Love the lists.
BTW I do read regularly but very busy with work this season so don't post a lot.
Yay doxie.
My hips have actually increased density although only osteopenic. Spine decrease so little that they consider it stable… but that's on Prolia! And I know Dr. C wants me to stay on this another 5 years unless the studies come out with no benefit. So far no news.0 -
Lago, I love Sun Wah--especially their duck. The owner of the nail salon I use brought her T'giving turkey to them and they roasted it Cantonese-style just like their ducks. We also go to B'way Cellars quite often, at least once a week (any wine-centric restaurant that we can walk to instead of drive is fine by us). How are you tolerating Prolia? Do you think it’s what’s been keeping your osteopenia from progressing? My PCP is not a fan of bone-strengthening meds and says that weightbearing exercise is more effective than mineral supplementation.
Today my former (and, I hope, once again future) castmates from the Bar Show sent me a lovely holiday flower arrangement and a box of chocolates! DH and I are going tomorrow night after some shopping at the Christkindlmarkt at the Daley Ctr. He wants to do most of his shopping at Barnes & Noble on Sunday, though--after the Bears of course.
The holidays are sneaking up soooo fast! Hanukkah is Sun. night--the electric menorah and “Happy Hanukkah" sign in the front room window are up and ready to plug in. Love to confuse the neighbors, as we also decorate the door with silver lamé, red ribbon and an illuminated wreath. If I get myself in gear I can actually send out cards before the cruise--most years I've been too busy with the show!

ChiSandy I was doing all the weight bearing exercise. I have a family history of osteoporosis as well as Caucasian, small frame, osteopenic before chemo, former smoker… I am like the poster gal for risk. Yes I do believe it has helped slow it down as my power walking too. I will only be on Prolia for 3 years till I have to take a break. Not sure how long the break is. I do believe it has helped the hip increase.
Channukah! Hmm maybe I'll make those chili head latkes. I have yet to try this recipe.
We will definitely have to do Sun Wah. I also love the hot/sour soup and shrimp noodle dumpling soup.

Your life and my life flow into each other as wave flows into
wave, and unless there is peace and joy and freedom for you,
there can be no real peace or joy or freedom for me. To see
reality—not as we expect it to be but as it is—is to see that
unless we live for each other and in and through each other,
we do not really live very satisfactorily; that there can really
be life only where there really is, in just this sense, love.

Hi Navy Mom....so good to see a post from you! :-) Are you headed back to Florida anytime soon?
Redhead and Jackie....love your lists. I've been a bit down lately, too. I have to be retested this next week because my last blood test came back with slightly elevated calcium in the liver which caused a major panic attack. Am hoping beyond hope that the counts are back into the normal range when I have this next test. Maybe I should compose a list, too! Usually I'm pretty upbeat as I love so many different things...bowling, golfing, spending time with friends, reading, composing scholastic bowl questions, shopping making a new recipe that actually turns out good, watching my cats play, sunshine, walking on a beach and listening to the tide, walking, nature, playing cards, visiting the casino, eating....wow! I could just keep going on and on.
Hugs to all of you as you prepare for the holiday season!

Lago, any side effects from the Prolia?
Sun Wah sounds great. When I get back from my cruise, that duck’ll be right up my low-carb alley.

ritajean,
Lets hope your blood test comes back normal. Did you maybe eat extra calcium before the test? I know with the DEXA they want you to not take calcium pills before it.

ChiSandy I have no SE from Prolia. I mean none even after the 1st one. They say the SE can be worse on the 1st one but I had 0.

Hi Doxie,
I don't take a calcium supplement and didn't think that I'd eaten anything with lots of calcium before the test, but it might be a good idea to really limit calcium until after I have it retested. Thank for the suggestion. I'm really ready to try anything.
Today is Bunco day. Twelve crazy women get together, throw dice, laugh continously and pig out on the great snacks! Sometimes you even get a surprise and actually win!!!!
Everyone have a great day!

Rita my calcium tested high once too. I did take a calcium pill before the test AND a diuretic. My PCP wasn't worried because she new that's what the issue was. Tested normal after that one time

Thanks Lago for the encouraging words. I go back Monday to have it retested and then it will probably take another week to get the results.

Rita I know the endocrinologist that order the test said I might have celiac. Went to my Gastro guy and he said doubtful. Glad I waited before I did another throat cam. Had one done in 2007 and no sign of it that's why he said it was doubtful.

The universe does not favor the greedy, the dishonest, the vicious, although on the mere surface it may sometimes appear to do so; it helps the honest, the magnanimous, the virtuous. All the great teachers of the ages have declared this in varying forms, and to prove and know it a person has but to persist in making him or herself more and more virtuous by lifting up his or her thoughts. -James Allen

Hi, I thought I should introduce my self as I'm new and in IL. I live in the Western Suburbs of Chicago. My name is Amy and I just turned 50 a few weeks ago (had my core needle biopsy on my birthday.. welcome to 50!) I haven't had surgery yet so I don't know my stage, but my dx was IDC grade 1, ER+ PR+ HER2 -. I had a MRI monday and found out today I have to have another biopsy, this time MRI guided next wed. After all my tests are done, I go back to the surgeon with my surgical decision and book the date.

Gemma12,
Welcome to our little group. Sorry BC has brought you here. There are several of our gals in the Western subburbs. Hopefully they will drop in. We areherefor you.
My birthday gift was the postitive diagnosis. My BS promised to call me on my birthday if I had no cancer. Even though he had the results, no call came and the rest of the story is below.

Welcome Amy. I was diagnosed at 49. Finished chemo 2 weeks before my 50th birthday. MRI's can find a lot of stuff that might not be cancer. My MRI showed 3 suspicious spots in the other breast. 2 were cysts and one was LCIS (precancer). So don't worry. They check every internal pimple now that you've been diagnosed.

Welcome Amy,
Like the others, this is not the greatest way to meet, but it is a wonderful place for good company who understand "what" its like and twists and turns in the journey's road that may come. Hoping for a really easy path for you. I usually only contribute a quote everyday for the enjoyment of all who stop by here. It is a joy to me and keeps me feeling that I can still help, even though my diagnosis was some time ago.
Hmmm, my diagnosis came right after my birthday --- is it something about time's passage ???? No it is just how the cookie crumbles, as they say.
Blessings
Jackie

Time is an equal opportunity employer. Each human being has exactly the same number of hours and minutes every day. Rich people can't buy more hours. Scientists can't invent new minutes. And you can't save time to spend it on another day. Even so, time is amazingly fair and forgiving. No matter how much time you've wasted in the past, you still have an entire tomorrow. Success depends upon using it wisely—by planning and setting priorities. -Denis Waitely

Welcome Amy! There are many wonderful women on this thread that you stand by you every step of the way. Several are from your general area and can help answer any questions you might have. There have been many of us who were diagnosed in our 50's. Check in often and let us know your treatment plan when it is decided! Hugs to you!
Lago, I know that I am gluten sensitive but don't believe that I am celiac because I can cheat every so often with the gluten and get by with it! If I cheat several days in a row, I pay the price.
We have a Christmas celebration tonight in Pekin with two of the gals that I taught with and their hubbies. It is always lots of fun to spend quality time with them and I am looking forward to it. Since we live in three different towns, we meet in Pekin which is mid-way! Thiis year I am pretty much finished with the Christmas obligations and can really enjoy just relaxing with good friends. We have two more evening dinners this week also. Tis the season!

Courage begins when we can admit that there is no life without some pain, some frustration; that there is no tragic accident to which we are immune; and that beyond the normal exercise of prudence we can do nothing about it. But courage goes on to see that the triumph of life is not in pains avoided, but in joys lived completely in the moment of their happening. Courage lies in never taking so much as a good meal or a day of health and fair weather for granted. It lies in learning to be aware of our moments of happiness as sharply as our moments of pain. We need not be afraid to weep when we have cause to weep, so long as we can really rejoice at every cause for rejoicing. -Victoria Lincoln
