how about drinking?

Chrissy, What a purrfect DOTD! Thank you!!! And, a big welcome to our new friend Ellie! Since there is no consensus on the actualy cause of bc, try not to feel guilty about anything you have done. Personally, in my case I feel it was an overload of stress, but that is IMHO. Just join us here, and have fun. Like Chrissy said, most of our drinking here is virtual.....with some at home drinking included, if you so desire. Right now, I am summoning our Tattie Tenders, Pants and Jocks, to make me that SHOCKER drink! Thanks, Chrissy!
TITZ UP,
Kathy

Hey Party Gurlz!
I just can't keep up with you gals anymore so I don't even try. It's been a busy Winter so far. The older Avery gets the less time (and energy it seems) I have to read/post here. Also, had to step away for a while due to all the bad news here.
I'm currently in Moscow, was supposed to be for 24 hours but is now 48 so with an extra day here some of us will go to the big outdoor (brrrrr) market for Russian made stuff. Got an excellent (warm!) hat there back in November. It's a great place to get gifts.
I hope all of you had great holiday's! Happy New Year!

YAY...good hearing from you Jaybird! Hope you get some really nice stuff at the Russian market...but how brrrrrrrrr cold is it there? Just glad to hear you are ok....and can't blame you for staying away from all the bad news we had here, this week. This is supposed to be a fun place to escape, but since we all get close to each other, its hard not to be concerned about everyone here. Maybe we will have all GOOD NEWS for awhile...so far today is pretty good!!!! Have fun in Moscow and will you be drinking vodka there, or your beloved scotch???? I miss all your likker and wine suggestions.......
TITZ UP!!!!

Chrissy.......the most fab news.
Ellie....welcome, and no, we can't turn the clock back. I will chide you on the smoking though for the obvious reasons. But no clear links with BC in the same way as with some other cancers.
I think I am through the worst of the work crunch, but that could change if my client doesn't agree with what I just sent out. Raining and miserable here, so skiing this weekend is iffy at best.
Cycling in the rain isn't a lot of fun either.
Will join the PAR-TAY later as just noon here. - Claire

Chrissy - Oh Thank Goodness!!! I know you are so relieved for your daughter!!!
Kathy - yep no school till Tuesday..... The finally started delivering papers but no mail yet or trash pickup - supposedly tomorrow for trash and maybe mail. Have not ventured out at all. Trying to get things done but I keep getting side tracked with movies and books and such... oh yes the computer!
Ellie - I agree you can feel guilty over the past just live in the present and future. I agree with Kathy I think stress is the biggest contributor and how one handles stress - for me not well. But I'm going to try to work on handling it better... soon I hope.
I slept in this morning so I didn't see the little Panda - thanks for taking me off the hook for trying to nap the poor little thing for the HTL but hey since this is all virtual anyway.... why not a virtual panda cub or even two! Now if I was really talented a cute picture would follow.... However that is not my forte and I'm on the wrong internet connection - firefox won't let you post pictures so perhaps later.... Yay for some good news and Yay for Beanie and Jaybird to pop in!!! I know how cold it gets in Moscow - We were there adopting our daughter from souther Siberia and it was 30 below!!! now that was cold!
Stay warm and Cheers!

Good news Chrissy. Hope you have a glorius day today. As I had hoped....I am the first at the party here tonight. I told pants and jocks to behave tonight and really try to cater to each of our needs. Right now, I am needing a drink. I also have a sore back Kathy so I am going to the fukitol, then to the likker, and if that doesn't work...I'll find something that will. Three wonderful days off work....Enjoy everyone! HD

Good Saturday morning, Loungettes! I'm working on getting things caought up around the house that got ignored duirng the last week and getting ready for next week. Fortunately, I've got Monday off (Martin Luther King Day), so that gives me a bit more prep time! Got a whole list of things to do today, got a couple crossed off, working the rest 15 monutes at a time.
Let's see, what would be a good DOTD for today? How about The To Do List? 1/4 oz 151 proof rum
1/4 oz101 proof Wild Turkey® bourbon whiskey
1/4 oz Blue Curacao liqueur
1 splash pineapple juice
1 splash orange juiceShake and strain into glass.
Or maybe the Kung Fu Panda? 10 ml Bailey's® Irish cream
10 ml Kahlua® coffee liqueur
10 ml Ribena® blackcurrant cordialLayer all ingredients into a shot glass, firstly pour Ribena into the glass and layer Kahlua next. Last step layer baileys and served.

Morning Girlz! Thank you NM for TWO DOTD's!!! We are very lucky today. I got a laff about the 1st drink with "Wild Turkey". And I prob told this before, if so, pleeez bear with me! On one of our trips to HI to see my Dad, DH and I were staying in Waikiki, so he picked us up and as he dropped us off at our hotel, DH asked him if he would like to come up for some wild turkey (dad is big bourbon drinker). He declined, saying he had his fill of it.....till we explained it was the BOURBON and not turkey....it was right after Thanksgiving...lol. When he realized what it was, he promptly parked the car,and joined us! I guess he thought we had shot our own turkey since we were liviing in AL??? LOL. I'v never even seen a "wild" turkey. I think that is all gone now, but we do have the Wild Turkey Liqueur, which would be tooooo strong for me!
NM, do you follow "fly lady"? Just wondered, when you mentioned doing your tasks in 15 min intervals. When I follow her, I really get more done too, and get very motivated. My DD and I went up to Chattanooga for a conference she had, a few yrs ago. Shes a very nice gal! If not, you prob wonder WTH am I talking about! LOL. I do hope you get a lot done today....sounHds like you are tackling it in the right way!
Gail, Funny about the gals from "down under" swimming UP to our bar! Cracked up over that. And I also got a kick (well not literally!) about the "virtual yoga"...prob more my speed! LOL. Hope you, and everyone else here, will have a GR8 weekend!!! ITs about time we all have heard some happy news, so I really hope everyone is doing well.
Looks like the TT's and Wenches have our buffet all spread out for us, and all the fountains going at full speed ahead. YAHOO!!! Dig in, everyone! I think I will start with some Bloody Mary's this morning...don't know how Pants makes them, but they are "spot-on". ChEEERS galz, drinks are on me!
BOTTOMS UP! TITZ UP!!!!

good day!
Kathy, very funny story about the wild turkey...sounds like something I would do. I have seen just a few wild turkeys around here and have seen them on the same plot of farmland. Maybe they are not wild now that I think about it. Hmmm.
Stanzie, the little panda in Atlanta is a must have at the HTL, we will have the cutest lil mascot of anyone here. All us girls can distract the zoo keepers while you grab the little baby, we can get the tenders to assist with the getaway.
Well time to hit the To Do List then get moving. I am working on my kitchen today and hope to get into my bedroom. I had the help of a cleaner this week with the living room, family room, baths and halls but need to do some decluttering, go through stacks of papers and file, then organize and get rid of alot of clothes. Ehhh, who am I kidding. I never get to the clothes. Well maybe after a few more To Do's, I will find some added motivation.
Have a great day girlz. Cheers!!

I have seen tons of wild turkeys. We used to have a flock of them on our lawn at times when I lived north of NYC. One time when I was cycling, one jumped out in front of me. I was very quiet and cycled slowly, so for a few minutes, we were both doing a "Turkey Trot" down the bicycle path!!!
As for cleaning, my "Good Drinks for Bad Days" book recommends a "dirty Martini" as the libation of choice.
I am off cycling today, as rainy and windy in the mountains. Hopefully, I get my ride in before getting soaked to the skin.

Reminds me of when my kids were little - OK sorry if I have already told this one. But we went to a birthday party at a farm where they had baby animals bunnies, kittens, puppies, colts and such. They also had pony rides and all the kids were having fun. Where was I? not with my one son who rode the pony and I have no picture to show for it. Nope chasing my son with DS off into the woods as he saw some wild turkeys and that is the Only animal that interested him. Man those guys can really run too.
Where is everyone? Claire is off biking like the good exercise queen she is and I got out my trampoline and looked at it. It is still there....
Been reading though.... does that count for something....?

Hey Stanzie...cute story about your sons. At least you got your trampoline out. DH put the batteries in my Wii Fit board...haven't taken the plastic off the software disc. Does that count too? LOL! Come drink with me. DH is watching playoff football. I am thinking Junies DH is probably in the hospital room watching also. I know he is a football fan. Hope she is doing well. Junie, if you are reading, I got a scratch ticket in honor of you! Haven't played it yet. Where the heck is everyone? DH

I tried wii fit. It was alright there wasn't much to actually get your heart rate up on but at least you are not just sitting there and a lot of the things are awfully funny .... especially if you have had something to drink then it is much funnier but not much for losing weight I'm afraid.
Actually there was one program that was alright but it got boring pretty quickly. I had a friend who would come over and we would do it together well, it was funnier when we ran into each other cause neither of us is co-ordinated enough to handle it. The paragraph above I was actually thinking of something different a different wii game. I just didn't do it enough to get to a higher level and I wanted more from it.
Hence the reason I bought the trampoline.... so will let you know when I do something more than looking at it! I did try the trampoline with my trainer at her gym and it was pretty fun - it just doesn't look nearly as fun in my basement.... sigh.
Hope Junie is doing much much better and so when do we get to hear the results of the scratch off???
0 -
Stanzie...I got the Wii fit plus. I hope it wasn't a waste of money. Probably was. Haven't done the scratch ticket. I am making some green salads for dinner while DH BBQ's steak. Baked taters in the oven, and need to get french bread ready. MOST IMPORTANTLY: Need to open wine for a breather. Going to have a Clois Du Bois Merlot. It is pretty good cheap wine. Will check back later. Chores! HD

Hi Girlzzzzzzz,
Stanzie, that is a hilarious story about your DS running off to chase the wild turkeys! Sorry you didn't get the pic of your other DS though. Don't berate yourself over it; you did what you had to do! Hope the trampoline will call your name soon, and NOT "Here tramp, here tramp". Oh, I couldn't resist that.....and you KNOW I was J/K, cause you are a verly classy lady. But I hope you will want to try it out. I FINALLY started back on the treadmill today...I love it, but just getting started is always my downfall. I watch programs I have recorded, so the time goes quickly. I also started tracking what I eat in a day, with an online program...what an eye-opener! Don't dare add my happy hour drinks.....LOL.
Yeah HD, I hope you win $$$ from that scratch tix. I haven't called Junie yet today, but will soon, and then will update. I am just hoping for real good news!!! SO, it sounds like you are a "football widow" tonight? Hope you are able to relax while he is gone....and enjoying your THREE DAY weekend!!!! YAY!!!!! Junie will pass out if I tell her this, but I am letting my DH go to Tunica alone next week. Just too much to do here, and don't want to be away while my parents are here. We are delaying our Alaska trip, but I still haven't called Delta...I am "chicken" to find out all the fees involved with cancellations!
Hope everyone is having a Super Slammin' Saturday Slugging down Drinks!

Wahine-yes I do follow FlyLady much of the time. So
metimes I have to do 10 minute or even 5 minute intervals, but the system works no matter what timing I use! I'd love to see her live some day.
Claire-the wild turkeys are multiplying here in Maine. Student drivers and newcomers to Maine are warned to slow down or stop when a turkey crosses the road, because sure as shootin', at least one more will be right behind it, and often it's a whole flock! They're causing more accidents than cars hitting deer now.Stanzie-my friend's son has Asperger's and the oddest things will catch and hold his attention. Sometimes it's actually kind of funny!
Ok, I'm going to swim up to the down under swim up bar (is anyone confused yet? I confused myself!) and see what kind of drink the tenders are recommending for this evening. Then I'm going to go soak in the hot tub and see if I can get my back to stop aching. I know I'm out of shape, but just doing housework shouldn't make my back ache so much, it's just un-motivating!

Hey girly girlz,
Nice to see many of you here. My DH likes my company when watching foote-ball and I really do not care. Uhhh.
HD, bring leftovers, dinner sounds yummy. Enjoy.
Oh Stanize, I think I would just love jumping and working out on a tramoline. I just don't think I could do it inside of my house. And if I did it outside, I would feel a bit silly. I have neighbors on the street behind me where I can not even see the house but I often see these two little girls jumping high to the sky and always wish I could join them. It is a beautiful view from my sliding door leading to my deck. I used to jump on my dd's little one when she was young and say I was practicing for the "man show"! I think we should get one at the lounge.....weeeeeeee, i am jumping high. Can we can we please????
Kathy ,waiting to hear about Junie and praying all is well with her.
Funny pics, NM. I will join you at the down under swim up bar (love the name)...I heard we got another four stools since we fell short at the udder swim up bar. It is ladies night and I feel like dancing! And jumping.......weeeeeeee!!! <insert photo of jumping drunk girls here>
Cheers and tits up!
_edited to add pic!!

Kathy, I am not alone tonight.....just watching football with DH. So, now I have my big laptop and my dinner ready. New game started. I am so thankful my husband likes to grill. Sure makes my life easier and he does a great job. I am hoping that junie can get the strength to post again. We are missing some heads around here. I am thinking about joining NM at the swim down under bar just to see how many of you gals have gils. Yeeeha! Tomorrow I need to be more productive. I don't think the Flylady can help me at all. Really never looked at the website to be honest.
P.S. Do you have to wait a half hour to go into the pool after a shot, or just food? HD0 -
Food only definately!
That picture is the size of my trampoling- yes Kathy loved your here tramp comment!!! LOL!!
The biggest trick is not to really jump as I would kill myself on my low basement ceiling. Anyway, you actually don't really jump it is a limited move where you get the cardio workout but exercise certain muscles. It is the co-ordination that kills me. For me it is a huge brain exercise to make my arms and legs do what I think they are doing or what I hope they are trying to do. All this with out any drink too!! Wonder if a drink might help instead - No I'd probably knock myself out on the low ceiling and how long then would it be before I'm found?

I took a long nap today after my ride and hot bath. Only got a bit wet towards the end, then went for pizza at Whole Foods. Was really nasty driving back and was thrilled that the ride was over.
This is the first day in about six weeks that I haven't felt a ton of work pressure, so think I was tired from that. Plus, days like last weekend when I went skiing and did three hours work after that.
I have to register for a conference while the cheaper rates are still in effect. Just so much going on, and I can see I need to be connected more. Had that think as I did my ride. Getting on track some more. Plus, this is probably the last year I will be able to live here. The Gates Foundation and Amazon are moving to within walking distance of here. So I will need to think about where in Seattle I want to live. Was thrilled to have only a modest rent increase for now.
Feeling my bicycle ride as the last time I went cycling was Christmas Day, and then only a few other times in December. Hopefully, I will be able to do one more tomorrow.
Hoping Junie is on the mend. YIKES.....still worried, but relieved to know she is in the right place. See all of you in a bit. - Claire

Oops HD... I must have been posting when you posted about the dinner fixin's and DH grilling! Sounds like it was a yummmmmmy dindin! All I did was saute spinach w/ garlic & basil leaves, then made a fresh mushroom omelet. Really good though! Then popcorn as we watched a movie....did I mention I think I ate my days calories waaaaaay b4 dinner? LOL. And of course, I didn't add up the happy hour calories! Wish it was like the HTL and had no calories. But the movie was sad...and based on truth..."Open Water".....makes me scared to ever go snorkeling again! OR at least I will stay reallllly close to the boat.
Dorothy, So cute about not seeing the house, but seeing the 2 little girls jumpiing sky-high! I remember the "man show" and that WAS funny when they would show the gals on the tramp. Or were THEY the tramps??? j/k. That was with Adam Corolla, right? Are you watching SNL tonight?
No update, as I forgot to call junie. Bad Kathy....Bad Kathy....*I am slapping my hand*.....will call her tomorrow, and hope I will still be welcome here! Must be all the partying that made me forget. Booze seems to do that! Ok, I gotta join you all in the down under swim up bar. Thanks for adding more barstools Dorothy, you think of everythinhg!
Snorkeling, Swimming, Drinking......

NM - love the little housekeepers. When I was little my family called me "the little white tornado" because I was always cleaning something. The 2nd one reminds me of me...
Dorothy - I want to be a jumping drunk girl that looks like fun!
Claire - wish I had gone to Whole Foods for pizza with you... I made a pizza from scratch. The dough was perfect... the sauce was tasty... I used fresh mozzarella and fresh basil... and then when I was trying to get it off the peel and onto the stone in the oven it folded under and half the cheese fell off. ARRRGGGH! And the more I messed with it the uglier it got. The cheese on the stone must have been too hot because by the time my ugly pizza was baked, the stone had cracked. ARRRGGGH! I cut up the ugly pizza and served it with arugula and parmesan on top and everyone loved it but me.
BAD PIZZA!
Today was lovely. DH and I went wine tasting at two small wineries. The 2nd one was especially beautiful and because I appreciated the Pinot Noir, I got extra tastes of some older vintages. Actually, I'm enjoying a glass of it right now, and raising a glass to all my friends at HTL!
... mmmmmm!

YIKES, Gail. This calls for another glass of pinot.
I just finished off last night's dinner: rack of lamb, roasted veggies, spinach.....and the cabernet.
Life is good, and tons to celebrate.

Heads up: NATIONAL PIE DAY IS NEXT SATURDAY.
Wanted to make sure that all of us are prepared. All sorts of pies count: tourtiere, onion tart with cheddar cheese, Cornish Pasties, and other meat pies. All sorts of fruit and other sweet concoctions. And Boston Cream, or pecan.
If you plan this one right, you can have appropriate tipple to serve with.
No excuses for not partaking. And guys just LOVE pie. Can you think of anything better???
0 -
Claire - I grew up eating tourtiere and creton quebecois (aka cocton) in Boston. Are you perhaps French - I generally don't hear others mention tourtiere..? Do you know where we can find a good tourtiere nearby?
My DH is the piemaker here, something new he started in the last year. For the holidays he made a delicious cranberry/blueberry lattice pie from Bon Appetit.
Did you ski today?
0 -
OK....Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie for me (Beans are you listenting?)!!! I only like sweet pies, no meringue, no pastry, and no meat pies either. On 2nd thought, maybe I should skip National Pie Day and let you all enjoy it!
AStorm, your wine-tasting day sounded superb! What a nice way to spend the day.
