I truly believe we can either see the connections, celebrate them, and
express gratitude for our blessings, or we can see life as a string of
coincidences that have no meaning or connection.
As for me, I’m going to believe in miracles, celebrate life, rejoice in the
views of eternity and hope my choices will create a positive ripple
effect in the lives of others. This is my choice.

Being aware of your true self is the best way to free yourself from the controlling, manipulative behavior of others. You don’t need the right car, the right shoes, the right girlfriend to be complete. All you really need is to be yourself. Your spirit is the real you. Let it guide you. Be still. Listen to your spirit say, “I am, and I am enough.” In the silence, you’ll hear God. -Melody Beattie

Success is in the way you walk the paths of life each day; it’s in the little things you do, and in the things you say. Success is not in getting rich, or rising high to fame. It’s not alone in winning goals, which all people hope to claim. Success is being big of heart, and clean and broad in mind; it’s being faithful to your friends, and to the stranger, kind. It’s in the children whom you love, and all they learn from you; success depends on character, and everything you do. - unattributed

The cure for all the ills and wrongs, the cares, the sorrows, and the crimes of humanity, all lie in that one word “love.” It is the divine vitality that everywhere produces and restores life. To each and every one of us, it gives the power of working miracles if we will. - Lydia Maria Child

[The Native American] believes profoundly in silence—the sign of perfect equilibrium. Silence is the absolute poise or balance of body, mind and spirit. The people who preserve their selfhood ever calm and unshaken by the storms of existence—not a leaf, as it were, astir on the tree; not a ripple upon the surface of the shining pool—theirs, in the mind of the unlettered sage, is the ideal attitude and conduct of life. If you ask: “What are the fruits of silence?” he or she will say: “They are self-control, true courage or endurance, patience, dignity, and reverence. Silence is the cornerstone of character.” -Ohiyesa (Charles Eastman)

The keys to growth are available to us the day we are born. They include openness, sensitivity, awareness, insight, intuition, wonder, imagination, curiosity, empathy, compassion, and creativity. These keys will unlock the doors to a rich life. What I am at ninety or what you are at your age, depends upon how we use those keys. - Wilferd A. Peterson

Generosity does not apply only to money and material things; it is more about your spirit. You do not have to be financially wealthy to be generous. You can give love, kindness, time, listening, patience, caring, appreciation, compliments, and service. When in doubt, give. Alan Cohen

You may have tangible wealth untold;
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be--
I had a mother who read to me.

We may never win any great awards or be named best dressed, most beautiful, most popular, or most revered. But each of us has an arm with which to hold another person. Each of us can pull another shoulder under ours. Each of us can invite someone in need to nestle next to our heart. We can give a pat on the back, a simple compliment, a kiss on the cheek, a thumbs-up sign. We can smile at a stranger, say hello when it’s least expected, send a card of congratulations, take flowers to a sick neighbor, make a casserole for a new mother. -Barbara Johnson

However we understand our spiritual selves, most of us agree on how to foster them: through peace, silence, and beauty, in meditation, and in what some of us call prayer. Just as every bud aspires to be a flower, and as the flower holds the secret of the fruit, so we enfold the beauty of our spirits. If we nourish the spirit, we can grow to be our better selves. If we allow nothing to hamper its growth, our spirit will unfold. -unattributed

Inside me is a wheel, constantly turning from sadness to joy, from exultation to depression, from happiness to melancholy. Like the flowers, today’s full bloom of joy will fade and wither into despondency, yet I will remember that as today’s dead flower carries the seed of tomorrow’s bloom, so, too, does today’s sadness carry the seed of tomorrow’s joy. - Og Mandino

I want first of all to be at peace with myself. I want a singleness of eye,a purity of intention, a central core to my life that will enable me to carryout these obligations and activities as well as I can. I want, in fact--
tomorrowfrom the language of the saints--to live "in grace" as much of
the timeas possible. I am not using this term in a strictly theological
sense. Bygrace I mean an inner harmony, essentially spiritual, which can betranslated into outward harmony. I am seeking perhaps what
Socrates askedfor. . . "May the outward and inward person be at one." Anne Morrow Lindbergh

Feeling connected to the natural world connects us to the rhythms of life. Get away! Any way you can. Walk, drive, take a train or hop a bus to a peaceful place where you can enjoy the beauty of nature. . . . I am awed when I behold the magnificence that God has created all around us. God’s glory is everywhere: in a field of weeds and wildflowers; in the stillness of the woods with the trees arching over us; in a crystal lake lapping softly at the shore; in the rustling of leaves, the scamper of little animals. - Susan L. Taylor

Compassion is the ultimate and most meaningful embodiment of emotional maturity. It is through compassion that a person achieves the highest peak and the deepest reach in his or her search for self- fullfillment.

"With repetition, your mind believes what you feed it. Feed it love. Feed it faith. Feed it positivity. As often as you can. If you don't, it runs its own course, which usually ends up being negative. You have to make the conscious choice, over and over, until it becomes default."

To a happy person, the formula for happiness is quite simple: Regardless of what happened early this morning, last week, or last year—or what may happen later this evening, tomorrow, or three years from now—now is where happiness lies. Happy people understand that life is really nothing more than a series of present moments to experience, one after another. They understand and appreciate the past for what it taught them about living more in the now, and they see the future as more present moments to experience. Mostly, they understand that right now, this very moment, is where life is truly lived. -Richard Carlson

There is only one thing about which I shall have no regrets when my life ends. I have savored to the full all the small, daily joys. The bright sunshine on the breakfast table; the smell of the air at dusk; the sound of the clock ticking; the light rains that start gently after midnight; the hour when the family come home; Sunday-evening tea before the fire! I have never missed one moment of beauty, not even taken it for granted. Spring, summer, autumn, or winter. I wish I had failed as little in other ways. -Agnes Sligh Turnbull

Sometimes, the problems you must face are more than you wish to cope with, and tomorrow doesn’t seem to offer any solutions. You may ask yourself “Why me?” but the answer is sometimes unclear. You may even tend to feel that life hasn’t been just or fair to burden you with such obstacles. The roads any of us choose to follow are never free of bumps or curves, but eventually the turns lead to a smoother path ahead. Believe in yourself and your dreams. You will soon realize that the future holds many promises for you. Remember. . . difficult times don’t last forever. -Geri Danks

Whatever else you do or forebear, impose upon yourself the task of happiness; and now and then abandon yourself to the joy of laughter. And however much you condemn the evil in the world, remember that the world is not all evil; that somewhere children are at play, as you yourself in the old days; that women still find joy in the stalwart hearts of men, and that men, treading with restless feet their many paths, may yet find refuge from the storms of the world in the cheerful house of love. - Max Ehrmann

Would that there were an award for people who come to understand the concept of enough. Good enough. Successful enough. Thin enough. Rich enough. Socially responsible enough. When you have self-respect, you have enough.
Gail Sheehy

There's nothing like a walk in the forest to clear my mind and get my spirit to calm down and slow down. Any time I get away from the mass of people and find a quiet, solitary spot in nature, be it in the middle of the desert, in the forest, on a beach, or even along a lonely country road, I feel myself being refreshed, revived, renewed. It's a wonderful feeling that I don't search out nearly enough. -tom walsh

To worry over conditions that you cannot change is gratuitous folly. To get and keep your own peace of mind, to do your own duties well, and to see the Presence of God in all people and things, is the surest way both to help the world and to make your own life divinely successful, too. -Emmet Fox

Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back,
always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation),
there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless
ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits
oneself, then providence moves, too. A whole stream of events issues
from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen
incidents, meetings and material assistance, which no person could
have dreamt would have come his or her way.
William H. Murray0 -
You will find, as you look back upon your life, that the moments that stand out, the moments when you have really lived, are the moments when you have done things in a spirit of love. -Henry Drummond

Freedom is not simply the circumstances that allow you to do whatever you want. Freedom is not only the opportunity to choose. Freedom is the strength of character to choose and to do what is right. . . .The foundation of freedom is not power or choice. Freedom is upheld not by men and women in government, but by people who govern themselves.Matthew Kelly

When all the words have been written, and all the phrases have been spoken, the great mystery of life will still remain. We may map the terrains of our lives, measure the farthest reaches of the universe, but no amount of searching will ever reveal for certain whether we are all children of chance or part of a great design. And who among us would have it otherwise? Who would wish to take the mystery out of the experience of looking into a newborn infant's eyes?

More often than not, when we hear the word “courage,” we think of heroic acts in times of crisis. But in our everyday lives, we shouldn’t overlook the courageousness of simply being there. Lives are changed when we faithfully provide for our families, care for the elderly, or lend an ear to a troubled friend. Persistence in making this world a better place to live—for ourselves and others—is definitely a form of courage. - unattributed

I have become my own version of an optimist. If I can't make it through one door, I'll go through another door--or I'll make a door. Something terrific will come no matter how dark the present.
