Look for DevaCurl hair products. It is a line made for curls. I have 5 inches of chemo curls that are kept under control thanks to this product. Its 100% sulfate free and has a color treated line as well as a no lather line. Amazing stuff...I have curls not frizz!

I agree. Koryn and Blake, you are both fantastically beautiful women! I wish my hair would do something like either of you instead of going into this Kewpie curl. Please tell me that it will grow out if it. On facebook, I feel like putting my avatar back to the John Doe pic because that is what my hair looks like. lol
Every minute of it,
Nancy

Nancy - after I had my chemo-fuzz cut off, my hair has decided to now spring up like some sort of very bushy, afro-y thing!! I can try to get it to lay down, but it has decided that now it is free from the duck fuzz, it has it's curl on. I look like my mother in the '70s, with that close cropped afro perm she had. Not a good look!

Help with my wig please.
Hi all. Thank you posting pics, they are so great and encouraging to see. I'm having a problem with my wig and hope someone can help me. I had my hair buzzed off and what's left looks like a five o'clock shadow. I had a custom human hair wig made that looks amazing (hard to tell its not a wig) The wig stays on with five adhesive strips (3 along my hair line and 2 along the back of my neck. Problem is that every time I take it off the adhesive strips pull out more and more of my five oclock shadow stubble and OUCH! The wigmaker said that eventually all those hairs will be gone and my scalp will be completely bald and smooth so the tape will not hurt BUT what about when my hair starts to grow back?? I don't want the tape to pull out whatever new hair is trying to com back.
Is it true that all the stubble will fall out too??
Has anyone experienced something like this before??
Thanks for any input.

Rickirev.....I have a custom made human hair wig also and in the beginning, I used the tape only on the front hairline to hold it down and it pulled out what little bit of hair I had each time I took it off. So, I decided not to use the tape at all anymore. It stays perfectly on my head without the tape and I have worn mine for almost 6 months now. AND, your hair may not neccessairly all fall out to be smooth or bald, mine did not. I had shaved mine down to a #4 guard and it did get very thin. I wanted to keep every little hair I have especially without it getting ripped out from the tape. Now my hair is about an inch long and I am still wearing my wig and yes, that tape would pull it out too if I still used it.0

Hi chevlev! I think your hair looks great! Is your avatar pic after your haircut? Glad you are getting on with your sister now. Isn't Debbie a hoot? You never know what she will do or say next. Have a great weekend!

Hi, Nancy! No, this is before my haircut - it is much curlier now that she cut all of the chemo fuzz off. I'm using this molding cream to try and spike it and smooth it a little. She cut the weirdo sideburns into something cute and feathery and textured the back a little. Now just looks like an intentional super short cut. I'm glad we're back to almost normal again - it was definitely hard getting through the toughest parts without her. I'm acting as her venting person and grief counselor - she's getting a lot of grief over my father passing away suddenly out - which is good because we're coming up on the 2 year anniv. and she needs to deal with it. once I realized she was withdrawing for that reason and not for anything I did, I was just content to wait it out until she realized it.
I love your hair - the blonde color and the way it is growing in - you look fierce!!!

Chelev- I have had a similar story with my own sister during this time. I can relate so much. She and I have been very close and talk several times a day and she lives 5 minuets from me. ONce i was diagnosed she got really distant. Have you talked about your feelings with your sister, if so how did you approach it. I have been reluctant to bring up the subject at this point. It has gotten so tense between us that I am afraid of a blow up.
NANCY- i agree, your hair is looking really good! Very chic! I cant wait to have enough to color. It is growing but not fast enough! I am only 6 weeks out, but looking forward to that week 15 that seems to be the magic number!

Hi Chelev,
I'm glad I can finally get your name right! No matter, your hair is really coming together. It is going to really look good for NYC. I've noticed the super short cut is in. I met through facebook only tonight my sons long lost aunt and she complimented me on my cut and wanted to get hers done. She didn't know my history so I told her I had to thank chemo to that for my cut. She sent a pm later and she is a really sweet lady. My blonde is actually my white hair but the black center hair only comes out a dark blonde. People think I've had it done that way. I'm just so glad to go out and face John Q, Public without the stares.
You are a very good, patient, and thoughtful sister to help your sister deal with grief of which you have just as much. People handle grief differently and we never know till the time comes. I'm glad you are there for her. I wish you continued good progress with the healing.
trishk, you will get there my dear. And it does seem that 15 is that magical number.I am seeing a difference everyday. Good luck to you and please let us know how you get on. Your complements have really boosted my ego when I needed it. They say angels walk among us. You never know if God is going to use you.
Sweet weekend everyone,
Nancy

They say time heals all wounds, and I can tell you now how true that is. I am certainly not making light of hair loss, but I am now on the other side and I would like to share how I am feeling. I have said all along this journey, that in my case anyway, the anticipation of each hurdle was always worse than the hurdle itself. That includes chemo, rads and hairloss.
I finished chemo last Jan. 6th and rads mid March. My hair started showing stubble after about six weeks out.....................that was a very long six weeks. I was sure I was in that small group who did not get there hair back. In April I went "topless" as soon as there was some hair all over my scalp. I looked very trendy. By June I really had what looked like a planned very short hairstyle. I had already gone for two trims of my side and back of head, but now went for my first all around trim. I asked them for a no haircut, haircut......................just to give it some shape. They were great and I have had that done twice, the last one being three weeks ago. Now I need to go for a real haircut. I wear my hair short anyway, but now it is just too long, can you believe it. Also it was rather thin in the beginning (pre dx I had very, very thick hair), but now it has really filled in.
The point I am making is that on October 13th (oh how we remember some dates) it will be the one year anniversary of when I started chemo and I am completely back to me.....................at least for my hair.
I hope this will be inspirational to those of you waiting for your hair, really it will be here before you know it...................I promise!!

sharon - yes, it stayed sore and tender for me - some days it is still tight, a little tender under the arm - my lumpectomy / lymph node removal was February 27. I think it takes a really long time to heal.
caren - that is definitely news that I think we all want to hear!!!! To know that it will come back as it was before or maybe better is wonderful to hear. I know I was relieved to see that the thickness is really coming back, i've got quite a lot of hair now, except for the sides - still thin, but I think it will improve. Great to hear and happy news from you!

I colored my hair 3 months after chemotherapy. I hated the gray patch in front of my hair.

Caren - you are very lucky. We're just about on the same schedule. My first chemo was 9/29 of last year. Right now, I have about 2 inches of unruly, mostly straight hair that I can't do anything with. I want my long hair back. I'd be happy to have at least enough hair to pin back with a barrett or put a head bandin or something.

Hey everyone, Just a quick question? Have hair coming in before treatment ends, does chemo slow the growth(taxotere)??? How quick does this stuff thicken up and color up also???. I am looking at it to much hoping for more. Hugs Dianne

CHELEV - I finally got it, with lot of help from my hubby. WOOHOO! This is me today at 9 weeks PFC. I have most of my eyebrows back and my lashes are all in as thick as they were before but I only have about 2/3 of the length. I wish you well in NY this week - You go and ROCK that town girlfriend.
All of you other ladies out there, I hope for lots of hair for you. I've been a little absent from this thread but wanted to show you where I am at this stage of the game.
HUGS, Dawn

Hey Ladies,
I had a wondrous day at my salon today. I got to meet and color mom of boys hair. lbrewer happened to be back in NYC ( I colored her hair two weeks ago) and of course Rachel _BC, the ringleader, were there too. It was so nice to see the girls meet for the first time and share stories and get to know each other. But more Importantly it was nice to hang out in the salon looking and feeling fabulous!! Jan and Lyn, it was such a pleasure meeting you both!! Enjoy your hair color in good health and keep lookin gorgeous!!!!!

Joseph,
My son is getting married Oct. 3rd and I would love to try and arrange a trip to NY to have my hair colored and trimmed before the wedding. How far out are you booked?? It is so nice having someone in the salon industry to give us a little lift! Our hair has becoming such a focus right now...it is usually the last sign of being a cancer patient to finally leave us!
Thanks for your support..
Chris

@ ChrisC433: Hello Chris, I am pretty booked but I try to make time for out of towners, especially from this forum. I would suggest booking as soon as possible though. I would think at one week before but no more then two weeks before the wedding. Salon info can be found on my website www.josephmullencolor.com Would love to see you!
@lbrewer: Thats awesome! Let me know how everyone likes the makeover!

joseph mullen - I know you are working with color issues, but do you have any advice on what to do with cut? How about these curls? I cannot find a product that works well with the curls, and I had curly hair pre-chemo, so I am no stranger to curly hair.

Hi all, I'm finally sharing a photo of my hair. This was taken late August after my 1st hair cut since chemo. My hair is really thick and was getting bushy. I also had some highlights put in.
I ended chemo mid - April, so this is 4 months post chemo or so. But, I shaved my head again after that last chemo as it just seemed like "chemo hair" to me LOL!
Chelev - please share more info about your makeover! so happy for you!!!!!

LisaLisa - I would kill to have that much hair!!! I finished up the end of May and don't have anything like you have!! What is your secret?? You look beautiful!

Hi Jancie,
Thanks so much for the compliment! Really, all I can recommend is Biotin. It's a supplement that I get at Whole Foods and I haven't even taken it in the last month or so (I'm tired of popping pills and cut all that down to basics like Vit D3, Arimidex, etc.)Oh, I also want to wish you a FUN Vegas weekend! I was on that list for the longest time but ended up with too many other trips out of town and just couldn't justify it. Our family went on a long road trip this summer and stayed in Vegas for a few days...and Utah too (more south than you). ENJOY!!!!!!
0 -
LisaLisa - you will have to join us next year in Vegas! I am sure that we will be doing this on a yearly basis now. We did end up with some great hotel deals, special priced packages from different bars, etc. so it wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be. Next time you get to Utah - or at least around my area - let me know!
I have been taking 10,000 mcg of Biotin daily. I started taking it 3 weeks prior to finishing chemo as my oncologist said that it would be fine for me to take. I hate the fact that I have to take those 2 pills every single night but if it is going to help me grow hair then I am all over it. I will forget to take other medication but I never forget to take my biotin! Do you think that maybe the Vitamin D3 is helping since you haven't been taking the Biotin? Did your hair always grow so fast?
My hair always grew painfully slow all my life so I am not surprised I don't have more. I know the rule of thumb is 1/2" a month but my hair doesn't grow that fast. I have a little over 1" now and I will be 4 months out of chemo on Sept 27th. (May 27th to Sept 27th - 4 months right?) I always question my math as far as calendar days/months since my hair is not growing fast enough!

Lisa, wow!!!! You have a TON of hair-way more than me!!
