Is anyone else an atheist with BC besides me?

I am speechless... this is not about god this is about crazy people who use this (church, religion, god, faith, etc) as a vehicle to spread their sick beliefs. Who the heck are they to pass such judgement..in about 2 seconds these folks have destroyed all the good that is done by other groups.
Let the family mourn in peace.

With BinVa and EWB here.
Honestly it was the hypocracy [sp] of Christianity that sent me questioning. Ah well, from what I have read in the various holy books, if there is a god then the "good" people of Westboro Baptists will join the 911 bombers in a special hell for people who missed the rule about do unto others. . . .

The 9/11 bombers and the family that makes up Westboro Baptist will remain part of the universe in various chemical and electrical components for as long as everything lasts. They will probably end up as dark matter.0

Another awful thing about that group is that they're all related by blood or marriage. Reminds me a bit of some of the polygamist sects I've seen in southern Utah.

Madalyn - that is the best answer I have ever seen.

Madalyn .. you made me laugh out loud! Nope ... I don't imagine the Devil wants him either ... might give him a bad name!
Hope everyone is having a good Monday! Very cold and windy here.

Or from some parts of West VA ;-) I can say that because I'm from VA and people teased me when I moved to the "big town" of Raleigh, "You probably didn't have shoes until you moved here, did you?" lol!
Madalyn - great answer!! I'm glad they weren't even mentioned in the news. Seriously, what is wrong with those folks?
I have had a very nice day. I finally had my last drain removed after my TE exchange surgery! It had been in since 11/24. I told my nurse to please forgive my language when she ripped that sucker out of me. I told her to blame it on my Dad who was in the Navy. It hurt like someone had poked me with a 10 inch stick that was blazing hot for at least 15 minutes.
Wait - did I just say it was a very nice day? LOL! Well, actually it was. It's out. I came home and had two hot toddies - a little coffee, a little non-alcoholic eggnog, a lotta brandy, Frangelica, & kahlua. :-) Just watched The Grinch for the first time this year ... it's officially the Christmas season now - Best Christmas show EVAR!

Good to get drains OUT isn't it Bec...yippee

Hey ladies, it's almost the solstice! I am SO looking forward to days getting longer again.
notself, I wonder if it would be feasible for a mobile mill to come to your place should the oak tree succumb. I just did a quick google on portable lumber mill and saw several places to start investigating.
re Elizabeth Edwards service, a pox on those Westboro morons. It's always truly mystified me that these extremists can be SO certain what happens after death or that they KNOW why the celestial power decides this that or the other thing. What a bogus bill of goods. How does anyone buy into that? ...I'm venting and of course that's a rhetorical question. No need for any of us to waste any brain cells trying to figure out why nutty people do nutty things. geez louise. I need to learn how to not let that kind of stuff bother me!

Althea,
I am hoping that my Oak will make it. I will start supplemental water in February so it gets a good start. Yes, we are still in a drought but I don't want to water with the night time temperatures below freezing. I am afraid of damaging the fine surface roots.
If the tree doesn't make it, I will check out a portable mill. It would be nice to keep the wood. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm not an atheist, but I have become somewhat of an agnostic since being diagnosed. I just don't understand how there could be a kind, all-powerful god out there who could let such bad things happen to all the wonderful women on this forum, as well as to all the innocent kids who get sick and die everyday, and all these other terrible things that happen to good people. I don't wish bad things for anyone, but if bad things are going to happen, they should happen to bad people and good things should happen to good people.

LG .. Welcome from another sort-of agnostic!

Welcome from me too LG. Geez, you have been through the surgery mill - 3 lumps and then bmx. Hope you are recovering physically and emotionally as time goes by.0

There is a full eclipse of the moon tonight. I enjoy studying and following Buddhism as a philosophy but the universe is all the religion I need. May you all have a joyful Winter Solstice.

notself - would we see the eclipse in the Southern hemisphere or is it just up your way?0

Thanks for your warm welcomes. Even though I'm finally starting to feel better physically, I'm been pretty down emotionally the last couple weeks. I think now that I'm not so focused on the pain and discomfort (and going from one surgery and doctor's appointment to the next), the whole emotional impact of this whole BC experience has hit me. Also, now that I'm finally feeling well enough, I've started to look for a job (I haven't worked in almost 10 months), so that's been extremely stressful. Hope everyone's keeping warm (it's freezing here in NY).

The religions of "the book" (North American and European religions) seem to view God as an external god - protecting us or metting out punishment where called for. (kind of like Santa Claus)
The Eastern type of religions seem to view god as being in all of us. There may or maynot be an external God (or collection of the god in all of us) (I am not an expert on this.) but it seems the greater importance is on the god within us.
When we see pain and suffering in the world, it is very hard to believe in the external God. If one believes in the internal god in all of us - expectations change. There is no one to blame. There is no one to ask for help. Except yourself and other people.
I feel more comfortable with the eastern approach. I stumbled upon it after my dx. It made things easier in my mind. I think religions are ruined by rules, money, people and politics. Otherwise, I have nothing against them.

A lot of Christians and Jews also believe that god is within all of us. I don't find that belief any more helpful or comforting than the belief in an external god when trying to come to terms with BC or all the other terrible things in the world (and until recently, I've always been a very positive person).

Right on Madalyn
LG - it is easy to be positive while in treatment as we feel that something is being done to rid us of this disease and we feel 'safe' and tend to push all the horrible 'why' and 'what if' thoughts to the back of our minds. Unfortunately they come back when tx is finished and and we find ourselves in the 'swamp'. I had bmx with recon and then straight on to Femara. 3-12 months following dx was terrible for me - very low and no inclination to do anything - felt like I was only just holding onto my mental stability by a thread at times. Emotional recovery is a long slow process but it does happen - take life one day at at time, try to only do what you have to, recognise and accept your feelings and try not to look at the big picture for a while - it is too hard at the moment. Hang in there and be gentle with yourself - you have done well so far - you can get through this. Visit this site - you will find friendship and support from people who understand and care ....

Raeinnz, the eclipse is fully visible in North and South America -- this website
http://www.spacedex.com/lunar-eclipse/
says "For observers in western Asia and Australia, you will be able to see parts of the eclipse when the Moon rises at sunset." Maybe that applies to New Zealand too?

Thanks Ann - looked at that site and have looked at our local news site and they tell me we can see it from 8.37pm until 11pm, the best sightings at 9.17pm, if our skies are clear. It is 7.45pm now so not long and our skies are clear for the first time in a week! Yay!0
-
Good grief can't believe our bad luck - the clouds rolled in about an hour before the moon was to rise and now that the eclipse has finished they have parted again. Hopefully next year - June or Dec the news people said.0
-
cloudy in Melbourne too Oh well at least the 10 year drought has broken.

Sunflowers .. Caerus .. glad to see you found your way back!
Welcome LG! Yep, there is such an emotional drop when treatment ends. I was so lost when radiation ended, as it was my daily routine for 8 weeks. But as time goes by, we seem to find our footing again. It takes as long as it takes .. no set timeframe for getting our emotional well being back. I was so exhausted for about another month, all I could do was work (from home) and sleep.
I caught a little of the moon last night. The skies were a bit hazy, but I did see half it and it made the light outside kind've orange.
Hope everyone has a great Tuesday,
hugs,
Bren

Oh bother, there were clouds in my area, too. We will have to wait over 400 years for an eclipse of the moon to fall on the winter solstice. By then I could be dead!

That's it - notself has defined the approach I plan to take for the rest of my life!! Also LOVE the Lao-Tsu quote. Love it. Happy Solstice everyone. Thanks for the gigantic chuckle...boy, I love those chuckles....
