whitedove: My onco prescribed Effexor (an anti-depressant) for me for Tamox SE.
I also have lab orders to do 1 week before every onco appointment. He checks a variety of things, including liver panel, each time. I'm 1 year post mx now and still on a 3 month check up.

Tinkertude...when I was taking the full dose of tami all at once, I felt pmsy all over again...and I have not had pms since I ended my cycles 22 months ago!...but I felt emotionally strung out, ready to burst into tears or lash out at someone and definitely not in the mood for talk...sounds like you took good care of yourself today by not taking any calls!! Way to take care of yourself..hip hip hooray!

Awww tinkertude, I have those days too!! Hope tomorrow is a better day for you.
I was on the 50,000 IU Vit D2 a day for 4 weeks and Oncologist had said to take 2,000D3 a day after that. Well, after reading the Vitamin D thread here and some other research (and finding that it can take a while to get levels up) and with my level at very low 17, I decided to do 5,000D3 a day instead. When I got my levels checked again recently (went up to 37.5) she asked how much I was taking. I told her the 5,000. She said to keep taking that and we'll check again in about 3 months. She said she would like to see my levels at around 70-80. So, I'm glad I went with the 5,000, I want those levels up! Once they are around 70-80 I will do the 2,000 daily as a maintenance dose.

My Vit D level was 27 and my onc said, "So that's not too bad", and didn't advise I increase it or anything. She just said keep taking Caltrate with Vit D like that would be enough. I don't think so! Some ladies' oncs have told them it should be up around 60, so I've been taking Vit D3 supplements, 2000 mg. But is D3 for cancer or endocrinology issues? I'm confused - again.
Totally agree on the tiredness of it all, but I just finished rads Dec. 21st and they say it can last 6-8 weeks so maybe it's not the tamoxifen.
I'm sleeping fine, compliments of Clonazepam but I would really like to make the switch to Glycine, is it? But right now, I'm just enjoying sleeping like a log. However, I'm still exhausted - sleep doesn't help. I can't wait to go to bed tonight because it's sooooo cold and I want my electric blanket!
Tinkertude - tamoxifen does the exact same thing to me sometimes. Makes me want to jump out of my skin or cry - either one will do! It only happens very rarely so far, but it's really tough when that feeling hits. Hope you have a better day tomorrow!

EastCoastGirl - just saw your post about Vitamin D. What's the difference between D2 and D3? I can't believe my onc was satisfied with my level of 27 - no way is that okay for me, so I'm going to up it myself. Just don't know if I'm taking the right thing. Right now I'm taking D3.

Thanks for the reminder of the 6-8 weeks post rad fatigue heartnsoul76. I said it to the folks at school yesterday but don't think I really believed it in my heart you know..? but I do feel tired..best way I can explain it is it feels like someone has a strw stuck in my chest and is sucking my breath out ...like I do not hav eenough breath or energy...
so I guess that means at 11pm I should be in bed!
Off I go....and will increase my Vit D dose tomorrow!

heartandsoul...
D3 is the one you want to take.
Well for healthy individuals, levels should be around 30-50. But for people with cancer (and other health issues) levels should be in the 80ish range. That is what I have read and it was confirmed by my Onc when she said she wanted me up around 70-80.
I read an article (sorry I don't have a link or remember now where I read it) that women with low levels of Vit D at DX have not as good prognosis with BC...so, I knew I wanted to get my levels up as quickly as possible to help my body any way I can.
I did a quick search and found this.....

Thanks, ECG, for that information about the preferred levels and clearing it up for me about the D3. I'm doubling up for a while - I see my onc in early March for more blood work. Talking about taking blood, I can't even count how many times they took mine! I began to wonder if they were selling it or something!
And thanks for the link, too. I had no idea Vit D was THAT important for us BC patients! I would be lost without all the information I get from you ladies and these boards. I can't imagine not having all this input when it comes time to make decisions or even just to see my onc. I bet they get a LOT more questions than they used to!

I live in Florida and get TONS of sun and I am still deficient in Vitamin D. I think that some people, like me, have problems absorbing it. I wonder if this puts us at greater risk for breast cancer.

Tinkertude, shaking you up a margarita. Salt and lime. LOL
Sptmm62, there's a cold beer waiting for you.
I am currently taking 5,000mg of vit D, plus all the other vitamins. I'm a walking pharmacy. My potassium level has also been down. The onc said to eat 2 bananas a day. Needless to say, I HATE BANANAS NOW!
Heartnsoul, I hear you on the selling blood. They took at least 6 viles of blood at every appointment. I'm wondering if they charge you per vile????
Surfette can you send some sun my way
Night ladies zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Jules- nice to see you too. I hope you can start getting sleep. Forget the Prozac, the lack of sleep alone would make me want to kill someone. It's funny how the SE's are so different from person to person.
Tinkertude- I did have chemo, but my last one was October 28th, so surely it wouldn't still be making me tired. I am going to the OB/GYN this friday, so hopefully she can help me out with the vaginal pain.
I will not ever quit taking the Tamox. (well for 5 years anyway) but I just started taking it in November and I feel like an old woman. My husbadn laughs at me bc I am only 35 and when I get up I walk like a crippled old lady. It takes me a little bit to get warmed up and start moving good.
Thanks everyone for your help. Allison

I live in Arizona and have for the last 10 years. Our last AF assignment was Tampa, so I got plenty of sun there too. I have always had 2000 IU of Vit D, daily, in my supplements and my circulating Vit D was 27. My Naturopathic Onc told me it needs to get up to the 50-75 range to make her happy. I saw my PCP last week and he had me take a bone density test. He said the Vit D may be getting taken up with the cancer and that it can leave you with possible osteoporosis issues. First I've heard that. I do know Vit D helps your body kill cancer cells. I'm taking 5000 IU of D3/day. Just had the blood test after 3 months on that high dose, but haven't gotten the results back yet. I started a yoga class on Mon. at our local CC and I think I'm going to love it. Hope everyone has a good day today !!0

Jules you crack me up....yes it is cold here in New England, however the weather men/ladies can never forecast a storm correct!!! They have now downgraded it again to 3-6 after they said over 18 inches.....
I think I am going to call my Primary care Doc as it is easier to get an appointment with her than my oncologist. I am going to request that she take some blood as I am so extremely tired it is beyond words.......
Tinkertude as for the attitudes and being so up and down I bet it is related to your upcoming period as that is sometimes how I feel and mine have been starting to get irregular (not huge, but enough). I mean who am I kidding I used to get emotional and could get very upset, I think the Tamox just intensified that for me......only a few days out of the month.....here is to hoping today is a better day for you.......
Swansea girl I want one of those skinny drinks too.......

June, shaking you up a skinny girl margarita. Cocktail hour starts 3 hours before mine. However, it has to be cocktail hour somewhere, so I'll join you
Have you had your thyroid levels checked. If not, ask. I had thyroid cancer four years ago. I get my levels checked every 6 months. The bc group I am in, nearly 50% of the women had thyroid problems, before and after they were dx with bc. When I spoke with my onc and endocrinologist both said neither was related to one another. I have my doubts about that.

JUNE I think your right I am already past due for it so I think it is related to that too!

Swanseagirl Thank you for the drink.....mmm mmm good!
I used to be borderline for years when I was younger (much younger 25 yrs ago) I had what they called Chronic Barr Epstein Virus and I had that for at least 6months - 1 year ( i forget ) but I was literally a couch potato and talk about sleep, I slept most the day and put on a ton of weight.......I want to say I think she checked that last year, but I will ask. Funny how we feel things are related and it is such a taboo subject with all these Doctors.......I get up like I said earlier at least 4 times a week and it takes me forever to kick my butt in gear and I have that sluggish feeling all day.......
Tinkertude I am so glad you are feeling so much better. I hate those darn mood swings as it isn't really like me but when I get bitchy and I have no reason to be I know it has to be PMS or this stinking little white pill......I wish the men could go through something similar to PMS as it is not fair that we go through everything!!!!! Kids home from School, they must have been pumped....but your kids are older so you don't have to be home with them huh, so it must have been a party for them....lol We are looking at another possible snow day tomorrow and as much as I love my kids home with me, I would rather them not have to make up all the snow days during the summer and so far we have had 3......
Well ladies I am off to cook dinner and will check in later......

Tinker: Glad you mentioned the memory problems, so I know its not just me.. Chemobrain, Tamoxifen brain...whatever it is I HATE BEING STUPID!!!
My kids are waiting for the call too...but I don't think they are going to get it. Predicting 8 to 14 inches overnight tonight, but they have already had two snow days, so they will try really hard to get them into school tomorrow!
Swansea: That cold brew really hit the spot...thanks! Maybe tomorrow night we could all meet in the nice, sunny, warm BAHAMA CAR.
Good night all.

Debbi, I like the Bahama car. It's sunny and vibrant. Glad you enjoyed the cold one.
Amy, glad to hear you do not have any se's. LUCKY GIRL!!!!
Wish I could call my flashes "warm". Tropical bloomin heat wave.......
June, anytime.
Living in WA, if we get an inch of snow the whole state comes to a stand still. School cancelled, people stocking up on food. It's hilarious. Lived in MA and UT and never heard of a snow day until WA. LOL
On a side note, I walked 5 miles today. Yipee! Celebrated with a glass of wine

Jan- I almost forgot to mention the memory problems I have been having too..... My husband goes from laughing at me to worrying about me. Did you have chemo? I guess I just thought maybe I still had chemo brain. Is memory loss a SE of Tamox too? This stuff is brutal.
0 -
Jules ~ I laughed when I read your comment about the "WA snow days" as I live just north of you (in Gig Harbor) and my husband grew up in Alaska and laughs everytime they cancel school for a dusting of snow. I sure wish it would snow now though! It would make my moss covered lawn and driveway look so much better! lol!
Well... I turned in my Tammy prescription... over a week ago! lol! ... I still need to go pick it up!
