constantly. If I tell Dan he'll start and he gets just to complicated about a new puter again he loves them.

I ordered my own groceries yesterday but they won't take a gift card. So I called Dan and used the company card. I hate that cuz we''ll get into a big thing about him taking my money . Usually Jodie does it and she takes my money LOL It's his oldest boy's BD Monday and I bought him a cute <Ithink> sweat shirt outfit and I already got their Christmas presents so that's done And I got a few other things for others so I'm getting there. A lot less this yr. And a lot of jewelry and scarves too. Joey is my main gifts and so far I got him 3 pullovers and 1 flannel, that's the style around here now My girls nothing hahaha and me about 10 things and I've never done that. Oh well.

Oh the Drs. don't want to do the operation on Leslie for her skin growing into her bones. They said it's a tough one and the skin is now to attached within her bones. Whatever that means but they can still do the one with her upper breast for that tangled web, IDK she's still a mess. That's all from radiation.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Everything going blooey here today: boiler has been "kettling," my plumber doesn't do HVAC, the water heater is leaking, the HVAC repair service that did the water healer and handles boilers has no available boiler techs, and the last service I used that installed my boiler (at least 15 yrs ago) is closed for the day and can't call me back till tomorrow morning. The only time I can get my hair (lots of dark gray roots, keratin wearing off) done before the end of the Bar Show run in early Dec. is tomorrow (rehearsals, doctor appts., trip to London, performances) is tomorrow...morning. Took nearly 20 min. for my voice teacher & I to connect online via FBMessenger Chat, Skype or FaceTime. and it was a miracle we did.

Then this morning I got an e-mail notice from FB that there was an unauthorized login and password change request AGAIN--4th time in 5 days. And the last time I untangled this and changed my password, I didn't choose one I could remember--instead I had Safari generate a "strong" one. Yet that one got hacked too. My social media consultant suggests that someone hacked my cell # so they could retrieve the two-factor security code. But the notices I got containing the security codes were e-mailed (to both my mail accounts). I'd change the "trusted" AT&T cell number to my secondary "spare" phone (on the Sprint acct. I got for Gordy back in the day) but somehow it gets calls intended for my AT&T phone, but not vice versa. I would change the Sprint settings...except the primary "account holder" is Gordy, all codes will be sent to him, and he's hardly ever available due to his work schedule.

Then I've been having keyboard problems on this MacBookPro--random key repeats, plus my eyesight causing me to hit adjacent keys with the edges of my (not-very-long) nails, so typing is frustrating, taking me extra time. (The eyesight thing is caused by my having to squint or look through only my L eye--don't ask me why I'm having focus problems using both eyes, since my eyes test normal and my ophthalmologist found nothing out of the ordinary).

Finally, to add insult to injury, my computer had a sudden "kernel panic," had to be restarted, wouldn't recognize my new admin password. Had to go back to the original. And now my internet is slooooowwww...

I have a bottle of champagne (actually, Mumm Napa) in the fridge. Gonna console myself with a glass of it.

Cami, hugs to your Leslie--she's gone through so much...

Mumm Napa 2012 DVX. And yes, it's a full flute. I need it.

Slow internet solved--whenever my computer restarts, it chooses my old network (the TimeCapsule bridged to the eero mesh). Brought up the eero network, and it's fast again. Getting used to the boiler noises....

I'm poopin in cuz I'm awake fully right now, I just took some Xanax so we'll see.

Lori I was asking about ur head, I thought u hit it somehow.

Sandy a whole bottle of any king of wine is what u should have had. What a screwy day. Puters I know nothing about as u all know But FB hacking WTF. And more than once??? I'd go crazy I really don't understand why FB gets hacked. What can anyone learn from that about anything private. I mean no one says anything more than everyday stuff or a joke or some political stuff <tho not much> so where does it lead them from FB. They have to have some kind of pay off and I can't figure what it is. And even on my email nothing personal goes on there. When I order things I use gift cards all the time so someone has to go out and buy one for me but nothing personal goes on anything---well my address does <bad enough> but I use my work phone. So I try to keep it low keel. Now for ur heat problems to bad u live far from me. My guys would have been there in no time...they do boilers, convert to HVAC or not. They are licensed in this state for electrical, HVAC and plumbing. If u look them up in yelp they're in the top 3 for everything including the wonderful lady that answers the phone. <that's me> We just work the western suburbs, or I would have had the 2 best men at ur house early---they actually do those things for me.We used to go to Chicago a while ago when the business was starting, but now it's just way to busy to leave our area. And I actually looked at our calendar to see if we had some open time and I could get someone out to you, but we are tied up even Saturday. Or I'd get someone to help you. Sorry.

Xanax is just starting to kick in so my legs go up now.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Sorry to be offline for a bit, had a couple of early ayems and a couple of days without internet connection. All is back on track now, though. Sadie has been busy being a foot and bed warmer as the arctic temps have moved in. Both of us are looking foreward to a sleep in tomorrow ayem!

Illi--Glad to hear from you. Sorry to hear about Muddling passing. Thanks for letting us know.

Chi--having good, warm boots are important this time of year. And I do the shuffley baby steps thing on ice, too! Better that than falling, but the legs sure do complain after!

Goldie--OUCH, indeed! That must have left a mark! And the perfect DOTD to go with it!

Cammy Cat--poor starving kitty! I am going to put up a little tree in the office at work this year, it's the little tree that my grandmother used to put up when she lived in a nursing home. I find it hard to believe that some people don't think the holocaust actually happened, too, but they are out there. Makes me wonder if we are doomed to repeat that history. The customer's house was at 74 degrees? And it was an emergency?I don't think so, I don't get my house that warm all winter and am just fine!Emergency is when the pipes are in danger of freezing!

Librarian--I've been to some funerals where the officiant's talk didn't seem to fit the circumstances, it makes for an odd feeling. Hope your knee heals up quickly, that sounds very painful!

    Jazzy--that drink even looks COLD!

Cammy Cat--that poor kitty on LSD! I'm with you, there is no normal anymore. But that's ok, we still know how to cope, right? It's funny how some places will take gift cards and some won't. Poor Leslie. Radiation is supposed to be a cake walk and is just a horror show for some people. Love the Pink Silk Panties!

    Morning, Misty!

Chi--Oh my goodness you are having a really horrible time with tech! What a pain in the anatomy that must be for you. I'd need a glass of bubbly, too!

Cammy Cat--I wonderedwhat the payoff is for hacking Fb accounts, too, until one of my aunts got hacked. The hacker used her account to message me with some story about winning 10s of thousands of dollars after buying a ticket or some such thing. Since I knew Auntie would have been all over the phones if she won that much money I knew the message wasn't from her right off. Especially when the person sending the message didn't respond to my return message about when she (Auntie) was getting out of the hospital where she just had her appendix taken out!

Cami ok, not heat, you were asking about my head! It still hurts, but getting better. We too have our will and end of life all set up. No service, creamated and everyone get's ashes! If they want to hold a memorial, that's up to them, we will be gone. I don't like open caskets, altho there won't be one anyways, but I just would not want people staring at my dead body. Nor do I go up to an open casket of someone else. I just can't. Poor Leslie indeed. Skin growing into bones?

NM, can you explain that better? Skin growing into bones and tangled web from rads?

Oh my Sandy, you sure got lots going on. Enjoy that full flute! Hope everything gets fixed for you.

Cami, I did figure it out, head yes. I ran into a 2x4! So sweet of you to offer help to Sandy, but out of your hands. It's the thought that counts.

NM, I see you had internet issues as well. Glad you are back up and running as well. As for the Holocaust, my x FIL was in the military and helped to liberate many of them. He had actual picutes of piles and piles of dead bodies. And one the ones he liberated, actually lived in MI and owned a fur store and got in contact with him and they became good frieds. Both are deceased now, but it is very very true and sad.
