how about drinking?

One of my favorite places I first went with my mom and sister and later when I got married we went there on our honeymoon. Anyway, it is a tiny island in the Caribeean which had a floating bar in the ocean. It was called the Cocunut bar and you had to swim out to it and it was easy to fall off the stools into the ocean! But there was something so wonderful about floating around drinking all those very strong run drinks with fresh exotic fruit juices..... sigh. I heard several years ago they suffered a terribly hurricaine and most of it was all destroyed, don't know if they rebuilt.
I have always been a lightweight in drinking by usually falling asleep - a few times in resturants! and many pictures at home sound asleep while everyone else is continuing on. After first getting diagnosed I was terrified to have anything to drink but now life is too short not to enjoy and I never have found anything that works as well as a nice wine if you have prepared an especially nice dinner - nothing suits like wine. Thanks for letting me join your party!

Stanzie - sounds like that ocean bar was a lot of fun! Too bad the hurricane had to destroy such a wonderful place. Falling asleep in restaurants? That's funny! You are welcome to join us anytime for a nice glass of wine or cocktail. We'll wake you up if anything entertaining happens! LOL!

Thanks for your concern for my tigger cat. He seems to be okay now. Frankly he is always a bit odd, but something really spooked him this morning. According to DH, he was freaked out before he hit the door. He is a totally indoor cat so and we NEVER give him catnip because he had a bad trip once.
NM -- yes, it was very hard to send that corgi back but at the time my girls were very young and I was afraid that they might get in the middle of a dog fight (females can be so viscious). I hope you'll bring Sadie on down to the cement pond; we're all excited to meet her!
Ladies, collect your effigees, totems, and junk. There is going to be a bonfire!

One of my cats is named Tigger, too! We call him Tiggs as a nickname. He is "The Man" of the house. He has 4 other female cats to bug. He shares a bedroom with Beyonce, our diluted calico. They come out to play under supervision (both like to pee on stuff). Now that my mom is staying with us, Tiggs has a new female to bother, Menina. She's a real pain it the a$$ cat (a pedigree Ocicat with a mean disposition), so she deserves to be tormented! LOL!!!

I love the tiggers! We have 2 -- the other is my avatar. DH thinks 2 cats is too many but they are littermates (from the SPCA) and I just couldn't leave one behind. Maybe living with Tiggs will improve Menina's disposition!

I don't think much will change Menina's disposition. She's a little devil! My husband is trying to get her to warm up to him. She's declawed in the front, so she can't scratch but she managed to bite my husband 3 times in just a few seconds. Little bugger!!! My mom spoils her. However, my mom left for a week to visit my aunt, so now she has to live under our rules!!! LOL!

stanzie--the swim up bar sounds sooo wonderful! If you describe it to Jocks and Pants they can probably approximate something like it, maybe in the wave pool? I bet they can work out something! As far as falling asleep after drinking, I suggest you go back through some old pages--you will find many mentions of falling asleep by the pool or in the casino during/after a party and there are even a few pictures!
AStorm--glad your Tigger is OK, and it's funny how many other Tiggers there are here! Such fun! And I can understand your concern about your kids. Having no children and usually having no history of the dogs I adopt I've always leashed my dog and supervised closely with friends with children come to visit. Both dogs and children can be unpredictable at times and I figure a short supervised visit then putting the dog in one room and the kids in another is a small price to pay to be sure there are no untoward incidents.
kittykat--live the line about Menina having to live with your rules! Too true and will probably do Menina a lot of good, too!
I forgot who started the idea of burning stuff to break the connections to the bad parts of the past but I want to join in! In a little more than a month (36 days to be precise) I can throw away the detested mastectomy bras and Silicone Sally! Once I recover, for the first time in my adult life, I will be able to got to a store and buy a pretty bra, and one that doesn't cost all outdoors and then some. I really feel like this is the point where I truly get my life back!
Ah, I see the Tenders and Wenches have brewed up some gourmet coffee and set out the breakfast buffet--the croissants look sooooo yummy. Got to head over there now~

Funny pet stories. My daughter has a boxer, Rex. She was trying to get him to go get his ball and he would walk over to it, act like he was going to get it, look at my daughter and walk away. She kept telling him "go git ur ball Rex". Well he kept doing what I mentioned above...then at one point, just walked over to the ball, lifted his leg and pee'd on it!
Stanzie, we do have a swim up bar in the pool
'm ready for our bon fire! I think we should have fireworks too!

Yummmm.... NM you are right about the wonderful buffet they set up for us! I think they take all the calories out too..what a life! Such a crowd by the mimosa fountain though....maybe I can just put a zillion straws together and run one end in the fountain....and lie by the pool and just sip away! LOL. Although I know "skates" (is that our roller-blading wench's name? I forget!), would get me refills in half a second!!! I agree with AStorm, and hope you bring Sadie here so we can meet her. How wonderful you found her so soon....really makes me smile just thinking about that. As far as burning the bras that we don't need, and getting new pretty ones....I STILL have not worn a bra since my recon in 09-08....LOVE the freedom and comfort...and having new perky boobs that do not need a bra! Gave lots of my bras away, but have a bag full of VS bras that I guess will go to the rescue mission...will they be surprised....they are pretty!
Stanzie, That swim up bar in the ocean sounds amazing! I think I saw a pic of it once. Glad you didn't fall asleep there!!! And don't worry, if the TT's take incriminating photos of you asleep at the bar, just remember...."What happens at the HTL, STAYS at the HTL"...so no worries there. Nice of you to join us...we have many more bar stools to fill. Enjoy the Sunday buffet!
AStorm, Thanks for the update, as we are all so glad your Tigger is okay now! What a scare! Our Maverick is still having trouble with his hip...but would prob be much worse w/out the $100/mo pills we are giving him! Sheesh....will have to see if there is a more affordable pill for him...even though we would pay it if that is the only option..but my similar pills are just $4/mo! He has been favoring it while walking/running, but I also wonder if it got worse having g'kids here for so long....our dogs love it when they are here, but don't know how to play, so they try to get out of their way when kids are throwing balls, running, etc. They are very gentle dogs, and get so happy to see the kids, but like to be on the sidelines...LOL. (They were about 2+ when we got them, and had never played b4, so balls & toys didn't mean much to them). But tummy rubs....thats another story! They are right there with NM's Sadie, in wanting belly rubs!
Dee, our drinks are okay today, as the fountains are overflowing, but hope you will post our Monday drink in the morning! We miss you.......
Lori, You were posting the pics while I was writing this "novel"....thanks for posting them so our new gals can see this zanadu we created!!
Okole Maluna,

Love the pictures! I'll see if I can find a picture of that wonderful bar.... then try and figure out the whole posting bit. It also had palm trees almost down to the water line with hammocks so after having really one strong rum concoction ( I would ask for them to be weak as the first one was so strong it actually hurt and burned going down) it was lovely to snooze by the water and let the wind slowly rock you.....
Yesterday my son and friend were in the pool playing while Liesl my wonderful sweet long haired dachsund was patroling the pool. She absolutly lives to catch and chase the pool cleaner (pool polaris as it is called but we call him Dewey after the pool company owner). She can spend hours waiting and watching it and when it comes up the side of the pool and she times it just right and catches his tail and water squirts everywhere she is in total heaven!
Well, yesterday the boys were playing on a giant inner tube and she was so excited she tipped in head first and went right under the boys. I was watching and on the phone - I threw the phone all the way into the garden and ran got the boys off her and she was scared but paddles over to the steps. I always make her swim out so she won't forget or if she were ever to fall in at night. Yes, it is fenced but she is small enough to get though the rungs.Sometimes I read while the kids play but after yesterday, maybe not.
So I got my beloved Liesl a cat for her 6th birthday as the vet said getting another animal would prolong her life and getting something different would reduce competition. So we have Tully. She is quite a pretty short hair almost all black cat with huge green eyes and huge bat ears as my daughter says even though I dont' think bat's really have such huge ears. She is 9 and finally is getting nicer. She is indoor/outdoor and will scratch and bite, but can be loveable when she chooses. Liesl loves her and likes to play but Tully as cats do will only give attention when she chooses.
Yes, I'd pay $100.00/month pills for Liesl if it helped her. She means the world to me. Her back went out when I moved into my new house after the divorce and they didn't think she would ever walk again but I worked with her and the valium and steriods finally worked after me carrying her non-stop for close to 6 weeks. She can run and chase Dewey just like a puppy!

I think we should plan a special bonfire night. And NM, Silicone Sally deserves her own special send-off!0
-
Sure is QUIET here this morning! Where is everyone??? Dee,I am waiting for that drink of the day...getting verrrrry thirsty...LOL. Stanzie, I LOVE your cat's name...Liesl....great name for a pet, and so original. When I had "Max"....there were like a million gazillion pets named "Max" at my vets! Very lonely here at the HTL today...come out, come out, drinking buds, wherever you are!!!0

Having a blue Monday. Underage DD took a bottle of champagne to the beach to share with her friends (without asking of course). Champagne as in imported from Champagne. I'm a wine connoisseur. This was a vintage Cristal from the year DH and I met. I bought it at a benefit auction several years ago and was saving it for our 20th anniversary next year. It would now be priced at about $400. Told her she needs to get a job so she can replace it and the longer she takes to replace it the more expensive it is going to be. Her only defense is that she saw me pour a rose down the sink (that was nasty plonk a guest left at our house after a party).
Sad, sad Monday. : (
And then... I found an Absence Excuse that stated I signed a note to excuse her from class for a dental appointment so that she could skip class on Friday. Things are piling up around here... When is that bonfire?
0 -
AStorm - well shoot sounds like your screen name is too appropiate right now as a storm is approaching ..... Boy that is what I think my daughter will be do when she is a bit older. She is the one I have to watch. So very sad about the Champagne - I hope at least she was upset about it...
Reminds me of when my sister and Mom had brought back some lovely wine from France, one special one in particular which they had taken great care of. Well, they moved and everything.. So one night I was over at my Mom's (sister was out of town) and we made a very simple dinner but thought some wine would be nice. So she got out this wine and we were drinking it and thought my this is awfully good we'll have to remember it. Well, we looked at the bottle and Whoops!! that was the bottle. My mom was horrified and said we can't tell my sister - she will kill me! So we kept quiet. Well come later in the year we had something to celebrate - perhaps a good medical report for my mom and my sister says let's drink the special wine! We just kept quiet as she ran to get it and came back saying oh well we must have already dranken it.... Whew!
On the Bonfire note - oh my gosh I'd have enough so that most of you could see the flames across the country.... divorce, breast cancer, close friends who disappeared at the first sign of trouble....

I'm all for the bonfire, but we can't do it here in Maine just now as we are under a Red Flag Warning. But I'm in wherever it does get lit up!

the desert just sounds right... I can swing by with the bus

I'm here--I'm here! Have my rowboat tied up outside. I'm staying here until I find a little outboard motor for my boat...think I've rowed for hours to get here......lord, have we had some rain!!!
Stanzie--I laughed at your wine story--we did something so similar with a bottle that son had brought back from France and asked us to hold for him...I put a note on the bottle but somehow, we drank it--son was horrified, but eventually was able to laugh about it!
AStorm--gentle hugs to you. Join me by the pool later and I'll share some teenage dau stories with you that will make you count your blessings!!! There was a time when my dau was 16 and my son was 8--and I wished I'd been born sterile........
While Jocks is icing down my bucket I'll share my current "blond story"......we've been a bit concerned that we rec'd no mail on Fri, Sat, or today. We ALWAYS get mail!!! Finally dawned on DH that he'd had the mail held while we were gone!!!!! He just walked in from the Post Office with an armful! LOL--thinking we're needing a caretaker!!
Jaybird--hope this latest assy erruption doesn't interfere with your schedule. Wonder when that volcano is going to settle down?
Yay!!! bucket's iced down....heading out to the pool. Think Jocks and Candie are getting the fire pit ready just waiting for us to say when the party will be. I have a lot of crap to throw into it!!!!
big hugggssss to all!

NM -- awww! She looks like a "Sadie".
Junie -- don't wear yourself out girl! we do have a bus ya know. The worst of it is that DD is spoilt. Her dad worries about upsetting her because she can pitch a fit like no one you have ever seen so he doesn't want me to punish her which makes me even more angry because I am not the manipulative type.... Hmm, I think I'm going to go buy a shiny new wine refrigerator with a lock on it and use his credit card. I can learn.
I HEREBY OFFICIALLY DECLARE TONIGHT "BONFIRE NIGHT".

AStorm-
I have a 1984 bottle of Champagne! It was a gift in my Wall Street days for crossing a major milestone on production. It is probably not as good as what your DD drank but might make a nice alternate!
BTW, I was a lot like your DD and let her go because if your try to hem her in, it is bound to get worse. For example: my father tried a curfew so I stopped coming home! No judgement...I was teen trying to enjoy all my party years to the fullest ladies! To the fullest :):):)

Just loading a few things on the bus:
Here is the evil mechanism that ruined all my knits when the rubber ring on the washer tore loose and flooded the laundry room causing me to have to buy a new washer.
This is the evil vacuum cleaner that decided to stop working. I hated you anyway!
the dead battery that AAA wouldn't replace because they think it is in the wrong car and now that the warranty is up I have to pay for
The PC that just quit one day. It was made by the company that laid off my husband after 20 years of service, thereby delaying my exams since I had to double my hours. Good ridance!

Lizzymack - but I was such a good girl. Bring that bottle with you on the bus... one of you owes me!
The worst of it is that she can't even describe the experience because she is too busy swearing she didn't drink any of it.

LOL!

NM, Thanks for sharing Sadie with us! She looks soooooooo sweet....and like she is all settled in. I take it you are keeping each other??? So glad you found her (or she found you)!!!
AStorm, Yikes! Can imagine how totally pissed you were (I would be!). How sad that you won't be able to drink it on your 20th....and your DD says she didn't drink any of it...wow. When my oldest DD was a teen and fascinated with her microscope, she wanted to look at a diamond that had come out of my wedding ring (I was going to have it reset)...I wasn't keen on that idea, but told her to only put it on her desk, as she had a multi-color blue/brn carpet. You guessed it...she had the microscope on the carpet, lost the diamond. I DID make her pay for it....but now I wished I hadn't done that! At the time it seemed like the right thing to do. BTW I love your pics of things to throw in the bonfire! I can add all my VS bras, a couple of ex-husbands, a contractor from h*ll who ruined our house, and us, in the process of adding a roofed deck...I think all that stress for a couple of yrs is what led to my getting bc. And then a contractor we hired to finish and fix all of that mess, had a worker with him who FELL from about 16' and landed by hitting his head on our deck....he had to have brain surgery and it was very scary (his atty didn't sue since we were able to prove it was all HIS fault). But its been a tense few years!!!
Liz, So glad you are joining us here! Yeah, I think we would all enjoy a taste from that '84 bottle!
Junie, No mail....soooooo funny!!!! Glad he finally remembered it was being held! And how funny (for you...NOT for your son!) that you accidentally drank the bottle you were keeping for him! Bet he didn't leave much with you after that...LOL.
PAU HANA time....and Bon Fire time!!!! Joining everyone around the fire pit....have my Seagrams/Diet Pepsi in hand................
Cheers drinking buds!

Holy Crap! Hope that bus has a trailer hitch 'cause think we're gonna need another trailer to hold all the bonfire stuff! See you all "fireside" in a bit!!!

Let's see, I need to start gathering the stuff I want to toss on the bonfire:
my stupid Rad Onc
Silicone Sally
Pile of notices from collection agencies for medical bills
ugly and expensive matectomy bras
my acquired fear of needles
hot flahes
anxiety disorder/PTSD
the phone I've spend so much of my time on since diagnosis:
I'm sure I'll think of more as the evening goes on.

Your rad onco looks menacing! I'm so glad I didn't have to do that. I forgot about the hot flashes:
and I've acquired a fear of nurses with IVs ... I can't find a pic of the ex-husband... oops guess i already burned all of them!

How 'bout this for an ex-husband pic:
