Ladies you are an inspiration!  I just finished chemo on 9/4, and I am on "peach fuzz watch" at this point.  I am inspired that I could have good coverage by the New Year - something to look forward to.

Thank you for sharing your pics and experience!

Joseph... Thanks soooooo much for coloring my hair.  As I said previously, my own stylist tried but failed.  I am very frugal in almost every area except my hair, therefore, I have never skimped on my hair.  Joseph... you met AND exceeded my expectations!  I'm finally wigless today at work.  You are such a wonderful and caring person.  Thanks also for doing my friend's hair.  She is loving it as well!!!

lbrewer and Rachel_BC... Thanks for coming out and meeting me during my color.  You two ladies rock!  I had an absolutely wonderful time!!!

Awww!   thanks for the compliments on my hair!  Glad I have you guys.  Today my 6 yr old daughter was quite upset that I don't have long hair anymore....she wants to practice braiding LOL!

It's all the rage in 1st grade to braid each others' hair!  I'll have to get her a Barbie styling head to practice on LOL!

    Hi Ladies,

The nurse who called me OBSESSED last week, hugged me today when i went in for my herceptin. She must have felt bad for calling me that. i never took it wrong, but i was a little embarrased. so i am glad she saw that!

Okay, today marks week 7 for me and i am seeing a very faint dark shadow on the top of my head. I think it means that my normal hair (not that clear fuzzy hair) is starting to sprout! Am I right? Any of you ahead of me remember that? I still look bald even though i feel so much stubble on my head. Does it start to fill in soon? I am sick of looking at my white scalp! ha ha I feel like putting tanning cream on it! LOL

TRISH - The nurse should be ashamed of her behavior last week, she has no idea what it is like and hopefully never will. My hair came in almost all light, but gradually took on my own dark brown color.  After the hair that I had started changing the new hair that came in after was already dark.  If you look back a couple of pages on this thread you can see a current pic of me taken earlier this week.  I did have my hair colored early on as I didn't have much patience waiting for it all to turn.  Also, (don't know if this link will work) here is a link to me at a bc luncheon on August 16 which was 4 weeks PFC, I'm the bald one (obviously) with the blue vneck tshirt on.  I ditched my hat early on as I was sick to death of it.  I still to this day check the mirror constantly.  I'm not a patient sole.  It will come.

http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/69/topic/707348?page=112#idx_3337 (you might have to copy and paste it, I'm not so good on the computer sometimes)

    HUGS to you, Dawn

Ok...I'm trying not to panic here.  Has anyone on this thread taken Femora?  I start it tomorrow for 5 years and when my husband was reading me the SE's, it stated hair loss and weight gain.  I'm just getting my hair back!!!!  Has anyone lost hair on Femora?  Thanks....

Thank you Dawn! you are so sweet! I dont think i will look like you did in two more weeks (at 9 weeks) but i have hope to at least to color my stubble by then and actually SEE my hair! Oh and the link you sent me didnt take me to your 4 week pic Cry But i appreciate you trying to send me to it. It really helps that we are all here to share with each other. Without this site, i dont know what i would do!

Funny thing- I was wondernig when the hair under my arms was going to grow back (since i am already shaving stubble from my bikini area! leave it to that to grow back the fastest!!!!) and i noticed today that i have about 1/8th of an inch of baby fine chemo hair under my arms! i couldnt even see it before it was so light! so crazy! So i guess i can start shaving that now too, my leg hair is still asleep for now.

LISALISA- I love Ellen's hair too! I keep looking at hers, Sharon Stone's and Hally Barry's and just hoping to get to that stage by the end of the year and rock a chic pixie cut! So adorable and looks so easy to style!

    hi

    Arnie

I started femara last year after two years of tamoxifen.  My hair line slightly withdrew, I used regain and it is OK now. I gained 10 pounds but I lost two when I watched my diet.  Ask your doctor I you need to chech your bone density now so you will have a reference.

TRISH - I did the same thing with my underarm hair.   My daughter said to me one day, I think you need to shave Mom and I looked down and couldn't believe that I had hair back, I never even realized it.  I cropped the pic of me at 4 weeks and posted it below (if you compare the two you can see how fast it grew).  Your's will kick in too and you won't believe how much you have.  OMG, I look at it now and can't believe I was out with nothing on my head.  I also had no brows or lashes here and now they are back. I'm hoping for that <did it on purpose pixie cut> soooooon!  LOL  HUGS, Dawn

Hey all- sorry I have been MIA, it's been a biiig week for me (began with my first mammo after DX, same day as Mom of Boys and Lbrewer came to see Joseph, how lucky for me to have y'all to share it with, and its been non stop morning and night ever since, including chelev on Wednesday, lucky lucky moi : ) )

What fun!  Mom of Boys' southern drawl almost made "ayuhdeecee" sound exotic ;P

Joseph's salon is just a few blocks from my place, so I can pretty much come to meet anyone who comes- like a party down the street.

Trish, I am so happy to hear that the nurse reached out to you.  I guess she was just making a poorly delivered attempt to "josh" you.  Good thing it's hard to misinterpret a hug :)

Lbrewer- Your boss?  Really?  How COOL!!!!!  And it just gets better from here girl :)

Chelev is in town somewhere still, I haven't bothered her because I knew the event was like yesterday but I will try to snag her tomorrow :)

Chris - I hope to see ya when ya come in!

Hi all, hope everyone is doing GREAT! You ladies that had your hair done.......how about pics???

Mimi, I am a year out from chemo, my curls are haning on strong! I finally bought a flat iron, but it took me almost an hour to do my hair!

Rachel, how did the keratin treatment work? Did we make the blue school?

Chelev, hope you are having a fabulous time.

    Many hugs, Lori

Lori- I got pics of all the girls who came to see Joseph, but its up to them if they will allow me to post 'em  -I also got them to do the BC.org "secret handshake" me and my RADs BC org pal Mary came up with when we met:

We asked this nice passerby to take our pic:

Then we explained how we met and asked her to take this one:

So I got the Hair Hair Hair girls to do the same, but they are not sure if they want that posted... I do have some "clean" pics too... so lbrewer, mom of boys and chelev... lemme know? I keep my word, I won't post without permission :)

So you DID do the flat iron thing!  Did it work?  Joseph told me (Joseph correct me if I am wrong) that if you have enough hair to get in the flat iron, you can do the keratin treatment.  I insisted on the keratin treatment that does not have formaldehyde, and actually got the last batch of the brand (there's another brand without formaldehyde Joseph says) and I took before and after pics, I will post as soon as I can.   He warned me a lot that the kind I was using would NOT straighten my hair, only make it more manageable, and it has.  Its just better and softer - it was getting scratchy and impossible to manage.  So when he gets back on this thread maybe he can explain what kind of effects you can expect from the treatments keratin with and without formaldehyde, and also Japanese Straightening.  Although Japanese Straightening can't be used on processed hair, so that's another thing.

I was thinking for you to get one of those inexpensive DIY circle extension things in a curly style and color you like, then use whatever - keratin and color and the flat iron (and I really don't see why you'd have to have the keratin done in the salon if you can blow dry, section and spritz your hair with the stuff, then flat iron it yourself) to color your hair to match the temporary extension thing, ending up with long, curly red hair for the honeymoon and some weeks as a temporary fix until you get some more length.

How long was your hair when you flat ironed it straight?  I am imagining that in a couple months it should be getting close to your chin, and long enough for your own bangs.

I texted Chelev yesterday in case she lost my number, maybe I should have been more clear, but I think and hope she's just out and about having the best time in the city.  It's been a crazy week in NYC, the UN meeting of all the heads of state of all the members turned the city upside down, the weather was perfect yesterday and today its raining.  So darling whereeer you are I hope you are having a BLAST and I want to hear all the details! :D

Okay, everyone, I am back!!!  First of, THANK YOU to Rachel for hooking me up with Joseph.  My hair color is perfect - rich and dark brown and looks SO much better!!!!  I did end up getting it cut a little more by the hairstylist for the makeover, he took the back wavy stuff off and texturized it a little more.  It's cute, but I still can't wait for it to grow.  I want bang extensions or something!!  But, I will say Joseph took amazing care of me when I literally ran in with only barely two hours to do color and run back uptown - it was definitely traffic city with all of the UN and Presidential stuff going on (right across the street from my hotel of course!!).  I wish I could have stayed longer and hung out with both Joseph and Rachel, who ran down in the heat and humidity with her adorable son on her back to meet me for all of 30 minutes!!!!!!!   Rachel, it was a super busy weekend, and I'm sorry I didn't have more time with you - next visit to NYC, definitely!!!  Glad the court went okay!

Now . . . I am so disappointed - I was getting dressed yesterday morning and noticed MY EYELASHES are falling back out!!!!  I've noticed my brows getting thinner too - and one of the other women who won the NY trip who is about the same time out from chemo as me - 5 months, is having the same problem.  What the heck???????    I am going to definitely have to get Latisse now, this is depressing and here I am touting how wonderful I feel and how the LGFB was so beneficial during that time, and what??  It's that time again??????  Is this typical for post chemo?

You can put rogaine on your eyebrows too.  just use a q tip.  Yes its common for them to fall out agina unfortunately.  Most of them grew in at the same time and since all our hairs eventually die and fall out, they tend to die at the same time.  Latiisse extends the grwoth phase, but if you stop using it, out the come again!

Rachel, you can post my pic, just not the secret handshake ones!

Rachel, thanks for the info. I did get the flat iron and used it. My hair is long enough. As for any of the other stuff, I don't have time to get it. I am leaving Wednesday to drive to Phoenix (4 hour drive) then off to Hawaii on Thursday. I don't use the flat iron every day, it takes too long! Took me an hour the first time I did it and I am affraid if I use it alot, I will damage my hair. I will look into the keratine when I get back. Great pics, I think I remember seeing them on an earlier post.

Chelev, I am so sorry you are having your eyelashes and eyebrows fall out again. Especially after getting your makeover and feeling sooooo good about yourself. I have read from other gals that have that happen. Are you on herceptin? Or maybe it is from whatever your chemo was. I did adrymiacin, cytoxin and taxol. Knock on wood, I have not had mine fall out. But those that did, say they come back quickly!

At some point I will post another pic, I just don't know if I will have time before I leave.

    Hugs to all, Lori

chelev - I am 21 weeks pfc, and I am noticing my brows thinning and my lashes (if this make sense) seem weak (when I put mascara on, they bend and clump).  I am hoping they do not fall all they way out this time.  I really do not want to go through that again. enough is enough.  Just when I was starting to feel goo about myself again.

I must have missed something on Keratin.  What is that supposed to do?

Joseph - any advice on cut or how to manage these curls?  products?

lbrewer - thanks for the info - it never occured to me that they would do their regrowth cycle at the same time.  That really stinks!!

Nodapearl and Goldie - I know!!  Just when I started to feel really good about myself and thinking, hey, I'm not that bad looking now, and pow!!  All over again.  I'm not on any kind of medication except tamoxifen.

    goldie0827:

Not sure if you've tried this, but I used to flat iron my VERY curly long hair. However, if I didn't use a serum, it took way too long and I had to go over the same hair too many times risking damage.  I liked Paul Mitchell's product.  I would clip up my completely dry hair and work from the back forward and up.  Put a dime sized drop of the product in my hands, rub together, then work through the hair.  Then straighten small sections at a time, running a comb through behind the flat iron to make sure it stayed straight and started to cool asap.  Repeat serum and flat iron with each section.

    I hope this helps -
