Hi, everybody... Leah, thinking of you... you are where we were in June. Hope you could ride the ferries, they are so nice... Seatle to the Kimpsah (sp?) peninsula, in particular, from downtown Seatle. We drove through the wine country on the way back... it was beautiful.

I am working to the tempo of this music:

I saw these musicians in a small concert here, and love them... hope you will, too, and it will make your day... click on the video at bottom of page and on the MP3 titles... the others are samplers...

Have all a nice day... Hugs,

    Hi all

Hope you are all having a great weekend. It was a lovely warm day, we even put the canvas shade up over our patio.

I have just done something a little scary. I have written my letter of resignation from school. I have so much I want do do and if I don't do some of them soon I will just add them to my 'bag of regrets' . It has been a really difficult decision to make but I feel so good. I actually told my boss last week and durin the week told others. The reaction from my staff has been really humbling and I will miss them dreadfully, however I know this is the best thing I have done for ages.

DD is due to have her baby in a few days so excitement is growing. She has most things ready but there are some things we will have to go out and get once baby arrives. We do not know whether it is a boy or girl which is quite fun these days.

it was a very busy week last week as DD1 had two concerts, both of which we attended. One was with the regional orchestra to promote their programme for next year and then the next nighjt she gave a solo recital which was wonderful. Tonight she is singing in a concert out of town.

I am feeling very virtuous - I sorted out some of my clothes that I can nolonger wear. They are too large for me. I have been going to Weight Watchers and have so far lost about 14lb since July. It has been rather slow but at least it is coming off.

DH is hover ing around so I had better get off the computer.

I am soooo far behind in posting.  I actually did a long post over a week ago and foolishly did not save it.  Poof...it was gone.  I really dislike that about this site.  It just completely took the wind out of my sails.

I won't try to post a long one right now as I have Natalie and she usually will not let me have but a few minutes to myself before she demands my undivided attention.  I talked to Leah a couple of days ago.  I really enjoy those chats.  Catherine, the Gypsy Revue is very talented!  I got to see Sonny Burgess and the Pacers this weekend.   What a hoot!  These fellas are in their 70's I would guess and they put on an amazing little show.

Twilah;  I will be in Dallas starting Wed, the 29th.  I will get in touch with you.  I hope you feel up to visiting!

Alyson;  A grandbaby makes the world a much happier place to be.  There's nothing quite like it.  Sounds like a perfect time for retirement!  Being a "nana" is much more fun.

My 46th Bday was this past Thursday!  We had about 20 friends over.  I cooked chili.  They brought 3 birthday cakes...lol.  Chocolate, Carrot and Italian Cream...all from scratch and so yummy.  Funny how birthdays are not about presents anymore.  I firmly tell everyone that all I want is their company.  Another birthday is a gift in itself.

It is important to me to be able to come here and read how everyone is doing...even the wonderfully mundane things.  I must make the time to post more myself.

Hi all...I am still here...just recouperating from the loss of Paul Bunion.    I have a pin in my foot to allow the bone to mend properly....one tendon had to be moved a bit.   I am able to walk without crutches now, but still have a surgical shoe on.

Can't wait to hear about your grandbaby, Alyson!

Happy Birthday Melanie!   Cake sounds great.

    Twilah....how are you doing?

    Love you all!

    Hi all,

So good to hear from Melanie, Terry, Alyson recently.  Always good to hear from everyone.

I have been on the run since last Thursday.  Went to Houston to see granddaughter home from college in Chapel Hill, NC.  What a fun visit.  We went to two high school football games and a UIL band marching contest.  My grandson is a soph. in a huge high school called Cypress-Fairbanks for those of you familiar with Houston and he is a percussionist.  He is sitting 3rd chair of 35 percussionists.  Quite an accomplisment for a soph.  He will be 16 in Dec.  I am so proud of him.  He is marching, playing a medium base drum.  His specialty is the mirimba.  He plays with 4 malletts.  Brag, brag.  Gammie here. LOL

I saw another granddaughter sing at the high school game with her Jr. High choir.  They combined the High School choir and the Jr. High choir.  She is 12 and in the 7th grade.

We just got home tonight from San Antonio.  A dear friend had surgery for a brain tumor today.  We waited with his wife.  He is like a brother to Mike. It went well.  Almost 100% sure it is benign.  It was a meningioma and involved the optic nerve and the temporal artery.  Tricky surgery.  We saw him in ICU before we left.  He was still sleeping.  They say there is a possibility of some left sided weakness, but it should go away in a day or so.  If not they will rehab him while in the hospital for 5 days or so.

Alyson, I am so jealous of you retiring.  I want to do that.  A little shaken by the market the past couple of weeks.  I feel like it will come back, but I must get out of the market if I am going to retire.  I can't continue to risk my retirement money.  I have about half in bonds, but half in the market.  I am going to change that as soon as it comes back up.  I agree with you about the bag of regrets if we don't do those things we want to do.  I have those things too.l

Terry, hop-a-long Terry.  Hope you are feeling better and getting around well with your crutches.  Are you missing your college kids terribly?  I bet you are enjoying the time away from work

Melanie, so GREAT to hear from you girl.  Happy, happy birthday and MANY, MANY more! I know you were having great fun with Miss Natalie.  Aren't they a joy?  Just wait, in a flash you will be visiting her at college.  I am planning a trip in Jan or Feb to visit my sister in GA and we will do our road trip to Chapel Hill,NC and visit Lauren, DGD at college.  That is a blast!  She loves having company on campus.  She is from Houston and a long way from home.

Catherine, thinking of you.  I was reading about a Breast Cancer Celebration in May in Denver.  Was reading about it in CURE magazine.  Do any of you get that mag?  It is quite interesting and informative.  How are you doing?  How are the boys?  All 3?  Is your DH doing well? Sure hope so.

Twink?  Are you O.K.?  Missing you here.  How is Dallas?

    Pat, how are you doing?  What did you find out from the scans?  Hope you are O.K. too.  {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Twink and Pat}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Leah, guess you have been vacationing.  What a blessing that you can travel.  I admire you so much because you take every opportunity to live life to the fullest. What a gal you are!

Hey, Carynn, Marsha, Phyl, Mel Wright, Hillary and hope I didn't forget anyone.  Love you all.  Can't believe we are coming up on two years since chemo.  I just passed two years since diagnosis in Oct. 2006.

Love and hugs to everyone, Sammie Kay

Hi eveyone, Happy autumn!  Things are going ok, just waiting to get cat scans done mid november then we'll know more of which way to go. If given a choice I'd say give me more chemo if it means this thing will stay away. But I will just have to wait and see. Thanks,Pat

    Morning, all!

Well, this has been a week!  I started to see the handwriting on the wall while I was out in Seattle and the company I was contracting for had a small layoff of about 20 people.  There started to be noises about contractors... and yes, my last day was this past Friday.

Lucky for me, I had called about 10 contacts, and 8 people called back and said they would nose around. I am in serious discussion with one about some work, though it won't be Oracle consulting, and therefore I can't charge the same usurious rate of pay, but what the heck.  She will also have an perm employee job in Purchasing starting in Jan 09, which I could have if I want it. Much smaller role than the last Purchasing job I held back in the early 2000's, but little stress. It is also an hour each way for a commute. So we'll see.

Oracle consulting requires more than 50%/month travel, and you know how I feel about that. So that is the tradeoff...

Anyway, i am going to screw off for the next two weeks. I arranged for my mom to come to MA on 11/4, and we spend the rest of that week together. I haven't seen her in over a year, so this will be fun. If the weather cooperates, I will take her up to see my daughter at UVM in Vermont. She hasn't seen Lauren in 3 years. So all good.

I am trying to stay calm about not knowing what is next. I think that this is a test of some sort... can I remain calm in a non-structured, not in my control environment?  It is hard, and I am talking to myself all day long. I made a list, and hopefully will be able to use this time to do some things, like write my Christmas letter, which bit the dust last year.  Maybe I will even get the corporate bookkeeping and expense reporting done!  I have always envied people who could just go with the flow and not worry about much... maybe I can see what a little of this feels like!

Scans at end of November, so I can empathize with all my fellow FCC'ers who have their checkups coming up..  I even get to add the mundane dentist and gynie checks to the stuff I have piled up in the next week!!!

Much love to you all.  Any advice, counsel on the staying calm in uncertain times would help. I am **breathing** but still feel anxious!

    Hi all

I wondered how you all were standing up to the economic situation over there. It's getting fairly grim here as well. Heard a young friends business has gone under today and I am sure there will be more.

Have a great break Leah and enjoy being with your mother, you will be able to treasure the time. something will come along, it always does.

On a more positive note I am sitting here waiting on a phone call. DD is in labour right now. Went and sat with her for a while but had to go to see S-in-L who had an operation today. Things are very slow with this baby and its certainly taking its time. Should arrive later tonight.

Alyson, like Terry, I would assume baby showed up (when they hear the news, these days, they'd rather stay warm and comfy where they are, mind you) and everybody is fine and resting. let us know, OK?  Your decision of slowing down will be very timely to enjoy this baby... Wishing you all the best... Take care and send pictures. My "grand(?)-nephew" and my neighboor's baby were both born on the 22nd and are doing fine. My neighboor, a darling of a young woman, wants me to teach her enough knitting to start making baby stuff, too... it's catching...

I had the pleasure to chat with Leah and Melanie (via Skype), but I'll give you the good news here, too. At my last follow-up, bc markers went from 7.5 to 3.6 and everybody at the office was delighted (me, too...) for what it is worth, as we all know... but at least the trend is in the right direction.  Waiting for vitamine D levels.

Exercise has really been the main advantage for me: I am fitter than ever (not light, but strong), and DH got us a treadmill last Friday, so I am walking even more, in a controlled environment, and even jogging a bit... listening to music... it's going to be great on snowy-icy days. For now, we are blessed with such an incredible nice, warm weather, that outdoors activities come first (raking the leaves is getting urgent...).  Thinking of you all and sending big hugs. Catherine

Baby eventually arrived in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Beatrix Ann, had as the consultant said, got herself into a 'Pickle' and she was delivered by emergency c section at 1.15am. Luckily all ended well. We saw her about 45mins after she was born. I will try to get a picture tonight. Being  totally unbiassed, she is beautiful. Beatrix is a healthy 7 lbs 12 ozs. Her mother is doing well just rather sore at present. Her father is besotted and her Grandad, well she has him wrapped round her little finger already.

Must get myself ready for school.

Congratulations Alyson.  What a joy those grandchildren are.  How great you will be able to stay home and enjoy little Beatrix,  Give my best wishes to your DD and SIL.  Pass on congrats to your DH.   Yes indeed, she will wrap both of you around those beautiful little fingers.  Enjoy!

I am getting ready for my 50th class reunion.  Lordy, where did the years go?  I am really looking forward to seeing classmates I haven't seen in several years.  It is in the Rio Grande Valley on the border between Texas and Mexico.  Plenty of things planned.  I will go down on Friday morning and return home on Sunday.

Hope Twyla and Pat are fairing well.  Kinda worried about Twink since we haven't heard much from you.  Sure hope there isn't something wrong.

Melanie, did you get to visit with Twyla?  How is she?  Please, please, someone let us know.  I am a worry-wart.

Love and warm thoughts to all, Sammie Kay

I had to look on page 3!!!!. Where is everyone? Have you all been too busy with the elections?

School is quite hectic just now which is something that I could do without as this tiredness is really getting to me. I have no energy at all. Never mind only 5 weeks to go then I will finish. At times I am really happy and others really scared.

Twink where are you? How are things going?

    Must get some work done.

    Sending warm fuzzies to all

    Hey,

I too am wondering where everyone is?  I found our thread on page 2 on Oct. 31 when I last posted.  But tonight after your post Alyson, we showed up on page 1.

Not much news from here.  I am getting ready to head down south to my 50th class reunion.

I am off tomorrow, but won't leave until Friday morning early.  We hope to get to the hotel by noon on Fri.  They have a lot of activities planned for Friday afternoon and night.

How is the new baby girl doing?  I am sure she is an angel.  They grow so fast.  Hold her as much as possible and touch those little bitty hands and feet.

Alyson, are you still having lymphedema?  I have some swelling in the very top of my arm, especially the underside.  I need to do my lymph drainage massage.  Darn it, by the time I do all the maintenance on this old body I don't have time for anything else.  So when I work, I don't do the back exercises or the lymph exercises.  I also need to exercise to ward off weight gain.  Congratulations on your weight loss.  I must get started.  Someone told me today about Suzanne Sommers book about watching the combination of foods you eat.  It isn't really a diet, just a new way of eating.  Of course, no white flour, sugar .  That in itself would cause me to lose weight.  I am a real sugar addict.

Well, I better get some sleep.  I woke up at 3:30 am today and when I tried to go back to sleep DH's snoring kept me awake for awhile.  I finally got the old earplugs and that helped LOL.

Hugs to everyone.  I wish we could hear how Pat and Twink are doing?  Please, please let us know.  I thought we were going to try to do a Dallas get together.  Any word on that?

    Love to all, Sammie Kay

    Hello all,

I am so envious of the new (and old) grandmothers! My one and only just turned 21, so I doubt I will be a grandmother soon, but I so want to hold and smell a new born! I love them. I hope Baby Beatrix knows how much she is loved!

Diets, yeah, well... I gained back the 20 lbs that I lost during chemo. Now nothing that I bought in that time period fits. Pshaw. And nothing seems to look too good when I try them on, either. So I would be interested in what you all are doing. I do Curves 2-3 times/week, but I don't think that does much for burning calories. And I don't have room in the condo for a treadmill as Catherine has. I honestly don't think it is even eating too many calories. I think it is just being sedentary. So I am listening to whatever you guys are trying.

The kitchen redo is a success: here are some pix. Unfortunately, I have no "before pix". This was a mill, so there are high ceilings. Picture 24" above the cabinets being just dead open space. White knobs on the cabinets. Fluorescent huge ceiling fixture. White walls. So I had a frame built on the ceiling aabove the cabinets, and sewed this fabric (a real 50's pattern), spraypainted knbs, put in track lights, and painted two colors: the persimmon on the backsplash and a warm cream on the rest. One bronze color industrial shelving unit for pots, and voila!

    kitchenkitchen

Best i can do for pix right now.

    So onto the bedroom!

Looking for work. Have turned down 3 offers which involved lots of travel, which killed me to do since the money was so good. Especially in this economy. But I know that won't work for me. Have another interview on Monday for a non-Oracle job, going back to what I did a looooong time ago- Purchasing. We'll see how that feels.

Ventured into a mall with my mom yesterday who is visiting for the week from Virginia. Christmas carols! Christmas decorations! Oh my!  It brought to mind what a miserable Christmas I had last year (since i was on the road and only had Christmas Day off). I am hoping for a different outcome this year!!!

Much love you all. Would very much like to hear from Twilah and Pat if they are up to it. We worry about you!!!!

Leah...I love what you did with your kitchen.   The colors are terrific.  I went more subdued with an ivory.  I will have to download some pics of my kitchen facelift.  My kitchen seems much more cluttered though...more people to feed and store things for.  Too many small appliances...the thing is though that I use them!    It sure makes you feel good to clean up and update your surroundings.   I too need to paint the bedroom.

I am also worried about Twilah and Pat.    I looked up our TinkC (Tammy) on the members list...remember her, she had her little baby Aubree in between her chemos...well it looks like she is stage IV and on oxygen.   I had sent her a PM several months ago, but she never answered.  I think we should all add her to our prayer lists.

Alyson....how is the little princess, Beatrix?

Still hobbling around on the mending foot...the pin should come out tomorrow, if the xrays are okay.

My rads onc said I could wait until May for next mammo...that would be a year.  But I see the surgical onc this month and wonder what she thinks about that.   My radiated breast feels like there are a couple lumps, but the rads onc didn't notice anything and says it could be scar tissue.   Still, it worries me.   I guess there is just no sense in worrying.  What will be, will be  or won't be.   That is my motto these days!

My DD#1  is going to go into the National Guard...she wants to go to Law School and can go in as an officer into the Judge Advocate service.   They will pay for law school and pay off her student loans.   Sounds like a good plan, but I worry.  What if she gets deployed?   Jan...how do you not worry about your DS constantly??

DD#2 was told by her college adviser that she is actually a Sophomore.   She did "College in High School" and has enough credits to make her a sophomore.  She is doing well, although not getting very many work hours, so her spending money is very tight.   But she is doing well and loves it there.  She has only been home once...the weekend Paul Bunion left!  We have gone over several times.  We need to go over soon....I have some contact lenses for her.

DS#1  is busy commuting to PennState for classes daily...he is a hunter and trapper and with work too, I don't see him alot...he is in and out.

DS#2, is almost 17...got his drivers license and has "freedom"   He is working as a dishwasher in a local restaurant.   Looking forward to baseball practice starting in Jan...can you believe that?

Soooo....DH and I find ourselves home alone and enjoying our freedom too!   Haven't had that for the last 25 years!  We are finishing up the house ...staining and varnishing doors that were never done.....putting down baseboards that were never done....next is closet doors, that currently don't exist!   He had built everything himself  and with raising kids, tight money etc, some things just got put on hold.    So time to remodel, before the house is even finished!    But it really looks nice.

Carynn...you are probably resting after the elections....did you work at a polling place?

    Well....enough long windedness....hope everyone is well....love you all~!

Leah, congrats on the kitchen job... I never remodelled anything "personally"... always watched DH or others doing the work... mind you, it's a good thing I did not started a major painting job: I seriously strained my right hand/wrist on Monday and am waiting for x-ray verdict... does not hurt too bad, the swelling is down a bit, but even knitting is not the thing to do... so paint brushes would not have been the thing either... I am so mad at myself.

Leah, the treadmill is not very big and it folds up very easily: DH saw the add at Sears and we got everything, delivered and installed, for just under or at 500$ (tax included). It works very well, and definitely provide aerobics exercise. Calories are always the root issue though: the unfair side of it is that some people do not eat that much but have a slow metabolism and others never pay attention and burn everything very quickly. I am at a plateau (57-58kg for 5" 3"), but the weight is now muscle mass (although I am not "lean" on my stomach, but it is slowly improving). Walking is the easiest, cheapest and nicest of all routines, I think... it is also easier to skip dessert than burning those calories through exercise... although I love to fix pastries and bake goodies, we drastically "slowed down" for everyday meals. It has become a special occasion thing. DH is very determined and disciplined and wanted to lose weight (stomach). He has never been heavy (he is skinny), but like everybody else, at age 67, fat is centered on the belly... he did lose much more than me... I can't give up my square of dark chocolate with my afternoon coffee, and have  to watch my portions (key issue in my case)... but I am also determined to work hard on it without giving up good nutrition (yogourt and kefir help me if I feel too hungry to wait until lunch or diner, a glass of water or ice tea helps, too).  I am back to taking brewster yeast (B complex) with a big glass of water before a meal (fills you some) because it is good for hair and nails, and Aromasin is terrible on hair: thinner, limp, straight... leafy greens, and veggies are always my choice over carbs (pasta, etc.) and whole grains, too. and beans for fiber and proteins (I put a can of black beans into the blender, or navy, or whatever, lentils work well, too, and use that as a thickener for veggie soup). I chew gum a lot, too... helps me forget about food, and it is good for your face muscles and brain blood circulation... :-)  even if it is not "distinguished", as my mom would put it...

But do not put the bar too high: a little more everyday is better than nothing. The more you walk and exercise, the more you need it (addictive... endorphines are great to feel good and upbeat). Mornings are better than evenings (exercise late in the day, they say, is not good for your sleep). Play music, danse in your new kitchen... everything that make us move is good and feels good... I think that dogs are an essential ingredient, but you have to be home...

Terry, hope your foot will feel fine soon. You sound incredibly busy too on your house... good for you. I am saddened by the news about this young mom (I wrote to her too but never got an answer either). I'll try to find her news.

Alyson, so happy for you and your family, having this little new girl around. I saw the 2-week-old baby next door: boy, he's tiny... it's nice to be headed into summer  weather for this little one... enjoy!

Caryn, SammieKay, Marsha, Pat, Twink, Melanie, Vegas (??), LuckyMel, Jan (wild about horses and [great] photography), thinking of you and hoping life is not too hard right now. Come visit, even briefly... Hugs to all,

    Catherine

Hi All.  Judging from the few additions since I briefly checked in a few weeks ago, I would guess we've all returned to the pre-BC ratrace?   Alyson - how wonderful to have a new baby to coddle.  Hoping my DD has success in her plans for next year.

Terry - you're probably not hobbling much anymore - hopefully you're able to enjoy the rest of your time off with less discomfort.   I smiled when I read about your 'too many small appliances'.  My sister always says she's the queen of countertop appliances - I don't really think so.  I gave up fighting the urge to buy all these new gadgets that come out - built a series of shelves in the basement where I can take the ones I use infrequently and keep a cart and a tall narrow set of shelves, both the same style as Leah's, in the kitchen and hall.  Keep the much-used stuff on those.   I even have an appliance in the basement I haven't opened yet.

Leah - Your kitchen is beautiful and it's so much more so because you did it yourself.  I've been wanting to email you - I faxed my application for the CFR retreat at Skytop (in the Poconos).  Just a couple weeks ago, I got back into the fitness routine.  My implant surgery was September 8th and he told me to DO NOTHING for 6 weeks - not even gently walk the dog.  So, I kicked it into high gear about 3 weeks ago.  I've heard if your dog's overweight, you're not getting enough exercise so I took it to heart.  My first week was outside, 2nd week on the treadmill (it was cold) and now this week outside again.  Much easier to be outside with Transiberian Orchestra hammering on my brain - usually when I'm on the treadmill, I have QVC or GMA on TV.  I really think I'm going to try to stay outside unless it's frigidly cold.  Maybe that's your solution Leah - since you're giving up your road show, maybe you can get an overweight dog Cool    I also gave up white flour and we never did eat sugar.  All our pasta, rice and bread (if we even eat any)  is whole wheat.  So, we're both eating much healthier but I haven't lost any weight.  My slacks are starting to feel quite loose tho so I must be burning some fat.  I heard on the radio a couple weeks ago that if you walk very briskly 30 minutes a day 6 days a week, you can eat anything you want.   (That's what I'm working for.)

Hugs to  Catherine, Marsha, Pat, Jan, Twink, Melanie, SammieKay, Caryn and anyone I missed.  btw - was there an October get-together?

can you beat this?  I just got back from the foot doctor, cuz my foot has been killing me for two weeks- and it is fractured!  I have to wear a moon boot thing for like six weeks. And not drive unless I take it off, which he told me not to do, but I will have to from time to time.

This week is truly funny... gynie check, had three old fillings replaced, and now a plain old stress fracture in my foot. I am appreciating the mundane-ness of it!!!!!

    Hugs!

Welcome Leah to the MoonBoot club!    I have been in one for 4 weeks now....hobble, hobble!   It is mundane!   It is kind of nice to have something that is not "serious"!    I have gynie week after next.   How boring!

    Good Luck!

Catherine;  I love when you write a nice long post.  Even dieting sounds interesting when you describe it.

Leah;  The condo is lovely.  I know you are enjoying your time there.  I love love love Dr. Ian Smith's Fat Smasher diet.  I have been traveling so much lately that I have gained back a bit of the 18 lbs that I lost on it.  I buy the already cooked brown rice in individual servings (MInute Rice) and mix that with brown beans or a small can of mixed peas and carrots, a little lite soy sauce and I am full.  I have cereal and fruit for breakfast and a lunch of salad with a side of beans.  That is my normal routine.  This is such a healthy lifestyle diet.

Phyl;  So nice to see  you!

Terry;  I too enjoyed that time when my 4 children were old enough that DH and I had a bit more time alone.

Sammie;  Have a blast at that reunion!

I am just so saddened to hear the news about Tink.  I can't even imagine what she is going through.  I wish there was something we could do.

Nothing much new with me.  We are just very busy with construction projects and business travel.  I have routine scans next Wednesday.  We all know how much fun that is.  They actually moved my time up to 7:15 am as they are taking down the equipment for maintenance right after my scans.  Hmmmmm....that makes me feel secure.

    Thinking of everyone.....

Melanie, good luck for your upcoming tests. I never get scans, just blood work...??  Got the D level back today: disappointing... 37.7 (range is 32 to 100), and if I understand things right (although the labs do not have standardized procedures yet on this), it would be better closer to 50... so I will get supplements after all... Hillary, hello... what is your take on this one?  I thought that all the walking in Colorado sun (early hours, though) would be enough...

Also no broken or cracked bones in my wrist... big sigh of relief... hurts, though, but I am less worried... :-)

Alyson, how is baby B. doing?

Twink, Pat... missing your posts, the Texas girls... wishing you are both doing OK...

    Big hugs to all,

    Catherine

Catherine...glad no bones are broken.   But sometimes a sprain can be more painful.   Hope you heal quickly.

Good luck, Melanie...let us know how your tests came back.

Twilah and Pat.....how are you....we are worried about you (((((((((((Twilah & Pat))))))))))))))

    Love

Well, I can't believe it has been a week since the reunion.  I was so tired when I got home.  We ran around the whole weekend.  Had a BLAST!!!  It was awesome.  Two women who were bridesmaids in my wedding came from far, far away.  It was so much fun.  Just like moving back in time.  We visited our old Elementary School and reminished about our teachers and classes from grades 1 to 6.  We also went through our old Jr.High and High School.  Our class had 84 students.  We have lost 17 members and about 50 showed up, so quite a good turnout.

Leah, loved your pics of the kitchen redo.  Looks great.  Hope you foot is doing better.  If it's not one thing it is another.

Terry, are you "bootless" yet?  Hope you are doing well.  Enjoying the new found freedom.

Catherine, how is the wrist?  Not interfering with you walks with the pups?  I think about getting a treadmill, but I have a very poor history with exercise equipment.  Right now I have a "Hangups" inversion table.  I hurt my back on that one.  It was supposed to help, but didn't.  Then we have a Gazelle thingy and it hurts my back also.  So, I think my husband would balk if I talked about another piece of equipment.  Maybe I could sell those two on Ebay and then buy a treadmill.LOL.I really, really need to start exercising.  I have just gotten my back pain under control.  I had an epidural steroid injection last Wed. and it seems to have  helped.  Also started taking Aleve and that is helping too.  So maybe I will feel like getting out and walking.  You are a good role model.

Caryn, so good to hear from you and Phyl.  Wondering about Marsha, Twink, Pat, Hillary and all our group.

I too was sad to hear about Tink.  I hope that turns out to be a temporary situation with the need for oxygen.

Melanie, hope your scans were clean.  Sounds like you are staying busy with all your travel.  I ordered the Smith "Fat Buster's Diet" book.  I tried a little of it and got really, really gassy.  Ugh!  I am insulin resistant also, so not sure I sure eat so many carbs.  Although, the fiber should cut the carbs way down.l  I will read up in the book and see what I find.  I would love to lose 18 lbs.  I would be about where I need to be with that kind of weight loss.  Right before BC I had lost about 12 lbs using thyroid medicine.  I went to a Wellness Doc and my Internist was really alarmed because she didn't find me to need thyroid and told me it could put me in atrial fibrillation and cause lose of calcium.  I was also on topical hormones.  Then along came BC and I quit all of that stuff.  I gained about 10 lbs after I quit the thyroid and then while on Decadron with chemo, I gained another 10 lbs.

Well, I better get busy.  I want to be free by the time the Texas Longhorns start playing today.  I am a big-time "football junky".  I LOVE football,

One of these days, I will learn how to upload pics from my camera and put some of my remodel pics and reunion pics on this board.l

Hugs and warm thoughts to all my friends here.  Hope to hear how Twink and Pat are doing/  Somehow I don't feel "no news is good news" in this situation.  I have gnawing anxiety about you two girls.  Hope to get an update on you guys.  Love , Sammie Kay

Hi Sammie...I am worried too about Twilah and Pat....hoping they are busy and doing well.

I am still in my boot...the bone was not healed enough to pull the pin out, so we will xray again this coming Friday and see if it can come out after 2 more weeks of mending.   Doc thinks possibly the Femara (side effect of osteopenia) might be making the bone take a little longer to knit.

Just checking in, but I see nobody else has checked in...hope everyone is well!

    Hey Terry,

Sorry you are still in the boot.  Do you have to go back to work with the boot or do you get to stay off until you are 'boot-free'?  I too have osteopenia, but I had that before breast ca.  My last bone density was pretty good.  Still don't have osteoporosis.

Hi to everyone.  Hope you are all having a great weekend.  Hugs to all.  Sammie Kay

Scans are clean and that is always a great relief.  I know they are not 100% accurate and that is always a concern.  Tumor markers always fluctuate slightly and that is just annoying.  The "thing" we biopsied last time had shrunk...also a relief.  I seem to be doing very well.  I just wish the same for everyone else.

Sammie;  Sometimes, just plain sensible eating and watching our calories is the best long term answer to our weight issues.  I just wanted to kick start the weight loss some, so I went on the "diet", but it really is a sensible way to eat.  I love great food and I do indulge.  I don't want to deny myself the things I enjoy...I just try to enjoy in moderation.  Between Decadron and overeating in the 2 months before chemo, I just packed on about 20+ lbs and I just had not gotten serious about losing it until recently.  It certainly gets more difficult as I get older.

Terry;  Be careful!  Sometimes when we try to do too much before we are ready.  Take care to not re-injure.

I got to chat with Leah and that is always nice.  She better watch out...she will be talking with a southern "drawl" if she's not careful!

I am sure Twilah will pop in here and give a quicky "howdy" soon.  We all miss seeing her posts.

Thinking of you all...would love to hear from Marsha and Pat!  It's been a long time.
