Nice cabana. Sleepless night... not nearly enough wine at wine class. I'll be taking a nap in a banana hammack.

NM - you are soooo right about the shopping process! I do have an answer for your friend, though. The one who gets the best bargain! I'm always shopping for bargains of things we need or want. The weird thing is, my husband enjoys shopping with me. I think the stress of looking after me this past 6 weeks is taking a big toll on him (not to mention his extremely bad allergies).

I haven't been sleeping well the past few nights (or days, for that matter). Every time I fall asleep I have a hot flash. And I think they are getting hotter. I'm on 1200 Gabapentin right now, not entirely convinced they are doing the job they are supposed to be doing.

So I'll have some more virtual booze and relax in the hot tub!

No time for a long response! Heading out to the Home & Garden Show. Ended up, yesterday would have been ok, didn't get as windy as they said.

Shopping - Give me a nursery, Lowes, garden center, anyday over a mall. Darrell would prefer to shop for me than myself. He loves looking at womens clothes for me!

HD, I love you and your pictures. They always bring LIFE to The HTL.

Connie, you still need to take it easy, even tho you are feeling better.

Junie, bummer bummer bummer about your friend.

Y'all have fun in the pool and I'll catch ya's later. xoxoxox Lori

NM, Kathy can talk to you about the shopping! I am a stealth shopper. I can walk into a store and stand in one spot and look around to know if they have what I am looking for. Kinda like Rambo shopping. I wish I liked it more but I don't. For all you wine lovers, we should have a Spritzer Saturday!  Here's to no wet cheesy Snookies! Salute!

PS. Love the pic too HD!! I will pass on the floatie around the neck though Yell

NM, Dee is right...I am quite the shopaholic! I figure I am keeping USPS, UPS and FEDEX in business, as I get several parcels delivered each day. So you can see,I prefer shopping online and trying on clothes at home rather than in a mall...and the bargains and choices are SO much better! And of course, you gotta have free shipping and free returns. Its funny though that I shop so much but rarely go into malls. Around Christmas I try to remember to go there just to see the decorations! I guess I could have worse vices..and DH just says every day is like Christmas...he can't complain as I use my own money....but we prob need a 10 br house now (cause DH is also a shopaholic...for groceries!).....LOL.

Connie, I had gotten up to the 1200 dose of gabapentin also...seemed to help the hot flashes, but didn't like feeling zombie-like, as it made me feel sorta weird. So I got off them last year. I think my hot flashes have lessened somewhat, maybe because I'm aware of some of what triggers it for me. Also I keep the house cool, wear cool or layered clothes, and ALWAYS carry a fan! I try not to visit certain places during the hot months, like Vegas and Hawaii. I still hate them though...not fun to sudddenly feel like you're in a 500 degree oven. But I do think mine have lessened some.

    To a Sparkling Spritzer Saturday!

Connie, Kath, if gabapentin isn't working well for you ask your docs about a small dose of effexor, that one is often used for hot flashed with good effect

NM, Do you use effexor? I asked my dr about it previously, and he mentioned that it usually comes with a 10-15 lb weight gain, which I don't need! That was disappointing... Frown so I chose not to take it.  I hope you have had a more positive experience with it, or have heard that others have not gained weight with it. If hot flashes were a man's ailment, we would prob have a cure for it already!!!

I know its not Friday, but heading over to TGIFridays for some Shock Top beer, and their yummy food! Hope everyone is having a great Saturday! Keep those Wine Spritzers coming!!!

wahine--I use gabapentin, but only because I was started on that for lymphedema nerve pain.  My med onc usually orders effexor and we talked about it.  I'm already on an SSRI (prozac) which is working well for depression, and I don't see where another drug of the same class will make any difference in the hot flashes, and I definately noticed a difference when I came off the gabapentin after the mastectomy.  My onc and I decided to go back on the gabapentin for my hot flashes.  I'm fortunate in that they only  bother me at night, make it impossible to sleep more than an hour at a time, so I take 600 mg at bedtime and get several hours sleep at night.  My med onc said that the lower dose of effexor used causes some women to gain weight the first month or two, but then it usually drops off again, and usually it's about 5 pounds.  I've been taking prozac, one of the same class of drug and at a pretty big dose and haven't had weight gain issues.  In fact, I lost weight after starting prozac--but I had been gaining weight steadily with the depression because I was sleeping and eating all the time and not doing anything else. I'm already obese and have struggled with weight issues all my life, but I would rather gain weight than not be able to sleep due to hot flashes. But, that's how I feel, and I understand the concern about weight gain.

BTW, I'm sipping a glass of my frist batch of homemade wine--a strawberry riesling.  It's actually pretty good!  It will be better in a couple months when it has a chance to age and smooth out a bit, but I'm happy with it!  And surprised how much I've got--almost 3 dozen bottles!  Now I've got to decide what to make my next batch of wine from.  I wonder if I can make wine from maple syrup?  There's going to be a bumper crop of local syrup this year due to the long season.  Hmm.. I'm going to have to go research this. . . .

NativeMainer - You make your own wine!!!?? How cool!
Maple syrup? I think you have something there, really! Might be a good breakfast wine. What's wrong with having wine first think in the morning? You could serve it with a side of bacon or maple crusted pecans...LOL!

I have a neighbor who brews his own beer...it's so tasty and perfectly strong.

I can't wait to hear more about what the wine tastes like in a few months. By then, I should have my boobs all done...except the nips!

    Good morning girls!

Had a great day in Flagstaff. Bought me a steam mop to use on my wood laminate floors. I can't wait to try it out as I am so anal when I use the mop, starting at one wall and pulling it to the next one, so I don't have streaks! No back and forth motions. Won't be today though, going to start laying tile in the green house. Won't be long and we can have a fresh salad with some of NM's wine! Very cold here this morning, mid 20's! Brrrrrrr. Maybe I'll go sit in the hot tub for a spell first with a glass of Maple Wine and a side of bacon. Speaking of bacon....my sweet Darrell has always wanted a candle that smelled like bacon. There was guy at the show that sold candles and he asked about a bacon one. The guy said he didn't have one, but could make it! So Darrell got is card! I hope he doesn't pursue it, I much prefer my house smelling of cinnamon!

Make it a good day, Lori

I've just started making wine.  Something I've long wanted to do, some friends got me a wine making kit for my birthday last month.  This batch was from a kit, but now that I've figured out how the process works and found some recipes I'm ready to start branching out.  I just realized that today is Maple Sugar Sunday here in Maine--many of the sugar shacks are open to the public, giving tours and free samples (as well as selling syrup), so I've got to get out today.  This is the only time of year I can get a leather apron (aka maple syrup taffy, made by drizzling hot maple syrup on hard packed snow).  I've just got to figure out how much syrup I need.  I found a recipe for honey wine (mead) that I think I can go by for maple syrup, I think.  BTW, I shipped several bottles of this batch to the TaTaTenders to put away for a couple of months to bring out on my recon surgery day--June 21st.  You ladies can have a drink on me while I'm under the knife and good drugs!

goldie--I'm with you on the candle scents.  I had a vanilla candle once, all the time it was burning I was hungry!  I kept looking for sweets to eat whenever I lit it, so I finally threw it away.  I've got a steam cleaner that I love, too.  It cleans more than floors, which is great!  Shoot steam at a stain or some grung, then wipe it away with a cloth.  Clean and shiny all at once!  The only drawback is it takes a while for the machine to build up enough steam to start working, but once it's up and running it goes and goes and goes. I've used it on my laminate floors, linoleum, the stove, counter tops, windows, cabinets, walls, and even steam cleaned my furniture once!

iHeartU--I hadn't thought about breakfast wine--I wonder if there could be a market for that?  I can imagine opening up a litte cafe with the house speciality being Maine Maple Breakfast:  maple syrup wine, maple bacon, Maine blueberry pancakes with Maine Maple Syrup, and  Maple Chai Tea.

ok, now I've made myself hungry, I've got to go to the buffet and get something to eat.  I wonder if the boys have made french toast today--with Maple Syrup, of course!

Lori & NM, I'm a neurotic clean person and my floors have not felt clean since DH took over that chore. I was looking at the Shark steam mops thinking they would be easier than a standard (Boma) mop on the hardwood and tile. If I don't have to scrub too hard I could take back the mopping and have happy feet again. What kind do you have? Let us know how it works out, and if it requires much upper-body strength.

I miss my hot tub! Before surgery I used it every night... now I have hot tub envy and clean floor envy.

I have tried to like wine and even champagne. I have tasted all kinds from the very expensive to the Boones Farm cheap wino wine sold in the carryout stores. Sorry, they all taste like crapola to me. I even went with my partner to a wine festival here and tried the ice and desert wines that are very sweet. Still no good, at least to me. Good luck with the maple wine NM, you can Google many people that are making it. Maybe wine from beer would be something worth trying out next :)

PS. I have  a steam cleaning tool for grout and floors, just don't shoot it around anything that has caulking...it will peel it right off.

    Good morning ladies!

We've got a Shark for our laminate floors and it works well. Doesn't take much strength to use and I've found it works pretty good. My husband hasn't used it yet (even though he keeps saying he's going to) so my floors are driving me nuts! We got the kind that flips so you can use both sides of the pad without changing it. We have about 1000 sq ft of laminate and I can get most of it done with one pad (but changing part way through would probably do a better job). Works good on the vinyl floors, too.

iHeartU, what kind of boobs did you get? I've decided not to get a nipple and probably not a tattoo (although the idea of putting a flower or cat footprint there is kind of amusing) but I am looking forward to the surgery to make the "good" one match - tentatively scheduled for May 11. Still healing but I'm seeing some progress in that department.

Anyone who has had TRAM or DIEP - did it take a very long time for the incision under the boob to heal?

Cute kitty, Connie. One of my (2) housecats slipped out yesterday for some sunshine. Who could blame him? But he came dragging in around midnight and he was nakey! Everytime he goes "out" he loses his collar and we have to sing that line, "tequila makes him clothes fall off.."

I was thinking about heart tattoos but DH (who never ventures an opinion) made a face when I mentioned it so I went for the skin grafts which are still under raps. He hasn't seen my chest since the MX in August and it doesn't look like we are getting much closer to his expectations. Nips (areolas actually) are a lot of work. I have to "water" the grafts every 4 hours for 16 days and who knows what I'll have to do after that... PS is talking about using bunyon cushions to protect the nipples for awhile. The jury's still out until I see how they heal -- they better be freakin beautiful! I love the cat paw idea!

dee--I feel the same way about beer.  Can't stand the smell or the taste of any kind of beer or ale!

Astorm-- I used to have a hot tub, too.  It died a year or so before diagnosis.  I was saving up money to replace it but that money got used up during treatment trying to keep up with the rent and electricity and dressings and antibiotics and other meds.  My steam cleaner is a Euro-Pro.  The cannister sits on the floor and rolls around, but is too heavy for use during recovery.  It has a long tube that connects to various attachments: a scrub brushy thing, a squirt into small places thingy, an upholstery head, and window squeegy and a floor cleaner thinky that works great on walls, too.  I use the steamer for deep cleaning periodically, but depend on my Swiffer Wet Jet for everyday clean up after myself and Snookie, especially in mud season.  And this may be too personal a question, but how do you "water" your nips?  I have this mental picture of a well endowed lady standing with her boobs over a sink and a watering can in one hand. . .

haha! I wish! No, I'm not well endowed.. the perky salesgirl at Victoria's Secret said I measure as an "A" a few weeks ago (I'll keep wearing my B's thank you). After the areola skin grafts my PS says they need to stay damp -- he compared it to laying sod for a lawn... the roots need to take hold. So I have these sponges stapled to my "A" cups and I have to drip saline on them about every 4 hours. Makes wearing clothes a challenge. I have to check my shirt before leaving the house -- it's like I'm nursing again.

Thanks for the info on the steamer. We have 2 teenagers, a weiner pup, an old corgi and 2 cats and they all lick the floor (well maybe not the kids) so I like to sterilize it often!

Am I too late for Sex on the Beach Sunday??!!  If so, I'll take my bucket out to the pool and hang out 'til whichever Monday we're having.

Y'all are stretching my imagination to the limits!   Wine made from Maple Syrup????  Candles that smell like bacon????   I love maple syrup on pancakes and love to smell bacon cooking...but to drink it/smell it for a looong time.....hmmmmmmm much to think about!

Good info on the steam cleaners.   I'll have to check that out.   Need something for upholstery more than floors.  Didn't know you could use them on walls...do they work on baseboards?   That's what I hate cleaning most!

Dee--fond memories of way way long ago, a little likker store would sell Boone's Farm and Annnie Green Springs to us, even though we were underage!   Pure rot gut stuff, but so exciting to be "breaking the law"!!!!

Looking forward to Monday's theme and drink of the day   Hope all have a simply mahhhhvelous Monday!!!

My Shark won't work on walls. They do say you can use it on upholstery, but I haven't tried it yet.

My husband said a cat paw tattoo would be ok but figures it wouldn't be covered by insurance. He's probably right.

By the way, my picture is my cat Copernicus. I've had her for 11 years now.

Junie--since I'm not a beer fan I've asked Pants and Jocks to mix up a keg of Sex on the Beach for you and me.  The boys will be delivering the keg to poolside in a few minutes.

Astorm--I hope when you say the sponges are stapled to your A cups that you mean stapled into a bra or to a dressing and NOT to YOU-OUCH!  Keeping them moist makes sense with that explanation.  And my Euro-Pro does clean baseboards.  About the only thing it doesn't clean is plastic and some synthetic fibers that melt at relatively low temperatures.  And it's even kind of fun!

ConnieS--a cat paw tatoo?  That would be kind of neat, but I bet insurance won't cover it.  I haven't even really starting thinking about Stage 2 yet, let alone Stage 3.  Oh, well, I still have time to think about those steps.

    Mornin gals!

Well quite busy outside yesterday, and my back is paying for it today! But did enjoy it. I got 9 tiles laid! Hoping to go out every evening and lay a few. Its the cleaning up that takes so long. The steamer is "Smart Living" and only weighs about 5 lbs. I have not used it yet, but pushed it around at the show. I have the micro fiber mop and when its wet, its hard to push and clean the floor. So I made sure that was not going to be an issue. Heats up in a matter of seconds. The guy said they sell/sold on QVC. He said it would do furniture. I have pretty close to the whole house in wood laminate, 2000 sq ft. Tile in the 2 bathrooms, foyer and laundry room. Can't wait to try it on the tile too. Dee thanks for the heads up on silicone, that is good to know,

Anyways, my daughter posted this picture on Facebook. It's the little girl she was a nanny to. She is 3. She is wearing 1-Buzz Lightyear Boot, a tutu, branding a rifle, suckin on a pasifier, cowboy hat, hanging on to her bunny and no top! I just thought it was hilarious. Hope it brings a smile to everyones face to start the week out right!

Jaybird, PLEASE check in when you can....worried about you since you go to Moscow a lot, and they had that terrible subway bombing...hope you weren't anywhere near there!!!!

NM, Not sure if junie would want to join you for the "Sex on the Beach" or not....since today the drink of the day is her fav....Miller Lite! She ALWAYS has a bucket of ML's at the HTL....

Lori..cute pic! So funny what kids will want to dress up like sometimes! Thanx for sharing.

AStorm...glad the kids aren't licking the floor....that was FUNNY! Hope your nips heal well; I am sure the results will be great! I decided on the 3D tats, and will go to Asheville to MakeupchickNC at the beginning of June. Those just take a few days to heal, important cause we will be in St.Thomas at the end of June. I remember those cute little umbrellas (like they put in drinks) that we had at the HTL for those recovering from having nips made....looks like we should drag them out again, so you can use them and enjoy sitting by the pool. Gotta shade them from the sun, and you'll be able to still "water" them! They do take care of us here, don't they!

I'll have some Miller Lites in honor of junie!

Thanks for the umbrellas LOL! Yes, the staples are actually in my skin. I need to ask more questions before I let them put me under! Copernicus is a cutie. I think the cat paws would be appropriate cuz they walk all over me. When I first heard someone had heart tattoos it reminded me of the rag dolls my mom made when we were little -- I still have mine and there is a heart sewed on her chest. Today I'm wishing I had gone that direction cuz the staples are freaking me out but we'll have to wait and see how it all turns out...

Lori, that's my kind of gal - half nekkid' and havin' fun!!!  SurprisedLaughing

I'm fine, Kathy, thanks for asking. Got back from Moscow Saturday, home all day Sunday, going back to Moscow today. I've taken the metro there, and late in the day, too, when it's been crowded. Crazy, crazy shit! I just don't 'get' suicide bombers. SO sad for those injured, those who died and for all of their families.....

I'm going to have some scotch tonight, as I need a drink! Had an extremely busy day off, moved furniture and did a ton of laundry, but both my and Avery's bedrooms are livable/sleepable! She's still adjusting from the crib (yes, at 3 1/2 she was still happily in her crib) to her Big Girl bed but I think most kids do have some sort of adjustment period. And now that Mommy has her own bedroom (and Big Girl bed!) again maybe she can get some R & R in occasionally!Wink

    Cheers! Gotta fly.....

YAY jaybird....thank you SO MUCH for letting us know you are okay! That is a bit too close for comfort, with you being there before and after the bombing....please be careful when you get back there. Although after something like that, they may have so much security there that it may be the safest place to be, now! Glad you are getting your home back to normal, and hope everything is completed now! Yeah, gotta get that good R&R in!!!! WinkCoolInnocent

We were supposed to go to Madrid (2003? or 2005? can remember) and there was a train bombing. Because we have kids and it was important that we return to them after the trip, we avoided Spain and went to Germany, Austria and Prague. Sounds safe, right? After we got home we found out that there had been a bombing while we were there at a hotel in Prague a few blocks from where we were staying, and no bombings in Spain.

    Good morning!!

We took NM's advice and Don gave me the gab last night before bed. I slept for 11 hours!!!! And I feel great now!

I'll join in on the bucket of Sex on the Beach - I'm not a beer drinker.

I'm not sure why the insurance wouldn't cover a kitty paw tattoo if they'll cover a 3d tattoo. But of course they won't. :)

Don and I are getting a hankering to go on another cruise but I don't want to go until my noob is healed and my boob is the same size so I guess we'll have to wait until later in the year. For once in my life I'm actually looking forward to going bathing suit shopping!
