Good morning...don't know why the quote printed out in pieces....I could go in and fix it, but sometimes.....well, maybe there is a reason. Maybe it needs to be seen differently -- so just in case.
Oops, we are getting rain today I think. Storms are coming and I just hpe they hold off for as long as possible. If need be I can change my friends appt. for getting her nails done. Already changed it once though.
Storms tomorrow to I think. Well, you know, April showers bring May flowers. We will just l plough through and hope we don't wash out. We will I think be a bit better prepared for the summer this yr. than last. The yr. of the big drought. I bet we are pretty much caught up with our water table.....or sure should be after the next couple of days.
I will definitely be needing the sun after these two days are over though. I have blooming to do.
Hope you all have a fantastic day.
Peace and love,
Jackie

Trying to find a PS in the Chicagoland area that offers one-step aloderm reconstruction. on 4/8 got my results of my exisional biopsy. DCIS and ADH stage 2. Really leaning towards bmx if Im a canidate for alloderm, get rid of them and no chance for recurrence.
Would love to hear from any of you that have had this procedure, PM me!

Welcome Ctey, altho I don't know there will be alot of women coming along that will help u, so rest easy--u'll get an answer.
Well It hasn't stopped puring all night and the school is even closed today.??? Some of the expressways are closed etc. So Jackie how's the sun there or did u take u'r glasses off.? u do know I. kidding. It was rolling thuder all night no real lightening but I could hear the rain. Supposed to be warm today and much cooler tomorrow. Places around got 8. 9 inches of rain.--Well as they say when it rains it pours, maybe we caught up with all the dry spell.?

Welcome cateyz2 I would interview a few PS. Not sure why you will only be interested in one-step. Some PS don't do that for a number of reasons (they would be best to explain why). Even if they do you have to be a candidate for it. I don't know if my PS does or doesn't but I do know he didn't use Alloderm on me. I think he only uses Alloderm if it's needed.
BTW if your DCIS with no nodes you are a stage 0 as your signature says. Not sure why your post says you are a stage 2.

There is no physician like cheerful thought for dissipating the ills of the body;
there is no comforter to compare with good will for dispersing the shadows
of grief and sorrow. To live continually in thoughts of ill will, cynicism, suspicion,
and envy, is to be confined in a self-made prison hole. But to think well of all,
to be cheerful with all, to patiently learn to find the good in all—such unselfish
thoughts are the very portals of happiness; and to dwell day by day in thoughts
of peace toward every creature will bring abounding peace to their possessor.

Camille....warm here yesterday and through the night. Wind is up this morning and we have all sorts of "warnings" out. Sounds like it is not going to be a good day at all here. I'm sure we will get rain as well and the temperatures will go back to 40's. We are going to get a come-uppance. I don't look forward to it, but have been expecting it. Has been pretty windy out since I got up this morning....sigh !!!!!
But...we will be fine and look back on this as just a part of the Spring ritual. Be glad we are through it though.
Hope you all have a good and not too stormy day anywhere.
See you all later.
Peace and love,
Jackie

Wow, Elmhurst is flooded so badly even I290 through the northside is flooded. School cancelled, my meeting cancelled-so working from home, no one's going anywhere. Praying for dry basements for everyone. We've gotten 10 inches and it's still raining!

Hi, I'm in Dupage county (western suburbs of Chicago). Had my UMX on 12/18/12 with TE placement and am scheduled for exchange and augmentation w/ lift on 5/28/13. Not so sure about going thrum with the lift like my PS wants to. I am concerned about nerve damage and scarring on my healthy breast. Anyone out there with any experience? I have found this site to be the most helpful/supportive for each stage of this crazy ride! I would love to connect with any local gals!

Couldn't sleep all night because of the thunder and lightning. Husband slept like a log. I don't get it.
Plenty of water in basement and muddy water erupted from kitchen sink and bathtub. We've lived here 34 years and never had that happen before. Husband is using the shop vac on the basement right now,
Sidewalks under water. Skokie.

Leahy someone will come on to help u, u'll see--I thin right now everyone is dealing with this onslaught of the weather.
Jackie it's worse tan a blizzard so many places are flooded--I just talked to my sister Elnhurst is a mess basements flooding (hers too) Everything is closed it really bad around here--these storms are getting worse and worse. I hope everyody is safe and they are saying don't go out.?

Leahy someone will come. We are not getting anything like our Northern friends. Have managed a good great deal though. Our issues where we live.....all avenues meet ( meaning all ditches, water pathways, etc. ) are all slanted to come to the lake where we live. Still, for the most part we are likely better than most since it has been that way since the very late 40's when the huge drinking water lake that is behind us was built.
It is expected, meant to happen so adjustments have been made to basically keep us high enough to be dry....while everything runs right past us through the big ravines on either side of us and to the lake. They probably started spilling it hours ago.
Hoping things quiet down for all of you there. I feel bad, but do know the weather patterns have been strange and un-predictable for a few yrs. now.
Praying everyone soon gets dried out.
Love and peace,
Jackie

WHen will this rain let up? I am having my oophrectomy tomorrow and had great plans to get things done today before surgery. Instead I spent the day bailing out our basement. It is under control now but water is still creeping back in. I hope this stops soon!
I don't know if my surgeon does direct to implants - you can check. I will PM you his info.
I hope everyone is staying dry! Hugs

Im so sick of this rain! Im a mail carrier I walk all day. Today wasnt so bad but yesterday was absolutely horrible!!!
Alloderm is not so important, I guess Im just hoping to find a PS that has experience in immediate reconstruction with implants. Im a b/c cup so I understand that I may be a canidate and it would be my preferable route if possible so looking for PS who has experience with it

I hear you with the rain.....we are still having rain here as I type. I had hoped that it would stop, and it is much slower now as well as threat of tornado is long gone....but I am a sun person and the last three days there hasn't been in...my mood is dipping wildly and will until the sun gets back out.
Peace and love,
Jackie

Whoa, what a day. These storms that occur"every 100 years" seem to be happening every two years. This one was a amazing and so much damage. I live ten minutes from school but it took me 1 hr plus 15 minutes to get there just to find out that school was closed. We had to get kids home on buses. The school was to remain open but then we had the 7:21 am downpour and it put the area under water. Our home has been spared. So much is going on in the world that my head is spinning with it all. I have a new respect for the power of water!
Hope all are getting treatments in a timely manner in spite of these rains.
Susan

Warning: tap water tastes funky. They've dumped raw sewage into the lake and more chlorine has been added to counteract it. Luckily we have spring water!

Leahv I'm sure someone will come by soon. Also don't be afraid to ask the PS if any of his past breaset cancer patients who had this procedure will discuss it with you.
mdg Good luck tomorrow. Don't worry about not getting stuff done. Now someone will have to do it for you.
cateyz2 not sure what a B/C cup is one you. A 34B is rather small (trust me I used to be a 34B). No way would I have been a candidate. A 38B is much bigger. I don't know if my PS does this or not but he's in Chicago and is out of network. If your still interested PM me and I will send you all his contact info.
Rain hasn't reached the 17 floor yet. Worked a long day on-site. Didn't leave work till 7pm. Only a few miles away though.

Catey if I knew what Alloderm was maybe I could help but everyone here knows I don't know about much, but be patient someone will come along.
This weather is causing all kinds of trouble for so many--I hope everyone is safe and dry. This is not unnatural it's abominable--The wind is picking up now probably bringing the cold in and possible snow flurries tomorrow--HUH

Hi Ladies,
I realize I wrote my last post about 2 hours before the bombings in Boston and I believe it was overlooked because there were so many more important things going on in peoples minds - and understandably so. Just wondered if anyone received 4 weeks of radiation as opposed to 6 which seems to be the normal time. The RO said it delievers the same medically wise, but I may see a slight difference in the appearance of the radiatied breast. Cami said go for it since it is less time (thanks Cami) but I just wondered if anyone else experienced this or has heard of this. It is being done at the new DuPage Medical Building on Warrenville that you can see from I88. Thanks for any info.

Peg I hve heard of different amount of times for rads, some women (men) don't get 6 weeks at all which I thought was normal before, but now I see different abount of rads given.
Wait u go there. My Onc. is ther and I go to Central Dupage Hosp. with that Onc and GP, Card, Gast, and etc. But I go to Warrenvile for my app't with my Onc. I like her but we all have different ones we like. so. But I didn't know they did rads there, I thought they did them at the hospital--But I moved here last yr. and did all my cancer stuff at Elmhurst Hosp. But I love Central DHosp. it's not only georgeous they treat u so wel there.

Cami, I think it is rather new - opened in December or January. I went there because my BS at Northwestern recommended the RO that just started there who came from Northwestern. They all loved him and were sad to see him go and she thought it he would be a good fit. I really liked him and thought he was very thorough and easy to talk with. I will get my Onco test result on Monday, meet with my MO on Monday at Edward Hospital and then will have 'mapping' on Thursday for the rads. If I wasn't pleased with Edward and DuPage Medical, I was going to head to Central DuPage. I have heard so many good things about them. I asked this question because I was a little concerned about the time spent in radiation. Most people seem like they had 6 weeks and I wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing. I guess he wouldn't allow it or suggest it if it wasn't sufficient. For a bit it seemed like the world was ending this week - bombing, explosions, flooding....it's been an interesting and heart-wrenching one. I think I need a drink.

peki007, I believe you get the same amount of radiation, just in a larger dose each time. There are several other protocals out there taking even less time. If there is a difference in success rates, I doubt it is much. There are ongoing trials to compare. I didn't do a lot of research on rads to compare because I wanted to go to the same group of doctors as the rest of treatment and my RO was very experienced and attentive. I had 33 rounds.

cateyz2-I was a D and did the immediate implant. Very happy I did. My PS was a reconstruction surgeon and did an amazing job. I think I pm'd you his name, if not, let me know.

Peg, I did 7 weeks of rads in 2008. Things change in that amt. of time but Doxie brought up a good question to ask...are you getting the same amt. of rads in a little less time. I was given a lot of it ( scary ) at the time, but felt so comfortable with all my previous care and Dr.'s that I chose to go along.
I hope you can get some good answers. We have had, not with the major explosions in Texas, along with the police killing on one of the Marathon bombers ( two brothers in on this ) and as we speak have the other cornered I believe. I hope the pace of all this settles down. It has been a rough few days added to the now flooding that is slated to go on.....through major portions of Illinois.
Hoping a good day for everyone....thank goodness its Friday.
Peace and love
Jackie

peki, I had the 6 weeks of rads and got along very well with no burning and fatigue only at the end. I have had 2 friends who have done the high dose 2-week rads. (I think 14 total treatments if I recall correctly.) They had lots of fatigue and some burning of the tissue. Although it took them a little longer after the treatments to recover their energy level, they did well and said they would do it again in exchange for the longer time period. I have never heard of anyone who did four weeks but imagine that it would be equally effective. It's almost as if it is a compromise between the two other treatment plans.
Both of my friends who opted for the high dosage/shorter timer period are doing fine. I think they adapt the dosage to the time regimen and they are probably all equally effective. The creek behind our house has gone back into its banks but our basement still has seepage. This weather is just unreal!

peki007 you can always get a 2nd opinion but it sounds like your RO is very good and up on things. I would ask him what the difference is. I'm sure he can share some literature/study on the subject.

Love your screenname btw
I had 28 radiation treatments (no boosts) - but I'm doubtful my experience would mirror what your RO is proposing.
Here's why - My treatments followed a unilateral mastectomy followed by chemotherapy. I had positive lymph nodes and lvi and am staged at iiia. The beautiful machine moved to four positions and my breast was really not the main target. The supraclavicular nodes received more attention.
On the one hand you are facing a more standard approach with a low stage and a lumpectomy. On the other hand, because of research and advances, ROs are able to choose from alternatives when it comes to someone who falls into that category (lumpectomy + rads). That's a great thing!
Blessings.

It sounds like I am in a good place. The 20 rounds are stronger than I would get with the 32 and the RO mentioned there are several studies to back up the fact that it is just as effective. He said the only reported difference is sometimes the breast is "lifted" and is a little firmer than the other. I told him at this point in life, I would be fine with with that and he said that surprisingly, some women ask 2 years later - why didn't you tell me that it might be different? I am not small chested and rather symmetrical so I would imagine that might be true on someone who is smaller and I could see why it would matter. He did explain the risk of the side effects and I think you all have mentioned those, so I am well aware. I am still waiting for the Oncotype result on Monday.
I am grateful that my experience here has been so informative. I would never had known as much if I would have just picked up a book and read about it. There is so much going on in the world today (especially this last week) that I feel fortunate that I have a choice about treatment and what I can do. A lumpectomy and rads is a piece of cake compared to what most of you have been through.
Btw, Diane, the screen name (Peki) is the Hawaiin name for Peggy. I saw it on a keychain in Hawaii one time and I thought it was funny and of course the nickname stuck for some. I am always good for any type of amusement I can bring to my friends!
