Momt07 I bet you're so excited. Exchange is a piece of cake compared to the BMX.
Joanne53 I can do dinner on Tues or Thursday. I work .4 miles away. I can just walk over. Would love if some of the Chicago gals could meet us. I can make the reservation if I know how many of us would be coming. BTW do you like Thai Food. I highly recommend we eat at Star of Siam. That's a 4 minute walk from your hotel. If that's not good I can find something else. Just let me know what you want or don't want. BTW do you know Marj? She's also on this forum (not much anymore) and from Ontario.

Hi IL Ladies~ I just returned from a very relaxing few days up at my uncles house on Berry Lake (near GreenBay, WI). I visited with cousins, took relaxing boat rides (pontoon) and went "deep swimming" with the kids! We celebrated the 4th with red, white, and blue jello shots and had our own fireworks display. No one got hurt and it was a VERY FUN celebration!
Joanne~ You are in good hands with lago! She is very knowledgeable about the city and all the good places to eat. Sorry I cannot meet up with the Canada ladies and I hope you enjoy your stay! As for sight-seeing, you may want to go up in the Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) or Hancock on a clear day and enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the city. If you enjoy the outdoors, there is Navy Pier, Grant Park, Buckingham Fountain, and Millennium Park. Or how about a Chicago Cubs baseball game at the famous Wrigley Field? For indoor activities you may want to explore the Art Institute (including the Contemporary wing), Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry (but these wouldn't be high on my list other than to see the buildings' facade. If you do get to the "museum campus", you must note the "spaceship" better known as Soldier Field - home of the Chicago Bears. And then of course there is SHOPPING on Michigan Avenue!!! Can't go wrong there! There are tours on a boat (Chicago River or Lake Michigan), a segway, or walking. I hope this gives you a start of things to think about and talk about with your travel companions. Have you looked at a tour book like Frommer's or Fodor's? I am curious what they actually have to say about the city of Chicago??? Please feel free to send a note back (or PM me) with questions about the sights.
To the western contingent ~ sorry I can't join you either. I will be in Colorado visiting with my sister and her family.
Joan~ I received your test email. Thanks for working on the list. On another note, we are working on a tour guide for Rome and possibly Pompeii. I think we'll be able to manage Florence on our own(?)
Ritajean~ It's FRIGHTENING to me how fast this summer is going! I hope you are getting in some good golf days!
I'm back to removing baseboard, filling cracks and scraping padding (glue). Flooring guy is coming Thursday (keep fingers crossed please!). Enjoy the weekend all!

Wow! Everyone seems busy. I have been busy with family. We spent a week with my son and his family in Baltimore and D.C. Then they were here for the 4th of July for the family golfing day at our club. Fun times. I take each of the boys for a week in the summer. The oldest one was here for a week in June and the youngest two are coming back the last week in July. On a sadder note, I've been dealing with my 90 year old father who is failing fast and is in a nursing home in Tennessee. It's such a tough issue when they are not close and need help.
C-squared, It appears that you have not stopped going all summer long either. I'm jeaous of your approaching trip to Italy! Wow! Fantastic! I love to travel.
Jackie, I did get your wonderful email and it came at an especially good time as I was pretty stressed and down at that point. Thank you for being such a good, caring friend. I will get back to you.
Joan, thanks for updating the contact list!
Everyone enjoy this wonderful weather!

I love Chicago have not been there in 2 years i used to live in Joliet and we would go there all the time even Brookfield zoo. My kids always loved it hoping to go back to Chicago before it gets to cold to spend a day going through the museums again and seeing some friends.
Fireworks are still going off around us my poor dogs are not happy about it either. hope every one is doing good today!

Count me in with ILLEGAL fireworks, till 1:30 AM on the 4th, still a few at night.....and terrified dogs!....Someone did get their foot blown off, OMG
I'm in CHicago, can't do much in 3 days, Navy Pier is the #1 tourist attraction, and always fun walking on the Magnificent Mile. Stuff like visiting one of our great museums, like the Science and Industry could take all day . Gino's deep dish Pizza is a must!

Hi All!

I so agree with midwestdoglover -
You're coming to Chicago - you must have deep dish pizza! Gino's East is our favorite too. Nancy's spinach is a close second.
My mouth is watering just thinking about them :0)0 -
Joanne, if I was coming to Chicago, I would go to Millenium Park, Buckingham Fountain, do an architechtural boat tour, Willis Tower (pick a nice clear day), and shopping on Michigan Avenue. I would definitely have to eat a Chicago style pizza and a Chicago hot dog too. Depending on your interests, we have great museums. I love the Art Institute, the Shedd Aquarium, and the Museum of Science and Industry.
Gee, this makes me want to go to Chicago for something other than doctor's appointments, for a change!

Two for the price of one today...just couldn't decide made worse by my computer miss-behaving and so I did a system restore. Lots of odds and ends to do today, but most should all be fun.
Rita....good to hear from you. I was worried and so it is so good to see you back and posting.
Hope you all have a beautiful Sunday.
Peace and love,
Jackie

The architechtural boat tours are wonderful but I recommend going early in the morning hours (I think the earliest might be around 11am. It gets really hot even in the morning with the sun shining down on the river. The link is to the one we went on years ago on the river. It was wonderful

Amy, I'd recommend reading "Peace, love & healing" or "Love, medicine & miracles" by Bernie Siegel. I got them from my wellness coach and they were so uplifting and reassuring...not strictly for BC, but wonderful stories of how the mind and heart can heal. I also love "Waking the Warrior Goddess"... I found it very empowering with all the tips on supplements, food, etc. in preventing and keeping BC away.

Good suggestions, Hope! My book suggestion, Amy, does not deal with breast cancer at all but I found it so helpful and was actually a book I discussed with my oncologist. It is Why Bad Things Happen to Good People by Rabbi Kushner. I personally received so much from this book as it got me to question my (childlike) undertsanding of a "higher being' who allows things to happen (including cancer and death and loss). I do not know you and it may not be a good match...but it is my suggestion.

Hi all, I about 80 miles northwest of Chicago. I was dx Stage IV in April of this year. I have a bone met to my lower lumbar vertebrea. I have Taxol every week for 3 weeks and then one week off. I then start over again. Right now I finished 4 sessions.
I had Stage IIb cancer about 4 years ago. I don't know how many Illinois Stage IVers are here but I thought I'd check in.
I wish everyone here the best in this difficult battle.

Amy, I have been reading "Anticancer, A New Way of Life". While I originally bought it to learn more about what I could do from a diet perspective, there was actually a wonderful spiritual message there. It is not though specific to bc. It was also interesting to me to learn more about cancer and all the dimensions of this crappy disease. Feel much more informed.
