    Marie

Thank you so much! I am very glad to be covered enough now to go without a hat. The only thing I did was to use the Nioxin follicle booster system. I ran out of the small bottle about 3 weeks after chemo and didn't buy anymore but I have continued using the shampoo and conditioner daily.

I was as bald as a babies rear - but I never shaved it. Chemo took care of that for me LOL. My hair did start sort of growing about half way through Taxol but it was nothing to write home about. It has been in the last 3 weeks that the hair just started taking off. Just two weeks ago I still had the old man bald spot in the back and wore a hat.

I am using the BED HEAD product "manipulator" to shape it and keep the frizzies under control. That is what is keeping it standing up in front and not looking like it is gelled.

I asked my Oncologist what he thought about Biotin - he said what do you want  to know? I asked can I take it? He said I don't see why not? So I asked "well do you think it works?" He said No not really. I started laughing and said well then I am not going to take it then. The last thing I need is another pill to take.

So the only thing that must be doing this is the Nioxin IMO. Or for once I am lucky this year.

You just need to hang in there. Once it starts to fill in you will be amazed at how much it changes everyday. Keep in mind that in just three weeks you will be to where I saw dramatic improvement at about 10 weeks PFC.

Well!  I finally had my hair trimmed and professionally colored yesterday (7 months post chemo).  The trim and color did wonders.  It's still really short, curly and a little thin on top; but I got the nerve to go without my wig for the first time today.   What a free feeling!!!  I had ordered Moroccan Oil on the advice of a friend to tame the frizzies.  My hairdresser had the product in stock and used it on my hair.  On her recommendation, I bought the shampoo and conditioner also.  These products make a huge difference .  I highly recommend them if your new growth is curly and frizzy

Does the thinness on top remain or does it eventually fill in?

    Stephanie,

What is the Nioxin Follicle Booster System?  Does the product say "Follicle Booster" ?  I've seen some products, but they were just called  "Nioxin" Cleanser and conditioner.  I was just wondering if there is something else out there that's more effective, because you look FABULOUS!

Jamie....I think you should let your hair rest at least a month before you color it again. You said you have colored twice already and if you do it for a third time, you may damage it some. Also, the brown will fade some. Or, I don't know how long your hair is, but you could have some highlights put in, that would cut out some of the brown without coloring over your entire head. Good luck!

    Hi Ladies,

I am almost 12 weeks PFC and my hair is finally covering my head but I want it to grow faster!!  Does Nioxin help it to grow?  Do I need a prescription to get Nioxin or can I purchase it at any beauty salon?  It's coming in gray and would like to be brown, how long do you have to wait before coloring chemo hair?

Your all beautiful!  Love the pics!  I'll send some as soon as I am feeling human again..LOL!!!

lollys- You look great!! I can't wait to go topless!! Good for you!!

Jean09- I actually bought the Nioxin at HEB (grocery store chain in Texas). I was surprised to see it there. I think you can also get it at Sally Beauty Supply. I am using the follicle booster but I'm going to pick up the shampoo next time I get there.

My hair has really started to grow. I'm only 6-1/2 weeks PFC, but all the sudden it has really taken off. Grow hair, grow!!

Hi, ladies!  Hope you don't mind a "newbie" popping in to ask a question.....I am on Taxotere and Cytoxan.  Started to lose my hair right on schedule around day 13 after my first tx, shaved it down to a little "stubble" around day 17. So now I am a little more than a week out after my 2nd tx, and I swear the stubble is growing!  It itches and pokes when I sleep. So what is up with that and what should I do?  Shave it down, let it be?  Is this going to fall out again, grow more or just hang out as it is? Any advice appreciated....thanks!

Lollys, your hair looks terrific. RedheadPam, I was on the same protocol as you. I found that my scalp was very, very tender and I even developed folliculitis. The odds are that the stubble will fall out after the second tx. No one ever tells you that your head will "hurt" but it does settle down. Best wishes as you get through the tx. Judy, I'm still struggling but trying to feel and act normally. I'm back to work 3 days a week and I'm trying to be more active. Unfortunately, the hair situation is still problematic. After more than 5 months PFC, I still keep my head covered as there is not enough hair to cover my scalp. While there is fuzz all over my head, it is very, very thin and growing slowly. I took some pictures and it does appear to be growing from month to month so I'm still hoping that one day, I'll just wake up to a full (even short) head of hair. Others have suggested to me that because this is my second time, those hair follicules may just want to stay asleep but I hope that's not true. .....thanks for asking. Have a good Monday, everyone.

    Hi Janet

Nioxin has several products and systems. I use system one - which includes the shampoo, conditioner and scalp treatment. The follicle booster can be purchased separately. Where are you looking for the product at? You can go to Nioxin.com and research all of their diffferent lines.

Helen - good to hear from you! Hang in there! Has anyone actually told you that the slow rate may be due it this being the second time? I know it sucks! Having to go through all of this - but we are all with you every step! I hope you have a good day!

Lolly the back of your head looks just like mine lol, I'm 11 weeks PFC, and it seems like it grew this much and just slowed down, but mine is coming in curly, had always been straight.

Redheadpam, I was on the taxotere and cytoxan too, and actually ended up shaving my head again a couple of times, the last about 2 weeks after my last treatment, had peach fuzz coming in on the sides, and a mohawk on top, maybe I should have left it, that was blonde and it's a lot darker and more gray now. My eyelashes and eyebrows came back blonde, like they have always been, said it's not fair my hair got darker and my lashes didn't.

You know, I prepared myself for it falling out, but I don't think I got past that, I mean I knew it could come back differently, but didn't really think about it. Thank goodness my hair stylist is very good at fixing color, if only it would get long enough. I'm just happy to have hair

    Have a great day Everyone!

Lollys, When was the picture taken. How many weeks after chemo. You look great. Still waiting to ditch the hat. I thought after a month out chemo it would gone. I had hair come back during taxotere. It still does not cover the scalp. Getting depressed over the hair issue. Ready to go out in public with short hair. Great growing days Dianne

oops, I guess I should have added that I shaved it after my last treatment because it was falling out again, not just because I had a mohawk lol

Hi, everyone!  Well, today is 7 months PFC, so here is the latest of where I am at.  I had my hair relaxed on Saturday - it really took a lot of the poof and fuzz out of the hair, especially the top.  Now it lays and looks like my old hair.  The back is still very wavy and kinky on the bottom - we may redo the back next month:Photobucket" mce_src="7 Months PFC - Back November 2009" mce_src="" alt="" border="" hspace="" vspace="" width="" height="" align="" />" alt="" border="" hspace="" vspace="" width="" height="" align="" />

I am using Matrix Sleek Looks shampoo and conditioner, and the Sleek Look smoothing balm, mixed in with a little shine serum pre-blow dry and then using a little Bumble & Bumble styling mist pre-flat iron, and then some molding paste or wax to piece it out.  Alternating that shampoo with Bed Head's brunette series.
