Never forget that the purpose for which we live is the improvement of ourselves,
so that we may go out of this world having, in our great sphere or our small
one, done some little good for our fellow creatures and labored a little
to diminish the sin and sorrow that are in the world.
William E. Gladstone0 -
A life of significance does not look the same for every person. Each is as individual as the person who lives it. They come in many shapes and sizes. However, there are some things that all people who achieve significance have in common: They strive for excellence. They do the small things well. They care about others. They constantly improve themselves. They give it their all. - John Maxwell

The masters in the art of living make little distinction between their work and their play, their labor and their leisure, their mind and their body, their information and their recreation, their love and their religion. They hardly know which is which. They simply pursue their vision of excellence at whatever they do, leaving others to decide whether they are working or playing. To them they're always doing both. - James Michener

I believe in God, who is for me spirit, love, the principle of all things. . . . I believe that the reason for life is for each of us simply to grow in love. I believe that this growth in love will contribute more than any other force to establish the Kingdom of God on earth. - Leo Tolstoy

Practice being gentle, respectful and loving toward the life force in all things. Remind yourself that your efforts do make a difference, even if you think they are miniscule in comparison to the magnitude of the problem.

To be playful is not to be trivial or frivolous, or to act as though nothing of consequence will happen. On the contrary, when we are playful with each other we relate as free persons, and the relationship is open to surprise; everything that happens is of consequence. It is, in fact, seriousness that closes itself to consequence, for seriousness is a dread of the unpredictable outcome of open possibility. To be serious is to press for a specified conclusion. To be playful is to allow for possibility whatever the cost to oneself. -James Carse

Mistakes aren't just our teachers; they're also our motivators. They cause us to reexamine our choices, revise our plans, and, in some cases, reconsider the way we live our lives. And change them for the better. . . .
The person who makes no mistakes doesn't usually make anything. And when you learn to see your mistakes for what they are-- compulsory education--the harder you fall, the higher you'll bounce.
Patti LaBelle0 -
Perhaps the final step in the healing of all wounds is the discovery of the capacity for compassion, an intuitive knowing that no one is singled out in their suffering, that all living beings are vulnerable to loss, attachment, and limitation. It is only in the presence of compassion that we can show our wounds without diminishing our wholeness. -Rachel Naomi Remen

We should so live and labor in our times that what came to us as seed may go to the next generation as blossom, and what came to us as blossom may go to them as fruit. This expresses the true spirit in the love of humankind. - Henry Ward Beecher

Youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind. You are as old as your doubt, your fear, your despair. The way to keep young is to keep your faith young. Keep your self-confidence young. Keep your hope young.

hi... I was formerly under the account BustersMom (aka Princess Juliet) it's been many years since I've been here on the forum but thought I'd see if any of my old pals are still active here.

I don't recall you Ziggysmom, but this thread has been here since I think 2007 I come basically daily and leave a quote because it is something I did almost from the first. This (BC. Org) was the first blog I was ever on. I am computer illiterate, and I presume learned how to be on a blog through total necessity. I hope others will have a way better memory than I do and reach out to you again
I do know many of he gals I started with wanted me to continue putting the quotes here so that is why this is still a very open thread. Below is today's quote.

"The best index to a person's character is how he treats people who can't do him any good, and how he treats people who can't fight back."
-- Abigail Van Buren0 -
When we choose not to focus on what is missing from our lives but are grateful for the abundance that's present--love, health, family, friends, work, the joys of nature, and personal pursuits that bring us pleasure--the wasteland of illusion falls away and we experience heaven on earth.

To act with common sense, according to the moment, is the best wisdom I know; and the best philosophy, to do one's duties, take the world as it comes, submit respectfully to one's lot, bless the goodness that has given us so much happiness with it, whatever it is, and despise affectation.
Horatio Walpole0 -
When I realized that God, the divine source of life, not people, was the source and substance of all good things, I was freed from every "ism" that held me captive. When I stopped comparing myself to others, stopped competing with others, when I was able to honestly want the best for everyone, when I became willing to make choices and accept full responsibility for their consequences, every chain that held me in a place of mediocrity and unfulfillment fell away. -Iyanla Vanzant

There's always room for expressing our uniqueness and love and changing the world with it, no matter what our position in life. I saw on the news a New York City subway conductor who sent out poetry, love, and messages of good cheer over his loudspeaker system instead of the usual "Stand clear of the closing doors." He is a true original. So are you—if you will simply learn to express your originality. Share your life with those who are also on the journey and you will change the world. - Bernie Siegel

On Arturo Toscanini's eightieth birthday, someone asked his son, Walter, what his father ranked as his most important achievement. The son replied, "For him there can be no such thing. Whatever he happens to be doing at the moment is the biggest thing in his life—whether it is conducting a symphony or peeling an orange." -Ardis Whitman

Claiming self-reliance represents one of the most significant turning points in a human being's evolution. It signals the crucial shift from dependence on outer authority to reliance on inner knowing.

"Love is stronger than differences. We all live on the same planet. We walk on the same earth. We breathe the same air. No matter where I was born, no matter what color skin I have or what religion I was raised to believe in, everything and everyone is connected to this one life. I no longer choose to prejudge others, to feel either superior or inferior."
-- Victoria Halik0 -
Ultimately we have just one moral duty: to reclaim large areas of peace in ourselves, more and more peace, and to reflect it toward others. And the more peace there is in us, the more peace there will be in our troubled world. -Etty Hillesum🌼

To be great, be whole: do not exaggerate or exclude anything ofwhat is yours. Be entire in everything. Put all that you are into the least that you do. Be like the full moon, living aloft and shining everywhere.

A good conscience is to the soul what health is to the body; it preserves constant ease and serenity within us, and more than countervails all the calamities and afflictions which can befall us without.
Joseph Addison

A thin line separates laughter and pain, comedy and tragedy,
humor and hurt. Our lives constantly walk that line. When we
slip off on one side or the other, we’re taken by surprise. But
who said there wouldn’t be surprises? Knowing God just means
that all the rules will be fair; at the end of our life drama,
we’ll see that. We never know how things will turn out, but
if we know with certainty they will make sense regardless
of how they turn out, we’re on to something.

Do we need to make a special effort to enjoy the beauty of the blue sky?
Do we have to practice to be able to enjoy it? No, we just enjoy it.
Each second, each minute of our lives can be like this.
Wherever we are, any time, we have the capacity to enjoy the sunshine,
the presence of each other, even the sensation of our breathing.
We don't need to go to China to enjoy the blue sky.
We don't have to travel into the future to enjoy our breathing.
We can be in touch with these things right now.
Thich Nhat Hanh0 -
When we plant a rose seed in the earth, we notice it is small, but
we do not criticize it as "rootless and stemless." We treat it as a
seed, giving it the water and nourishment required of a seed. When
it first shoots up out of the earth, we don't condemn it as immature
and underdeveloped, nor do we criticize the buds for not being open
when they appear. We stand in wonder at the process taking place,
and give the plant the care it needs at each stage of its development.
The rose is a rose from the time it is a seed to the time it dies.
Within it, at all times, it contains its whole potential. It seems to be
constantly in the process of change: Yet at each state, at each
moment, it is perfectly all right as it is. A flower is not better when
it blooms than when it is merely a bud; at each stage it is the same
thing--a flower in the process of expressing its potential.
Timothy Gallwey0 -
Each day is a time of great possibilities. Many experiences are before me that will inspire me on my upward path of growth and discovery. Knowing this, I greet each day with enthusiasm. An enthusiastic attitude is an energizing one. When I am enthusiastic, I tap into an inner wellspring of energy that promotes change in my body and in my life. The positive power that is generated by enthusiasm improves my circulation and helps restore health to my body. It stirs up joy within me and calls it forth into expression. Enthusiasm for life brings out the beauty that I was once unable to see. - unattributed

Balance (harmony) is never static. One does not achieve a state of balance
that, once achieved, will stay that way forever. We may want to get our bodies
in shape--and we can. Yet those bodies are a process, and being in shape is
ongoing, not something one accomplishes and then moves on to bigger and better
things. We may want to get our cars or our houses just the way we want them,
and we can do that. And the balance we seek for our houses or cars is fleeting
at best. Life is just like our checkbooks. We need to learn the tools for bringing
them back into balance, for once we get them balanced, they will only have a
possibility of staying that way if never use them again.
Living in harmony is an ongoing process.
Anne Wilson Schaef0 -
I truly believe we can either see the connections, celebrate them, and
express gratitude for our blessings, or we can see life as a string of
coincidences that have no meaning or connection.
As for me, I’m going to believe in miracles, celebrate life, rejoice in the
views of eternity and hope my choices will create a positive ripple
effect in the lives of others. This is my choice.
