Oh my gosh we have had an oiled filled day. I made homemade potato chips which we dipped it in sour cream and chives - have to admit they were pretty amazing. Now the cold ones look pretty horrible. Then since I had the oil out and had an eggplant well I fried that as well. It was OK, not as good as I have had in resturants. Now the thought of oil just makes me ill.... need something to conteract it big time..... Hopeing the kids will still eat the potatoes cold or they can warm them up at school somehow....

     Oh boy school tomorrow!!!!

hi girls, I am popping in for happy hour and to say hello. I had a busy day with shopping and chores.

Stanzie, good idea to get earplugs for football time here but my luck, I will still hear him. Getting rid of the TV's would be a great idea but neither of us could live without TV.  We have seven cable connections and he seems to have either sports or worse yet, fox news and he often has it on multiple sets and does not turn off one and goes to another. Uhh, the crap we put up with.

Claire, if you come this way, the sking is great at The Pocono mountains. I think of you when I see news footage showing the open trails.

NM, great dotd, I just removed the juice and drank the likker.

Hello to Goldie, nice to see you here.  Feel better now! We missed you.

Kathy, I have also lost posts more than once.  I have also had where bc.org times out after I type a message and I know I will loose it since I can not copy paste running firefox. It also bugs me when I hit something wrong on the keyboard and loose everything.  BC.org should have an "undo" button.  Let's vote on it haha. I guess you have not heard from Junie, I am thinking of her and hoping for some good news.

Well I have to fold laundry from the dryer and move another load in.  It is hard for me to get $hit done. Maybe I will see you all in awhile.  Peace girls!!!

    Hi Ladies....

I think the skiing will be fine by the weekend.  Snowing now again in the mountains, and will be great if the snow stabelizes.  You don't have avalanche danger in the East, but you have to be a bit careful here.  However, the x-country skiing is tons more fun here.  I was looking at the Hog Loppet course yesterday and mentally preparing for the 20 miles of it in late February.

Ready for some wine prior to dinner.  Got myself lamb and pinenut sausages, as couldn't do any more virtuous food.  Well, not quite, as also got broccolini.

I think I will do what I promised myself I would complete for the next study first.

Wahine......I specialize in cracked windshields.  So know to get something fixed immediately.  The good news is how much clearer the view is with fresh glass.

NM.....obviously not enough "dirty martinis" if you are getting sidetracked with housework.  My contribution today was to take the empty wine bottles to the recycling.  I thought of you when I saw the "dirty martini" mix at Metropolitan Market when I was looking for pasta tonight.

I will be joining all of you pronto.  Meanwhile TITZ up!!!!

My friend lost her battle with the beast this afternoon.  When I called the hospital to find out what floor and they told me ICU, I got a sinking feeling in my stomach...went up to the hospital and her husband was in the ICU waiting room...things looked quite somber....I gave him the goody bag....he said he would see that she got it....I don't think that she ever say anything, but at least her family will have it.....When I left the hospital I tried to be optimistic, thinking, well people do get well from ICU...tonight after I got back from a walk with DH, DD told me that a couple people had called and left messages on voice mail....I knew then that the news was not good....I've just been sick about it all night....cried a little when I was getting out of my clothes...but I really need a good cry...my head is killing me, stomach is in knots, my jaws are tight and I can feel the pain in the back if jaw....its amazing how much our bodies process emotions physically...just drained...didn't think this would hit me so hard...but its just too close to home....funeral is supposed to be Wednesday....I generally don't do funerals, but thinking I may ask for time from work to attend....we weren't close, but she was a kind and gentle soul...she will be missed.

Wishing everyone a good night and hope that your Tuesday is a good one.  Karen

I am going to respond as I read, so if some of you don't know what I'm talking about, it's cuz it's from pages back, and I know all about "chemo brain"

Astorm, had to laugh at your DH using your yoga mat to wrap the pipes!

Kathy, sorry to hear you have to cancel your trip to Alaska. I hope things are ok.

Dorothy, sorry to hear of your pain. I hope it's nothing serious and I read later that it is taken care of.

Chrissy, just read your post and had to chuckle at your comment "the ole bladder just ain't what she used to be" LOL, I bet that goes for most of us here. Hoping to read good news about that later.

HD, I would be glad to let you go on some of my trips! Most of them are work related and this one required just standing in a 10x10 area for 3 days! Toilets swirling counter clockwise? LOL!

Kathy, indeed a "DRINKING THREAD" and I toast all the FANTASTIC GALS here!

WOOT WOOT Chrissy....just read all of your good news. DD's and your US! AWESOME. BARMEN!

Still 2 more pages to read, but don't have time. I need to get in the shower and to work. Love you all, CHEERS!

Karen, I am so very sorry to hear that your friend did not make it.  I am heading to the HTL chapel and will be praying for you and her family.  It is one raw deal and I understand the pain you must be feeling.

I am looking for our dotd.  I am thirsty for something good and make it a strong one too.

Our weather is crazy, we are having ice storms now and the temp is hovering at 32. It is supposed to warm up later but all schools had delayed openings and my employer also had a two hour delay....not that I am back to work yet but I checked anyway!   Today is a day that I am glad to be home in the safety of my home.

Where has everyone been?  Gosh, the lounge is so quiet this morning, someone, anyone, come and have a drink with me.

And Hi Cherylin, join us at the lounge and let's get drunk!! The more, the merrier.

Still thinkiing of Junie and hoping for some good news on her.  Now where the f is my dotd, darn it lol!! I get hostile when I don't have likker in me.

Good day to all you ladies, u know I love you all!!!!

Ah, good to see you Chrissy!  I prayed for you and all my girls with my bedtime prayers last night. I had a good prayer session, my mind usually wanders off but somehow last night, I was feeling a good communication with my God.

Bless you all.  I am exiting the chapel as I see that the tenders are whipping up some bloody marys and omelets!  Ooops, sorry Chrissy, maybe you can have some of the "near beers".  They are not quite the same but very close!!  Have a good night, my friend down under!!!

And f Aunty B!!! Go away and don't bother us!

    Good Morning my fellow loungettes!

Oh Karen, I am so sorry to hear about your friend losing the battle. That really sucks, and it is understandable that you need a good cry. I hope you were able to let it all out. Good idea to go to the funeral, or, if they have a visitation at the funeral home the night before, you could do that instead, if you don't want to take time from work. I find I can visit more with the family at the visitation, but not sure if they do that where you are. I am really very, very sorry. Will join Dorothy in the chapel for prayers. And its too bad you can't take benadryl., and that melatonin didn't work for you...hope you can get a good nights sleep somehow, if the sleeping pills are working.  (((HUGS)))

Lori, Good luck catching up! Soooooo many posts lately, but you are doing a good job! Wonder if Junie will have time to read back for over 2 wks, when she gets back home. I didn't get to call yesterday, and will be babysitting today, but will post as soon as I reach her.

Chrissy, Oh my goodness, hope you are keeping yourself occupied since you can't dwink! You know, they have flavorings, like rum flavoring....you can add that to a drink and although you won't feel the benefits, it does taste like the real thing. Of course, it probably isn't the "taste" you are missing! LOL. Time to kick auntyB to the curb!!!!!

Taking a BIG pitcher of bloody mary's to the pool. Gotta stretch out on a lounge chair and enjoy the nice weather here. This is funny....I went to the sporting goods store and bought a hula hoop yesterday....didn't know "size matters"....lol....but it does here. Thought "why can't I hula hoop anymore.....should be like riding a bike after years, right?". Well, there are several sizes apparently, and I got the "child's" size....the larger sizes are easier, the taller you are! Anyway, hope that brought a smile to your faces.....me getting so frustrated only being able to keep the hula hoop going for a few seconds!!! I think they only had one large one there, so maybe can switch it out today. Trying to find a fun way to exercize inside!!!! Oh wait, does hoisting a big heavy drink to my mouth, count as exercize?

IN the coop, doing the hoop, what a bloop(er), TITZ UP!

Karen1956-I am so sorry to hear about your friend's death. Funerals are so hard, but sometimes they do help with the grieving process. You'll know what you need to do about that, in the meantime have yourself a good cry. You'll miss your friend always. I'm sure her family appreciates your thoughtfulness, even if they don't say anything about it right now. Try to get a good night's sleep, that will help, too.

Dorothy-sorry to be late with the DOTD, I had to leave home by 0 dark hundred to be at work by 7:30. Good thing we had an early start as school was closed due to snow at 1 pm!

Chrissy-did no one tell you that the drinks in the HTL are all chemically altered so that they don't interact with Aunty-B's or chemo? No bad reactions, no hangovers, just fun drinking here!

Wahine-I have this mental picture of you with a hula hoop constricting you in the middle! I'm going to go look up a good DOTD and then wander over to the hot tub to soak for a while.

Now for a DOTD.  OK, this is from another thread but I can't get out of my mind water swirling down the toilet counter-clock wise vs. clockwise, so the DOTD is The Counter-Clockwise Flush:

    1 oz Peach Schnapps
    1 oz Coconut Liqueur
    1 scoop Orange Sherbet
    1 dash Grenadine

How did I miss the counter clockwise flush???

Karen - so very sorry for your loss and I agree with NM. The family certainly appreciated your thoughtfulness even if they can't tell you right now. I know when my son was in the hospital my Dad's wife who was always very distant was the first person to come see him and left him some little socks ( he was an infant) and that has always meant so much to me that she did that. Also don't get worried abour yourself even if you had a similar diagnosis - we all are individuals and our bodies all react and recover differently so because something happens with one person it doesn't mean it is true for anyone else.

I know have to go back and look up a counter clockwise flush ??? How do I miss this stuff?

Hope the snow isn't too bad for all of you up north!

ehhh, it did not work, the pic showed up at preview but went away.  It was Jesus himself and the most beautiful version.  Oh well, maybe it would be too much for here anyway.. I know he hears me though, I can feel it. And I do not want to offend anyone who is non Christian.

NM...Sorry I left you with that visual...lol. I did get a larger hoop at the Sports store.....but it is made so skimpy....not as well made as the smaller one. Good thing is, I took one of the smaller ones with me babysitting today, and my 6 yr old g'dau had never tried a hula hoop. It was hard at first, but she finally got the hang of it, so I left that one with her. That look of pure happiness when she figured it out ...priceless!

Funny about the counter-clockwise flush. I wanted to figure that out the last time we were in OZ, but all the toilets we had were the type where it just went straight down.....you have 2 buttons on the tank, depending on how what you have done....lol.  Much more water-efficient than ours are. NM, that counter-clockwise flush drink sounds really good!

Wanted to try the DOTD, but it is happy hour, and it just seemed quicker today to mix up my Seagrams/Diet Coke. Anyone here drinking at the HTL?????

    Suck 'Em Up,

    kathy

P.S. I can't believe they are mentioning the "S" word again, for Thurs-Fri.

Wahine....I'm Jewish and so is/was my friend....We dont have visitation before the funeral. The funeral is tomorrow. The service will be at the synagogue then buriel. Often our funerals are grave side service, but I think because this will be a large turnout they are doing the service at the synagogue. Following the funeral, we have a week of mourning called "shiva"...the family sits "shiva" in their home and friends etc come visit the house to comfort the family. Meals are also provided for the family for the week. There is more to it, but this is a quick explanation.

thanks everyone for your kind thoughts....Karen

Karen, That sounds like a nice way for everyone to pay respects to the family, and nice that meals are provided for the entire time. Thank you for explaining it! What a sad time, and so sad that this disease is still claiming too many wonderful people. Hope her family is doing okay.

    Hugs,

Wow, busy at the lounge today!

Good to see you here Lori! Yeah, we had the prettiest pipes in the neighborhood. Just a reminder, don't ever lick a frozen pipe!

Karen - so very sorry about your friend. I've heard about the tradition of shiva... seems like this should bring everyone some comfort, just being together, but also I imagine your friend would be comforted knowing that her family and friends will come together like this and support each other. When my SIL passed, she had planned a birthday party and invited friends from everywhere and every part of her life. As it turned out, the party followed her funeral. I thought it odd because I was so sad (Catholics mourn quietly) but she made a point of saying she wanted the party to happen without her... she choose the music -- all upbeat and a lot of C&W -- and she wanted us to dance.

Stanzie - thanks for the reminder that we are all individuals. We hear so much bad news and it always makes me so sad. There is a woman in my neighborhood who isn't going to recover and we lost my SIL 5 years ago. My dx wasn't as bad but I just knew my family would associate me with them and worry more than they needed to. I know bc sucks but I still think that we are so lucky and should remind ourselves of that every day.

I'm going to find Kathy and help her with those bloody mary curls.

Getting late to the party as have been underwater with work today.  More to come.

So sorry Karen about your friend, and also sorry to learn of two Stage IV women on the boards.  One was not a surprise, but the other one blindsided me.  Just so much suffering.

I was mentioning to a friend today that one of my learnings from this experience is to live each day to the fullest.  Yes, there will still be some days I need to write off, but certainly will be one of my guiding principles going forward.

One of the others will be to make sure I get enough good wine Laughing

And of course, make room for fun stuff in my life.  I am beyond thankful, and can't believe how lucky I have been, not just that I am here a year later, but in all the wonderful things that are in my life.

Champagne??????  O wait.....that's for my birthday three weeks from now.

Wahine-I thought the mental picture was a hoot-don't apologize! I can just imagine your granddaughter learning to hula hoop! 2 buttons on the flush? I've never seen that, but it sounds very practical. And the weather guessers are predicting another snow storm, possibly a Nor'Easter on Friday! Good grief!

Karen-I had a friend in high school who was Jewish. I remember, vaguely, her telling me that people are buried very shortly after the death. The Shiva custom sounds like a very good way to support a grieving family. Thanks for sharing the details with us.  I don't know if there is a symbol of Shiva, if I did I'd post it here in your friend's honor, so I'm posting these candles for her:

AStorm-LOVE the birthday party after the funeral story! My grandmother made it very, very clear that we were not to have a funeral for her. She hated funerals, thought they were an unnecessary expense and too hard on the survivors. She stated so in her will. Also in her will she "allow a simple graveside committal service if the family finds it absolutely necessary." That's Grammy. She'd have loved the idea of a party instead!

Claire-understood about being underwater at work. My clinical schedule for the semester changes 2 and sometimes 3 times a day. Current variation has me working a 12 hour clinical on Tuesdays. Last variation had me doing a 6 hour clinical on Tues and Weds in the evening. I'll be glad when it gets finally settled! I'm tired of re-writing the clinical orientation info!

By the way, Claire, Champagne is good for ANY day, especially here in the HTL!

DOTD is a good morning drink using Champagne--

    Fizzy Fuzzy Navel

    (Fill to Top) Champagne
    1 1/2 oz Peach Schnapps
    2 oz Orange Juice

I just looked at my back deck--it rained on top of yesterday's snow, now I need an Ice Breaker

    1/4 oz Cognac
    1/2 oz Creme de Noyaux
    3/4 oz Dark Rum
    1/4 oz Gin
    2 oz Lemon Juice
    1 oz Orange Juice

This is the best kind of ice breaker:

but this is the kind I usually use:

Karen, so sorry for your loss. I had met a few people during my treatment, got close to 6 of them and 3 of them have passed.

Kathy, as for losing posts, if it's just from hitting the wrong key, sometimes you can click on the "undo" and get your post back. It's the blue arrow to the left at the top of the reply box, next to the smiley face. I always lose my posts due to internet connections, which is why I use Word sometimes. LMAO at you and the hula hoop!

Astorm, had to laugh at licking the frozen pipe. My dad did that in his younger years, they had to get water to pour on his tongue to release it! Back to the birds and the bushtit. When you described the bird being gray and a little tuft on his head, that to me sounds like a Tufted Titmouse, not a bushtit. I was a big birder in MI and had them (Tufted Titmouse) there. I also have them here in AZ.

    Bushtit

    Tufted Titmouse

Well, I didn't open word for my responses, as most of the talk has been about pie. I am not a big pie fan, but there is a town in NM that has a pie festival every year. Name of town.....Pie Town! Go figure!

Junie would be missing for another few weeks if she tried to read back and catch up! We just want her home and well!

Well, been sitting here for an hour, reading and typing. Must get me bum in the shower. We are heading out again tomorrow! Back down to Phx. Have a freind coming to learn about our business, as she is going to help us out. Love the Ice Breakers! .......and everyone here!

Good morning!!!! Having my coffee and visiting here with my breast friends. Lori, unfortunately when I lose the post, it also loses the page and goes to our drinking thread. I have tried to go back a page too, but doesn't work. Let me know if you have other ideas, as I am desperate when that happens!

NM, Love the pics, BTW! I have never heard of a fuzzy, fuzzy navel, and with champagne! I do like the regular fuzzy navels with vodka, but forget about having them! Gotta try one tonight. Oh, didn't realize they predict a N'Easter for you on Thurs.....we are expecting some snow Thurs/Fri, but prob will be very light. Stay safe!!!

Even though I tell Junie that everyone says hi, and is praying for her, and misses her, a couple of us found a way to send an email to her hospital bed. IF anyone wants me to send her a message, or even just add her name to an e-card, let me know and I will send another one later today. Just breaks my heart that she is still in the hospital.  Hugs to Junie...  (((junie)))

Well, DH is getting packed for Tunica....lets see, I will be..... HOME ALONE! WooHoo!!! It is nice to have solitude every once in awhile. But of course I always try to get projects done (or started!) while he is away. Maybe I should PARTAY instead!!!! Anyone wanna send those firemen over????  J/K . Ok, tiime to try that fuzzy, fuzzy navel.....Pants, can you put that in the mimosa fountain today....just add some peach schnapps. Thanks dear!

Hope eveyone has a nice HumpDay!

Kathy, thanks so much for sending the card to Junie and just to keep reminding her that we are thinking of her and miss her !

They have the tufted titmouse or would that be titmice birds here in Ga. They are allways around.

Went to my trainer - not a great session but it is a start and will make myself go to choir tonight and try and rejoin the world since I've been hiding for a while. Another fight with SO. Ugh, so stressful and we just are not communicating in the slightest which makes it hard.

I have a several Jewish friends and I think sitting Shiva is very nice. I like a lot of things belonging to the Jewish faith. My son is best friends with one of my friend's Mom's - when they were little and still belived in Santa Claus I was always so impressed how they never spilled the beans on that one. This is alos the same son who going back to the picture of the kids with their tongues stuck - well - yep he did that. I have an old soup chiller in the freezer that I've had since I was a child. It is metal and you keep it in the freezer so when you want to cool something hot down you put it in. Well he just couldn't stand it and put his tongue on it. Yep froze right on. He still remembers it and it comes up now and then.

Kathy, you have my prayers for Junie, they will not stop.  And I am glad you all liked that I added our little non-demoninational chapel, every lounge needs one, right? It looks very pretty and feels good to go in and worship before dwinking! And please, if you have not already sent that card, I would love to have my name added.  I sure do miss Junie here and will keep the faith that she will come back fully well.  I am glad that her condition is not bc related but still sad nontheless.

I loved the pics of the birds and loved the names even more.  Who on earth is doing the bird naming, very odd names but humorous.

NM, you do such a wonderful job with the photos and also keeping us gals drunk nice and early.  I am sorry I was getting impatient with wanting my DOTD. When I get to jonzing for a dwink, I want what I want and NOW!! Oh and thanks for the pic of that Nor'Easter, yikes, not another.  I am so tired of snow and am not a fan on winter.  I get SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder and this year it is more evident with being home so much of the season and not working.  In the summertime, I practically live in my back yard during my off time.

I am still having this weird stinging pain in my left arm, the bc side. It starts at my armpit and runs down halfway to my elbow. I am starting to think I should call a doctor but am unsure who to call.  It started after my exchange which was three weeks ago and is getting worse.  Do you all think I should address this with my PS or my BS? I have a feeling that it is node related.  I have no swelling but it just hurts like hell.  I was trying to avoid seeing a doc since I have to pay out of pocket for the visit and we are poor.  I just need to get my arse back to work and make some big bucks.

Stanzie, I saw on our local news where an older brother was at a bus stop with his younger brother and the big bro dared the little bro to stick his tongue on a stop sign.  Well you know what happens...it got stuck and the kids paniced and called 911.  The paradedics used hot water to get it off.  I guess that older brother is in some hot water with his family lol.  Kids!!

Well I have to decide what to make for dinner.  DH made us a delicious dinner last night and was being so romantic. I think he is trying to apologize for his antics over football this past weekend.  God, he was being a big brat! I will catch to all later.

Peace and love to each of you!
