Heck, fat is one of my basic food groups...and sugar...and breakfast cereal!  Guess I should really be indulging in the Slim Fast and not the Bertolli or Breyers!!  (But the latter is so much better/more fun!!)

You all are making me want to stop at CVS to see if I can find some "deals" on Easter candy!!  LOL

Dad is home...visited him last night and he was good...  Let's hope this keeps up.  My brother stayed over-night with him...  I am so exhausted I can't wait to lounge in my bed for a little while tomorrow!

Ok, I'm off to the TGIF car....bar...chocolate...sleep....so many choices!!

Big hugs girls....thanks for all the support!!

Layne -- That's the problem with those darned eggs -- once you start, it's impossible to stop! While we're confessing.... I also got a bag of the Hershey milk chocolate eggs. Maybe I should through them in the freezer, and thaw them out one at a time. Naaaaah.

    dcbkc,

    Ok...I'll flip pancakes!  Laughing

I finally called my onc today, just because even though the back pain got better, well, now it is back again after a few days...WTH?!
My onc said that he wants to order an MRI of my brain and an MRI of the lumbar spine.  I am also experiencing some numbness in my left LE hand.  I am so scared!

    Thanks!

    Harley,

Hang in there!  Sounds like your onc is just being cautious.  At least he listens and is proactive -- that's a good thing. Keep us posted. (HEE-HEE - posted - get it, online...post...)

    Blinx,

Putting those chocolate eggs in the freezer IS  a good idea.  I love to make brownies and put them in the freezer -- they're even better that way!!!

    Virginia,

Glad to hear Dad is home.  He'll be better just for being there.

So I've been off the tamox since Tuesday morning and my hot flushes are even worse.  Anybody have any ideas? I go back to the med onc in 3 weeks.

Anyway -- everyone have a great weekend!!

Maybe your hot flashes have to get worse before they get better??  Just a thought... When I stopped the Effexor, I was ok for awhile, and then BANG!  it hit me!  Emotional meltdown!!

Thanks for the wonderful advice.  I know that there could be any number of reasons why I am having these se's, even could be Tamoxifen-related...  I guess I'll wait til I see my surgeon, so I can get the whole run down of tests ordered....

WELL GIRLS ~ I JUST GOT MY TAMOXI TRAIN TICKET IN THE MAIL YESTERDAY. THE BOTTLE IS SITTING ON THE BREAKFAST TABLE, STARING AT ME.

I CAN'T DECIDE WHEN TO START IT. SHOULD I WAIT TILL THE FIRST DAY OF MY PERIOD, LIKE A BIRTH CONTROL PILL? SHOULD I JUST START IT RIGHT NOW? I HAVE TO WORK ON SAT'S AND SUN'S, GO TO CLINICALS ON MON'S AND TUE'S, HAVE LECTURE ON WED'S AND THUR'S. FRI'S ARE MY ONLY DAY OFF. IF THE TAMOXI IS GONNA MAKE ME NAUSEATED OR NERVOUS OR ANYTHING, I'D RATHER IT BE WHEN I'M AT HOME AND DON'T HAVE TO GET UP EARLY THE NEXT MORNING.

WHAT KIND OF ADVICE CAN YOU GIRLS GIVE ME?

    GardenGirl--

It sounds like you are a nursing student--I'm a nursing instructor in an ADN program.  I've got 2 recommendations for you:  first, if your onc wrote the prescription for once a day try taking it at bedtime. second, talk to your instructor or academic advisor about your situation.  (Your health info will be kept confidential--faculty are held to the same confidentiality standards regarding students as nurses are regarding patients.) There are any number of ways to help you keep up while adjusting to the tamoxifen.  The important thing is to talk someone on faculty now, before a problem comes up.

Should we add a study car to the tamoxi-train?  :)

    Dear Tamoxidarlings,

I'm back from Fla; wonderful respite.Tanned my radiation armpit without trying!!

Layne, It is awesomely wonderful to have you back, girl. I hope all goes well with the body. God, it never ends! Really missed you.

Thanks, y'all for all the nice feedback on my painting. I will get my son to help me post the rest.

    Laurie,

I've done most of my work with Joe Rosen at Brattleboro Hospital. Now, I also see some folks in Keene. I will show my BC story at the hospital next winter.

Harley, Virginia,Japan Lynn, will catch up later.

I think a study car would work if it's combined with a foot rub car>

To all the gals worrying about se's, my only bothersome one after 4 months is sore feet.

    Love to all, Basha

Hi everyone! I am back from my trip to Tennessee. I went to see my mom and sister and her kids for Easter. It was great. My son went with me , and we had a wonderful time.

Basha , I love your art work. I can see such emotion in your work. Very intense and beautiful. Thank you for sharing it.

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter. I am still unpacking and washing clothes etc...

Welcome to all the newbies! I think I will head for the bar car , could use a "relaxer"!xx Mel

Welcome back, Basha and Mel!  Glad y'all both had fun on your trips.  You were missed!

Layne, long time, no hear from...glad you're back, too.  I'm a Cadbury Mini Egg/Robin's Egg Easter candy girl.  Thank heavens...no more "theme" candy for awhile.  It's relentless from September until now...ack.

I'm all for a study car on our train...sometimes it's just the ticket to have some quiet time.

Donna, just jump right in and take your tamox...maybe at night would be the best.  See what happens and adjust from there.  I've had pretty minimal SEs, all told.

Harley, sending hugs to you...so sorry you're having problems.  Please keep us posted on your MRI results.  Sending good karma for an easily fixed outcome.

Virginia, poor baby...you've really been through some hard times.  I hope you're having a relatively stress-free weekend.  It's so tough being part of the "sandwich generation".  Hugs coming your way.

No big news from Japan.  I've had a pretty lazy weekend...Sunday was rainy all day, so I organized paperwork and read.  My IRS nightmare should be over soon...I think my financial advisor has a good idea of the problem and how to respond, so I should come out without a totally empty bank account.  It's been stressful, though...I've spent the week in the chocolate and bar cars.  Ack.

This Saturday I leave for Cambodia for five days.  I can't wait!  I've been reading a memoir about the killing fields/Kymer Rouge regime; really depressing.  I really need to go to the gym a few times so I'm ready for crawling through dusty, rocky temples.

Sending good thoughts to everyone on the train...we've got quite the extensive passenger list.  Enjoy your Sunday, ladies!

    Thanks, Lynn

I am starting to think that just maybe these pains are from the Tamoxifen.  I see my surgeon on Friday, so I'll mention it to him then and see what he thinks.  I was just SO SCARED!!!

    Thanks again!

Hi Girls--- thanks for all the kind words...  Never made it to the sleeping car...or the chocolate car...OR the bar car!  I did make it to the Jelly Belly Jelly Bean car though.  Just scarfed 2 handfuls of those puppies.  I have to say with going to see my Dad so much and being so sick, I've lost more than 10 pounds!  Not the ideal way to do it!

Was at my dad's from 8am til 7:00 pm last night and 1:00 pm 'til 7pm tonight.  All in all, a very lazy weekend.  Did a little food shopping for him and made him an Angel Food Cake...made his meals and washed his dishes.  And, got LOTS of reading done...  So, I am trying to keep positive and enjoy all of the remaining moments I do have with my Dad...  Again, thanks for all your support...

To the gals who are knew to Tamox, I think I am one of those who has very few SE's.  In the very beginning, I used to get very mild hot flashes, but they went away after a few months.  Now, if I get joint pain, I don't blame it on the Tamox...I just blame it on sheer exhaustion...  My onc seems to think that I am adjusting just fine and she says I'm very "lucky" to have so few SE's...and that doesn't seem to bother her...so I just go with the flow.  I take my Tamox in the AM...just manage to remember it at that time...

Good luck gals!  Hugs and warm wishes to all of you...our train has gotten so long that I can't mention everyone's name...  That's such a great thing that there are so many fantastic STRONG women on this train!!

Ok, Monday already tomorrow...  I finally am getting brave enough to pop my taxes in the mail.  I always have HUGE anxiety attacks...well, just the past 2 years as i have prepared them myself (Dad did them before...)  Hopefully turbotax won't fail me!!  :)

    Virginia,

    Hello, there!

Glad you had a good weekend!  Glad your Dad is doing good.

You know, I also had minimal se's from the Tamoxifen, at first.  Just some warm flashes, in the evening and at night.  I started taking it in Nov.  Fast forward to the end of February, and I stopped taking EFFEXOR, and BAM!  Now I get not only the HOT FLASHES from HELL at night, when I should be sleeping, but also...OH, the pain!  Joint pain, and other pains I have never had before.  So I called my dr. and he said he'd order MRIs of my back, but I really think this is all the Tamoxifen.

I didn't think about it, but it has been raining here yesterday & today, too...so maybe the damp weather has the joints and even bones aching!!

    Have a great week!

Harley- are your MRI's scheduled yet?

Txgrl- LOVE your goal/Easter egg hunt plan!  That's soooooo funny!!

I stepped on the scale this AM and am down about 15 pounds!  BUT, my clothes feel exactly the same...  It's so weird.  Was just in a tasting of 5 culinary chef prepared prototypes...all decadent and bad for me and I ate like a little piglet...  :O

Oh well, it's a rainy Monday here in NJ....

    Virginia,

I told my onc's office I would hold off on the MRIs until I see my surgeon on Friday.  Since the pain has gotten better, I don't think I need them.

But, I  may ask my dr. for some kind of anti anxiety medication to help when I freak myself out...

    It's raining here, too... Frown

Funny, but my clothes are all fitting so tight, but my weight is staying the same...  The tasting sounds delicious!

Hi tamox friends.  Sorry...I have been absent for awhile.  When I am on...I post on at least one thread..and I am tired usually.

I tried to catch up, but there was soooo much! One thing I did notice was Basha's artwork!! Omg...amazing..it was absolutely beautiful!! I dabble with art, and I love viewing...and I really loved your piece!! Put more on if you can!

Virginia...your hair is really growing fast!! Yeah...

Welcome to all the new tamox train riders....enjoy your ride...this is a great group!

I have to say...my s/e from tamox are pretty much next to nothing!  I really have no complaints...and I have been on for almost 6 months.  I started on effexor to help with some depression I was having after my surgery in February.  That has nixed the few hot flashes I was having.  I haven't had one since I started that a few weeks ago.  So...happy to say, that I can't complain!

I hope everyone is doing well.

    Harley..what is the MRI for??

    Take care!!

    xoxo

    Hi Native Mariner ~

I think a study car would be great! We'd better keep it FAR away from the car where the girls are getting their beverages! All that partying might not be conducive to studying!

Yes, I am a nursing student. I'm at Kansas City Kansas Community College for their ADN program. I graduate in 51 days! Whoo-hoo!

I got my diagnosis at the end of my third semester (pediatrics). My clinical instructor was very kind and understanding. He gave me lots of lee-way. My grades fell, of course! But I made it through.

I'm now in my final med/surg rotation. One of my lecture instructors is a survivor too! She had to have chemo though. We finished our RADs just a couple of weeks away from each other. Her hair is growing in very nicely now.

Thank you for all your advice! My instructors have all been very kind and accomidating. I feel very blessed by all of my friends, family, and teachers that have been patient and helpful to me.

BTW I took my first Tamoxi tablet last night before bed. I was really sleepy at clinicals today, but that's nothing new. Since I work two 12 hour shifts over the weekend, I'm usually pretty tired on Mondays anyhoo.

Welcome!  Get a seat in one of our various cars... either the spa car, the chocolate car, the bar car (my personal favorite), or the food car...

It can be a bumpy ride, so fasten your seat belt!!

    Donna,

I am in KC too.  I started tamox in Dec but my med onc took me off of it last week to verify that various things were s/e from the tamox or something else.  We'll decide in 3 weeks if I'll continue or not. I'm in Overland Park specifically.

    Andrea,

I have been having different things going on -- but none that are really terrible.  But as I said, onc wants to verify. If I continue to take the tamox, I'd rather deal with a few aches/pains than have to go through all this again.  To beat the beast would be worth it.

    Virginia,

I did mean to tell you that your hair looks great.  I love your new picture.  Glad Dad had a quiet weekend.

    Laurie,

Good for you!! The first one is the toughest.

Hello to Lynn, Harley and the rest of the group.  I can't help but stay in touch since I may be back on the train shortly.

In a moment of weakness I grabbed all the 1/2 price malted milk eggs my hot little hands could hold. Luckily, in a moment of sanity, I ended up giving most of them away.

Virginia, I just noticed how long your bangs are getting too! I lurrrve those Bertolli meals. If my job involved eating I would need a new clothing size with each passing year. lol  Since you're losing and your clothes feel the same, I wonder if tamox makes us retain water? I can't say because it feels the same as bloating from candy eggs. he he

Hi Donna! Nice to see a wonderful rad pal...guess we'll e taking a little train trip together now too!

For the benefit of newcomers like me, I'm going to post a repeat of what I said about my se's in the other conversation thread....

I'm a week into tamoxifen. Hot flashes and dizziness. I'm not complaining, am almost glad I have some slight se's. They don't seem bad because they're always during the night. I wake up feeling like I'm burning up from the inside, but I seem to fall right back asleep. The dizzy spell or two last about as long as it takes me to turn over in bed ..not really either problem during the day so we'll see how it goes.

I would love to stay in the bar car all week, but after last weekend...a couple of pomegranate martinis with the girls and some wine at a birthday party the next day, I'm trying to behave for awhile. After being super vigilant, my eating and drinking has definitely taken a celebratory turn for the worse since I finished rads. It's so hard to walk that line between enjoying myself and being healthy...some days I just lose my balance. lol

Harley, you've had more than enough on your plate this winter, you are way up on my prayer list. Keep us posted. Like you, I'm very much guessing tamoxi-pain.

    Hugs everyone!

Well .... I made it through my first day without any troubles.  My face did feel "flushed" a few times during the day.

Just out of curiousity, how long does it take for side effects to make their way to the front of the passenger car?

    Dear Laurie,

I've read about 3 months. I've been on 4 months and my only annoying se is foot pain. I'm kinda a latter day jock and it holds me back in normal movement, let alone sports. I go to see my onc next week to ask about treatment.

Dear Other Lori, I have dizzy spells too, for a few secs at a time. How weird. Glad I'm not going more nuts.

Hey Laurie ~ Looks like you and I got on the train at the same time. Let's compare notes! I take my Tamoxi tablet at night before I go to bed. I figured if it was gonna make me feel goofy, I'd rather it be while I was sleeping! Last night was my second dose. I haven't noticed any S/E yet. Maybe I'll be one of the lucky ones and have an easy go of it.

Thanks girls for all the kind words RE my hair!  It's CRAZY....so soft and VERY curly.  Grew in black with grey parts...now it's starting to revert to brown (my natural color).  Some days I look like Bozo, but compared to being bald, I take Bozo any day!!  I post a new pic every month...take a picture on my Chemoversary which is June 21, so I am documenting the hair growth...  It's very cool to look back on each month and see the progression!!

You all crack me up with the Easter candy...  I've not made it to the sales, and now I fear that they will all be over...  Boo hoo...

I think I have the water retention...  As I've said many times before, I have awful swelling in my hands so that many of my favorite rings no longer fit!  :(  So, I guess that's the biggest SE I will complain of from the tamox...

    Big hugs to all!!  :)

Lori and Donna - I'm over here too.  I'll keep your engagement secret as well.

I've been on Tamox for just over three weeks.  I've only had flushes, but I have a terrible time sleeping, night sweats AND I feel nausea and flu-like/body aches every day.  Abdominal cramping too.  Oh, and the dizziness.  That is subsiding some though.

Basically, I feel like I've got the flu coming on every day.  Some days are a bit worse than others.  Only a few have been mild.

Donna - I started to take mine at night too to lessen the side effects (or so my thought was).  I've adjusted the dose to dinner time hoping that I could fall asleep (and stay asleep) at night.  I'm so fatigued, yet I cannot sleep.
