Hey Indomitable1 - congrats on completing the 5K.  Great accomplishment.  An elliptical - I call it the torture machine but have been trying to work up my endurance on it at the gym.  So far 10 mins is my max but if I had one at home I would probably use it more often and build up.  Good luck with it - I'm actually jealous.

    Hi all!

Patoo- Don't be jealous!  You're part of my inspiration from the Fitness/Exercise thread. Although I don't post, I look in whenever I'm logged on and get so INSPIRED by the posts including yours with the daily accomplishments. I know that I'm not getting to the gym except for PT (and that usually means a kid is picked up late or has to skip some activity).  In PT I'm working on my endurance 'cause I was WIPED by the combo of chemo/rads despite trying to walk or do tapes throughout (stopped totally halfway into rads).  I only completed 10 mins on the elliptical the day after the 5k!  I was totally shocked. Finally worked up to a full 30 mins yesterday. (My Kids were looking like "do we know CPR??') Took today off. Back on it tomorrow. God Bless and thanks.

A woman's gotta do what a woman's gotta do. When all my rads buddies were discussing _"are you going on tamoxifen vs. arimidex", etc. I said, "I'm going on a diet and exercise." (I was the only TN). One is actually going to have gastric banding next week to get to desired  BMI ASAP and she was ER+!

Hey everyone! Hope you all are well! Wouldn't it be lovely if all this inactivity on the board means that incidence of BC in AAs is going down. Again, I hope that all our fellow survivors are just too busy LIVING and thriving to check in often.

    God Bless!

Hi Indomnitable1.  Had Sisters Network support group meeting tonight and we are getting larger.  I think our AA sisters  just don't go online as much.  Many of them don't know about this website although I've mentioned it a few times.  But you are right, they are busy living and, this Sisters at least, is faith based as well so many of the sisters get their strength from the Lord.

Thanks for telling me my exercise motivates you.  I was ging to miss another day but now I'm going down and do at least 30 mins on the treadmill.

    Blessings to all.

Patoo- point taken. We don't have a Sisters Network group here. Been thinking about starting one..looked at the website and got info and all...but ......... You're right though-I know my strength cometh from the Lord.

BossyRenee-You go girl! Counting down with you!!! Yea!!!!  Hopefully you'll have the lovely experience that Patoo did with rads with no skin breakdown. Get her to give you her secrets.

iLinda-get that computer fixed. Mixed hearing from you.

Journey-Hope the neuropathy is settling down and that your feet are better.

    God Bless All!

Indomitable1, PM me if you want contact info on the sister who is President of the central NJ chapter.  A wonderful, humble woman of God.  Sisters Network is amazing.  Last month we had a newly dx sister who had very minimal insurance which covered her surgery but not her chemo!!!!  Dorothy was able to get her assistance, an upgrade to her insurance and this chapter is picking up the huge difference in ins premiums, $400./month, to  get her through chemo.   I think the annual convention in Houston is coming up in April; they actually only have to get there and there are schlarships that picks up the cost of the hotel.  I think it runs a Thursday to Sunday, early April.  Would be a great trip if you can go where you can really get information and support to start a chapter.

    Blessings.

    Hi all...

Lately, my right hip has been hurting/sore and walking difficult. When resting it gets better. I was walking better then all of a sudden, my hip area is sore. My right leg looks larger than my left. My cancer was in my left breast and the mamm was clear. I did go to my chiropractor and he did an adjustment of my pelvic and hip area. He stated it was off.

I'm concerned...this is not normal for me.

Hi JourneyNC - yes, He has risen.  I am renewed because of His sacrifice.

If you are still having that pain after a few days please check with your PCP.  And remember, what we thought was "normal" is no longer.  BC changes all that.

    Blessings.

    Hi Patoo,

My sister was laid to rest on Friday, April 23rd after a long illness with Multiple Sclerosis.

Since my attention was elsewhere I had to cancel my bone scan.

Most importantly, I had not felt that hip pain until I returned to work and sat in my work chair. I have a feeling it's the chair causing this hip pain.

I'm also going to see my Gynecologist, since feeling around that groin area is a little sore, I can start there and work my way back to the bone scan which takes long.

Journey, so very sorry about your sister. That must have been tough on you and the family.

Can you switch chairs at work and see if there's a difference?  Hopefully you will get some answers and then ba able to move on.

Trust all else is going okay.

    Thanks Patoo,

It's something about losing a sister that is hard, but given the situation, I'm happy for her to be with the Lord in Peace.

I did switch chairs and hope that my chiropractor can offer something for me to sit in with these chairs. Otherwise, all else is good And will be good!

It is so extra comforting when we know someone is with the Lord.

I have 2 sisters and can't imagine losing them.

Looking forward to hearing how you make out with the chair and will keep you in prayer.

    Hello sisters,

Although I am not triple negative, I thought it would be nice to say hello and connect.  I am starting my second phase of chemo, Taxol x 12 in the morning.  You all are so correct that as AA women, we sometimes do not have access to information, but do have such a collective consciousness and unconsciousness that has proven invaluable.  I am also going to take myself to the exercise motivation thread.  I know it is time for me to start taking better care of myself.  I was reflecting on one of the statements that our previous perception of normal is no more and to add to that, as AA women, our threshold for physical, spiritual, and psychological pain may be higher than some of our other sisters of different ethnicities due to our socialization.  Please keep me in your thoughts and know that I will be thinking of each of you during this time.

    Ase,

    Tiffany

Hello Sisters! Just stopping in to say that I hope everyone is doing well. Tomorrow will be tx 8 of 28 and I am doing pretty good. So far, no skin issues.

Question: What did/are you ladies using to aid in hair re-growth? My last chemo was 3/16 and although I do have SOME fuzz up there, the growth doesn't seem to be as fast as it was pre-chemo. Any suggestions???

Welcome Tiffany to the club no-one wants to join.  But we are here and the support we get from one another is invaluable.  You are absolutely correct that we have a new "normal" but, truth be told, the old way was really unhealthy.  I am constantly on the "Lets Post our daily exercise" thread because it really keeps me going so I will welcome you if you care to come over.  It is a process though.  I'm still trying to get myself to "join" the ELAB thread so I can get my eating under control as well.  Oh well, a day at a time.  BTW, I also am not TN but somehow just joined this thread and stayed here!  These ladies are great.

Hi Bossy, I didn't have to do chemo so can't really answer your question about the hair.  I believe there may be another thread on the AA boards regarding hair so you can take a look.  I would venture a guess, though that you are only a month out of chemo so that may be the reason for the slow new-growth.  Your body is still recovering from the onslaught of those drugs.

    Blessings to all.

Hi Ladies! Hope everyone is well.

    Welcome Tiffany & Bossy!

Bossy-my hair is slower than the tortoise and is growing about the pace of a snail. Whatever! I

had taxotere and AC. I read that may be worse. In addition, my previously thin side is practically bald. But Hey! I am here! My friend told me about OVATION hair products and ordered me some. Will give it a try. Nothing (I mean nothing) to lose.

Patoo-I guess I need to get on the Exercise thread daily for inspiration. And I must make myself post (I was just looking) for accountability. You are so right about the old Norm being unhealthy. Praise God for discernment and the fact that we can Overcome through Him.

Linda-Where are you? How are you?

God Bless you All! BTW Has anybody heard about the Infinite Boundaries Retreats?

    Hi All,

Update: went to an Orthopedic doctor and the took Xrays. It came back slight arthuritis and bursitis, but he wanted an additional BONE SCAN.

I  pull out my hair afterwards and need BIOTIN for hair growth...STRESSING MYSELF OUT!

Got the results sent to my Medical Oncologist. May be good news since he did not contact me on them.

Anywho, I'm going to do more exercises to strengthen this area...

     Peace!

JourneyNC- I agree with Pattoo! They would have called you with anything worrisome. Congrats. Keep up the biotin (me too....also trying Ovation Hair Products. Will let you know if this expensive stuff does anything to cover my balding spot.)

Ladies- Please consider going to the Infinite Boundaries Retreat. It's sponsored by Breast Cancer Recovery Foundation in Madison, Wisconsin. It is an excellent opportunity to deal with the the 'aftermath' of BC-the now whats, the ifs/buts- and to truly pamper your body and spirit. With fantastic organic/sustainable DELICIOUS catered meals. Talk about AWESOME. They hold it in different resorts in Wisconsin. It was beautiful. Well, worth it.

    God Bless All!

Hi everyone.  Indomitable1 - will keep the retreat in mind.  If I can ever get some time from other trips I will check it out.

Praying everyone is okay.  Have my 6 month diag mammo next Tuesday.  I was okay until my med onc seemed to linger on one spot on my breast during checkup this past Tuesday.  Probably only my imagination; hope so anyway.

    Blessings.

    Hey Patoo,

Will be thinking of you at that next mamo. Almost time for my 6mo. one as well...Next month for me. Was puzzled on the order that came to me in the mail. It showed only for one side and not the other. Hummm. This happened to me 2yrs, ago and I refused to leave the appointment without them doing both sides. I get tired of some offices reading off these darn charts saying "it says here a person your age" needs this or that checked only every so often." Yea, right. Should have told her why not switch places with me. They do some of these tests so routine they forget about our TN history needing extra care in tests.

Here's to us all having lots of fun and warm weather for the weekend.Smile

God Bless! & Amen to a fun and warm weekend.
