Morning all! Hope you all have been enjoying this beautiful weather.
Blackjack...beautiful sunrise this am...did you go for an early-morning trip around the lake? Sending you "it's just your old bones" vibe for tomorrow!
Susan....had to laugh re: spelling. You can spell just fine - it's your computer keyboard that doesn't know how! And they were just typos anyway....at least that's my story and I am sticking with it!
Now for my saga of the day.....I have EXTENSIVE mold damage due to the fact that whoever put in the windows did not caulk or put up a waterproof membrane before they put up the trim board and obviously it has been leaking since the house was built! And we are not sure where the water actually came in...it could be from the 2nd floor trim board and has been running down and could be inside the walls for all we know. We are in for a long haul with this...my neighbors windows are leaking the same way, but he couldn't be home yesterday when the window people came. Connie...I called you yesterday right away and left you a message. I really think you need to look into this immediately with your kids. This is NOT good. The window guys didn't offer up too much info but they did smile and say they get called out a lot for Cambridge/DR Horton houses as Republic windows supplies the windows but most ofter Cambridge puts them in. They also smiled when I told them about Cambridge saying they would be out this week to look into it...they said and I quote "get in line for getting this fixed". Hmmmm....anybody know a lawyer who specializes in constructions defect law???????? I refuse to pay for this one!
OK...nuf of that! Took the Z out yesterday and went "Z'in"! I do love that car. Hope you all get a chance to get out and enjoy today...remember...snow is coming!!!!
OH.....Happy Fall!

Good morning everyoneIt's quiet this morning here. There is a gentle rain falling outside which should slow down the squirrels who are causing so many seed ( large & heavy ) casings to come out of the trees. Dh and I have to park as close to the garage as we can so that the cars don't get hit. I'd just as soon not have rain today, but can't complain when it is so gentle and peaceful. Our little part of the world here in southern Illinois just needs a nice bath.
Hope everyone ( Julie/Chicago and Julie A ) are getting along ok. Julie C -- you are certainly on everyone's mind. Karin, how are things going with you??? Nicki,Leesa, --- Jules, how are you holding up ??? One day at a time, ok. The only way out of anything is head held high with firm resolve as you zoom right through the middle of it....whatever it is -- you are bigger and stronger.
Hope someone is staying dry today. Glad you could use the Lincoln material for your kids in class Susan. I just loved the part on the end where it said...."You can't fail if you don't quit". A new statue was un-veiled that day in Mt. Vernon of a very young Lincoln so I was moved to share something of him with all of you. He sort of epitomizes the way I saw my parents live --- giving up was not in their vocabulary. They always tried to make life better in some way no matter what the circumstances -- and there were many times the circumstances were quite unenviable. I miss them every day and I'd just like to say to them ( they watch over me now ) I had the best parents anyone could hope for and I hope I'm making you proud.
Ok, everyone...go out and have a great day and make your circumstances good just because you can if you want too.
Love, Jackie

Ok -- we were here at the same time Wendy. That is awful about your windows and I am sure sorry to hear that. Glad though that you are going to "fix" it no matter what it takes. Really makes you wonder doesn't it ( not that I want to be the voice of doom and gloom ) how many builders of anything....take shortcuts, have shoddy employees who do not care about their work, and/or otherwise get away with some sort of cheating in some way. Guess we all get "taken" for a ride on something....just have to hope it's not too bad.
I do think though....mold is nothing to mess with, even more so if you are prone to allergies. Isn't that right nurses. Ok, I'm back out now. Talk with you all later.

Good Morning Ladies,
Yes, the Lunch Bunch had a great time...good food, good friends and lots of laughs. We got to sneak a peek at JulieR and she was soooo beautiful as all brides are. Wishing you lots of love and happiness for years to come. And I agree with Laura she did look like Cinderella. JulieChicago..sending healing hugs as you recover from surgery. Let us know how you are doing when you can.
Jackie..thank you for sharing your beautiful story about your granddaughter. I know that you will have a wonderful reunion. Bittersweet but wonderful. Have a great trip. Just think it will be here in know time.
Wendy..moldy windows..this is not good. The construction company and builder are responsible for this. I would try to go after the builder for this one. I will ask my lawyer friend what can be done about this and let you know.
Smerf..have a great trip with your ds..Watch those flood areas.
Laura..I love the tan legs!! Not wearing stocking is for me.
Zap.. I do work as a nurse but I work pt. I split my position with another person. Job sharing. We both were on medical leave at the same time so it works for us. Hope you are enjoying your last year of school. Just think holiday breaks are coming up soon.
Rita...hope you were able to get in some golf time this weekend with the warm weather. Have fun next week on the walk and take lots of pics to post for us to see.
As for me I have been sick all weekend with a high fever...sweating like crazy..who needs a sauna. No other symptoms so this is very baffling to me. I really don't need this when I am leaving for some fun Friday. I hate being sick. I think maybe I caught a flue bug from one of my kids at school. Oh well.. time to call in the doc on Monday.. as for me I am back to bed . I hope you all have a great day.
Remember to be healthy..be happy..hugs to all

Hi:
Got up this morning and listened to the news. Went back to bed! This economic news is terrible! Other than that, hope all is well.

Hi gals!
It sounds like the lunch bunch had a great afternoon! Wow! That was so neat that you got to see JulieA on her special day! Awesome! I knew she'd be a lovely bride!
JulieB..thinking of you and hoping that all went well on Friday. Please post as soon as you can with an update. You are in our thoughts.
Jule...Sending good vibes your way, too as your surgery approaches this week. HUGS! Hang in there!
Oh gals...we found the neatest activity yesterday. We went up to Utica near Starved Rock for the Illinois Wine Vintage Festival. It was huge. There were 27 wineries there with their wares! There as a band, food vendors, and LOTS of people. We didn't really expect such a large gathering or event. Next year we will go armed with lawn chairs and our own cheese and sausage trays to enjoy while the band plays. We got to sample lots of wine from all over the state. So much fun!! The Utica winery where we found the wine with the bc labels was there. They have a new wine called pink ribbon that now bears the bc label. It was excellent and of course I had to buy a bottle of it.
I hope that everyone is enjoying the nice weather. I shudder when I think about what's coming in a few months!
Hugs to all of you..........
Rita

HI everyone!
Wendy - thanks for the message. I guess we really need to look into our leak. This is probably only the third time we noticed it - it only happens when it rains REALLY hard and toward that window.
Went to the zoo today with the kiddos. It was a perfect day weather wise.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Morning all! Very foggy out here....looks like London!
Susan...I pictured you yesterday am, hding under the covers, shaking after watching the news. Yep...not looking so good these days.
Connie....I will send you pics of where the mold is. Don't open them unless you have dsl as they take a while to download. Or don't download if you don't want to be scared of email for the rest of your life! I am hoping that the mold issue is only on the outside, but with water inside who knows how long it has been seeping in and where it came from and where it went! It was a beautiful day for sure for the zoo!
Jule....coming up soon! Hang in there...it will all be behind you by this time next week and you know how fast a week can go. You are in good hands so should sail right thru. Don't forget to ask and than TAKE pain meds! Don't be a strong Illinois woman - be a little wimpy for a change. That's why they give you the good drugs....
JulieB...hope you are home and are doing as well as you can be...and you too take those drugs!
Rita...the wine festival sounds like a lot of fun, fun, fun! We have some wineries around here but I've never gone. Maybe next weekend I can drag someone out to one for a little tasting...preferable someone who doesn't drink so I will have a designated driver and can REALLY get a good taste!
Blackjack...good vibes sent your way! How's your fever? Sure hope you are on the mend...so you think it was flu? Gosh...that would be a bit early...I better see about my flu shot!
Everyone else....hope you are all doing well and are gearing up for the work-week. Have a wonderful day....and have some fun today! Why not give an old friend a call and meet for coffee/drinks and catch up? Life's too short......

oops....forgot! Lifetime is doing a movie on 10/18/2008 re: the discovery of Herceptin so naturally I am eager to see this!

Morning!
Rita - I have to say...you (and Susan) always do the neatest things!

Someone posted this in one of the forums here:
Dr. Moss is an advocate for cancer, for something like 30+ years. He follows conventional and alternative research and travels the world.
This week, the online life sciences magazine The Scientist published an article whose implications for breast cancer research are profound.
Tumor cell lines - living cells taken from tumors and cultured in the laboratory - are the mainstay of cancer research at the most fundamental level, and are used as the model for studying tumor behavior and response to treatment. For the past 25 years, most of the laboratory research into metastatic breast cancer has been based on a single breast tumor cell line known as MDA-MB-435. At least 650 papers have been published on studies involving this cell line. Yet it has been revealed that this supposed breast cancer cell line may in fact not be composed of breast cancer cells at all. Instead, it appears that the cells are derived from melanoma. For 25 years, therefore, breast cancer research using this cell line - and it is one of the most widely used - has been based on an incorrect model. Melanoma-derived tumor cells are not biologically equivalent to breast cancer cells; they have different molecular and genetic characteristics.
Cell lines - even when correctly sourced and identified - are an intrinsically flawed model, and in the past I have often cautioned against the tendency to read too much into the results of cancer research done on tumor cell lines. The inferential leap from Petri dish to living human cancer patient is simply too large: an enormous number of drugs and experimental techniques show significant activity in cultured cancer cell lines, only to exhibit no benefit whatever when given to human subjects in a clinical setting. Furthermore, cell lines can degenerate over time, becoming genetically unstable. But these are relatively small concerns compared to the discovery that MDA-MB-435, the cornerstone of breast cancer research, is not breast cancer at all.
We are constantly being reminded that this is the era of evidence-based medicine. But if the very cell lines which have provided the foundation for breast cancer research for the past quarter century have now been conclusively shown to be melanoma cells, not breast cancer, how solid or trustworthy is the evidence on which current breast cancer treatment is based? Evidence built on such flawed foundations more closely resembles hearsay than science.

Good morning all.....hmmm Laura seems a mite scary in that article. Have to wonder why so many have such good results then but often things/research/statistics don't seem to match up very well at all--in other words, there are people who do all the right things and still get cancer, others who just pay no attention and do everything "wrong" and are just fine --- I think there is a great key HIDING just beyond sight and when that is discovered we will have this no more. So please, please hurry scientists and researchers
Hope you are all enjoying todays sunshine. My thoughts are with you.

Just a quick hello to everyone - we had a PERFECT wedding day. And it was so fun to see the lunch bunch out on the patio!!!! Thanks for the wonderful compliments, and the well wishes from everyone are so sweet. Maybe JanClare can post the picture!!
We ended up sneaking away to Eaglewood Resort & had a very nice little getaway.
Wondering how JulieChicago is doing ? Looks like nobody has posted about her yet... unless I missed it, I pretty much scanned for her name to see if there was any news.
Hugs to everyone... I'll be back on a regular basis soon & get caught up with everyone.

Hi everyone...
I'm alive...not quite kicking, but trying to get there.
Surgery went well...ish. I'm not going to say too much right now as I'm pretty much freaked out about how the reconstructed side appears right now. Am seeing the PS early Wed morning and will have more to say after that. Right now, I'm not happy and only about one tear away from a freakout. They were able to do the implant as a one-step with no expander and I did wake up with my own nipple. Although why the majority of this implant appears to be in my armpit-- well, more to come on that..... The other side, the mastoplexy, while bruised and swollen, right now, looks pretty good.
I'm surprisingly ok. Not on any drugs at all. First night was rough. My blood pressure for some reason got so low that when I got up the first time to use a bathroom, I fainted and had to be sat down. Learned BP was 60/40. Wicked headache from the meds. But finally was able to sleep some and woke up remarkably improved. Was off meds completely by Sunday. Am sore and definitely exhausted.
But here's the other thing that happened. Ready for this one? So I've posted a few times about my husband having a kidney stone issue. He had gone to the ER about a week 1/2 ago and it had to be physically removed via surgery. Came home, started to have issues with blood in his urine (sorry!) that began to clot and plug things up. Went back to ER, they admitted him, went in a second time and removed clot. This the day before my surgery. He was not feeling great the day of my procedure, but a good friend of his took him to the hosp, sat with him all day and spent the night. Dave drove to the hosp Saturday am, was sitting with me and suddenly got up to go to the bathroom. Came back pale and told me had had started bleeding profusely again. Went down to the ER and while there, passed an enormous clot and they admitted him immediately! So- suddenly- we are in the same hospital, together, in different wings!! I'm making frantic phone calls, making arrangements for the kids. I get discharged Sunday- he's still in the hospital! I had a brother stay last night and help me with the kids, and there is a woman coming to help me tonight- friend of a friend- but I'm not sure what the rest of the week holds! Called the PS about above concerns and have an early am appt Wed am, which will have to do as I have to manage the kids etc on my own. Sort of on my own. I have to say my usually fractured family has really come together and been great about helping us.
It's 4:15 and I'm still in my jammies. These "Softee" camisoles are great for holding the drains. I have two and one can come out Wed. God, they are yukky.
So- day by day on this. It's honesty been good in a weird way to be worrying so much about my husband as I've barely had a moment to concentrate on self. I do know there is a huge cry in my future.....
more soon.

JulieB - OM goodness! I cannot believe the chain of events...I was teary eyed as I read your post...too much for one gal to handle...geesh...I am hoping things get better REAL SOON...we're here to help if need be, although I am so happy your family and friends have come through for you and dh...gawd...I'm shaking my head here...hang in there...healing thoughts are sent your way!
Jackie and Mich - Your new avatars are great! It's awesome to see your smiling faces!
blackjack - come in blackjack...how are you feeling?
Wendrew - OMG - mold, windows, leaking...OH MY! It's always something...isn't it? Hope it all works out...we shall see, huh!
JulieA - You really looked like Leslie Ann Warren when she played Cinderella back in the 60's...

Julie A....so glad all went well for your wedding day. We are hoping for some pics soon.
Happy, Happy Birthday to Connie and many, many more.
Great to see you tdbear. Hope your boss is getting better. It can be a little drawn out though.
I'm working on finding a picture I really like and amazed I got any at all. I'm not much of a computer person, but if I keep hanging around with all of you I just might learn. My ex talked me into joining My Space so guess I'll be learning that too.
Julie/Chicago...incredible. Who would have thought your mind would not be so much on your own health for the reason you had.....I would have guessed anything else but having a husband in the hospital just when you were. I too am glad your family is rising to the occasion -- if ever there were a time this sure seems to be it. Prayers and hugs for strength, health and good reports for both of you.
See you all tomorrow.
Hugs, Jackie

Happy Birthday Connie.
Julie B - Wow! You have a lot going on. I hope your dh is feeling better. It's good that he was at the hospital I guess. What a time though. Sending you lots of hugs. I am glad to hear that you are not in much pain. Were you at least in the hospital when you fainted - they did keep you one night right? I am a little panicked about that.
On a personal note, I am at this point glad that I am not doing reconstruction. Although I am sure that it will look ugly as hell.
I am glad that your family is pulling together to help you. I really don't know how you are doing it. But I guess what you all say is true...Illinois women are tough!! I hope you get some rest soon Julie and that things calm down soon.

JulieB-As you said, take it day by day. I'm so glad you have family that can help you and your kids. I hope your DH will be better soon too. Hang in there.
Jackie-I like your new avatar. It is nice to see a name with the post. I don't know why it took me so long to put my picture back on. Well, yes I do, I think I was waiting for better hair
JulieR-Can't wait to see the picture. Glad you and DH were able to get away.

Morning.....is something strange going on with the boards? I see Mich101 posted last night but I am showing only my post from yesterday????
Hope everyone is doing well...I took a page out of Laura's book and while changing a bulb in my malibu lites out front....took the top off and was immediately covered in bees (wasps? yellow jackets?) and was stung 5x in the same area in the top of my L thigh. It hurt so much and swelled up so badly I considered driving myself to the new urgent care right here...but it finally did subside and now just sore and itchy. Good gosh....are they attracted to bc girls?
Or is it because Laura and I are just so sweet?????
I'll check back later to see if the boards are doing better. I see that the avatars now show up without logging in....is that also something new?
0 -
OK....they just popped up...
Connie....hope your BD was wonderful!
Karin....our neighbors MUST be related....up at 1am yelling and slamming windows and patio doors. I am so tired of this nonsense....
JulieR-A....you did look like a princess! JanClare was just waiting for an OK from you to post the picture. It looks wonderful!
JanClare...OK...you've got the bride's permission...post away!
Jule...love your avatar and you will look as beautiful after surgery as you do today. How are you holding up? Need anything?
JulieChicago....oh good gosh! The least they could have done was put you guys in the same room! You have had a real time of the whole thing, but glad too that it seemed to go okay and you have this HUGE step out of the way. I only had a lumpectomy so I can't really comment on the boob in the armpit thing, but I have read that sometimes this is indeed where your new girl starts out her life. How's DH doing? And as for a good cry...remember...my fort is always open. I think you know what that is....
Jackie....love your avatar!
Blackjack.....how are you doing? Please check in....want to make sure you are up to speed for your trip this weekend.
OK...NOW I have to get running (or limping in my case this am)....everyone have a wonderful day!
Tops down, fists up!

Hey Connie....Hope you had a great birthday. Did you have birithday cake with candles on the top???
JulieChicago....so glad to hear that you are mending well. I hope that hubby is doing better. What a terrible time you've had lately......stress, stress, and more stress. It sounds like you have things under control. So glad that your surgery went well!
Jule..enjoy these next few days. Take some time each day JUST FOR YOU!!! Thinking of you and sending good vibes your way!
Jackie..Neat avatar! I like yours too, Jule!!!
Wendy....I'm sure you're right. If you and Laura weren't so darn cute and sweet, those flying critters would leave you alone. They never bother me! LOL
Mary Jane and I went to Springfield shopping yesterday. Why is it that when you have the money, you never find anything you like and when you don't have any extra money, you see carloads of things to buy? I sure didn't have any luck. I was looking for a nice top or sweather that was more on the professional side to wear when I do a Scholastic Bowl presentation this next month. Maybe it's the styles right now. Nothing looked good on me and I'm still looking! Anyway, we had a good time and found plenty of good food places to eat!
Hope you are feeling better, Blackjack!
Today is "clean the office day" so I'd better get moving. Hope everyone is doing well!

Wow - Julie. Soooo sorry for everything that you are going through. I will say that if you can get through this you can get through anything ! You have had more than your share to handle. Thinking of you. I am glad you are feelng ok. Hope your dh is better soon.
Thanks for the birthday wishes and cards. I had a nice day but I am actually celebrating with my family tonight as DH had a meeting last night he couldn't miss. I had auditors at work yesterday so that wasn't much fun. So, I just plopped on the couch last night, made some popcorn and relaxed. I pulled the "It's my birthday" card a few times when the kids started acting up. It worked!
Sorry about your stings, Wendy. That stinks!
Waiting patiently for the Cinderella picture....

Oh - I forgot to update on the flooding. DH and DS went to MI last weekend. They found the waverunner and it hadn't gone too far. Didn't look like it had any damage. The water was still pretty high. Our boat is kept in a channel off the lake and that water had come down, but the water on the lake was still over all the docks.

Rita --- of course, you have to be sweet like Wendy and Laura....but you also have to be fooling with your outdoor lights --- so they would get you too. I have yet to meet anyone here who is not sweet, kind, generous, understanding, loving, totally warm --- hmm, probably don't have the room or the time to go on. Just glad it's getting to be ok Wendy.
Lots to do today...probably already mentioned I'm going to Mt. Vernon to see primary care--V.A. style. It's mainly to see that I can keep getting my prescriptions as you are supposed to see your PCare every 6 months or so....I got to skip last time but they are not letting me get away with it now. Have to order my sleeve today now that I know when I am going. Also make appts. for mammo etc. Always something but this time it will be both sides...just the operative side last time.
I feel stunning....a few oddities here and there but they don't last and I'm thinking.....leftovers from chemo and rads. My feet are still mis-behavin' but I expect them to get better and better---and if they don't.....I'll just keep using them anyway cause' I don't have any others.
Hope you all have a splendid day. I'll be checking in late tonight I think. One small note. I washed and detailed my car late yesterday....couldn't take it anymore and it looks so nice, but so far dh is driving it. He's working on his truck....so may have to take him to work and pick him up tonight....I doubt he'll have his truck ready. See ya'll later.
Hugs, Jackie
