Sorry, CCFW, I forgot to include you in the hugs, so ((hugs)) to you too

Well I had a pleasant drive with my friends and they also brought lunch and helped me with some errands. They also brought yummy soup and we stopped on the way home and got french bread to go with it. I need to eat up the rest of that bread before it gets stale. Maybe for dinner tonight I will make some of my faux chicken soup (water, bouillon cube, noodles and frozen veggies plus some tofu for protein) and sop up the last drops with more bread.

Then I got a phone call from my brother 'cuz it's my birthday today. He said my SIL has had some sort of bug that has knocked her flat with total fatigue and a persistent cough for more than two weeks, so maybe whatever ails me is nothing to do with cancer or treatment but just an ordinary case of the "creeping crud".

I will ask the palliative care doc about vit B-12. My local onc is mostly opposed to supplements while on chemo. I think she suspects they may counteract standard meds in some cases, or just doesn't want to introduce an unknown factor. I'm sure many vitamin/chemo interactions have never been tested.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CURVE!

Oh YES, Happy Birthday Curve!!!!! Sounds like you had a nice day driving around your state. And good soup, yummmmmm! Sounds like you had a really nice birthday.

Oh, and if anyone wants to start on B12 that is not on it, if your ins covers B12 injections, that can be a good head start. My parents got that from their dr before starting on the pills.

Red, I really forget what the time frame was from when my DH got that dx of the retina tear, and his  follow-up appt not too much later, and really, the retina specialist was very pleased, and said the lutein prolly had a lot to do with it. Like you said, "time" could have played a factor too, but since our regular eye dr was also recommending it, we decided to take it. BUT if you saw all the vitamins and supplements my DH takes every day, you would be shocked!!! I just take the few that I really think might help.

Well, we went out to dinner with my parents tonight and we get to wake up at 3:30 am to get them to the airport on time for their early flt to Hawaii (well, it is 3 flights to get there). Considering just staying up.....

Wahine, sounds like B12 could have been a contributing factor to the recovery. Painless, easy to take, relatively inexpensive, surprised it's not recommended more.

Wishing you luck in waking up early! What part of Hawaii? DD in Oahu now, will have to check her F-B page to see which beach, I'm sure you'd know of it. If it's near, maybe they could suggest a good restaurant, DD doesn't eat beef but her BF loves steak.

Edited to add: Kuhio Beach, Waikiki

Oh, they are smack dab in Waikiki! Sooooo many restaurants on every corner or in every hotel. Every type of food imaginable to tease your taste buds. I hope they are having a good time! My parents will be on the other side of the island, and prolly have not eaten in Waikiki for many years. Do you think your DD will climb Diamond Head? It is not a hard climb, there are paths and stairs also, as you climb from the inside of the crater. The view from the top is AWESOME!

Wahine, your guess is probably better than mine! The only things she told me were the date of the flight and the island they're staying on. I found out the airline and flight since she left the boarding passes on her bed before they left. She had her clothes laid out: 4 bikinis, big sun hat, some dresses and casual clothes and of course shoes and tennis shoes. She posted a picture of a great big ice cream sundae from Jimmy Buffet's at the Beachcomber. I know nothing else. Wish she knew that a mom always cares, when she checks in, however brief, it eases my mind.

How are you doing today? A little rest before a busy week?

Curve, so happy your friends treated you well today! Are they impressed with all the work that's been done at your home?

Red and CC, how's your weekend going?

Maybe a little beer or a glass of wine would be good for me right now, too.

Maddy, I appreciate the sentiment but I'm just whining. I used to sit in the kitchen reading. Now I sit in the kitchen texting on BCO. He has no outlet and I think he's jealous of BCO. It's a case of deb isn't paying me attention but she is paying attention to others not reading a book. Really, how can he compete? You girls know ALL the chit involved in this. He has no real idea. Poor guy - he can't make it go away.

It's a case of rick tries to help MEETS he really has no way to do so.

Plus my mom was REALLY high maintenance today. So I feel like crap.

    {{{{Maddy}}}}} thanks for caring

@RedReading, I'm going to join the whine & cheese party and I didn't bring any cheese. I am fed up with feeling weak, tired and having to take pain relievers because my back hurts all the time! I really hope this is just a bug. Oh well, even though I'm complaining I have to admit this beats my birthday last year by a country mile, because last year on my birthday I'd just been admitted to the hospital with my lungs full of glop, and I was in for a whole week.

Curve, you still have 45 minutes left of your birthdayI wish I could post a bouquet of pretty flowers for you. Does a heating pad provide any relief for your back?

I'm having a pity party on another thread so I'll the whining here. It's your day and you get to whine. I feel the same way about birthdays, last year was probably the worst ever, this was better but not by much. Seems like there are several seats at this whine and cheese (hold the cheese) party.

Well, today is going better than yesterday. My DH is smiling again. It's amazing just how much another person's mood affects you, isn't it. He says I zone out and just STARE off into the distance and I guess that drives him crazy.

Curve, sorry about your back but happy that this birthday was better than the last one.

Maddy thanks for your offer of a PM. I think I just didn't want to think anymore last night. You know?

Have to go get groceries so I'll talk to you all later. :-)

Whew, I just got on here, and didn't know what went down last night. Isn't it sweet how the gals here really are "here" for each other! Love it. But sorry you were so down last night, Deb...glad today is better. And yeah, I think the guys don't always get it....and to get jealous because someone is chatting with girlfriends on the computer. They don't always realize how much we NEED each other. But my DH does that with anything...if I say something to the dogs, he has to then turn it around to something about HIM, etc. So funny. Also sad your DD was so upset, but of course she is, because she loves you a lot and is going to worry, regardless. I do hope you were able to calm her down, it sounds like you did. I missed the WHINE and cheese party though.

I think its funny that when we first starting owning personal computers, and all offices had computers, it was thought that it would cut down a lot on paper usage. NOT! I use reams of paper (really) just printing out sales confirmations, recipes, and all sorts of information. I do save some on the computer, but then when they crash, unless you have created a backup, it is lost.

Curve, I am so glad this birthday was better than the last one! Hoping for an even better one next year. Wish your pain could go away though. What do you take for your back? Mine kills me sometimes, lots of deterioration in my spine. Started taking some Duexis...it is like 4x tylenol strength, plus has something to coat the tummy. I think alleve works better for me, but this is supposed to be safer....who knows though. I just wish you could find some relief!!!!

Maddy, you are so sweet to be here for everyone!!!  CC sent me some nice pm's too....very sweet! As well as Maddy, and Curve! Sheila hasn't been on for awhile, and we had a couple of other regulars, but the names escape me right now. Come on back everyone!!!!

Got up at 3:30 and took my parents to the airport. My mom looked so pretty and perky and was happy. She looked that way last night too. Seems to make a big difference when she DOES take her meds as she is supposed to. When she misses doses, she gets really worn down and tired and doesn't want to do much.

Thanks for the kind words Kathy, some days I just run out of STEAM before the day ends and I am in the dumps. Yesterday was one of those.

Today we celebrated my dd's bday, she will be 44 tomorrow. Where did the time go? Birthday person gets to pick dinner - she chose spaghetti, Caesar salad, garlic toast with cheese and fruit salad. My DIL baked her a cake called 'Better Than Sex'. All chocolate and caramel and whipped cream and mini Reece's pieces. (omg Kat - Reece is a dog) I don't care for desserts, especially cake, but I always have my 'no thank you' portion to celebrate the birthday girl. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. It was sooooo good.

Back to work tomorrow. Boo. Can't wait for my vacay, which is in 5 days. Sun fun & rum, here I come!

Oh shoot. This birthday dinner thing? I need to tell you that I have 5 kids and 4 of them have bday's within 2 weeks of the Christmas holiday. Dec 12, 15, Jan 1, 13. So I've been cooking a lot for the last 5 weeks. And of course,  they all come for the other's bday's. Reg picked steak and loaded baked potatoes with Caesar salad, Jenn picked beef back ribs with rice and garden salad. Tammi went for prime rib roast with mashed potatoes and garden salad. In the middle was turkey and ham for Christmas. We sure aren't going hungry. Lol

@ wahine, I have been taking OTC acetaminophen for my back most of the time. I have some prescription strength that has hydrocodone in it too, but I take those as little as possible—I don't want to get addicted. The pills don't seem to do a thing for the muscle aches either. My friends who came yesterday have heated seats in their car and I think that really helped a bit. I have been putting mentholatum rub on my back, and that seems to help a little. Today I just stayed home all day and lay in bed. I felt a little perkier when I woke up today so maybe it is a bug and I'm starting to get over it. I sure wish I felt like doing something other than complaining about how poorly I feel!

@ RedReading, my family has a bunch of birthdays all mixed in with the holidays too—my mom and grandmother (when she was alive) plus at least two or three nieces in November, then Thanksgiving, then another niece, then Christmas, then my sister's birthday, mine and my aunt's in early January and my older brother on the 31st. There's another bunch in the summer too.

Curve, back pain is SO awful, can bring me to tears. Funny how you enjoyed the heated seats in your friends car, because we have that too, and I hate them! Do theirs heat the seat back also, or just the seat? Ours just heat the seat area, and my DH uses it all the time. When he leaves it on and I don't know it, I find out very quickly when my butt starts burning up! LOL. But it gets me waaaay too hot, so I don't use that feature. They do have heated seat pads that you can use in the car, I wonder if that would help you in your car? Is it one piece with the seat and back, and the older ones used the cigarette lighter. I am sure the newer ones prolly have a usb port or something, to connect to your car. I still get hot flashes, so anything can get me tooo hot.

We have a lot of December b'days too....my DH, my Dad, and my SIL are 3 days right in a row, then my g'dau, and my DD2 (the 26th). ITs nice that you still fix a special meal for the b'day "child", Red. How nice! And nice that everyone gets together. We rarely do, since we have been so busy the past few years.

Started my new "eating plan" this morning...hope to get used to this so I at least do this drastic part for a month, then get into an easier plan. Have a good day, girls!

Hi girls, Well, luckily they did not have to crate me up, and carry me away. I had a HARD fall, backwards, on the treadmill this afternoon. I was just getting started, walking at 3mph, when suddenly it sped up and threw my legs up and I fell so hard on my back. Don't know how it malfunctioned, now it won't even go on, but it didn't throw the cirucit breaker. Could not get up for awhile, and am in excruciating pain, but using ice and alleve. I am most concerned with whether or not I can still help my DD. My DH said he will go there in the morning to watch the g'kids, as the pain might be worse for a couple of days. Do I have bad timing or what????? She will be in the hospital tomorrow, getting the feeding tube put in.

Maddy, this is the "Super Shred Diet" which is very strict for 4 wks, PLUS you are supposed to do 40 min of exercize a day, well I just blew that, didn't I. Most lose 20 lbs, and then go on the less restrictive Shred Diet. Actually my book just arrived today, but I got the info and the first weeks food choices from good morning america. They may still have it on their site. I like the choices as its very versatile, and you eat all the time, just not very much. Now I am all upset that my FIRST day of getting back to exercizing,  this happens. Aarrggghhhh. But it could have been worse. Since I can move, I am hoping nothing serious happened.

Oh Kathy, what an unfortunate accident. How did the thing speed up like that? My doc told me to alternate ice and heat when I fell. Said the heat loosens the stiff muscles while the ice reduces inflammation. So 15 ice 15 nada 15 heat 15 nada. Hope it feels better soon.

CC, how nice to find a doc you respect. The fact that she reads impresses me too. So many don't so that really RATES high with me.

Curve - hey good to know that I am not the only one surrounded by Holiday birthdays. My dad and mom also have birthdays in that time frame but it's different with them. A card for my dad and dinner with my mom at Red Lobster.

Maddy, thanks again for joining my whine and cheese (hold the cheese) party the other night. I was really down and you and curve and CC and Kat made me feel better. Like you really cared how I was feeling. Everybody says to take on less, but it seems the further I go in this journey the more people want and expect from me. It's weird. I hear people say, let your loved ones look after you. But all of a sudden they've become really needy. I'm sure there is some psychological reason for it, but that doesn't make it go away. And I am not a no kind of girl, so I go out of my way to help. Ahhhhh, chit! I'm whining again.

OK going for a hot tub and a brewski. O hey, 4 days till Vacay! Got my tickets today! Wooohoooo.

    Hi girls!

Deb, I am not sure how it happened....whether it malfunctioned, or if I accidentally hit the "10" speed while hitting the "up" button? I don' t like to hit the actual speed I want, as it surges, then settles into it, so am wondering if that is what happened. Then because I was leaning forward to hit that up button, and not holding on, maybe is why I went flying? I don't know, and haven't been able to get upstairs yet to look at it. Yes, I meant to start the heat/ice today, but am at my DD's house and just brought my ice. Will start the heat when I get home this afternoon/evening. I took some meds, which made it possible to get some sleep, as well as to come to my DD's. Still lots of pain, but better with meds! Your vacay is almost here...yay!!

OH, and Curve, I am glad you mentioned the heated car seat, as I DID use mine this morning, since the pain goes down to my tailbone, and it did seem to get heat there. Otherwise I never would have thought to use it.

Had to leave the house with no makeup on, glad I won't need to stop at the store today!

@wahine, I never knew a treadmill could go haywire like that! I hope between meds, heat & ice you feel better soon. You are right, back pain is miserable, and I am glad mine has abated quite a bit over the last few days. Do be careful for several days. I didn't start really hurting until the week after I was in that car crash.

Today I need to go to the airport and pick up my mom. She went to Southern CA to help my middle aunt celebrate her 90th birthday Sunday. Mom will be disappointed, but I really think I am just going to take her to the curb in front of her house and then turn around and come right home without even going in. I feel a tiny bit perkier again today, but I suspect the airport pickup will probably put me back to square one as far as my energy level is concerned. I may or may not stop at IKEA going or coming, to get some drawer dividers so I can continue with unpacking my kitchen things. Even if I don't stop, I'll probably have to break into my emergency rations tonight. I've eaten all the leftovers I had that are enough for a dinner, and don't think I will have enough energy left when I get home to fire up the stove and cook anything from scratch. In fact I believe I will get off here and lie down for a while to conserve energy for the drive.

Hi Wahine. Hope you are feeling better tonight. It's still really weird how it sped up and the fact that it won't go at all now leads me to think it malfunctioned.

How did your DD's appointment go today? She has another tomorrow, right? Poor baby. I keep trying to think of ways to relieve her anxiety. Yesterday was music, today is a teddy bear or other favorite stuffed animal that she can hold until it's time, then they can put it where she can see it during.

Curve, I hope you're feeling better too. I would say to try to keep your energy up, but that is one of those things that people who have no idea how hard it is to live with bc say. So I won't. Nice of you to do the airport run for your mom. You sound kinda like me, lessons on saying no when not feeling well would be good.

Please say it ain't so. Don't tell me you like IKEA!! Aarrrrggghh! I hate the way they lead you through the store like you are cattle. I always buy stuff, but never anything I have to assemble with their 59 page instruction book and special Allen keys.

Maddy, haven't heard from you here in a couple days. You okay? ((hugs))

CC haven't heard from you either. What's up?

OK now for a funny story. Came home from work last week and my DH says I was on the shopping channel today (he ROVES through the channels, I pick one and stay there) For me that is the cue to say what did you buy me? So he says he bought me a Ho. I said how much did she cost? He said two hundred mumble mumble dollars. I said she better be worth it cuz that is one expensive Ho. And I hope she cooks too!

Turns out he bought Dr. Ho's muscle tingling/zapping thing. Supposed to relax you. It might if you can get though seconds of nice massage punctuated by occasionally intense pain as it zaps you electrically. Omg.

Anyway. Have a lovely evening all!

Red, I was on here yesterday, just a quickie, though. Sometimes, I don't have much to say or sometimes not much time to say it. DH was home yesterday so my "free" time was limited!

Curve, my DD and I call it Ikea City as it's so huge! But, Red, you're right, it can be a maze, I just cut thru ours (I know the short cuts so I can get exactly what I want and leave without leaving behind a ton of $$$). Curve, you can always stop and get a meal to go, they have the take home stuff too?

Wahine, hope you're feeling better, if even just a bit. What exactly is your dad being honored for? Funny, when I read about that, made me think that my DD is there, too, he's in Honolulu which is on Oahu, right? I don't know much about Hawaii. DD raves how great Hawaii is, I think a large part is that she's on vacation! It's not like Cali is having freezing weather right now that so many of the continent is experiencing (US and Canada). Funny, the only way I'm finding out about her is through F_B, though.

Out visiting my parents now, my youngest brother has had business local so he wanted to see me. He hasn't seen my parents in over 5 years, I think mom's condition is eye-opening for him. There's someone I've "met" thru BCO and PM and hoping we can meet in person tonight or tomorrow, maybe for Starbucks.

Red, no new word? So I need to go off my old one?

oops, looks like I got busted. Thanks Red! It's so much easier for me to comment on all of you than focus on me. I just want this year to turn around so I'm hiding out whenever possible, saves me on tissues and crying.

Whine for one please, hold the cheese! Still irritated DD has been in Hawaii for almost a week, nothing more than a 4-letter text (here, get your mind out of the gutter). Her dad is really hurt. And she expects us to detail and get a car ready for her to sell while she's gone (after we both worked on her "new" to her car). So, big surprise when she gets home and we haven't done a thing!

Still feeling badly that a brother was in the area (from northern Cali), spent several days in Disneyland then out to my parents taking the freeway by my house (2 miles from the freeway) and no offer to meet for coffee or a meal. Then a measely text saying he was busy (8 days in the area and too busy for 1 hour or even 15 minutes?) I think not. Then my dad defended him! If it were the other way around, I would have gotten hell for not making the effort.

First thing this morning, when to State office to find out job training/retraining so I can get a job. That was a joke! BIG waste of time. On a good note, the other brother was out the last couple of days for business. Got a text last night he wanted to meet with me at my parents. He was here only a couple of hours, but we got to have dinner together, he got to see Mom and Dad's new home (and he knows now why this IS the perfect place for them), and he got to see how bad mom is. He hasn't figured out that the best way to deal with her is to ignore her and not engage because it becomes a battle. He has a 250 mile drive home, was surprised he didn't want to spend the night here as he originally planned, maybe the reality of Mom's Alzheimer behavior was too much for him.

Just after he left, we heard a loud pop! Turns out mom put a can of root beer in the freezer and it popped, exploded all over the place. I didn't want in the kitchen so she could track it all over the new carpeting but she was being difficult (Dad took her to a back room).

Trying to decide whether to stay here or go home (only 35 miles away). If I stay, I may get to meet a BCO gal (from another thread), maybe not, she has a real life, I don't. The San Diego ladies are getting together this weekend and I would love to join them for lunch. Might be too much to ask to do both.

Red, don't you wish you didn't ask about me??

PS When to you leave again? CRAFT disease kicking in .
