For some reason, I decided to shave my head 3 weeks pfc.  I liked being bald.  My 10 year old was mortified, my 5 year old thought it was cool and could I show all his friends and my 3 year old was oblivious.  I hated my wig and wore it for only 20 min.  I wore hats.  At 8 weeks post shave, i was going topless.  i never really lost all my eyebrows or lashes, but they did get shorter and sparser.  I used to have long thick lashes and now they are just average.  My hair came back greyer, softer and curlier.  I get frequent compliments on it.  Now at 4 months post shave, I am getting close to needing a trim just to give it more style.

Here I am at shave day, 3 weeks post shave, 4 weeks shave, and 3 months post shave

thisisme- Wow! Your hair grew really fast and even! You look great!!

Mine is growing much slower and more sporatic. I had a massage last week at my hospital in the physical therapy dept. The massage therapist said I should mix rosemary oil and olive oil and massage it on my scalp. I told her that I would want to eat that instead! At least it would smell great!!

    That's great growth, thisisme!

I am getting much  longer hair on top in the front and back portions of the crown and the back is very weirdly wavy in the middle and kinky-curly at the bottom.  I am thinking of maybe getting it relaxed to help relieve some of the kink and at least give me something I can attempt to style.  Plus I am hoping it will help it lay down some - it seems to want to grow vertically and only stands up now.  My DH has started calling me "Punky Rooster."

Thanks all!  My hair is still getting curlier each day.  How long do these chemo curls last?

My hair is definitely growing in but it appears my sides and back are filling in heavier than the crown and top of my head.  There is definitely hair growing there, but it is all white and appears to be sparser than the sides and back.  My last chemo was on 9/10/09, so I am about 2 months out.  Will the top catch up to the sides and back, or does it mean my top will remain thinner than the rest of my hair.  I never had this problem prior to losing my hair, so I just assumed I would grow back just fine.  I realize it's still early, but was just wondering from some of you that have already gone through this.  Thanks,

    Linda

    LRM216:

I finished chemo just before you and I lost all my hair.  My pic is from last Friday - 10 weeks PFC.  I didn't see much of anything until weeks 4-5.  The top and sides came in after the back.  I can still see my scalp, but it is filling in pretty evenly.  Grow - grow - grow!

    Be good to you -

LRM216 - I am 3.5 months pfc and I have very short hair all over my head, but it does take time.

I will send the patience fairy your way : )

LRM216, I am 5 months PCH and still need to wear a wig. I also have the same as you -- thicker on the sides and thinner on top. My scalp still shows through. This is my second time going through this ... the first time it grew back evenly and quickly. By 4 months I needed a haircut/trim. This time, I don't know.

Thisisme:  You look great. I am 6 weeks PFC and not much is happening.  I have a few stands sticking right up that never fell off during chemo but not much else seems to be growing.  I was wondering if you had these funny litle hairs on your head before you shaved it off. I have been considering shaving in the hopes it will grow back evenly and stong as it did with you.

Any advice from any of you ladies is greatly appreciated !!

    Marie

Hi Marie111 - good to hear from you.

I would not do anything at 6 weeks pfc - it is still very early. I would give it a few more weeks and see if anything starts to come through.

LRM216 - how are you doing today?

    Hugs to all, Judy x

Alright I dyed my hair 2 weeks ago on Saturday and I didn't leave it on for long enough so it is a little orangish even after using the purple shampoo.  Can I dye it again now ??  I am going to be addicted to hair dye and in the past I would only tint my blonde hair once a year :(  Now I have a brown color that does not look good on me at all so I am trying to change the color.  My hairdresser told me to by clairol #9 and it only helped a little bit.

So anyhow would it be safe to dye it again so soon ??

Hi all, can anyone recommend a natural hair color product? I am going to color it on Monday but don't want to use a chemical one yet.

Thanks and have a good night, hugs, Judy xx

Finally got a picture of me without the wig!  This is 4 months post TX.  Getting thick and still very curly...  Not much I can do with it yet.  I had it trimmed last week (around neck and ears).  Need to add a little dye to cover the grays!

    Marie,

I never lost ALL my hair, I did buzz it down to about.25 inch when it began to fall out but left the wisps around my hairline so I would have some hair under my hat.  Those never completely fell out, although they did get very sparse.  Anyway, don't forget that you lost your hair around 3 weeks after first chemo, so don't expect your hair to grow back during the first 3 weeks pfc.  Then consider that it takes a bit for it grow long enough to push through your scalp.  So don't even expect to see anything to at least 6-7weeks pfc.  my pix are post shave which was 3 weeks pfc.Which means that the second pix is actually 7-8 weeks pfc.

My last Taxol was 6/15/09.  Soooo. 4 months and 3 days!!!  I am happy with the regrowth, but the curls are hard to get used to!

Hi ChrisC433 - Mine is coming through, but I cannot tell if it is straight or curly yet. I used to be curly and used to straighten it, so my guess is it will come through curly.

What products do you use for the curl?

At least it is coming through, so I shouldn't complain.

Hugs to all for a good evening, Judy xxx

Ok, so I bought "naturtint" from wholefoods. Has anyone used that product?

Should I be worried that my hair is going to fall out again from it?

    Hugs, Judy x

Judy:  I dyed mine with natual instincts the first time and then just nice and easy.  My hair did not fall out!  It is still very soft.  The grays seem to be sprouting everywhere...

I use Paul Mitchell's Curl Definer.  My stylist told me to stop fighting the curls and just work with them.  I was using gel to try to flatten them, but NOOOO they sprang back up by midday!

    Take care...

Thisisme, I don't know about anyone else, but I am 1 year and 2 months PFC.....and no sign of the curls/frizz going anywhere!

I too used the Nat. Instincts at an early stage and Spring used something called Henna (I think)

I have come up with a new style, will post when I get the picture loaded. Then new SD card I got is HD (hight def) and my lap top is too old to read it, and my new computer doesn't have a card reader on it, and my card reader device to plug into the computer is too old and won't read it! So beware if you buy a HD SD card!

hairhairI was coming here to read your posts for months before I finished chemo and thought I would share my hair growth. I am now 13 weeks PFC. This was taken last week. My hair was much lighter before chemo but I guess I dont look too bad with the darker color. Thank you ladies for posting all of your pics. It really does encourage others who are starting the process. It did me :)

Alright can someone (maybe a hairdresser) help me please.  So I dyed my hair last night light blond and it's back to being a light brown.  I am trying to get blond hair not brown :(  Don't get me wrong I am grateful for the hair I have but I really do not look so good in brown hair.

Stephanie1: You look great !! What did you do to get your hair to grow like that.  I am 6 weeks PFC and like you have been reading these post ever since I started chemo, they were very inspiring. However 6 weeks out I don't have any more hairv then I did while on chemo. Same old hair that never fell out, nothing more.  Did you shave your head completly ? Did you have any hair left during chemo ?

    Thanks, Marie
