June hope you get to feeling better and can enjoy your dinner party. Maybe one of those famous NAPS would help.
Susan reminded me of this poem:
Dust If You Must
"A house becomes a home when you can write "I love you" on the furniture."
I can't tell you how many countless hours that I have spent CLEANING!
I used to spend at least 8 hours every weekend making sure things were just perfect -"in case someone came over". Then I realized one day that no one came over; they were all out living life and having fun!
Now, when people visit, I find no need to explain the "condition" of my home. They are more interested in hearing about the things I've been doing while I was away living life and having fun. If you haven't figured this out yet, please heed this advice.
Life is short. Enjoy it! Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better to paint a picture or write a letter, bake a cake or plant a seed, ponder the difference between want and need?
Dust if you must, but there's not much time, with rivers to swim and mountains to climb, music to hear and books to read, friends to cherish and a life to lead.
Dust if you must, but the world's out there with the sun in your eyes, and the wind in your hair. A flutter of snow, a shower of rain, this day will not come around again.
Dust if you must, but bear in mind, old age will come and it's not kind. And when you go - and go you must, you, yourself will make more dust!
Share this with all the wonderful women in your life! I JUST DID.
It's not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Sherry ~ I've thought of that too... but then I'd have to clean up the house so the housekeeper could clean.. you know what I mean!? lol!
There are SO many things on my "to do" list ..but I am learning to not beat myself up over it, and just do what I can.

Love the dust if you must poem. Don't know if I can let go quite yet though...type A personality I guess.

OMG SusanGarden I know what you mean about cleaning house before you can let them really clean.....I feel so happy I am not alone.....ha ha
Wouldn't it be nice if diagnosed with BC like us gals you automatically get signed up for FREE cleaning company.....I know in my dreams, but boy that would be nice. Not only do we have to hold it together for ourselves, friends, children, work and such, but we have to maintain a home..... cook, laundry, grocery shop, homework and the list goes on.......our job as a mother/woman never ends!!!
Exodus I would love nothing better than to nap, but that wont happen in this lifetime......I have never been able to nap during the day!

June ~ You know they actually have a FREE housecleaning service for BC patients?! It's called "Cleaning for a Reason" , I think. Several people have emailed me info on it. (Not quite sure how I should take that, lol!) If I would have had to do chemo, I might have looked into it.. not sure if they only offer it to those going through chemo? I would just feel guilty since I "only" had surgery and hormone therapy.
I want to hear the "Dust Poem"!!!

Yes someone also told me about that service or something similar in the area......however, they only do it for Chemo patients...... and yes I agree I would feel guilty as well as I am like you and only had surgeries and radiation along with hormone therapy........however it would be nice to have, I can dream......
Thanks Tink I am sure it will get better, just one of those days!

I consider myself very fortunate that I live in an area where labor is cheap. I have a housekeeper that comes in once a week for 4 hours and charges me $30.00. She does all the basic stuff, dusting, vaccuming, bathrooms, kitchen. It was a tremendous help since I went back to work one week after surgery and worked everyday through rads.
I think everyone should be able to get free housekeeping services.

$30 for 4 hours!! Wow! It is double that where I live!
0 -
Such a sweet deal - I have to take advantage of it. That way I can have a full day off and don't have to worry about it.

I sure don't blame you Jo!! Enjoy!! I hired a cleaning lady once before my surgery and once after. Both times my mom came too and we helped get even more done. Too bad the "clean" doesn't last forever!

I need to break down and get my old girl back. She was $40 for 4 hours. Cheap Texas labor. I had her before and at the beginning of BC but when I had to do some much driving for treatments my gasoline bill skyrocketed. I do not have an econo car. Now that that is over I may just have to get her back.

Thats a fantastic price. They do the free cleanings here from Merry Maids only if you are having chemo. Family members chipped in and before my first surgery they had Merry maids come and clean it was soooooo nice but they are too expensive $200 cant do that! but enjoyed it while it lasted!!!
Susan..yes wouldnt it be great if the clean did last forever, heck I would take just a" little bit longer" lol!

Sunangel27 Thank you for the info. Hope all goes well with you also. Took a day off work next week, spending a few hours in Manahattan with my daughter before heading off for my biopsy.
Have a great evening to all!

Crap! I pay $100 for 3 hours!
I did have chemo, so I had "Cleaning for a Reason" come. They were awesome! 4 months free cleaning, and they were so much more thorough than my regular maid. I would get rid of my regular maid for them, but they are even more expensive! Plus, my regular maid - a guy - helps with other stuff like spraying for bugs, and moving heavy things for me. I think I'm going to have to splurge and see about maybe alternating them. I think women just clean better.
Exodus - thanks for that poem, and the reminder of what's really important.
June & Susan - YES! I have to clean for the maid every single time! People tease me about that - ruthlessly! But, I'm amazed at how much mess we can make in 2 short weeks. And the mail! OMG, if that would just ever stop coming in, I might be able to keep up with other stuff! I had to stop the paper because it was just adding to the confusion!
My friend that runs the cleaning service that did "Cleaning for a Reason" is sending over a friend of hers who also caters to cancer patients. She's coming by tomorrow to give me a manicure and a pedicure in my home! I'm so looking forward to that! But, oh my gosh, I've got to CLEAN before she gets here! Which is okay, since the maid is coming the next day, and I would have to clean tomorrow anyway. It sounds so wacky to clean before the maid comes....where does it all come from? It's the mail!!!
Susan - LOL! I would make a good drug addict, too! Nothing I take seems to faze me - my mother is the exact opposite. That's why I'm glad to know the onc can tell if the tamoxifen is working by checking my blood work - I sure don't WANT any SEs!
Janet - I TOTALLY agree with everything you wrote about the differences between tamoxifen and the AIs. I told my doctor in no uncertain terms that I would not be doing an AI. They just haven't been around long enough, and the SEs are cruel. Stripping women of all their estrogen is cruel! I can just picture the male scientists coming up with this brilliant idea in the 80's and 90's! I mean, I'm sure it has it's place, but for me, this isn't it. I doubt they will ever decide men need to deprive their bodies of all of their testosterone! I just refused to do it, and my heart and bones thank me. My onc immediately gave in, absolutely no argument from her.
Singleton - welcome! This is a fun and fast thread, if you blink it will pass you by!
msphil - thank you for posting your story and congratulations on 17 years cancer-free! So glad to know tamoxifen was part of that. Will keep on keeping on with it!

Singleton welcome I remember u from the rads thread
Mspfil thanks so much for the encuraging words
That mail is awful. I cannot even find my desk. Last week my husband took a look at it and wanted to make sure I've been paying the bills. Lol. I did get alot of our bookkeeping caught up last weekend(DH is self employed) so this weekend I might try to tackle the desk0 -
Sherryc-glad to hear you slept some....I know what you mean. I was awake at 3am and lay there until 5 then crashed hard until 7 and woke up exhausted....maybe tonight will be different:)
June-my cycles went like that too a couple of years before menopause hit...and I had migraines whenever the weather changed (barometric pressure). Getting some salt into me as soon as the migraine halo started or the headache began in some form really helped. A friend keeps little lipton cup-a-soups in her drawer at work so when she starts to get a headache she has that instead of tea or water...the sodium raises your blood pressure which for me, stopped the headache...

Okay ladies I managed to make it out tonight and had a wonderful evening. I popped many pills prior to me leaving and it seemed to work......
Jo holy cow $30.00 for 4 hours of cleaning.......you lucky lady, but then again you deserve it....but damn Heartnsoul $100.00 for 3 hours YIKES!!!!!
Sandeeonherown - thanks for the info, not to sure I am going to like it being like this for gosh knows how many years.....I never was one to have any real problems with my period other than cramping, so this is really putting a damper on my lifestyle as I seem more crabby and have more headache and nauseous......yuck.
Eastcoastgrl - yeah I guess us women like to chat......
Welcome Singleton fast but fun moving train.......time for a night time cocktail or do I have to wait until Friday night?
Jo wheres the food, I miss those lovely treats.....

Ladies,
If you forget to take your tamoxifen, do you take two pills the next day or just forget it? Last night I forgot to take mine for the first time since I started January 1. Sure don't want that to happen again and give those little cancer buggers a leg up.

surfette - If you miss a dose and it is close to your next one, just skip it. Don't worry, you are still protected. Once you completely stop tamoxifen, it takes several weeks to get out of your system.

Ok this train is the EXPRESS for sure. MOVING so fast ~ I am going to have to start taking notes because I am usually 3 or 4 pages to catch up. AND it is killing me I can't remember everyone's names. But there are a lot of you on this train, I am in very good company.
Austinnana, no experience here but hoping all is fine. Try not to worry.... I know so much easier said than done.
Cleaning girls are a must for me. AND oh lord I call it the 'pre-clean' organize the piles, put the kids stuff away. Strip beds etc. Oh my. I got my girls when I was on chemo, they come every other week (2 of them) and I pay 140. BUT they are wonderful!
Oh the sleep question I never was a great sleeper, but was certainly not like this either. Being woken up when I finally do fall asleep with a hot flash doesn't help. I am going to get the glycine and give that a try. I do have Nature's Calm which is a hermal mix of melatonin and stuff. Helps a little but not much for me.
I can't remember back anymore ! Have a great day girls.
Alicia
