So I decided to have a couple of glasses of wine with my MIL and our family Thursday night - crappy Merlot but I slept like a baby - last night out with my folks - 88 and 85 - (my mom could drink anyone under the table) had 2 glasses of really nice 7 Deadly Zins - red Zin - OMG- night from hell - weird ass dreams (kept dreaming about having a baby and losing it - ) and was awake every hour on the hour - so back to teatotalling for a while. I used to love a good wine buzz- sigh Kiss I guess I need to stick to my Malibu and Diet squirt - predictable - no buzz at all but doesn't keep me up. So - Go Pack! I am in Iowa and Wisc. is 2 minutes away so of course we are Packer fans - and I have a crush on Clay Matthews - any ideas of snacks for the game?

Junie--I remember how frustrated I was with how tired I got after my 4 day hospitalization, I cannot imagine how frustrated you are right now.  I'm popping into the lounge chapel to say a prayer for your speedy recovery and minimal frustration.

KittyKat--I got a notice that there was a delay, and actually I expect there will be another one when the laptop gets to the east coast as there is another storm coming through tonight/tomorrow.  I'm not upset or anything, I just got excited when I saw the expected delivery date on the tracking site, then got a tad dissapointed when the next update was different.  Its not like I don't have a computer, after all, and I'd rather wait than have the guys/gals on the road in bad driving. It'll get hee when it gets here!

Anybody have any tips for trimming the toenails of a rambuctious yellow lab that does not like to have her feet touched?  Sadie's nails are getting too long, and every time I've tried to trim them she fights me and I end up getting scratched and black and blue.  All my other dogs I could gradually work into letting me clip, but she's not having any part of it.  I'm reluctant to pay to get it done since I don't know how groomers do it and I don't want to traumatize her any more than she already seems to be about it.

Lets see, what would be a good DOTD?

    Sadie's Toe Nail Drink

    3 oz Bourbon Whiskey
    1 oz (Juice of) Ginger
    1 splash Ginger Ale
    3 slices (beaten) Cucumber

(I have no idea what a (beaten) cucumber is, or how to juice a ginger)

     Is this a beaten cucumber?

Darn it,l lost  my post by hitting a wrong key.... *AGAIN*!!! Anyhow, want to say a big GOOD MORNING to all the loungettes here. Now I am LOL at both Stanzie's AND NM's pictures! Stanzie, did we create a monster by telling you how to post pics? Just kiddin, I enjoyed them so much, and they were SO appropriate! Love the flying computer and the baby with humongous feet! And how did you ever teach a sock monkey to hula hoop? Actually, I am using that in my avatar to honor HD, as she loves them very much. WIth her love of sock monkeys, they have become the unofficial mascot of the HTL! Yeah, your DD is so slim, it is amazing her feet are that big, since she is still so young. Bet she will be REALLY tall when she is all grown up!

NM, I just knew you would be so patient and understanding about your computer delay! You are such a sweetie. Your pics were SO funny, except the last one that looks like regurgitated cucumber....lol. I have no idea what beaten cucumber is, either. I think ginger juice is when you shred it and squeeze it, but that would be hard to do....better to see if they sell it that way! Wish I knew how you could trim Sadie's nails, but I have never done that. Get my dogs nails trimmed at their yearly vet visit, which I know isn't soon enough. But they don't mind the vet doing it, as they are already on the table. Maybe if you take her to a place that does that, and you stay with her, it might comfort her. When I had my amazon parrot I would hold him when his avian vet did his nails and beak. BUT of course he loved her, and would "court" her, so he tolerated anything she did. She would also have to totally cover him witha towel and we would have to hold him for her to do the exams, and he hated it, but still loved her! Go figure! When my DD got a old cockatiel recently who didn't even relate to people, I talked to him just like the vet talked to Rico, very loud and animanted and happy, and so he bonded to me right away! I am so glad they took him from the people we bought my parents house from,as he was very neglected and skinny and didn't do anything. In just a few months he has gained weight, is happy and likes to come out and interact with everyone. ANyway, didn't mean to ramble on and on, just wanted to mention that maybe if you  hold onto Sadie when she gets trimmed by someone else, it might work out ok. Good luck! I know it is very important, since she is mostly an inside dog.

Having my large cuppa joe, but would be nice if it had likker in it and whipped cream! Hoping everyone is doing well today. After today or tomorrow, our temps will be really low, and then also might have some snow/ice Mon-Wed.  WEIRD winter this year!!! But thankful we don't have the heavy snow/ice that a lot of you are dealing with right now. Be careful shoveling it, walking on it, and driving in it!!! Very dangerous.

Are we having a BIG PARTAY tonight???? I know the Tattie Tenders and Wenches can put on a party at the drop of a (party) hat!

    Likker Likker, Nothing's Quikker!

Kathy  - DH and I once ordered bananas flambe and got the same story about the flaming in the kitchen. It was obvious that the dish had not been flamed at all as there was no caramelization. I think some people are afraid of fire. I don't know why anyone would be afraid of a little flaming duck...

    he's so cute...

Stanzie - yes, that looks just like my house!

NM - corgis don't like their feet touched either... mine bit the vet when she was a pup. The vet said to keep handling her feet so that she would get over it. I'm not sure how long that takes... she is 12 years old and still nips at me when I touch her feet. I think she can tell I am nervous about cutting her. I bought one of those little grinder things (As Seen On TV) but she is afraid of it and squirms so bad I can't hold her. WD is almost as bad but just isn't as strong. His nails are black which makes it really scary. Ok, here is my solution - DRUM ROLL PLEASE --- I take them to the vet's office and a nurse does it. I'm with you on the groomer - could make it worse.

Ummm, "beaten cucumber"?  you made me blush a little...

put some pants on that cucumber!

Cute "flaming duck"...LOL. Is that your WD furbaby on the vent??? It has been sooooo quiet here today, wonder where everyone is? Might have a partay tonight and no one would show up. Lori? HunkyD? Went off to spend the day with my Mom, and what do I find when I get home?  A note from FedEx, they tried to deliver my laptop today!  The last estimate I saw was Monday so I was going to call them Monday and see if I could get it held at one of the FedEx offices in the town where I work.  Well, they're holding it for me at the local office near where I live, but in the opposite direction from work, so I probably won't be able to get it until NEXT Saturday.  Maybe I can get in that direction earlier in the week, but I did drive right past it going to Mom's today.  Ah, well.  Patience, Grasshoppah.

(Yes, I know it's not stolen!! I just thought this was cute!)

What a bummer, NM! Go figure! They would prob deliver it if you contact them and leave a note saying it is ok, but then it prob wouldn't be good to be out in the cold all day....and also could get taken. AARRGGHHHHHHH......so sorry you have to wait even longer, now. I got frustrated this afternoon too. My mom got both scrolls ready for framing. Well, we got the glass cut a few days ago, and when she had the 1st scroll ready (very involved), and we had the custom frame and I got the glass, we realized it was cut to the wrong size. The place was real nice (it is in the neighboring town), and they brought it out to me yesterday, since it was their error. Go figure that when we took the car to run some errands today, I forgot I had put the glass in the back (14x44), and it fell and BROKE! Shit! And I had already told her I would bring it tomorrow and we could finish it and start hanging things. The other smaller paintings are waiting for us to hang the scrolls first. It isn't that much $, but the place is closed, and looks like pretty bad weather here next week, but I will have to go there and get some more glass. I was so upset,my DH handed me a can of Diet Coke and said...."you need some whiskey"! I guess since they will be going back home in a couple of weeks, every day seems important, and I know she wants to get everything on the walls. On a lighter note, my DH and my dad will watch the SuperBowl together, while my mom and I go shopping, and out to dinner! So there! LOL.

    OK, lets get seriously dwunk!

    Kathy

P.S. Kymn I missed your post, as I was typing at the same time. Sorry to hear about the extra surgery...and we will be praying for totally clear margins! We could even load up the bus and all join you in the hospital. Don't worry, we get really teeeny tiny and no one really can see us....but we will be there to cheer you up and make sure you get the best care!

I'm working on ice tea with rum.  The shipper requires signature at time of delivery, can't do the sign the sticky note from FedEx and leave it on the door for this one. . . . But probably better not to leave it in the cold anyway.

Hi girls....Kymn...hang in there...we are here for ya!  I hope you get the clean margins this time.  Tis nothing to mess around with for sure.  NM...I am sorry about your puter delivery.  Wish you had a closer pick up place.  It does take a while to get things set back up too.  I am not going to spend alot of time with one on one tonight...I am still however giggling about the heat vent.  It isn't really funny but I can see it happening and can't help but laugh.  I so enjoyed this morning being able to lay in bed and not having to get up at the crack of a$$ for work.  Had a nice cup of coffee, and being able to read all the posts I missed.  DH has the nasty cold from hell and I am hoping not to catch it.  Wish I had a cave to go to....LOL!  Tonight, I made pasta, and we are drinking a surprisingly good bottle of Merlot by Blackstone.  It is one of those el cheapo ones but good.  Maybe my alfredo sauce with the wild mushroom agnolotti helped but it was pretty smooth. Stanzie...you were posting pictures today....you were having fun and I could tell.  It is always fun reading stuff everyone posts and looking at all the pictures.  I am extremely guilty of not sharing a lot.  I am just not a very public individual.  Hope you are all having a great Saturday night!  Hoola hoops,  Fruit Loops, and Juicy Fruit!  HD

Oh HD - you share lots of wonderful things!! You sound down, I'm sorry. I was able to post when I can find online images its the other stuff?? Just don't understand that part. But yep you are right I did have fun!

Today was rough. My daughter was invited to a birthday party for two girls which was a dinner dance at a Country Club. It was fancy but my daughter and I battled non-stop all day on what she was going to wear. Finally I just let her do whatever she wanted. I guess it went alright- she did havefun. She is just on the edge of these popular "meanish" girls and it worries me. She isn't that type and isnt' ready for all the  makeup and fancy dresses and boys and such. She is 12! So ... I just feel like such a failure mom when this stuff happens. It can be so hard.

Sorry didn't mean to go into all that... Been cleaning and rearranging for this photo shoot on Monday. Hope it all goes well for my friend. My main problem is I'm ok stuffing all the stuff one has away the problem comes when one actually has to remember when it is all put and hidden..... ugh..

Sorry Karen.  I think the Shiraz was a wise move.

I had a presentation this AM which turned into a good part of the afternoon too.  Finally got out at 3 and then headed over to do some cycling.  Had a great pace as was trying to get back before dusk.  Made it, and did my 20 miles.  Feel ever so much better.

Feeling better is also from the Riesling which I had with some Wiener Schnizl which I made as veal and Reisling were both on sale.  Had trouble with the Riesling prices, but wasn't anything on my end.  They had TWO PRICES posted.  I got the cheaper one.  Columbia Winery and YUM.

Had spinach and leftover sweet potatoes to go with.  The most wonderful meal.

Meeting was worth the time investment, as I think helps me, and will help me help my client.  So glad it all went well.

Still have work to do on my other gig.

Have to pick up my serious wine from the wine club I am a member of.  This is self-funding as I save what the wine costs in bar tabs and individual bottle sales.  So essentially free wine.

    Money well spent.

Hoping everyone is snug, and had a wonderful evening.  See you at the bar tomorrow evening. - Claire

kcuf, it-shay and kcuf again, I just wrote a post and hit a button and lost it. I think BCO has a vendetta against me and Kathy.

I missed you girls, DH and I went to Atlantic City to see a show on Friday and got home late yesterday as we casino hopped. He won enough to cover the cost of the trip and our meals. We saw Levon Helm and it was a great show.  I am so sore from carrying on, clapping, standing, raising my arms and hauling luggage. Poor DH ended up hauling my luggage out since I could not move. I took a muscle relaxer when we got home and zonked out for 10 hours.

Stanzie, I play flute and also piano/keyboard.  I was born with a natural talent and played in a band for about nine years but had to give it up when I started in the mortgage biz nearly 10 years ago. I really miss it.  I do still play now and then and also enjoy playing with myself. I make videos by dubbing over piano with flute.  I am now working on Bella's lullaby which is a beautiful piece.  I just got music last week.  When I am playing, I leave this earth and enter a beautiful place. You must know that feeling when performing.  God Bless you for helping your teachers. It must hurt to see them getting old and frail but I but they enjoy you giving back. Bless you too girl. And don't whoop your own ass over your DD and trying to fit in with the big girls.  You can't blame her. I can really relate as we are living in a very wealthy town and my DD wanted to keep up with the other girls with the pricey clothes, bags and shoes. She found her own in high school and was part of the in crowd.

Claire, do you ever have a bad day?? I wanna be just like you when I grow up.

Ellie,  you bring alot of fun here. I am still laughing at the image of you in bed with the thug hat on your head.  I hope you are doing well with fighting the nico-demon. I have been there and know it is hard.

HD,  like you, I am a private person, I just let it all out here. You need to rant and bitch and let it out, you will feel better.  You have endured alot and I feel for you. Hang in there. And is that really you in your avatar?

NM, I use a groomer and have my dogs nails cut. None of them will let me near them. The groomers do it so easily. If you have Petsmarts in your area, you can take your baby there for a clip and it is not expensive. I used to do that before I got my long haired guy who needs haircuts. Oh, once I tried to clip him myself to save money and my DD was outraged that I did such a horrible job. She said she was embarrassed for him. I told her that he loved his haircut.  I laugh as I picture what I did to that poor guy.  Good luck.

I am going to hit send cuz I just nearly lost this again. I hit something and ended at the top of the page but this time, this was still there. It is hard typing with the numb gnikcfu fingers (that is my Beanism, cursing backwards, thanks Beans!! BRB!

Beans, I live on the SE side of De-Nile. If only I could get my body there. My numb hand is just getting worst, at first it was just two fingers but now it is half of my hand. I can't stand it. My armpits are killing me and I am again having pain on the upper side of my left arm. Damn you BC!   I hope you get stronger with each day girl.

AStorm, your WD story reminded me of a time that I woke up and found my bathrobe partially on my floor.  I went to pick it up and WD crawled into the sleeve.  Gotta love that little dogs!!

Love all the pictures! And Stanzie, I agree with HD, could tell you were so excited about posting pics! And then we have our gals who's minds are in the gutter! LOVE IT!

Kymn, we will all be having a little party in the OR, but we promise to keep it down. Pweeze remind us again when the time gets closer. Most of us have chemo brain, and will forget!

NM, congrats on the wgt loss....you go girl! I have no fur babies so I don't have any suggestions on the nail clipping.

Kathy, I am so sorry to hear about the broken glass L

Karen, City Slickers is my DH's FAVORITE movie. We have it on our DVR, protected no less. He puts it on almost every night to go to sleep to! It annoys the he!! outta me, and keeps me up. So I wait for him to fall asleep before I go in and can change the channel.

Lets all have a Juicy Fruit Cocktail and Fruity Loopy!

    • 1/2 oz Peach Schnapps
    • 1/2 oz Midori® Melon Liqueur

Good morning, Loungettes!  Broke my shovel clearing 4 inches of ice and slush on the back deck.  Hoping I've got another one in the basement--I had 3 at the beginning of the winter, but I think one of those broke, too.  There's a 1/4 inch coating of ice all over everything--beautiful, but eerie to hear the tree branches clicking against each other in the wind gusts.  But the sun is shining, the sun porch is warm and I've already swept and washed floor out there.  Can't wait to sit out there and read the afternoon away.  Gotta get some more housework done first, though. And maybe one of these:

I see the Tenders and Wenches have decided to go the unusual route with the Sunday Buffet--italian food!  Yum!

    DOTD:  Broken Shovel

    1 oz Blue Ice Vodka

    2 oz Baileys Irish Cream

    crushed ice

omg, the Italian buffet was delishiouso!  thanks NM!  I would not need to play with myself if I had this kind of breakfast everyday!

Kymn, the girls are right, we will keep the noise down while we ensure that all goes well with your surgery.  They were in the room with me when I had my last one and it made it so much easier.  The bus is so luxourisous, I never miss a chance to ride the HTL bus.  I will be praying for you that all goes well and that this is your last surgery.

    Kathy, sorry about your shovel.

Blondie, last sunday, my DH, DD's boyfriend and exhub tackled getting my DD's car dug out.  Two guys up the street came by with shovels and helped too. I could not believe it but they got the car out. Cheers to those neighbors, I do not even know them.

Here is a short video of me in my girl cave playing with myself.  It is very amature and the first verse is very shaky but I really enjoyed doing this. I played the piano piece first then dubbed with my flute.  And KCUF, I just realized that with this numb fn hand, I may not be able to play.

I have a better version on my facebook but not sure if that will post here. This is me, very rusty but nonetheless, I played my heart out!

Stanzie...my youngest DD is 12 too.....the only "fancy" b'day parties she has been invited to are Bat Mitzvah parties and most have not been over the top.....she has two groups of friends...her school friends and her synagogue friends and for the most part all are nice girls with parents that think more or less like I do....I don't know all her school friends or parents, but ones I know have similar values and are involved with their kids....I have no use for "mean" girls.....it makes me crazy as a mom as as a school psych....my older DD struggled with being bullied almost all through school and it wasn't till college that she made some good close friendships....

The snow we have gotten over the past day or two has been the heavy wet snow.....we have a really old shovel that I love because it will scrape through the bottom and it is small so not heavy for me....we have one of those with the curved handles that I don't really like and then this great big board type thing that DH loves because it pushes the snow....

invited to a superbowl party but not sure that we will go...it was a strange invite, but if we do, we'll just stop by for a bit.....I only watch for the commericals.....and the 1/2 time show when its a favorite...but not sure about "Black Eyed Peas"...don't really know their music or if I do, can't remember their songs!!!!

DD wants to go to the mall today....hopefully she can find a friend who can go...if not, I'll take her if she still wants to go and bring my ipod and people watch....sometimes she doesn't mind shopping by herself...

Goldie...I think my DH favorite line is the opening one when Billy Crystal's mother calls him for his b'day...

Dorothy....I played flute in high school and baritone sax....my flute is on the floor next to the piano (that I don't know how to play but it was my grandmothers and couldn't think of not having it...older DD played for 8 years)....don't think I know how to read music anymore....actually I was never that good...tone deaf and have no ryhthm.....

We also use a dog groomer....its my DS good friend.....she gives us a good rate and does a great job.....her mother owned the shop and gave it to her...her mom thought she was too old to keep doing it anymore (and the mom is younger than me!!!)....We had Bear's nails trimmed and had him groomed just before DS left for Hawaii....I guess DS will tell us when its time to bring Bear back in....

Claire.....sounds like your consulting is really taking off.....

Okay.....can't remember what everyone else wrote....maybe I need to start taking notes!!!!

Wishing everyone a good day...stay warm and dry.....

Dorothy, OMG that was AWESOME!!! I got goose-bumps listening to it. You did such a good job, and with some numbness even. IFyou are up to it, how bout playing this morning during our buffet/ mimosa fountain/ percotini fountain indulgence? Thank you SO much for sharing that!!!! I caught that line too, like Lori did, about "playing with myself", altho in that context we realized you meant "music". OR were you making sweet music with yourself? NAH, just kidding on that one! Neat to see part of your "woman cave".  You are such a delight to have here at the HTL. Way to go, Dorothy!!!!! I love your swearing, "beanglish style"! Oh, but that is NM that broke her shovel. Today will be in the 50's b4 we get low temps and snow/ice during the week, so I will be doing some outside painting at the townhouse. We close on it on Wed (weather permitting), and then I need to get my butt in gear and do the finishing touches b4 listing it for rent. And they BETTER take care of it...LOL. Since its been empty since July when we got the lake house for my parents, we have been doing bits and pieces there (and new kitchen floor), so not really too much left to do.

NM, OH, your pics were GOOD! Love the shovel idea! And those italian hunks...ooh lah lah! And the yummy drink! Puleez don't hurt yourself getting that ice broken up. Does rock salt help? Shall we send "Hunk" over to help you? He feels he is not needed, since we only mention Pants and Jocks, so I am sure he will be willing and able!

Lori, Oh you are a dear for remembering to put whipped cream on my drinks! Wish I wasn't such a sugarholic and chocoholic, but it is what it is. I can do without salt and chips, etc.....but give me my sweets!!!!

Dee, Are you around here? Hoping you are back home and recovering well from that surgery. We miss you a LOT!!!

Junie, Hope your PT isn't too hard, and you are getting stronger every day! Miss you too, but glad you have been able to post some.

Stanzie, Raising kids is HARD work!!! You are doing a good job though. None of us is perfect, as you will find out when they are grown and tell you all the things you didn't realize that you did wrong...LOL. But we do the best we can do. I love it now when my kids mention the really neat things I did with them and how they appreciated a lot of things, esp now that they have families of their own! I spent a lot of time with them, and that is what is remembered the most, not how much money you spend on them. Stay strong!!!!

To everyone here, you are so special to me, and I really enjoy all the times we spend at the HTL. The posts are awesome, and give me a lot of laffs. Glad that Dorothy spends so much time in the chapel praying for all of us, as we can sure use all the prayers! Thank you, Dorothy! Raising my mimosa glass to all of my breast friends here!!!!!

    ChEARS! Chairs! TITZ UP!

    Kathy

Karen, Missed your post as it took me soooo long to post! I am taping the SuperBowl so can just watch the entertainment! I love the Black Eyed Peas, esp Fergie! Hope you will like their music. Glad though that my mom and I will shop and eat out and not have to watch it with DH and my Dad. Usually it is not so crowded shopping while a big game is on! Ciao!

Dorothy- Oh that was just lovely. Thank you so much for sharing! Yes I totally agree music does take you away from all the bad and saddness of life. I guess it is hard if not impossible to sing if you are sad - just doesn't work or it cures the saddness. My music teachers even though their health has given them challenges they are still two of the most elegant and brilliant people ever. I could just sit and listen to them talk forver in fact sometimes I do. Once after taking them home from choir (ending at 9:00) when I got home it was after 2:30am! Yes they are total night owls and both thing morning starts around noon!

Well my daughter did have fun last night - Whew! I was worried. Did I aready say this? I'm not going to scroll up again cause I keep losing my posts too!

Love the shovel and I knew there was somthing I liked about Italian food!

Oh Dorothy, tell me about Atlantic City? How is it now. My Grandparents on my Dad's side lived in Atlantic City and later in Absecon. He used to be the manager of the Old Chalfont Haddon Hall Hotel which is now Resort's International. He was also Atlantic City's historian and heavily involved in the Miss America pagent. My half-brother and cousin and I have been trying to get together to try and piece together how much he might have been involved in all the Nucky Johnson stuff. Very interesting. Unfortunantly a huge amount of his collection which was supposed to have gone tot he Historical Society was pawned by the wife of my late uncle and some taken by his children which turned ugly and is a loss. But it is all very interesting. I remember going up as a child and playing in the Hotel and the Piers and later going to the Pagent. It was all fun then.

NM- so you are shoveling off 4 inches of snow so you can later sit outside and read? I get shoveling the snow but Isn't cold still a problem in this senario?

Wow, go Claire!! I'm thinking I need to look into those wine clubs!!!

All you wine connssories ( that cannot be spelled right but it didn't come up to correct) I want to have friends over for dinner who really know wine and I mean really know wine . Can anyone suggest a good wine to go with a Crab Imperial? That is crab with a cream sauce - very rich. I was thinking of serving this with a salad ( maybe one with roasted pears and blue cheese and pecans or something with roasted beets ?) and rice and having some kind of appetizer not too heavy  before hand and finish with Rum pie. So any wine suggestions which won't " break the bank"?

I'm always terribly nervous about having people over for dinner. I made the Crab a couple of months ago and froze it . My mom used to freeze this and it always worked but can't remember how long she would freeze it for. I wish I had written the date on it.... not terribly organized these days.

Well, shoot it is already late and haven't gotten a thing done so better run...

Stanzie, DO NOT WORRY about having people over for dinner, as you are the hostess with the mostess! The dinner you prepared for me and my DH and your cousin was better than superb! I could not have done it that well. You are an excellent cook, great entertainer, and fantastic person, so cook your wonderful food, and then relax,as I know it will go very well. As far as wine, I will leave that suggestion to Claire and our other experts here. Jaybird knows a lot too, so maybe she will stop in and give her suggestions. And that rum pie sounds delicious....if it isn't a hard recipe, would you mind sharing it? OR shall we all just invite ourselves over...LOL. Just kidding. But I know it will be a wonderful evening!

Thanks for the good words in the consulting.  Hoping so.

Just got back from church, and got to tease one of my friends who is being ordained on the 15th that I will be able to call her "The Rev".

Dorothy.....not that I am always happy, but I am so aware of how lucky I really am.  I am thrilled to be here.  Having said this, I did have a number of frustrating work days in the past month.

Major learning from my meeting yesterday (brain cancer advocacy group) is how the best most these brain cancer patients can expect is a couple more years of quality time before the end.  (Type of cancer Ted Kennedy had.)  One of the top surgeons in the country spoke to us.  His take is that while it certainly is depressing to have most of his patients die, he is so gratified to be able to give them more quality time on this earth.

So very different from what most of us are experiencing.  Yes, we are worried, but most of us will be just fine.  (The neck soreness that kept me awake me last night until I slathered myself with Aspercreme has nothing to do with breast cancer treatment, unless you count exercise.)

The work this surgeon is doing is around genetic testing and personalized treatment.  Just such a new field, and where I believe treatment for all types of cancer is headed.

So a very exciting time, and certainly will be good news for the next generation of BC patients.  I don't see the major breakthrough for a few years though.

Meanwhile, I am going back to living well is the best revenge.

I have wonderful friends, interesting work, enough money to live reasonably well, my wits about me, am able to ski and cycle, and have landed on my feet following active treatment.  I have someone terrific in my life.  I have so much to celebrate on Wednesday, my birthday.

Plenty of stuff that annoys me:  AARP invites, because I don't want to admit I am in that age group; wrong-headed "advice" that could prove dangerous if I followed it; rework, because someone else didn't give me what I needed; getting soaked to the skin; the press who do their best to fuel a national "pity me" point of view.

This is all minor......life is really, really wonderful.

I am sitting out the Super Bowl in the lounge this afternoon.  That is, after my ride, but am waiting for the rain to move on before heading out.  (See note on getting soaked to the skin above.)

Wishing everyone the most fab Super Bowl Sunday!!! - Claire
