    Donna & M,

I'm so glad to hear about someone else getting the chills.  I figured it was just our lousy weather (Donna, you know how tough this winter has been around here!!). But I started to get some hot flushes just before the doc took me off the tamox.  I'm only getting one or two a day now and usually in the evening.

And, Donna, I got my period twice during the 4 months I was on it -- one and two months in -- but haven't gotten it since.

PS -- Once the weather improves, I'm game for Legends.

    Virginia,

Hang in there!  July will get here sooner than you realize.

    Basha,

Again, your talent amazes me.  WOW!!

Hi to everyone else! Have a great weekend.

    Deb

Hi everyone!  Well, I finally got my first period after the chemo and into the tamoxifen.  It's been pretty severe.  I never had a period this bad in my pre-b/c days.

I'm going on a trip to Florida/Disney for my 40th birthday this week.  I'm pretty nervous about flying with everything I've read about lymphedema, but I bought the arm sleeve and gauntlet, so I'll give it a try.

I bought a baseball cap with a ponytail attached to it to wear for the trip.  I figured it would be too hot in Florida for my wig or other hair pieces.  But the ponytail is very light blonde, and my hair was coming in very dark blonde, so the parts that showed under the cap (my sideburn areas and the nape of my neck) didn't match the ponytail.  So I decided to color my hair.  BAD IDEA!  It never occurred to me that I would have any problems with it, since I've never had problems before.  Well, now I have bright orange hair.  I colored it a second time with a lighter shade and this only made it even more intensely orange.  *Sigh*

Still no side effects from the tamoxifen.  I'm glad, but it does make me nervous that maybe it's not working.  I called my doctor to ask about it, but he just said I haven't been on it long enough to worry.  I'll ask him about that metabolism test when I see him at my follow up.

    Have a good weekend everyone!

    Hi everyone,

    Virginia,

Sorry you had to have your infusion alone!

Thanks for asking about my dr.appt.  He scheduled me for an MRI on Thurs., but he wants me to get that colonoscopy, so I'll be doing that on Wed.

I may not be on the boards for awhile... just sitting and ...  er..

    s*itting !!  Laughing

    Take care!

Hope everyone has a very happy weekend!

Well, Cowgirl, at least your orange hair will fit in with the Florida oranges. Maybe you can just pass it off as an "I meant to go funky to go with my short 'do" moment. Sealed Have a great 40th b-day trip! My 40th is in June, so I'm right behind you.

Harley, what fun. Happy cleansing!  Undecided

    Nash,

Thanks!  It's funny, but my SIL and I are BOTH having colonoscopies this week!  Hers is Tuesday, and mine is Wednesday!!  WHOHOO!  FUN, FUN!!

Hope you are feeling good, and healing after the loss of your Mom.

    Hugs,

    Hi Girls!

Hey Deb ~ When I get a little break from school I'll contact you via the private message tool on this site and we'll make plans for The Legends. Would you mind if I invited my girlfriend that usually meets me out there for lunch also? She's a hoot ...

Hey Cowgirl ~ Sorry about the orange hair. When my cousin was in beauty school, she convinced me to get a perm and color all in the same sitting. OMG! I looked like Bozo the clown! One big, orange puff ball of frizz! It was horrible! Money mouth

Hey Harley ~ Just get comfortable in there. My mother-in-law has to go once a year. She sets a T.V. tray next to the toilet, with the cordless phone, a couple of magazines, a tube of Desinex ... she just sets up camp in the bathroom! LOL

    Nash and Donna,

Thanks-- a friend of mine saw my hair yesterday and didn't think it looked bad.  She actually liked it and thinks it looks more "strawberry blonde" than orange.  I still think I'm going to wear a hat, though!  :)

Basha...your work touches my heart as well.

Nothing new to report for se's. Just still the overnight hot flushes and

a bit of dizziness, but fine during they day. I suppose I should take my bp next time I go to the drug store....make sure it's not high.

I get my first colonoscopy in June, sounds like a riot. Undecided

Cowgirl, when my hair started to come in I coloured it fushia!!  Thought I'd make a statement.

All this colonoscopy talk has me thinking I better get my butt in for one too! (Pun intended)

    Have a good night ladies.

mamhop--my oncologist said while on tamox, 25% will continue with normal periods, 50% with irregular periods, and 25% will stop altogether.  Mine became very irregular and light--I took minipads with me everywhere just in case!  I just recommend that anyone on tamox have a yearly transvaginal ultrasound to monitor both the uterine lining and the ovaries.

Kiki-- You're very brave to have gone fuschia!  I'm pretty timid, so I'm still afraid to go out with my head uncovered.  I think I'll let it grow a little longer, then go to my regular stylist and get it cut and get the color fixed.

Anne-- is a transvaginal ultrasound as uncomfortable as it sounds?  It sounds rather frightening.

Basha, spring has begun in Texas.  Got my first sunburn of the season (unintentionally) yesterday. Didn't realize how strong the sun was and went for my walk without protection.

    Donna & Lori,

Yes, I am sure that it will be a wild time!!  Donna, your MIL has to get a colonoscopy EVERY YEAR?  Why?  I thought these polyps didn't grow much, so the earliest they recommend going for a re-test was THREE years!!

    Kiki,

Yes, having had bc puts us at increased risk for colon cancer, so you better get your butt in soon, to get checked!!  Laughing

    Donna,

I look forward to meeting you at Legends -- if it's a weekend, I may have my husband with me so we'll make it a party!

All of you make me laugh!  All this colonoscopy talk and very little of it serious -- what a great group!!  I had one YEARS ago and will probably have to have another now (it's been at least 8 years).  No doubt the prep is worse than the test.  Like that rabbit -- you just keep going and going.....

    Viv,

There is one other alternative to tamox, I think.  But all that I've read says that tamox is very effective.  But go online -- there's a couple of really good sites that have clear info. Someone mentioned one earlier on this thread but, fuzzy brain that I have, I can't remember what it is.  Can anyone recall?

Busy week ahead.  Have a great one.

I hate to be a busybody, but those of you who are having colonoscopies-- do you mind me asking how old you are/were when you had/are having your first one?  When is it recommended to have one?  I still have to have surgery to get rid of my tissue expanders (which is on hold until my liver cholestasis improves) so I don't think a colonoscopy is in my near future.  But I was wondering when I should start thinking about having one.

Sorry for being so nosey!  :)

    Thanks!

    cowgirl,

I am 44, but will be 45 in TWO weeks!

Having had bc puts us at increased risk for colon cancer!  So, after your surgery is over, and all your txs are completed, it is a good idea to go get checked...

Cowgirl ~ NOSEY? Are you kidding? We are sitting here on this train talking about our breasts, vaginas, and poopers! If a girl can't be a little inquisitive on this train ... where in the world could she? LOL!

Harley ~ I'm not sure why she has to get it done every year. She's elderly, diabetic, history of polyps, etc., etc. I guess the docs consider her to be high risk.

I had the chills again last night. I take my Tamox before bed, and as I was almost falling to sleep I suddenly was just chilled to the bone. Was actually shivering! Isn't that the weirdest darned thing? I've been experiencing slight dizziness during the day too, but nothing really significant.

I've got so many irons in the fire right now! But I'd better get on the ball and set up an appt with a GYN doc. I wish I could just float away to some warm balmy beach. I would have the cabana boy rub oil all over my .... Oooops .... sorry girls ....

    Donna,

That tropical island sounds really good, about now!!  I would LOVE to just disappear, and skip this whole procedure!

Sorry your friend has so many problems!  Kind of funny, but someone else just posted on another thread that someone else they know also has to get colonoscopies every year!  EEWW!

LOL Donna! Yeah..I don't think there's much that's taboo to us here. I think for graduation you should have a cabana boy! Even if you just sunbathe by a kiddie-pool in your yard. lol When's your actual last day of school again?

Cowgirl, I'm getting one because of family history, but as others said, I think all bc patients are recommended for colonoscopy. Undecided

    I agree with Harley...ewwwww.

Girls- thanks for always lightening my day.  Even though all of this stuff is so "serious," it's so awesome to come here and see how everyone makes the best of things and puts a humorous spin on their own personal situation...

Lemme just tell you that I am heading towards the fat farm...yesterday was 18 culinary prototypes....yes, 18 - 1-8.  I rolled out of the office yesterday.  And the ice cream people haven't even come here yet!  I am doomed!!

    Happy Tuesday all!!

    Layne,

It's great to see you post! I think of you often since I'm from Alexandria and my parents and brothers are still there.  How are you doing?

    Lori,

BTW -- enjoy the playoffs!  The Wild made it in, right?  My parents are happy -- they're original Caps season ticket holders.  My mom was in the hospital over the weekend with a very low platelet count -- not sure why -- so them making the playoffs made her day.  My brother got to go to the game with Dad.

    Cowgirl,

If ever you need a straight answer -- this is the group to come to. And really, the prep for a colonoscopy is far worse than the test.

Have a great day everybody -- it's rainy and nasty here.  Stay warm Donna.

Donna, Hi! I jumped on board this train a little while ago, and have just been reading some of the posts. Are you goin to be a LPN or a RN? I am thinking of going to nursing school myself.......right now I am in the middle of taking a CNA class. I had applied to a nursing school last year, right before I was dx; I got put on their waiting list. Anyway, I'm seriously thinking of trying again.

Thank you Deb...I'm super excited! I will SO enjoy the play-offs and am extremely jealous of anyone with season tickets. Wink  I've gotten to attend one game, and what a blast! Hope your mother is doing better this week?

Donna, I can understand why you're excited and freaked out. That is an OMG! Something to be very proud of and a huge responsibility. I just know you'll be great and amazingly empathetic. Maybe by May 21st it will be warm enough for the cabana boy...just hang onto him.
