Layne,
You sound good -- and I don't mean some oink-type sound! With all that you've been through, chocolate should be considered medicine! My husband is out by Dulles this week. We'll be flying into BWI next month for the weekend. NoVa was a great place to grow up! I miss all of the azaleas this time of year. And the cherry blossoms.
Lori.
I'll be thinking of you when I look at the scores. Mom is doing much better. Her count is going up. They will be coming here in a week. My daughter (8th grade) has asked her to speak to her Social Studies class about the attack on Pearl Harbor (she and her sister watched the planes fly over Diamond Head -- grandpa was a mechanic for subs) so nothing was going to get in her way!
Donna,
After you get pinned, we'll plan on the Legends. You should be very proud of yourself!! And, yeah, what about those Jayhawks !
Basha,
You are amazing. With your art and you coach crew?!?!?! WOW!
Take care all and have a great day.
Deb

Dear Tamoxifriends,
I go for my 3 month onco visit this am and then in 2 weeks, yet another base line mammo. Can't seem to find the baseline for me. Course I'm nervous, but life is going well so I can immerse in life.
My son finished rehab this week and starts the old job hunt again. He seems pretty solid.
The row docks will go in over the next 3 weeks. AHHHHH! My exercise version of dark chocolate.
How's everyone doing?
Basha0 -
Basha,
How did your onc appt go? What did your onc say about the bone pain? Please let me know, because I am wondering if the pain I am experiencing could be from the Tamoxifen. It is intermittent...
Hope your mammo goes well, in 2 weeks.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Harley0 -
I'm having pain too! It's not bad, and it's intermittent as well. It's mainly like shoulder and hip joints. What worries me is that sometimes one side hurts more than the other. I have no clue if that's normal.
Hope everyone is well.

Hi Lolli and Harley,
My onc thinks it plantar fascitis, which is similar to a heel spur. Really hurts, soooo I go to another doc, podiatrist to check it out. I don't think the Tamox is related. Unless the lack of estrogen is just not lubricating my body as well...
XXX Basha0 -
Hey Basha, I've been suffering with plantar fasciitis and a heel spur since about Nov. ouch! I just started the tamox. in Feb. so it's probably not related. My knees and shoulders are another story though. The knees really started aching about two weeks after starting the tamox. I just wish I could get used to my new "normal" life!

Deb, glad to hear your mom's improving quickly and that you'll get to have a nice visit soon.
Kiki, are the aches constant or do they come and go. Do you notice any kind of pattern at all? I take my pill at bedtime and pretty much just have the pain at night. Maybe it's just because I move around a lot during the day.
0 -
Basha, keep us posted on that. Sheesh it's always something isn't it?
Hope your soon has some good luck on his job search.

Basha,
Thanks for the update. It sounds like your pains are not Tamoxifen related. My dh has similar pains, but his dr. thinks it is just tendonitis, since it is just his heel.
My pains only started AFTER I stopped taking the Effexor. I had been taking Tamoxifen for 3 months. But, since I only got this after stopping Effexor, I think it could be the Tamoxifen. Maybe my onc was right, and the Effexor WAS interfering with the Tamoxifen.
The pain is my left butt cheek, and the left leg...but, I also have started having hip and knee joint pain, but only on the LEFT side... I was really scared at first, but since it is intermittent, and it goes away, I am thinking it isn't anything to be worried about. I had an MRI of the lower back yesteday, and will see my surgeon on Friday. But, as my dh says: "I wasn't sick til I went to the drs.!!"Good Luck to your son!

Hi, ladies--
Wow...lots going on since I left last weekend! It's too much to respond to individually--constant brain farts, as many of you have experienced since this journey began. Welcome to the new passengers!
I got back from Cambodia about noon Friday...those overnight flights are killers. It isn't that far a distance from here, relatively speaking, but there isn't a direct way with good connections. Anyway, Cambodia is beautiful and the temples (the ones I saw--there are dozens and dozens) are gorgeous and unique. Ankgor Wat is just awesome...saw it at both sunset and sunrise. The hotel was great, the town of Siem Reap interesting, and the people are lovely. Only one complaint--it was bone-suckingly hot; high 90s every day with pretty high humidity. I was taking three showers a day, but still sweated (or as my friend said, "condensed") constantly. Even having spent most of my formative years and beyond in FL, I just can't handle heat like I used to.
The heartbreaking part of the trip--the people are just so poor. There is a big children's hospital not far from the hotel, and a sign out front was begging for blood...they're having an outbreak of hemorragic dengue fever, and losing lots of children. Sanitation is such a huge problem...you should see the color of the river where people were bathing, washing dishes and clothes, etc. There's an organization here that's digging wells with donations at only $100 each, so we're hoping to get some of the teachers on board to donate. Beautiful country but just having a hard time getting back on their feet after Pol Pot killed everyone with an education (along with millions of others) back in the 70s. So sad...
I took my tamox like a good girl while I was gone. My hip started hurting toward the end of the week...lots of uneven stone steps at the temples probably. Time to get back to some exercise and healthier eating...the beer just tasted so good in the heat! I'm happy to report that Cambodia brews a dang fine beer (and in huge bottles)--Angkor. Even won an Australian beer award, according to the bottle...and the Aussies know their beer. :-)
Basha, love the artwork! Sending good wishes to your son. Harley, hope you're feeling better...keep us posted on MRI results. Virginia, how's your dad? Step away from the ice cream! What is your job? Sounds great, whatever it is, w/ the food. Lori, Kiki, and Harley--my right side has always been my "bad" side for pain; since tamox, sometimes my left hurts, too, but never as much.
Sorry for the long-winded travelogue...hope I didn't put everyone to sleep--unless you need sleep. :-) It's good to be back! Take care...

Lori, the pain is not constant. Haven't noticed a pattern but I will pay more attention now.
Lynn, glad you had a good trip. It all sounds so exciting. I am going back to my teaching job next month. Not nearly as interesting as where you are though. Grade 1 in a pretty rough neighbourhood. Poverty, and abuse are the main issues. I love it though, very rewarding.
Harley hope your scans come back with good news.
Sorry if I missed anyone, my poor brain just ain't what she used to be!! My biggest fear going back to work is being in the middle of a lesson and having one of my "ummm what was the word I was going to say next???" moments!

Lynn,
Sounds like you had a wonderful trip!!
Kiki & Miss Lolli,
I am thinking since the pains are intermittent, then it is nothing to worry about, and probably se's from the Tamoxifen. I also have more pain at night... probably since I am not moving around as much. As long as I keep active, walking and moving around, I feel fine, and the pain is minimal... in fact, today, it seemed to be just the hip and I know that is joint pain from Tamoxifen.
Thanks for the positive vibes... I am sure all is well... the more I think about it, the more I think it is TAMOXIFEN!Have a great weekend, everyone!

Hi ladies , hope you are all off to a good start of the weekend.
Basha , so glad you're son is doing better , and I hope he can get a job right off the bat. He just needs some good things to happen in his life right now. I pray that happens for him.xx
Wow , it seems we are all having aches and pains. I don't know if it is the tamoxifen or not , but by the time Friday gets here , my feet are killing me. It was all I could do today when I got home from work , was to put my feet up and take a nap. Oh I wish I had a little cabana boy to give me a foot massage!lol Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Basha -- I feel for you. I had my foot xrayed last summer because of a bunion, and they discovered a heel spur as well. My podiatrist recommended a LOT of arch support (I'm bare/sock-footed at home all the time), and he even wanted me to wear sneakers at work (I don't think so!). So I compromise and wear ugly but supportive shoes. But they won't look right in summer...
Funny story -- it was the bunion that started me on this BC journey. I'd always been too chicken to get a mammo, but since the techs at the place were I had my foot xrays done were so nice, I finally scheduled a mammo as well. Now, almost a year later, I'd still like to get a bunionectomy, but don't think I can fit it in this year. Oh well. SOME day (and then I can go shoe shopping. Wa-hoo!)0 -
Thanks Blinx and Kiki. I'll go to a pod in May . Meantime, I'm using heel supports and not running as often.
Hey, spring is creeping into southern VT. We had weather in the 60's and I raked leaves in a tank top.I'm feeling more tired than usual but I'm sure it's trying to keep up with the dang teens I coach.
Hope Sun is as lovely as today.

Hi Bonnie! And may I offer a dubious welcome to the Tamoxi train! I will be graduating with an Associates in Nursing (RN). I've been a CNA for about 18 years! Good luck! And go for the nursing degree! It was a VERY difficult undertaking, but the time just flew by and now look at me! Ready to graduate, got a job all lined up already, and looking forward to some money, money, money!
Thank you Miss Lolli! I agree ... I think I will have a greater sense of compassion for my patients because I have first-hand knowledge of what it feels like to be on the other side of the healthcare coin.
Deb in KC ~ It's a date! Sometime after my Pinning, we'll make arrangements to meet. I'm looking forward to it!
Hey Basha ~ I'm happy for your son. I'm sure it's been a difficult chore for him. I things go well for him and you!
Aches & pains? Well, I've been managing Fibromyalgia for the past 5 years, so I ache all the time anyway. I haven't noticed any aches or pains that are any worse than normal for me. My breast will go for two or three days and not bother me at all, but then it'll swell slightly, ache all day, and I'll get those lightning bolt pains shooting through. That'll last for a couple of days, then back to normal again. I wonder how long this will go on? I hope it goes away eventually!
I've been on the Tamox for a couple of weeks now. No big side effects really ... night sweats - which I was having prior to starting the Tamox anyway. I should have started my period about 9 days ago and it doesn't feel like it's going to show up. That is just fine with me! I was actually premenopausal before I started the Tamox. Maybe it has just given me the little push I needed.
Love all!

Lynn- welcome home!! Dad is hanging in there. I think he's got spring fever. He's exhausting my sister having her shclepp him around during the day. He's also been on a cookie baking binge...has baked 3 batches of cookies in the past week. So, not only do I eat all day at work, but I eat junk at Dad's. This past Thursday we had a lunch in Little Italy in NYC to taste a bunch of culinary dishes. I work for a major food company in their Consumer Science department. That means that I test products that are made by product developers with consumers (you guys) to see what you think of the products - likes/dislikes, what can we do to improve the products... It's very cool....we have a huge/broad range of products so all I do is eat all day...
I have such a congested head...I think I am WAY suffering from allergies. It's been awful...even Allegra D isn't helping. I'll be happy once everything is finally "bloomed!"
Kiki- I LOVE your pic!!
To all the rest...Lori, Deb, Donna, Basha, Blinx, Harley, Honeygirl, Layne, and all the others that my chemo brain is missing...big hugs...
I'm off to the "cookie car" as I'll be heading back over to check on Dad! It's a dreary/rainy day here in NJ....
Happy Sunday all!!

Virginia -- have you tried the neti pot? I saw it on Oprah (so it must be good :-). You rinse out your sinuses with salt water -- literally rinsing away the pollen. I'm trying it this year -- a few times a day, after I cut the grass, or have been outside for a while. So far, so good.

Greetings to all...I'm new to this conversation...it is very interesting! I'm writing to find out if anyone else has been doing what I've been doing...cutting my tamoxifen pills in half so I'm taking 10mg instead of 20. I have noticable side effects when I'm on the 20mgs, none when on the 10mg. I see my onco next week and will discuss it with her but wanted to know if anyone else has been on a lower dose.
0 -
Blinx- my Dad was mentioning that to me over the weekend. Today I am actually feeling a *little* better. I am hoping that I'm over the hump with the allergies... We shall see! Thanks for the advice though, I will definitely consider...
Sigh...it's Monday....another 20 gajillion samples to eat today...
gilpatsgirl- I take my tamox (20 mg) in the am and have experienced very little SE's. I know some other gals were taking 10 mg 2x a day. You might want to ask your onc about this if it's working for you...saves you from having to cut the pills in half which I know from cutting my dad's pills in half can be dodgy sometimes (crumbling pills).

gpg,
I know some people divide the dose morning and night. I found the side effects lessened after 3 months, especially stomach ones. See what your onco says.
Basha0 -
Well girls, I think I spoke too soon! Last night I went through 3 pairs of pajamas cuz of night sweats! Today, at clinicals I was either burning up and stripping off as many clothes as I legally could, or freezing and sneaking blankets out of the warmer. Geesh! What a mess! Still no period though. That's a good thing as far as I'm concerned. Maybe I'm having the hot flashes (a.k.a. power surges) cuz this normally would be my time for menstruation? Actually, past time. Anyhooo ..... it's all very interesting ....

Thanks, ladies. I will talk to the onco about it. I appreciate your input.

Hi Gals,
SPRING IS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!I've been raking for hours and loving every minute. Think of me next Mon for my mammogram.
XXXBasha0 -
Good luck with your mammo, Basha!
Tomorrow, I will be trying for a breast MRI... but I tried on Monday, and they cancelled it...something about an emergency, and the emergency was cancelled, and then another one came up...
Anyway, I will try again for the breast MRI!!
Good Luck!Harley

Donna, sorry you have sweats now in the mix with the chills. I can't comment on the menstruation/power surges, as I haven't had
a sign of mine since before chemo in Oct. I feel like a real freak, because for some odd reason I'm sad about it. No clue why, as mine has always been horrible and so hard on me. Maybe just the end of a "phase of life" kind of thing?
Good luck tomorrow Harley, I'll be thinking of you.
Basha, you'll be in my prayers on Monday.
I know when I start getting my follow-up tests I'll need some sedation. lol

Hi, ladies--
Our thread has been quiet for a day or so!
Not much news from Japan...just work, work, and more work. School has been very busy; besides regular teaching duties, responding to parents, school carnival on Saturday, etc., etc. Always something, it seems...
I had a good workout today...did the weight machines and stayed on the elliptical machine for 40 minutes (thank you, Oprah and Dr. Phil). Of course, then I came home and shared a bottle of wine with my neighbor. Two steps forward, a mile back. Sigh...
How's everybody doing? Lori, I haven't had a period since last Sept. I'm ready to be done, but it's still weird...I keep waiting for it to come, but now I'm seven months out. Don't know if I'll feel strange when I've passed that (supposedly) magical one-year mark. Basha, thinking of you re: your mammo; praying that all goes well. Harley, I've been following "Nipplegate" on the bitchy thread...you're keeping me in stitches! Sorry for your app't. woes; I hope all works out. Virginia, hope your allergies are doing better...if it's not one thing, it's another. Also hope your dad is okay. Donna, did I read on another thread that you're about to get your nursing degree (or am I mistaken? Totally possible...)? If it's you, congrats...such an achievement!
I know I'm missing tons of people here...sorry. My memory is so limited, and I can only scroll up without losing my whole post. Wishing everybody a happy day on the train!

Hey there ya'll,
I have been having ONE dr. appt., or medical test after the other, and it all started LAST WEEK!! I thought I was getting off the hook today, but NO! My ps wants to see me again...
The MRI went well... except for one small glitch... they had trouble getting a vein!! OUCH! WHY DO they KEEP PUSHING the D*MN NEEDLE IN, when they can SEE THAT IT'S NOT GOING IN?!!!Ok... better now... They FINALLY got another nurse to come in and she got it the 1st time!! She told me that she had bc several years ago.
They also gave me a WAL-MART gift card, to help cover the cost of gas, since I went there on MONDAY for NOTHING, cause they cancelled at the last minute!
I'll be seeing my general surgeon tomorrow, to go over all these test results!
I am SO SICK OF TESTS, I COULD SCREAM! Oh, I just DID!Miss Lolli, Lynn, & txgirl, Thanks for the warm positive MRI vibes!
Lynn, glad I can help bring a smile to your face! When I need a laugh, I think about my pre-op discussion with my surgeon... When I see my ps today, I'm going to ask if there is ANY way we can get this thing done SOONER!!
txgirl, Oh MY! I didn't think they could turn us down for a NECESSARY TEST! I mean, we are "high risk" gals now... I HATE TRICARE!!
Virginia,
Hope you are feeling better today, with your allergies... YIKE! I HATE ALLERGIES! My goodness, I must think I'm on the bitchy thread! Hope your Dad is doing good, too! I've been thinking about you...
Basha, hope your mammo went well!Hope everyone has a WONDERFUL DAY!!!
