When we don't take life slowly, piece by piece, we avoid the greatest discovery of all, the person within. When our attention to persons, places, things is deliberate and steady, the beauty within the object of our focus shines forth, and we, too, are made more beautiful in the process. - unattributed

We in the West don't think much in terms of balance, and obviously we should. Even the very thought of an exquisite union and balance of all our forces, both physical and mental, has a gentle, hopeful ring to it. . . . All of us must find a bridge between our physical and spiritual parts. When that balance is achieved, what a happy comfort for ourselves!

Not only is there often a right and wrong, but what goes around does
come around, Karma exists, chickens do come home to roost, and
as my mother, Phyllis, liked to say, "There is always a day of reckoning."
The good among the great understand that every choice we make adds to
the strength or weakness of our spirits—ourselves, or to use an old
fashioned word for the same idea, our souls. That is every human's life
work: to construct an identity bit by bit, to walk a path step by step,
to live a life that is worthy of something higher, lighter, more
    fulfilling, and maybe even everlasting.

A single act of kindness may have a long trajectory and touch those we will never meet or see. Something that we casually offer may move through a web of connection far beyond ourselves to have effects that we may have never imagined. And so each of us may have left far more behind us than we may ever know.

Keep in mind that you were created by God and then that mold was broken. No one else is like you. You're unique. You're special. It's all right to be you. Don't let others shape you—what you do, say, or think. That's God's task. He started with you and he will finish with you. And he really does want you to be you. -H. Norman Wright

The perfume of sandalwood, the scent of bay leaf and jasmine, travel only as far as the wind. But the fragrance of goodness travels with us through all the worlds. Like garlands woven from flowers, fashion your life as a garland of beautiful deeds. -the Buddha

It's not how much you accomplish in life that really counts, but how much you give to others. It's not how high you build your dreams that makes a difference, but how high your faith can climb. It's not how many goals you reach, but how many lives you touch. It's not whom you know that matters, but who your are inside. Believe in the impossible, hold tight to the incredible, and live each day to its fullest potential. You can make a difference in your world. - Rebecca Barlow Jordan

Worrying is carrying tomorrow's load with today's strength--carrying two days at once. It is moving into tomorrow ahead of time. Worrying doesn't empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.

If something comes up that you wish would go away, accept that it has
come for a reason and consider how you can benefit from the experience.
How is this situation stimulating you to grow in ways that you would not
have grown had it not come forth? Is there an unseen opportunity here?
Are you being guided to make a course correction that will ultimately
improve your life? Every difficulty comes with a gift in its hands. It remains
a problem until you accept the gift. Upon receiving the gift, the situation is
transformed and it may resolve easily or even miraculously. Do your best
to hold challenges in a higher light and do not lose sight of the many
blessings in your life. The challenge occupies but a sector of your
experience. There is much more to your life than this situation.

Today, really look around at your world—your family, your home, your pets, your co-workers, and the strangers on the street. Smile at everyone you meet because you can see them. Never forget that the gift of vision was so important that when God created the world, the first command was for Light in order to see, and after the Great Creator was finished with each day's task, He glanced back on his handiwork and "saw that it was good." We need to see how good it is, too. - Sarah Ban Breathnach

Patience is learning how to wait when you really don't want to. It's

discovering things you like to do while you're waiting, and becoming
so happy with. . . what you're doing that you
    forget you're waiting.
Patience is taking time every day
to dream your dreams and develop
    the confidence in yourself
to change your dreams into reality. Patience
    is being good to yourself
and having the faith to hold on to your dreams,
even as days go by when you can't see
    how they will come true.

    Patience is loving others
even when they disappoint you and you don't
    understand them.
It's knowing how to let go and accept others as they
    are
and forgive them for things they have done. Patience is loving
yourself and giving yourself time to grow; it's doing things that keep you
healthy and happy, and it's knowing that you deserve the best in life
and are willing to work for it, no matter how long it takes.

Patience is being willing to face whatever challenges life gives you,
realizing that life has also given you the strength and courage to endure
and deal with each challenge. Patience is the ability to continue to love
and laugh no matter what your circumstances may be, because you
recognize that in time those circumstances will change, and that love
and laughter are what give life deeper meaning, and you the
determination to continue to have patience.

If people only knew the healing power of laughter and joy, many of our find doctors would be out of business. Joy is one of nature's greatest medicines. Joy is always healthy. A pleasant state of mind tends to bring abnormal conditions back to normal. - Catherine Ponder

We may think that happiness is a result of happy circumstances. A more mature view of happiness is that it is a by-product of sharing our good and serving others. It is a sense of doing a job well, honest communication with another, visiting someone who may be ill, or sharing a sense of humor. Happiness is a spiritual principle that we can lay hold of and use, regardless of outer conditions or circumstances.

It isn't necessary to wait for circumstances to bring happiness. When we try to give it to others, it returns to us multiplied. We can make our own joy, and let it act upon circumstances! One of the great paradoxes of truth is that a happy heart draws to itself what it needs for happiness.

Passion doesn't come from business or books or even a connection with another person. It is a connection to your own life force, the world around you and the spirit that connects us all. You are the source. Books, work, music, people, sunsets all provide sparks, but only you can light the fire.

People of virtue think beyond personal interests and consider how their actions affect the whole. They are less concerned with what they can get for themselves, and more concerned with how they can contribute to the community.

When our spirit tells us it is time to weep, we should weep. It is part of the ritual, if you will, of putting sadness in perspective and gaining control of the situation. . . . Grief has a purpose. Grieving does not mean you are weak It is the first step toward regaining balance and strength. Grieving is part of the tempering process.

There are two big forces at work, external and internal. We have very little control over external forces such as tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, disasters, illness, and pain. What really matters is the internal force. How do I respond to those disasters? Over that I have complete control. - Leo Buscaglia

I believe that to pray without ceasing means to think good thoughts without ceasing. I believe that the art of meditation is letting God speak to me. Each day I shall endeavor to find time to be still and listen. I believe that by making my life an open door to the Infinite, limitless power will flow into my life, giving me energy, ideas, wisdom and guidance to multiply my capacity to build and serve. - Wilferd A. Magic exists. Who can doubt it, when there are rainbows and wildflowers, the music of the wind and the silence of the stars? Anyone who has loved has been touched by magic. It is such a simple and such an extraordinary part of the lives we live.

Life is short. Each year passes more quickly than the previous one. It's easy to deny yourself many of life's simple pleasures because you want to be practical. Forget about practical and decide instead to be a joy collector. Always be on the lookout for gifts without ribbons. God is strewing them across your path right now. His gifts come tagged with a note: "Life can be wonderful. Do your best not to miss it!" Enjoy what is before it isn't anymore. - Barbara Johnson

Being successful means more—so much more—to me than being at the top in the business field or in financial circles. That rush of feeling successful comes from a genuine, heartfelt belief in and an understanding of my own sacredness. Giving 100 percent of myself means that I allow the spirit of God to guide me in important as well as everyday matters. Then I will succeed at being the best I can be. The rewards of having given something as valuable as love and kindness leave me feeling good about myself and what I have done. -unattributed

I believe that in our constant search for security we can never gain any peace of mind until we secure our own soul. And this I do believe above all, especially in my times of greatest discouragement, that I must believe—that I must believe in my fellow human—that I must believe in myself—that I must believe in God—if life is to have any meaning. -Margaret Chase Smith

Join the great company of those who make the barren places

of life fruitful with kindness. Carry a vision of heaven in your
hearts, and you shall make your name, your college, the world,
correspond to that vision. Your success and happiness lie
within you. External conditions are the accidents of life, its
outer wrappings. The great, enduring realities are love and
service. Joy is the holy fire that keeps our purpose warm and
our intelligence aglow. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy
and you shall form an invincible host against difficulty.

Real wealth does not depend on worldly status or a bank balance. It is available in the sweeping cloud formations above you, the soft grass under your bare feet, the light in your children's eyes, and your funny cat. If we could realize the depth and extent of the gifts we have already been given, we would attain heights of ecstasy that collecting stuff will never achieve.

Power isn't control at all--power is strength, and giving that strength to others. A leader isn't someone who forces others to make him stronger; a leader is someone willing to give his or her strength to others that they may have the strength to stand on their own. -Beth Revis
