Fun and games at the surgeon's office today--100cc removed from the right side and 40cc removed from the left! It didn't hurt and, as an added bonus, got every other staple removed. I still have to wear these darn compression bandages indefinitely. By the end of the day, they are so uncomfortable!
I won't be returning to work on Monday, as my Disability Council had originally planned. The doctor thinks I still need a bit more time and I'm not arguing!
All in all, the whole experience has not been bad at all, so far. I really haven't had much pain, just more discomfort than anything. The bandages are probably the worst of my issues.
I have an appointment with my oncologist next week. I'm assuming that's where I'll learn "the plan"...

Vanmama, so glad it didn't hurt. You must have a really good surgeon. Take all the rest opportunities you can get. Good luck with your oncology appointment. Crossing my fingers you get the best possible news.

It has been eons since I have been here and that, I hope, is encouraging. I do stop in every so many months and when I saw your post, Tryler, and I had to chime in. I had surgery at Evanston Hospital and my surgeon is Dr. Yao. I was (am???) stage 3 and had a lumpectomy (Evanston Hospital) and radiation (Glenbrook) and chemo (Highland Park). This was like 8 years ago
Dr Yao is wonderful. I still get annual mri's and mammograms at Glenbrook. I live in Northbrook. Just wanted you to know that all health care here has been good for me. I am 66 years. Cancer seems so far away for me, but I know it can hit again at any time. I feel so lucky to have such great health care professionals. I wish you well!Susan

This time last year, my world was beginning to unravel. Got the phone call about closing time from the imaging department telling me my mammogram showed an area aof concern and that I would need to book an ultrasound.......I didn't even give it a second thought that it could be anything.......

Redheaded.....It is still warm in Florida. I golfed today and we had an early tee time. It was cool when we started but it is now76 degrees and I am loving it. How are YOU feeling? Is the dizziness gone? I see where you mentioned bowling. Do you bowl on a team regularly. I love to bowl. We bowled for several years on a couples' league on Sunday night at Pheasant Lanes until we started to come south in the winter and then it became a nightmare to find subs so we quit. I still bowl on Tuesday mornings on a coffee league. You have indeed had a roller coaster year....but you braved the storm and now have lots of good things ahead of you! :-)

Rita I bowl on Monday nights in a mixed league called "Countrytime". Started out in a ladies league and our numbers dwindled, and we went to 4 person teams, then Pheasant Lane said we were so small they didn't want us, I guess, and the mixed league that bowled the same night said they would let us in with them. So we merged (and lost more women's teams, who didn't want to bowl with guys...). So now, I am part of the ONLY all women team in our league. I"m not that great of a bowler, but I love doing it. It's a fun night out.
Vanmama, thank you for thinking of me. This time a year ago, dr. Davis at osf college ave. was doing my core biopsy--what a wonderful radiologist. You will be amazed at the strength you find inside yourself on this "journey" (I hate they call it that, it's not like its a trip you'd plan, but fasten y our seat belt, cause the plane is taking off). I'm not sure now that there is anything I can't withstand.....just remember every storm runs out of rain, so put your face into the wind and plant your feet and stare it down and wait it out.

Beautiful day in sunny Florida. We did some fresh water fishing today but didn't catch anything big enough to keep. It was still fun!
Now we'e off to a dinner buffet and 50's/ 60's dance.
It looks like more snow is coming into Illinois this weekend. Travel safely in that stuff!

Good Morning,
It is not a good one here as we are having a lot of rain. I do know that the Chicago area is getting bad weather for sure. As today is Super Bowl I sure wish that weren't so. We will be fine till tonight and then some spotty freezing will take place. Tomorrow will be our problem. I'm not much for gray and rain, but getting snow now wouldn't be pleasing either. We have spent the better part of our winter without -- only getting what we got for the yr. quite early --- twice around Thanksgiving.

Woke up to snow--beautiful to look at from the windows. Still coming down and is expected to until 9pm tonight. Maybe 3 inches now.but filling in. My snow remover guy came about 7 and I can barely see the edges where he blew me out. Lots of church cancellations, especially in rural areas. I went to 4pm Mass last night and we had a standing room crowd.

Thanks for responding .. I'm thinking about getting a second opinion out of Rush University in Chicago. One of my favorite Dr.'s is ot of there who has been a God sent to ke Dr. Jaycox. I feel being at a teaching hospital would he the best. I just don't want backlash from my oncologists office. Sounds stupid but for some reason i'm a whimp when it comes to Dr.'s. Strange since I am tough as nails with everything else. I guess being vulnerable is what is so hard. Im currently going to chemo every monday . Thanks again.. I not one to reach out and talk to people but unless yoy have or are going thru it no one has a clue.

DSW I was treated at Rush. My oncologist is Dr. Cobleigh. Her area of research is HER2+. She was the lead oncologist with Dr. Salmon when they did trials on Herceptin back before 2009 on metastatic patients. Lots of folks go to her for 2nd opinions too. Check out the video tab too: linky

Tryler I am in the norther suburbs too. I went to University of Chicago for my surgeries but I went to Lake Forest Hospital for my radiation and use North Shore Oncology for chemo, which was actually coordinated with my U of C oncologist.
DSW, no doctor should feel offended by a second opinion and I doubt they will. Go ahead and go where you would like. The teaching hospitals see more patients, more unusual patients, and sometimes they do have a varying opinion and you have the right to that. And if they don't, then a confirmation that helps you rest easier. Go for it!
I think I'm going to miss my superbowl party with all this snow!

Can anyone tell me if there is a North shore support group? I received info of one in Evanston but that's a bit far for me to travel. I am in Glenview.

Check out the Cancer Wellness Center in Northbrook. Support groups, counseling, yoga, and many other classes and programs.
