PARTY TIME THIS WEEKEND
0 -
Hi ladies- hope everyone survived Halloween. I can see some fans and then not here, but get that too. I have to be in the mood for it, and also have the time to be home to meet them as they start coming before dark. About once every five years I hand out candy, and did so in 2017 so I think I am good for a few more years.
Instead, I went SHOPPING at Chico's. Finally getting around to getting my summer stuff put away with people out of my house and found I needed a few winter things. Found a couple great things on sale and came away with four things in total for a good deal. No one in the store, I had the sales people all to myself. I tend to stay out of the stores in a bigger way now until the new year, although I still will hit a few to get some things I need. I don't do much for Christmas exchanges anymore and told a few friends I was opting out this year with too much going on this fall. Most everyone is okay with it, as we all have TMS (too much stuff).
The sister's car should be getting picked up by later today, no later than tomorrow morning. Got a couple more things to deal with to finish up the back end of the stuff left behind to deal with over the weekend. It's November now, and I am focused on getting ready for my next eye surgery in a few more weeks.
My client site gets pretty crazy for Halloween and a lot of fun costumes, and a contest that I went to watch yesterday. I did not dress up, only wore orange and black as the extent of my festivities. I was thinking it was probably the most fun folks will have as it's a pressure cooker there and lots of end of the year deadlines.
I did get a text from my sister yesterday and her partner is going to a nursing home. So my guess is that she is at the end with her illness and all that remains. I let some family and friends know and people are sending cards and flowers. Praying for a peaceful transition. When I said goodbye to her in the hospital last weekend, I knew it would likely be the last time I saw her.
Hope everyone has a good start to November. Turkey time coming up next friends, gobble, gobble!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Sorry to miss yesterday ayem, the big winds took the power off a few minutes after I got up yesterday. Lots of road closures due to downed trees, Ferry runs cancelled due to high seas and wind, schools starting late due to power outages, all in all a wild and woolly day for the wind!Wound up getting ready for the seminar by flashlight. Power was out most of the day, came back on shortly before I got home according to the text update. Sadie didn't seem at all phased by the whole thing. Very good seminar, got lots to take back to work.
Goldie--Peculiar Skull Brewer, here! LOL!!!
Jazzy--Halloween was a lot of fun at work. I do love this holiday. Glad you are getting your money back, sorry to hear about the back end hassles over getting the car back. Still praying for your SIL.
Illi--Wow, what a view!
Chi--oh my, you have had some Trick or Treat experiences! One for the baby mamma?Really?
Librarian--I hope you got a good nap during chemo. Good for you for finding the charm necklace, it sounds wonderful. Glad the big limb only brought a scare and noise and didn't do any damage.
Cammy Cat--Halloween seems to be getting more controversial as a holiday over time. It can be hard for the pets in a house to have all that ruckus going on. I'm sure you do a good job with not too many mistakes, and only fixable ones. Otherwise Dad wouldn't keep you on!
Ooh, Cinnamon in a drink!Very nice!
Jazzy--I hear you about staying out of stores this time of year. I'm planning to do all my Christmas shopping either on line or at a local Christmas fair where it's all local vendors, in one place, and not crowded. I really do not like Christmas Shopping! So sorry to hear about your SIL going to a nursing home. I suspect you are correct that things aren't getting better. I pray she is comfortable and your sister is supported. I'm looking forward to gobble gobble day, I love Turkey dinners!

Cami, no middle name used for Joseph! He's that good! Cuz we all know what it means when the middle name is used. Did you make it for your tests yet? I wonder if it bothers Dan's kids that they can't go trick our treating? Yes, it's been brutially cold here, but just during the night and in the mornings. Got to 70 yesterday, 15 this morning, but should get close to 70 again today.
Jazzy, praying for a peaceful transition for your SIL as well. Will your sister stay in CA if she passes?
NM, those winds sound brutal! We don't have big trees around where I live, just som Junipers, so worries about flying branches. Glad you got lots out of the seminar. Pass the Turkey sounds yummy, altho I've never had bourbon!
JCS, how'd that chemo treatment go?
Baby Girl, you are always on the move, where is the next adventure? And how is your weather in TX?
Nice weather later today, so I'm hoping to get back out in the garden. I still have lots to do.

Not as cold today as predicted--but since I was running late and needed to run some errands in Lincoln Park afterward, I drove down to the Loop for rehearsal. Big mistake. The garage that last year was $37 for all day on a weekend? It's now "only" $7 for the first 20 minutes (nothing worth running an errand for is less than 10 min. away) but $56 for any longer than 2 hrs.! Guess I'm gonna have to get a Spot Hero account.
Rehearsal was fun, at least the Beatles parody medley I'm in (just singing backup). In the afternoon was the "Proud Mary" parody--we were told anyone could sing or dance in it--dancing, if we learned the choreography. In years past, it wasn't too complex, but I was fat & out of shape and they needed me singing in the offstage trios because the dancers couldn't all sing & dance at the same time. This time? Piece of cake. Unfortunately, this year the dance captain (a former ballet dancer), not the director, choreographed it. The number began with running onstage in rhythm, then spinning and doing the "pony." Nope--not with knee implants, at least according to my orthopedic surgeon. So I get to sing again, onstage this time on the risers, as the dancers won't be singing.
DOTD was, with Copper River sockeye salmon, a Williams Selyem 2015 Central Coast Pinot Noir. (Their Sonoma wines are what they're known for, but the grapes for this came from Sideways country).

.Mornin' ladies,
Oh this time thing has got me all screwed up, after all these yrs. u'd think I'd be used to it.
Jazzy I think of ur sister and it's so sad. I pray too for them. And I know it's hard for u too. I'm so sorry. I do remember the end of the year for u and ur work, there's always a big deadline u have to make so I know u have that going on, plus a lot of medical stuff.
Lori those olden days when I was born <an Italian thing> usually girls didn't get middle names but the boys did. They were the important ones and everybody was named after a grandparent, which in a lot of cases was cruel. My mom changed some letters around in mine cuz she didn't really like her mom's name...and I always thanked her for that plus she broke the system in our family. But all the girls would just say their middle name was Maria but it wasn't, it was nothing LOL Once we moved to the suburbs all the girls had a middle names so we just pretended, don't know why really. It's funny to me that now the professionals will tell parents u can't talk like that to ur kids, it's considered verbal abuse, but in my old neighborhood when windows were open all u could hear was I'll break ur legs or neck or I'll throw u out the window, no one ever got hurt but the fear was there.OK I'm blabbering.
All of our snow has melted as fast as it came. but like sandy said the winds were bad on TV they showed trees down and limbs down, I don't think it was that bad here tho.
My DD is supposed to come today for my shower and it's overdue that's for sure. One of the guys came over last nite just for a few minutes I forgot to charge my phone, good thing we all live close to each other. The reason they do keep me is cuz the the token disabled and old person...so they have 2 in 1and no problems. Anyway that's how I think of it.
I hope Sunday is a great day for everyone, feeling good and and ejoying what u want to do.

Aloha Ladies!😘
DH & I did our part at DD's house. Grandson was a Star Wars Trooper. Some special kind I did not follow.
Friday I visited the GYN. Thanks to learning more about what to look for, I was able to "intelligently" explain what I have observed. Where the pain is. Not from wearing underwire. I usually wear a sports bra or a camisole with a shelf. A change in size & where. A change in nipples relevant to one another in latitude. I look in the mirror for changes & it is easier to remember 'where'. I recently put my srms straight up in the air & noticed that the 'side in question' barely moved. The other went up & down. Dense breasts make some things more difficult, but small breasts make some easier. Took a while to appreciate small breasts, but I did arrive. A lump was felt, but an uninteresting dx is expected. I have an appointment with a breast surgeon. I'm not worried. From being here, I know I don't need to worry just because a surgeon is going to check me.
The 'young man' with cancer from his 1st colonoscopy....they are checking his liver.
I HATE cancer & I am not a big hater. I care about so many ladies here & I pray for your needs. I worry when I don't see someone here & I'm afraid to ask.
Hugs, prayers, kisses on the cheeks, & for the kitties & puppies ❤️😘

I reread my prior post. In the past DD has spent a week in ICU. She was able to avoid it this time. She usually checks her sugars 8-12(?) times a day. Insurance says that's too many & we won't pay for all those test strips.

Happy Sunday - dark, dreary and damp here in Alberta. I have been reading posts off and on, but not chatting this week. I seem to be responding to the weather and it has made me too tired to do much. I had a bunch of bloodwork done and all is good, so I am guessing my overall fatigue is from the meds and weather - hoping for a quick turnaround!
I miss 'chatting' with you all and will be back sometime this week I am sure. Wishing everybody a great week... Cheers!

Oh, Nancy, I hate health insurance companies--how dare those millennial bean-counters in suits (my late mom & grandma would have called them by the Yiddish term "pishikers," loosely translated as "littlle diaper-wetters") overrule conventional medical wisdom about the need to consistently monitor a diabetic's blood sugar via noninvasive urine testing? Are they gonna cover the far more expensive skin-piercing arm-worn sensor devices? Or is the bottom line...the bottom line: that some "collateral damage" is acceptable to hold down costs? To me, three of the dirtiest words in the English language are "cost-benefit analysis:" the bastard stepchild of "greed is good."
Stayed in today--gut problems. To say more than that is TMI, but I'm taking a couple of days off from both the iron pills and the stuff necessary to counter their unwelcome side effect. So no DOTD, after my morning coffee, but water.

Frightening Skull Scalwag here - before its too late to get away with Halloween names. I am sorry to read about all of the weather being cold and snowing already. I have lived in FL since 1975 and have pretty much forgotten what living in the cold is like. Florida right now is the perfect weather - the humidity is down, and we are in the 80's and cool in the 60's at night. I hope this lasts awhile. I have been reading all just can't remember details to answer. Jack-Bear who lived here in West Central Fl know our short season of perfect days and nights, I think I hear Hawaii is beautiful weather all the time.

ChiSandy.
Thanks. She has the insulin pump. She doesn't have a continuous glucose moniter. She sticks her fingers. The CGM has a sticky pad that's about 4" x 6" & the part that's inserted into the body is in the middle. She sweats that type of patch off. She does an exercise program thst she does every morning. She has a rowing machine, Nordic track elliptical, weights,& a couple of other things that I don't know what they are. Every day. She works hard to keep her sugars under control. She counts her carbs and calculates her insulin. She can crash (low blood sugars) at almost any time. Her sugar was in the 60's when she had her 1st grand mal seizure. She checks her sugar to make sure she's not too low. I know those test strips are expensive, but I think they are cheaper than glucogone (s), an ambulance ride, & a week in the ICU.
She knows the cookie recipe. I will try to get it & post it before Thanksgiving. I must make a contribution to the group. White wine with turkey?
NancyB ♥️🐾🎶🙏0 -
Mistyeyes, I love the weather in Hawai'i. Not as much humidity. Lovely breezes. Rain is not a monsoon with lighting. We hardly ever have a thunder storms.0
-
Nancy, we usually have two wines on our Thanksgiving table: a Pinot Noir for red (and dark meat) fans, and either a Kabinett Riesling or un-oaked Chardonnay for the white wine/white meat eaters. Dunno what'll happen this year, as we'll be in London, seeing a play that night.
Felt a bit better and had some "faux-phô:" vegan broth, shirataki noodles, bean sprouts, Thai basil leaves and some roast beef from the deli. Probably gonna have a green tea chaser.

ChiSandy,
That sounds yummy. I should make some green tea. We had a great afternoon and evening yesterday. We had never been to The Polynesian Cultural Center before. It is a huge tourist spot. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We had a buffet that included kim chee, poi, Okinawan Sweet Potatoes (purple),& haupia.
Thanks for the wine suggestions. I prefer a red & my daughter a white (1 glass & it is counted). I also like dark meat & (duh) hadn't thought of something not white because it is turkey. I think my last glass of wine was Christmas. We don't spend a lot of time planning wine. You guessed. My DD makes a wonderful turkey. Her 1st Thanksgiving dinner included about 30 sailors! She always has invited people away from their families for dinner.I hope to make some turkey soup with the bones.

Good Morning, Loungettes! Sorry for not pooping in yesterday, had to go in to work to cover for a nurse who decided that she wasn't going to come to work because her power was still out. No one else could cover, so I went in. I mean, really, not coming to work because you don't have electricity? Not a good reason to not come to work, not when it's well known that anyone who needs to can come in early and shower, and can even get uniforms washed if needed, not to mention getting hot meals for $3 and unlimited hot coffee and cold drinks at no cost. There's at least one day every weekend that this nurse is schedule that she's called out for one reason or another. The rumor is she is looking for another job, personally I hope she finds one soon. Anyway, I think I did pretty well for not doing that kind of workregularly for quite some time, but I had a lot of help from the other staff working, they were looking out for me! Sadie was not impressed, but she forgave me when I got home and made her a special treat for din-dins.
Goldie--The winds were brutal, some places still don't have power back. One of the local hotels is renting rooms at a very steep discount for people still without power, and has dedicated a few room for families to come and shower for something like $5.Housekeeping goes in after every family and cleans and replaces all the towels. Lots of places are staying open overnight so people can have someplace warm to stay, and lots of businesses giving away hot drinks. It's amazing how people pull together.
Chi--Wow, that is an amazing amount of money to pay for parking! Glad you are getting to sing in the show.
Cammy Cat--I really do not like this whole time change thing either. Is there really any good reason to do it anymore? I mean, we do have electric lights now and aren't totally dependent on the sun to see things anymore! I hear we may get some snow later this week, not expected to amount to anything. I suppose it's time to think about getting the snow tires on the Jeep. Nice Drink!
Bear--being able to speak the language is a big help sometimes. Glad you aren't worried. Don't you love how insurance companies can decide what we need or don't need somuch better than our doctors and ourselves? SMH.
Morning, Janky--hope you feel more energetic soon!
Chi--sorry to hear about the GI problems, nothing like competing medications to make life miserable!
Morning, Misty!

Happy Monday! Woke up yesterday to no heat on the main floor. The repairman said a part is needed. Not terribly uncomfortable in the housewith sweaters and blankets. The weather is actually supposed to be very nice this week. We are leaving this morning for the mountains so the cats will just have to deal with it until we get back. My youngest got back from his Philly trip. Enjoyed the city and seeing sights, but said it was very trashy. Is it already time to start worrying about Thanksgiving? My small group will be even smaller this year. My oldest is taking his wife to Paris for her 40th birthday and will be gone over the holiday. Maybe we will have turkey burgers! I will worry later. Today I am going to have fun and not think about chores or responsibilities. Should have some pictures to share. Take care all!

Mornin ladies,
Janky it's good to see u, yep missed you.
Oh Jack that's rough for ur DD, I know my oldest has Diabetis <sp> one and insurance companies always has to much to say about everything she does.Oh let's face it they have to much to say about everything. Who gives these people all this power to judge. Oh that's almost word for word a line in the movie Verdict with Paul Newman. I don't know where that came from, I haven't seen or thought about that movie in years. Anyway it's scary but she just shoots that needle in like nothing. It makes me coil. Jack I forgot u live in Hawaii and I remember people always saying the weather is absolutely perfect there all year long. But I know I would miss thunderstorms and rains, not horrible ones just the rolling thunder ones and the sound of rain. I think I would miss snow only during December for Christmas time.
Kim u will always fill in anytime for someone. I'm sure after all this time Sadie is used to u. U said this person does a lot of this stuff. That's crumby putting time on ur coworkers so not right.
Sandy I probably asked u this before and I just don't remember, if u would share what kind of law u practiced, u have so many interests it's hard to figure.
Oh I feel so tired this morning and a little floopy. Maybe the change of everything.
Have a good Monday.

Holy cow Sandy, that's some expensive parking! Sorry you weren't able to join in the dancing, best to keep that knee in shape.
Camille Maria! You are never blabbering, we love your stories. Hope you got your shower, but you never answered me about your tests. See....I should be going with you!
Nance, such a sweet post, kisses back. That's rediculous that your DD's insurance won't pay for so many strips for her, they can't be that expensive! So sad, the way our insurances treat us.
Good to see you Janky, it is quite amazing how weather can affect us. I lived in Michigan for 40 years, where we would have like 4 months of cloudy weather. Never bothered me then. But now, living in AZ and it's sunny 95% of the year, when we get a cloudy day, I don't feel like doing anything. The cold is fine as again, it's usually sunny.
Sandy, too funny about the pishikers! Sorry about your tummy problems, hoping they will resolve with laying off some of the other meds.
NM wow, how nice of those places to help those that are without power. Theres that sweet, caring and always willing to step up to the plate, NM that we love and adore. As for the nurse looking for a job, I know a place she would fit in perfectly.....hospice! I always thought the time change had something to do with kids catching the morning bus. I don't know, I could be WAAAAAAY off on that one. No time change for us. Quite the DOTD, wouldl love to try that...but only if someone else made it!
JCS, I usually have my step daughter and her hubby for TG dinner, but they have moved to Reno and I'm so happy I don't have to do it. I love turkey, but my DH doesn't. A neighbor has invited several neighbors over for dinner. Enjoy your mountain time.

Morning! Snowy, chilly and icy roads - great day to stay warm inside. I am glad to be done with Thanksgiving here in Canada, not sure if I enjoy all the prep anymore - even though we were at our son's and they did most of it - just found it all exhausting (sheesh, lately everything is exhasting)
NM - you are such a devoted person to everything you take on - hats off to you! And Sadie for being so adaptable, extra tickle today!
Chi - ouch, that is pricey parking for sure! Hoping your tummy issues resolve sooner than later, in the meantime enjoy the green tea!
cami - I love your ramblings - keep them coming! I lose posts often too, hitting the wrong key does that, I just don't know which is the wrong one and keep those kitties coming...
goldie - where are you in AZ? We are hoping to get that way, somewhere near Mesa I think, your weather is consistently warm I think?
JCS - Enjoy the mountains, and just getting away.
Misty - One of these days we may be near you, I forget where Homassa is relative to Tampa - Sarasota - Frostproof?
Jack - Nice to have you here, I am sure Hawaii is an awesome place to live too!
Jazzy - Enjoy your new clothes, shopping generally acts like a great 'pick me up'! Wishing you DS and SIL all the best.
Shout out to Mema, Illi, and all the other 'tipplers' here. Cheers!

Aloha Loungettes,
You are all too familiar with how challenging dealing with insurance companies. I was diagnosed as Type II. It is very different from Type I. My insurance will pay for supplies for a particular brand. Some glucometers will 'talk' to your computer so that you don't have to enter all the dates & times & numbers into a spreadsheet to take to your Endocrinologist. He is a Specialist. Only 10-20% of Diabetic Patients are Type I. I think you get the idea how this works. Oh, yea, the Dr probably wants you to use a certain brand of supplies.

Janky, I am about 4 hours from Mesa. My weather is NOT always nice. We are in the mountains at 6000'. We had a 0 degree F, or -18 degrees C., temp the other morning, and we do get snow, so we have all 4 seasons. Spring here is windy, as opposed to rainy. So sorry you find so many things exhausting. Do you think it's the Ibrance?
0 -
Goldie,
I remember 4 seasons! I miss them. I haven't paid attention to geography enough to know that you could have seasons in AZ. I knew NM had parts that are cool in the Winter.
A Hot Toddy or warm mulled cider sounds perfect. Or Hot Chocolate with something peppermint in it. Schnapps? I just looked & found Peppermint Vodka. And Chocolate Mint Whiskey. And
crème de menthe and crème de cacao. I feel an expi-mint coming on🎶
NancyB0 -
Goldie - I am sure it is the Ibrance, plus I had low blood presssure for about a month, so that didn't help either

Cami, I was in general practice, doing primarily estates & trusts (drafting wills, etc.), probate, real estate and a little traffic, plus city administrative hearing defense. When I moved here I was an IL Asst. Atty. Gen.--first in the Welfare Litigation Division, recouping Medicaid overpayments from providers, dealing with benefits issues for citizen recipients, and some appeals. About 50-50 state & Federal. Also worked on part of a Supreme Ct. brief that we won (won't mention the case or issue because that would be political & against BCO rules), but I wasn't happy about it. I thought I'd like the Medicaid recoupment stuff because it would be avenging fraud, but it increasingly became apparent that the rules & regs were arbitrary & capricious; for every quack or crook we caught there would be ten honest doctors caught up in regs that were impossible to comply with and an audit system that was unfair and bore no resemblence to reality. It felt increasingly like my job was to protect the public fisc from the public, and I was on the wrong moral side of everything. Besides, we never got to actually try cases---we did motions & appeals but the trials went to politically-connected big Loop law firms.
So I transferred to the Court of Claims Division, which I really liked (even though it was looked down upon by the more prestigious divisions). I got to defend all kinds of cases against the state: personal injury, property damage, wrongful death, lapsed appropriations, etc. I got to try cases in front of the Court commissioners--and if we won, I even got to write their opinions! On primary & election days, we were commissioned as temporary Asst. State's Attys. assigned to polling places in various city & suburban wards to prevent election law violations and go to bat for voters unfairly prevented from voting, as well as make sure vote counts were kosher after the polls closed. In Welfare Lit, success was measured by how much $ we saved the state; but our division chief in Ct. of Claims said that as AAGs we were in effect prosecutors--whose duty is not to win cases but to see that justice is done; and if justice meant settling generously or even agreeing to the full amount claimed, we were to go for it. Unfortunately, all good things came to an end: a new A.G. was elected (who did not like the political satirical songs I wrote that his predecessor had me sing at the annual Christmas parties), and who hired his own Division Chiefs--all of us rank & file making >$25K/yr, except those friendly with the new regime were fired. (No, that wasn't illegal, because we were considered "policymaking" employees and not civil service. Came home that day to find out Bob had made partner at the medical practice where he worked; when we did the math we realized that because I wouldn't be spending money on parking, transit, pantyhose (practically disposable) and lunches I would be netting more on unemployment compensation. I went on Bob's insurance too. Shortly after that we decided we could finally afford to start a family.
After Gordy was old enough for preschool, for awhile I was in sole practice, sharing office space with the lead guitarist in our neighborhood Top 40 cover band (in which I played bass & shared lead vocals). The one type of case I refused to take was domestic relations (divorce & post-divorce). That was 75% of my practice in Bellevue, a Seattle suburb where I practiced while Bob was in med school. It's utterly emotionally draining, and I was often on call 24/7 for restraining orders & such.
No alcohol tonight. Able to eat normal food again tonight (made pseudo-Cantonese stir fry), but don't want to test the limits of my tummy too much. Will go back on iron (and a milder remedy) tomorrow.
