Hello Ladies, I'm zooming by and haven't read all the postings...I hope everyone is well.  Although I, for one, would love to share a margarita if you have a spare glass...on the rocks please!

Hi Zogo, been busy lately? Haven't see you in a while. Seeing from your post time would you prefer coffee and a bagel with a SMEAR of cream cheese instead ?

I don't know about Wisconsin, but it's way too hot here for coffee, unless you like it iced. Just the thought of a hot beverage makes me want to get in a plane and go to Juneau. The high there today is 56 degrees, now that's the right temperature to enjoy a cup of joe! There's an Excessive Heat Warning today, and it's supposed to be just as hot tomorrow. Relief (i.e. cooler temperatures) predicted for Wednesday. I can't wait!

Curveball, really humid here, talking about sprinkles later this week. Iced coffee sounds refreshing. Hopefully cooler weather coming and if DD comes home, hopes she BAKES some of her goodies for me. Oh wait, I. Supposed to be losing weight, not gaining it!

Oh my, bagels and baked goodies are not part of my sugar & grain free way of eating.  But, I can always find a substitute. Dessert for me tonight was some blueberries w/ whipped cream.  Yes it's busy, I've got all my kids home plus house guests, I have spent lots of time helping my mother and it's Summerfest. Out late and up early. At least we have cool nights and mornings (to enjoy coffee).

Zogo, didn't realize you're both sugar and grain-free would be interested to know more about that as will as menus and what you cook. So your desserts are FAKED goodies instead?

2TA, when I faced the final reconstruction after my diep flap surgery, I told my plastic surgeon I would like to lose some weight. He said it would be best to do that first as that would give me the best results. I started my new way of eating on June 20, 2011.  About 6 months later, they found stage 1 colon cancer. In all the research I have done, it seems that cancer cells feed on sugar. So, I in addition to having lost weight, I saw a health benefit. Plus, I feel great. Don't get me wrong, the first 4 days are hell as you break the cravings, but once I get past that, I feel more energy, sleep better, my headaches are gone... I have seen Dr William Davis (author of Wheat Belly) speak twice. It all makes such sense for me.

So, bottom line, I have lost 30 lbs and aim to lose 20 more. I don't eat grains or sugar or starchy veggies and some of the sweeter fruit. What I do eat is meat, eggs, cheese, salads, vegetables like broccolli. cauliflower, asparagus, spinach, and berries. My coffee gets heavy whipping cream, I use butter and coconut oil and cream cheese.  I try to only use stevia and erythritol for sweeteners. My crutch is Mission brand low carb tortillas. They make a great quesadilla or taco.

Jane, that is awesome that you lost that weight and got healthier too! I am too tempted by all the sweet goodies, and I agree....if I could get past the first few days without sugar I would prolly do ok. So, did you adhere to what he wrote about in the Wheat Belly book? I might look at it sometime. Here in Vegas, there is food everywhere, and so many cafes too. Losing battle for me!

Jane, awesome job done! What a great weight loss, that's what I need. I need to read that Wheat Belly book. I know sugar is bad, bad, BAD! But it calls to me and FAKES me out, calling my name, tempting me. That's my biggest downfall!

Spoke with surgery nurse today. Says I can't drink tomorrow night with surgery Friday so I better get my glass of wine in tonight. Wahine, it should be quite a fireworks show in Vegas tomorrow, enjoy!

Curve, did it cool off today?

OH yeah, 2ta, Caesars is going to do a lot of fireworks, now to find the right spot to view. The heat is so bad ,it just bakes you, even at night! I finally had some wine tonight...it was all the beer or wine you wanted with dinner, but I could just handle one glass...DH couldn't even have a sip of his beer since he is now sick.Hope you enjoy some wine tonight! We'll be thinking of you on Friday, and praying ALL goes well!!!

@2TA, yes it did cool down today and what a relief! The last few days I was downing one glass of iced tea after another trying to slake my thirst. I am looking at changing my diet once I get in the new place. The book that I just read is called "The Starch Solution" by John McDougal MD. It advocates a vegan diet and like anyone with an axe to grind the author can be heavy-handed, for example calling animal protein a toxin. I don't think I would ever go as strict as what's described in the book, which is not just vegan but vegan without any added fat whatsoever and no processed foods whatsoever unless made with foods that are approved.

My issue with a lot of these diet books is they tell you that eating as they advise will solve a bunch of problems I don't have. I don't need to lose weight, in fact I could stand to gain a few pounds--but any weight I gain should be muscle so I need to get out there and work in the garden, not change what I eat. I'm nowhere near diabetic, my cholesterol is boringly normal and as for blood pressure it's a good thing I'm not any taller or the blood would never reach my brain. If I didn't have cancer, I'd be as healthy as a horse. I've been thinking about changing my eating habits since I read Anti-Cancer, and for environmental reasons even before that, but I've been scared to for fear I will gain back all the weight I lost years ago. But I think I will give it a try for a few months, perhaps until the end of the year. If the pounds pile on I can always go back to how I've been eating since I lost the weight. But if my weight stays normal and nothing else bad happens then I will have two plans that I know both work to keep my weight in the normal range and I can switch back and forth between them for variety.

Hope you have a smooth surgery and recovery. What surgery are you having? I searched your posts back a ways but didn't find one that said.

Thanks, ladies, will be ok, just want to be on the other side of this, that is, after I enjoy today!

Wahine, so glad you're getting back to the norm! Sounds like this hasn't been a great trip all around, hoping you can find some great times and not just a disappointment. Especially with all you've been through! Wondering if maybe your body is releasing stress in some strange way?

Zogo, is that your kitten for your avatar? Looks like a cutie!

Curveball, will have to learn more about this eating plan you've been on! I definitely need to change my diet for the better, maybe that's the lesson front this cancer this time. My diet is definitely less than perfect. It sounds like it has left you with a cool SLEEK body. For me, that would be a great result, losing all this weight I'm carrying around.

    Happy 4th of July!

@2TA, I started on the plan 11 or 12 years ago. At the time, it was called "Trim Advantage". I was an active Amway distributor, so not only was I losing weight, I was generating business volume by buying products for my own use. I'm still a distributor, but no longer active, so I didn't know the whole program was revamped in 2008 and now has a new name. (No link--that would be against the forum rules.) I haven't checked out the new program at al. I just kept on following the original version because it worked for me. Since my dx I've stopped eating the protein bars & so on because I'm ER+ and many of the products contain soy protein isolate which is now a no-no for me. But it's getting late and I'm tired from packing boxes all day. Time to hit the sack and get some sleep. There's a lot more to do in the next few weeks if the house is going to get on the market by the target date of August 1.

Oh, and I'm not sleek. Back when I was first investigating DIEP, even though I only weighed 122 lbs at the time, the PS said he'd have no trouble finding enough fat on me to reconstruct my breast.

Good Morning girls! Sending prayers and thoughts to you today, Maddy! WOW, at 122 and tall, the dr found fat on you, Curve??? They wouldn't have ANY trouble finding enough on me...enough for everyone...lol. OK, gonna leave this desert...wakeup call said it will be 109 today....going to get on an airplane for the steep climb up to the right altitude for safe flights home today. Can't wait to get cooler, and to hug our furbabies!!!!

@wahine, hope you are home hugging the furbabies by now and it's cool enough you can enjoy hugging something with fur on and a normal body temperature of over 100 degrees!

I'm not all that tall, I'm five-foot-seven. My DSIL is 5-10, now that's tall, but my brother she's married to is over six feet, so it's all in proportion. Even so 122 lbs is at the bottom end of how much I ought to weigh. I've seen pictures of me a few pounds below that (years ago when I was unemployed, not eating all that well, and worrying most of it off afterwards). At that weight (118) I was "scary skinny" as they say on the tabloid headlines. But not much of it is muscle. If you are looking for abs of steel, you will have to look elsewhere.

Wahine, hoping you are safely home and enjoying cooler weather. Not the best trip you've ever taken. Great to be home, or at LEAST out of the heat?

Curve, wow! Such great proportions! (Unless you're hiding weight in your toes, haha!) Regardless, you must be hot in clothes and especially a pair of jeans. Needing to try that eating plan, will be difficult to keep track of eating and weight if I'm going to be stuck in a chair for a while, hopefully not long.

2ta, Looks like you posted this 10 hrs ago? SO you made it through your surgery just fine, and are okay? Sure hope so, I have been concerned. Been praying for you and thinking of you!

Yes, its SO NICE to be back home, even though it has rained nonstop, it is much cooler than Vegas. That heat was a real beast!

Wahine, I vaguely remember yesterday. Wrote some emails and either I forgot to press send or my phone wasn't working. I didn't sleep straight thru like last time.

Glad that you're home safely! Did you have SEATS together on your flight? Even if its raining you can at least be in a really comfortable place and not have to fight the crowds and endure the awful heat. Sleep well!

Yes, we had seats together when they upgraded us, but only because a nice gentleman changed places with me. AND today Delta called asking if I left my Kindle in my seat pocket. So I had to explain to them where the man was sitting that changed places with me so they could locate him! I hope they were able to reach him, if it was his. Nice that they are trying to return the Kindle.

Even with all the rain we are having here, it at least does not feel like a STEAM bath as it would if we had the high temps we had in Vegas!

I'm glad everyone is home and enjoying/recovering.

My DH is a friend to every stranger, as well. I couldn't begin to count the number of times he has done a random act of kindness for a stranger. I tell you that man has some good karma built up somewhere.
