Ladies I fixed the original link to the pictures but if you don't want to go back here it is again: linky
Welcome Momto7. We'll help you get through this. I notice you say mets. Do you mean local mets as in lymph nodes or distant mets as in other body parts/bones? Usually when people say mets they mean distant mets. 7 kids! How old are they?

Good morning, ladies! What a great time seeing everyone yesterday - catching up with the old friends, and meeting new ones. The time really flies when you have so many friendly people to chat with. BJ gets another Standing O for her efforts putting together this event for everyone. From the organization to the decorations to the gift bags, and this year, fun with the gift exchange --BJ really outdoes herself and she does it because she really cares.
I do have the group picture, but for whatever reason, the photobucket for our group isn't uploading at the moment. So here it is, and we can just try again later to add it to the group account.
Someone else will have to do the name labeling... I'll blame chemo-brain.

Welcome Momto7. I am glad you found our group!!! We are here for support, chat, jokes, quotes and an occasional get together.
Here is the Girls Love Mail webpage link I mentioned to everyone at the luncheon yesterday:
This is a charitable organization that encourages people to write letters/send cards to newly diagnosed BC patients. I know when I was in treatment it really made my day when I got an unexpected card with a positive note or good joke. If you ladies have a few minutes, it would be great to write a quick note to a newly diagnosed BC sister. The holidays are coming and like many other women, I was diagnosed right before xmas. It would be great for these newbies to hear words of wisdom from those of us that have been there and done that already.
We are off to get our new puppy today! I didn't think we could bring her home today, but it looks like we can! The "nursery" is ready....I cleaned up the crate and got it all set up. I will post a picture when I can.

Hi everyone,
I'm writing from Baltimore where I had bilateral DIEP flap surgery at Johns Hopkins 2 years ago. I have a friend now in Chicago who is facing the same decision and is looking for someone who does it there. Does anybody know any hospital that does DIEP routinely? Compared to a TRAM, the difference in trauma and healing is significant. At least it was for me.
Thanks

Hester has your friend checked out Dr. David Song at University of Chicago? I hear he is every well known although there is a wait. But as I say no one waits in line for a bad doctor!
You friend should also check out Rush and Northwestern. I'm sure others here can recommend some suburban doctors. I couldn't do DIEP. I didn't even have enough belly for 1 small boobie prize.

Beautiful picture gals. Sorry I couldn't join you this year. I was there in spirit though.

What a great-looking group of ladies! The picture is fantastic and everyone looks like you're having a wonderful time at the gathering. BJ and her helpers always make it special. How different this gathering is from our very first "get-together" at Jan Clare's house nearly 6 years ago when a handful of us bonded together to make sense out of our journeys. Think of all the different gals who have found their way to our thread over the years, seeking info, company, hope, and companionship. In a way it is sad to think that so many had to face this journey and find us, but in another way it's quite a tribute to the ladies on this thread. We have created a haven where bc sisters from all over the state can find comfort and answers. Each of us brings our own gifts to share with others and each of us reaps the benefits of a great sisterhood where everyone is welcome.
I am so glad that so many of you could gather together for the holiday party. There is a special comfort in meeting the gals from the thread, putting names with faces, and sharing....not only during the scary times, but also during the good times. I am sorry that I couldn't make it this year. Thank you to those gals who made this possible. Hugs to all of you!

Welcome Momto7. This is a great group of ladies, who will always be available to help you in any way that's possible. Stop in often and keep us updated. Tell us a little more about yourself! I also loved Jackie Kennedy. I have about every book that was ever written about her! She was such a classy lady and such an inspiration!

Just checking in to give a big thanks to BJ, Laura and her niece and everyone else who made the party such a special event again. I think we could have gabbed on and on..... For everyone who was not able to make it this year, we were thinking of you as well. These get togethers always uplift me so much to see all of you who have come in to my life and make this journey so much less lonely.
Welcome to momto7 and timebek2. Come back often and hang with us often. Hester... I use Northwestern and will PM you my info on docs. Both my BS and PS have quite a waitlist for surgeries but they try really hard to make things happen ASAP.
MDG... hope you are having a good time with your new puppy!

Just wanted to hop on and say "HI" to everyone this morning. I am leaving in just a few minutes to have coffee with a friend who is heading out to Florida for four months. I'll miss our "gab" sessions but I'll get to see her again when we get to Florida in February. Then I'm going to the library! I love that place. I could spend hours there! The day gets even better! I already have soup made for dinner tonight so I don't even have to cook later this afternoon. I hope everyone has a great day!

Rita, I think you are a Jodi Picault fan. Just read Lone Wolf by her and am now reading a biography about a man who actually did live with wolves (The Man Who Llived with Wolves by Ellis) You love animals and these books about wolves are good reads about wolves. Picault's book (I may have her name off in spelling) is very loosely based on the life of Ellis with his wolves

Susan,
Thanks a bunch. I do like Jodi Picoult and haven't run across Lone Wolf yet. It sounds quite interesting and I will put it on my list of finds for my next library run. Today I came home with Close your Eyes by Iris Johansen, Heartless by Alison Gaylin (an author that Mary Jane recommended), In Plain Sight by C.J. Box, and Copper River by William Krueger. I am hooked on Krueger who I accidcentally discovered by picking up one of his books just because there was a large collection of his books on the library shelf and I figured that if he'd written that many, he must be a good author. I wasn't disappointed. He wrote a mystery series about Cork O'Connor and I think I'm on his 5th or 6th book in that series now. If you like mysteries, you may want to try him.
Anybody else have some "just have to read books" to share?
I will be sure to look for the books that you mentioned. Thanks for sharing!
Rita

Welcome Momto7-you have been a very busy woman raising 7, working and supporting an important cause, but now it's time to focus on yourself. I hope your friend can make it home to spend time with you during this trying time, but remember-we're here for you too!
Thanks for the picture, Irene-we clean up nicely
mdg-can't wait to hear the puppy stories and see a picture of the little fuzzball!

Welcome Timbek2....Becki! I am so sorry that I missed your post earlier. I don't know how I did that but as I was looking over the last few pages of the site I noticed a new name....yours! I am in Bloomington so we are fairly close and Karen is in Peoria. My surgeon is also in Peoria but I went to Jalovec who works very closely with your surgeon. They are both excellent and we were in good hands with them. I have my yearly appointment with her in December so I'll be heading over that way for a mammo and my check-up.
You will find that the women on the Illinois thread are very helpful and informative. They provide a great support group. Come back often and post and tell us a little more about yourself. You are always welcome here.

I will try to post a photo tomorrow. I am so tired....not much sleep last night. Poor little fluff was crying a lot. I am too tired to go and get the camera to upload the photo right now! LOL! We did pick a name.....Baci (pronounced bah-chee). It means kisses in Italian. She loves to give kisses.

mdg...try a ticking clock (do they even exist anymore?) wrapped in a thin blanke in a box with Baci. Baci may relax and think that it is his mother's heart. My goodness,I do not think there is such a clock anymore.
Spunky, Camilla got married I just love Call the Midwife. I also checked out Girls Love Mail and I am in!

One SONG can spark a moment
One FLOWER can wake the dream
One TREE can start a forest
One BIRD can herald spring
One SMILE begins a friendship
One HANDCLASP lifts a soul
One STAR can guide a ship at sea
One WORD can frame the goal
One VOTE can change a nation
One SUNBEAM lights a room
One CANDLE wipes out darkness
One LAUGH will conquer gloom
One STEP must start each journey
One WORD must start a prayer
One HOPE will raise our spirits
One TOUCH can show you care
One VOICE can speak with wisdom
One HEART can know what is true
One LIFE can make a difference
You see, it is up to YOU.0 -

Hi girls---Welcome if I missed to welcome u --I forget LOL
I jealous of u readers--I used to LOVE ro read, but now I wander when I read and have ro read over and over again. It's so relaxing and I always said u never get bored when u'r reading--I'm lucky I don't get bored easily.
Momto7 U are one busy lady--Bless u but u might have to slow down a little for a while and just take care of ur'self and u have loads of people here to help keep u busy and I hope u'r special man comes home soon to u--it will help so much.
Well I'm semi-done with my diarrhea for now but I'm all tired out
And we too got another addition to our home--Aborder collie/Lab??? He's older thos 4 and so gentle but my Katie-Kat has not been happy They'll stay in the same room for a while but when he goes up to her she slaps him. and he walks away so sweet, and she's so sweet so sooner or later I hope they get along. So she's really spending alot of time with me now. His name is sox cuz he has white feet. LOL I think the problem is both Sox and Katie love my SIL and Katie doesn't like that--A female scorned--u know the rest and my goofy grandson wsnts the dog to love him. but he's so anal he really doesn't know how to act--He asked me "Now I want to understand the concept of how to treat u'r pet" He's 8--I told him u relax and just love him and play with him--He's gotta find a concept for every thing. Blah. I still don't understand things---these kids are so smart these days all of them and it's too much sometimes.
Oh well
