Hi Warriors
Re: Pocket parties, Tamoxifen, fertility and joint pain
Wow, -- let the games begin with the eye candy. Paula, you really know how to pick them.
Having a very stressful day so I thought of stealing a chance to connect with my Tammi sisters and put in my two cents on the SE of tamoxifen, etc. Been on Tammi for 8 months. My Onc told me that tamoxifen makes you more fertile. I was talking to her because I have had regular cycles the last 5 months, but then nothing in May and nothing in June. I am done having children so I was a bit concerned. I do not know what is going on. She said it could be premenopausal. I am mid/late forties so I imagine she's right. Anyone else had this experience?
I am also having joint pain and my Onco said it is probably arthritis and not related to tamoxifen -- go figure. The pain is not unbearable (I have a high tolerance for pain) but it is there most of the time.
Also, this low WBC and ANC is making me freak out. In February both numbers were low normal and now a steady decline.. Anyone know if Thyroid issues can affect your WBC. The literature seems to suggest it. I was recently dx with Hashimotos Thyroiditis so I am trying to research if there is a connection.
Welcome to all the newbies. This group have a wealth of information and they also know how to party.

That was on heck of a pocket party and the eye candy did the trick. Thanks everyone for being with me. I know it was super early.
Everything went smoothly this morning. Got there bright and early and was in the OR by 7:15. At least the doctor kept his word and put me first on the schedule. Started waking up by 9:00 and was discharged by 10:30 and home by 11:00 Doctor found a sizeable uterine polyp and removed it and also scraped by uterus again. He said the polyp is not due to Tamoxifen in any way. I will get the results of the path report on Jul 10th. It hurts a bit to sit down but that will get better in a day or two.
DH took me to lunch and got by script for antibiotics. Since I did not sleep much last night, I took a good nap. I am still sleepy but want to stay up so I can go back to sleep tonight.
After this follow up, I should be appt free until my recon revision in Aug.
Hugs

Just stopping by to say hello to all the Tammi girls and let you know I am thinking of you. Have my MO appt in 10 or 11 days, am sure we will discuss the tamoxifen issue again. Have been feeling SO MUCH BETTER off of it.... only complaints are continued neuropathy & fatigue.... so we will see.... Hugs to all of you. Jo, so glad you are doing well after all the drama. Paula, Sherry, DT, openheart, schipmom, and everyone else - have a good weekend and keep cool!

Thanks everyone for your comments and advice. I do realize that tamoxifen is not the only answer and I am trying to take care of myself -diet &exercise is very important. I may look into melatonin. This week has been a bad one for sleep for me. Maybe b/c my joints have been particularly painful this week & I'm not getting a lot of relief from the Celebrex. I'm sure that's why I looked you guys up this week. Had't been on the site in a while - but this week has been rough and I think I needed a little support. Thanks for listening .

Jo... so glad all went well!!! and we were pretty behaved for ya!!!.... well.......kinda
Ann.. My cycles have been all over the place since I started TAm. I skip months then I have gotten it twice in a month its nuts. I also have pretty signifigant ovary pain when I think it is ovulation time. Never had that before. In Nov after a year on Tam I already had thickening that was on the upper limits of normal on Tamoxifen.... I am 43 I think its all the Tamoxifens fault!!!

Jo: glad everything went well!
Rose....not everyone has the side effects and the vary....so don't worry about getting every side effect mentioned. You might start it and know that you can stop it if you have problems. I was VERY hesitant to take it with all the potential side effects, but decided to try it. Yes, I have hot flashes and night sweats....but I had them before TAMOX .....they might be a little worse, but I'm finding other possible things that effect it too (white wine seems to make it worse, while red wine doesn't.).
Thanks Angie for the info on BioSil
I hope everyone has a great weekend.
Hugs!0 -
Tink - You don't know how to behave - LOL! What a party you ladies had. That was okay with me - it kept my mind focused somewhere other than what was going on.
Slept 11 hours and feel pretty good this morning. Still a bit sore and have to be careful how I sit down but that is not going to slow me down. Can't wait to get path report on the 10th.

Speaking of side effects, here they come...
Red, itching vulva,...my body wants estrogen, but Tam is blocking it.
I was having fun just having to exercise my troubles away, now it's back to reality and dealing with the hormonal side effects.

Jo, glad your surgery went well.
RoseP - was on generic version of celebrex for arthritis in my shoulder (surgery side) to help get my range of motion back before radiation. After a couple of months of taking it and tamox together started getting a lot of liver pain, which scared me to death. Both are metabolized through liver and I guess my body couldn't handle it. After being off celebrex for a couple of weeks, I got better. Just saying to be aware of your body if you take it or any other drug with tamox. Now doing better, worked for several months with PT to strengthen muscles around joint and this has lessened my pain with movement. Take Advil sometimes as it is metabolized more by kidneys.
My MO doesn't dismiss my complaints as not being related to tamox. It is his nurse who does if it is not on her LIST of SEs.
Nibbana - found wearing pantyliner all the time and changing it often seemed to help.

Jo I'm glad to see you made it thru good. Got you in my prayers for positive results!
Well I made it thru the survivors lap alot better this year. My mom was there doing the caregivers lap with me too, just like she was thru most of my doctors visits and my chemo treatments. She says that she didn't deserve to walk that lap because she feels that all she did was sit there while I did chemo. I told her that was the best thing that she did for me. She gave up her time to sit beside me. That I'm truely blessed by.
Have a great day all! Try and stay cool during this heatwave thats going thru!
Light and love to you all my sistas, love ya!

Paula - Your mom more than deserved to walk that lap. She unselfishly gave her time to be with you through a very difficult time. She may not see it that way but I for one can say I have been on both sides of this cancer crap. I was there for my DH through 2 bouts of cancer so I do know how important it is just to be part of the treatment process.

Jo: Glad your surgery went well. They found a polyp when they did my D&C too. It's weird that your doctor said the polyp was not caused by Tamoxifen, because mine said miine was more than likely caused by that little white pill. Go figure!! Anyway, glad you got through things OK and will be praying for good results when you get the path report.
I go for my biopsy Tuesday and with the holiday and all, who knows how long it will take to get mine. More waiting on pins and needles. Grrrrrrrrrr!!!

Deb - I have printed out several articles that say Tamoxifen can cause polyps. I will be taking them to my next appt. I think that with the holiday in the middle of the week - that is why I have to wait so long for the results. It doesn't help that I had the procedure done on a Friday. At least my GYN did admit that Tamox will cause the uterine lining to thicken.
Will be in your pocket on Tues - I'm sure there will be a pocket party going on so please wear something with plenty of them so we will all fit.

Finally got some sleep last night - yeah! Maybe it was the complete exhaustion from the week. Don't know about you guys, but it is crazy hot here - 105 today. I'm doing my best to stay indoors, but will have to go out later to get some food for tonite. I hope I don't melt .
Good luck to you Deb. Seems like I read something about ablation mentioned. My gyn would not do one when I was having bleeding issues 2 yrs ago. She said that it may mask uterine cancer symptoms and she didn't want to risk that.
Have a great Sunday!0 -
Well, five hours and a run to urgent care later, I'm am sitting here sucking down some Diflucan.
Thanks Tami, I sure hope this isn't indicative of our relationship for the next five years. I thought you were cool at first, but now I'm starting to not like you.
Ok, I need a smoothie and a workout!

nibanna - What a bummer. I know how you feel and it sucks. I started taking acidophilius which can be purchased in the vitamin section at Walmart have been on it for many years. Have only dealt with one infection and that was when I ran out and forgot to put it on my shopping list. It is a hell of a way to remember but I make sure I have plenty on hand. It is a probiotic that helps keep those nasty infections away.

Hi lovely Tammi ladies. Well, today would have been one year on the big T if I would have not gone on my little Tammy vacation for 6 weeks. I started back this week. I hope that the relief I was beginning to feel will last for a while....or maybe forever!!
I take a probiotic everyday. I think it is helpful on many levels.
I hope you all had a good weekend.
Night...

Deb: ....in your pocket for your mammo tomorrow
Nibanna: sorry you've had so much struggle!
Hope you all had some joy this weekend...I went to see Brave (animated) today with my DH, DM, and our best friends....cute.....and I hadn't seen a Disney film for so long....it was a special treat.0 -
Well all here is some man candy for you Deb to focus on!

Deb hope all goes well tomorrow.
Nibanna last year was my first spring and summer on tammi and I had several vaginal yeast infections. I usually get them once every few years. I think I had three last year before it finally cleared up. So far this year I have been good. I also take acidophillus and have for years. My MO upped me to 8 billion cultures when I started seeing him. I think I was only taking 1 billion before that.

Paula!!! Thank you for making me smile!!! And thanks to everyone for being in my pocket tomorrow. I will make sure the pockets are plenty big for everyone to come along! I'm very nervous as I know the biopsy can be painful. As much of an ordeal that the D&C was with having to go to the hospital, etc., I think I'd rather have that done because at least I was ASLEEP for it!!!

Hi I am new to this busy thread. I am starting Tamox. Is it best to take at night or in the morning? What about side effects like hot flashes or nausea? I appreciate any comments. Just got off chemo so just want to know what effects anyone has or any recommendations. Thanks
