Success isn't measured by the position you reach in life; it's measured by the obstacles you overcome.

Nature made us individuals, as she did the flowers and the pebbles; but we are afraid to be peculiar, and so our society resembles a bag of marbles, or a string of mold candles. Why should we all dress after the same fashion? The frost never paints my windows twice alike.

There is never really anything to be discouraged about, because difficulties are opportunities for inner growth, and the greater the difficulty, the greater the opportunity for growth.

"Don't be too hard on yourself. There are plenty of people willing to do that for you. Love yourself and be proud of everything that you do. Even mistakes mean you're trying."

Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature--the assurance. that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.

You wake up in the morning, and lo! your purse is magically filled with twenty-four hours of the unmanufactured tissue of the universe of your life. It is yours. It is the most precious of possessions. No one can take it from you. It is unstealable. And no one receives either more or less than you receive.

Within sorrow is grace. When we come close to those things that
break us down, we touch those things that also break us open.
And in that breaking open, we uncover our true nature.

We are all citizens of one world, we are all of one blood. To hate people because they were born in another country, because they speak a different language, or because they take a different view on this subject or that, is a great folly. Desist, I implore you, for we are all equally human. . . . Let us have but one end in view: the welfare of humanity.

There comes a day when you realize turning the page is the best feeling in the world, because you realize there is so much more to the book then the page you were stuck on.

It is our own pain, and our own desire to be free of it, that alerts us to the suffering of the world. It is our personal discovery that pain can be acknowledged, even held lovingly, that enables us to look at the pain around us unflinchingly and feel compassion being born in us. We need to start with ourselves.

What we say and what we do ultimately come back to us, so
let us own our responsibility, place it in our hands,
and carry it with dignity and strength.

We are all born with a belief in God. It may not have a name or face. We may not even see it as God. But it is there. It is the sense that comes over us as we stare into the starlit sky, or watch the last fiery rays of an evening sunset. It is the morning shiver as we wake on a beautiful day and smell a richness in the air that we know and love from somewhere we can't quite recall. It is the mystery behind the beginning of time and beyond the limits of space. It is a sense of otherness that brings alive something deep in our hearts.

When we are aware that each moment of each day, each gesture and step we take, is truly mystical and full of wonder, we will live our lives with greater thought and care. We will also have greater respect and appreciation for the lives of others.

Karma is simply the law of cause and effect. If you plant an apple seed, you don't a get a mango tree. If we practice hatred or greed, it becomes our way and the world responds accordingly. If we practice awareness or loving-kindness, it becomes our way and the world responds accordingly. We are heirs to the results of our actions, to the intentions we bring to every moment we initiate. We make ripples upon the ocean of the universe through our very presence.

When your inner eyes open, you can find immense beauty hidden within the inconsequential details of daily life. When your inner ears open, you can hear the subtle, lovely music of the universe everywhere you go.

One ship drives east and another west,
    With the self-same winds that blow;
'Tis the set of the sails and not the gales
    That determines where they go.
Like the winds of the sea are the ways of fate,
    As we voyage along through life;
'Tis the set of a soul that decides its goal--
And not the calm or the strife.

Be of good cheer. Do not think of today's failures, but of the success that may come tomorrow. You have set yourselves a difficult task, but you will succeed if you persevere; and you will find a joy in overcoming obstacles. Remember, no effort that we make to attain something beautiful is ever lost. - Helen Keller

Over the years I have come to believe that life is

full of unchosen circumstances, that being human
has to do with the evolution of our individual
consciousness and with it, responsibilities for choice.
Pain and joy both come with life.I believe that how
we respond to what happens to us and around us shapes
who we become and has to do with the psyche or the soul's growth.

Follow the wisdom provided by nature. Everything in moderation--
sunlight, water, nutrients. Too much of a good thing will topple
your structure. You can't harvest what you don't sow. So plant your
desires, gently nurture them, and they will be rewarded
    with abundance.

I know that my thoughts help create my experiences. Thinking
positive thoughts about myself helps me to do and be my best always.

The same is true of my relationships. If I am thinking the best about
my family and friends, I bring the best to my relationships with them.

The very best thoughts I can think are God-centered thoughts
of love, acceptance, and forgiveness. So I don't think less of
friends and loved ones than what is true about them: They
are children of God who deserve to be thought of with
true, honorable, just, and positive thoughts.

My loving, patient thoughts create loving, long-lasting relationships.

Joy is what we are, not what we must get.

Joy is the realization that all we want or need in life
has been etched into our souls.
Joy helps us see not what we are "going through,"
but what we are "growing to"--a greater sense of
    understanding, accomplishment, and enlightenment.
Joy reveals to us the calm at the end of the storm,
the peace that surpasses the momentary happiness of pleasure.
If we keep our minds centered on joy, joy becomes a state of mind.

Wholehearted living is about engaging in our lives from a place of worthiness. It means cultivating the courage, compassion, and connection to wake up in the morning and think, No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough. It's going to bed at night thinking, Yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable and sometimes afraid, but that doesn't change the truth that I am also brave and worthy of love and belonging.

    Brené Brown
