Lets conduct our own study on how we all got breast cancer

LOL at McD's jingle! thanks
I think the "special sauce" is nothing more than thousand island dressing.
0 -
But it's "special"! It must be two thousand island dressing!
I saw a site that said to enter your information & it would calculate your risk of getting bc. So I entered all my info as it was just before I found the lump. 3% chance of getting bc w/in the next 5 years. Sigh

i think the special sauce isn't as special as you girls think...I have some little insiders that will remind me again how to make it....
BUT you know what they say...the secret's in the sauce...
Maybe i got BC because of all the perm fumes and color fumes I inhale trying to make my straight hair curly and my greys blend in....THEN coated it in hairspray!!! Maybe it was all those times I dropped a hot roller or a hot curling iron on my poor old boobs trying to get a decent harido....come to think of it the BC WAS in the side I burned the most!!! DANG IT!!!! Guess I'll get brain cancer too from burning my forehead!!!
0 -
Did anybody pern your hair a lot and too frequently?
0 -
Yep, and our perms, back in the day, consisted of more lye than anything else. Of course I wanted my hair to be absolutely straight so I left it in long after it started to burn. Had scabs in my hair for days after, that's how badly my scalp was burnt. Bet that helped give me BC!!!
0 -
Patoo, maybe the problem isn't the perms at all it's that we don't/didn't follow directions very well..
0 -
No, I always went to a salon, never did them myself so I'm not gonna claim that. I have enough things that I can blame on myself. Oh, but, yeah, I did sit there and tell the stylist I was okay when she was ready to wash it out and I could feel my scalp burning.
I know, stupidity gave me BC!
0 -
if it's stupidity then i am the # 1 candidate...maybe if you add up all the times you put your foot in your mouth or all the times you embarassed the heck out of yourself it gives you a percentage of your risk.....
Maybe it's related to all that cranking we did on the old fashioned ice cream churns...

I grew up on a farm. We had a few dairy cows. In the winter, we had a little electric heater to put in buckets so the water wouldn't freeze. My father was good at playing tricks on people and must have thought it would be hilarious to form a line with my 2 brothers and put me at the end of it, while Dad was the beginning of the line and put his hand into the bucket of water with the electric heater in it. Thank goodness the shock wasn't bad, but I did receive the shock since I was at the end and not grounded. That's what gave me bc.

OUCH!!!! What guys won't do for a little fun...
edited to say: there were a lot of possible zingers from that story but I took the high gorund and left it alone...I wanted to be sympathetic not a smart *##

Thanks. I could think of some, too.

Yes all the perms for 80's big hair.
Let's not forget the Sun-in. I used it so much when I lived in Fl my auburn hair turned blond and than when I quit using it my hair was never the same, it was much darker. I am a natural red head, my uncle used to call me Oppy(Ron Howard in the Andy Griffin show)

A rumour went round our school that you "could give a person cancer by banging them on the back".My brother tried it out on me,,,,so yeah..I guess thats what did it.

Nah, Jezza - that would have given you back cancer. Only if he used a bat would it have gone all the way through to your boobs.0
-
Well it was a pretty hefty bang cos I still remember it to this day (he really was mean..) !
Then again I had the 80's perms and the blonde highlights for more years than I care to remember.

Jezza, I have 2 sisters but no brothers. People sometimes would ask if I would have liked to have a brother. I guess you wouldn't be surprised that I answer no.

Lastnight as I was dishing out Cheetos for my dd, I realized maybe it was the food dye added to all the yummy junk food!!!!
0 -
I wonder if tumors are bright orange?
0 -
Man I love cheeses and cheetos Must of been my downfall.
0 -
As hard as it is to get that orange off your hands from cheetos and doritos it IS a possibility
That and RED Kool-aid or popsicles...
Maybe it was those orange push-ups
0 -
I loved orange push-ups, forgot all about them, and I'm sure I consumed all kinds of food dyes in popcicles and kool-aid, and those funny plastic tubes with colored sugar water, you combine the dyes with the plastic, that combo was sure to cause cancer
0 -
Yep, it is the food dye combined w/ plastic. The switch from glass to plastic pop bottles.
0 -
yep- there was nothing like that cold bottle of coke on a hot day...rub the cold bottle across your forehead..AHHHHHH
I think we ate all kinds of stuff with food dye..
We acually played OUTSIDE....till DARK...didn't worry about being stolen by strangers and we caught lightning bugs and played games and drank from the water hose...no doubt that hose gave us chemicals from baking in the hot sun....heck it's a wonder we survived without cellphones, nintendos and PSP games...be actaully had board games and played cards...and knew how to think for ourselves...HOW DID WE DO IT??????
0 -
Yes we would be gone from dawn til the street lights came on. Growing up was soo much fun, then playing hide n go seek after dark when the adults played cards or had bowling night and all the cousins were together.
Bettysgirl you are onto something about drinking out of the hose, that adn running through the sprinkler, all that hose water!!!!!
Boy did you bring back fond memories for me.
I wish I know how to contact those cousins, since they were from my mom's side of the family and they need to know about the BRCA2+ test results.

Wasn't coke in those old glass bottles absolutely the best, don't think it's tasted as good since then, although the invention of the "New Coke" in the eaerly 80's did make me change to diet coke, not that it made me lose any weight, actually gained weight, but probably more from the getting older than the diet coke lol.
It was great in the "good old days" playing outside from day light until dark, we didn't have street lights here when I was growing up, just the fire flies, now there are so many lights you can't even find them, guess there are still some fire flies around here. We played in the red clay a whole lot too, maybe it had something in it that caused cancer? The normal ground here is so sandy they had to haul in the red clay to build roads, never been the same since....

A side trip to remember and boy oh boy do I think about how glad I grew up when I did. All that you say, playing outside with neighbors until dark, catching fireflies and then high school dances without piercings, pants below panties and music that had a melody and lyrics... talking on the phone... well, that probably gave me breast cancer... I spent a LOT of time on the phone...
Rock concerts when they'd give away the t shirts and play until the cops shut them down...
Sex when the worst that could happen was pregnancy or herpes- not AIDS.
0 -
well we might not be closer to figuring this thing out but we sure are re-living some good memories while we're trying...
That was one thing that amazed me when we were in PA dutch country...you looked out in the fields at night and the fireflys were so many you couldn't begin to count...it was soooo beautiful and we were finally able to show the grandbabies all about "lightning bugs"
who else remembers having to eat in another room on Sunday while the parents and grandparents had their Sunday Lunch, then you went outside on the porch while grandmother cleaned the dishes...I can see my grandfather reared back in his rocker,,,telling us stories....I can almost smell his pipe smoke.. and my grandmother made the yummiest caramel cake!!!
SEE!!! that's why I have BC!!! All the good memories revolve around FOOD!! NO WAIT!!! that's what made me fat not gave me BC!!! LOL
0 -
Staying up late to watch Saturday Night Live... when it was GOOD gave me breast cancer
0 -
Besides eating in another room, do you remember that kids went last after the women. Men were first.

I met a woman today who had BC about 8 years ago - she's fine now - and attributed it in part because she is so thin. And I thought it was because I am so not thin!
