The last of my long eyelashes fell out in the last few days. All I have now are these really weird stubby little lashes. Not sure if they'll stay. I've heard people say their lashes fell out and regrew 2 or 3 times before it was all said and done. My eyebrows are spotty, but they've never been completely gone either. And I'm  dark haired, so where they've fallen out, it looks like a five o'clock shadow and gives me a line to follow to fill in.

The first hair to come back on me: chin hairs! Now is that a bunch of crap or what???

Marion - that's a wig I'm wearing in my profile pic.  It's a Rene of Paris wig.  It was my favorite, but it got ratty really fast.  I think it's because I left it long (really long compared to my hair).  I wouldn't let the lady who owned the wig shop cut it because I don't like the way she cut my first wig.  I found another wig shop and got a straight version of the wig I'm wearing in my profile pic.  She did an awesome job cutting it.  I should take a picture of myself with it.

I've given up on having lashes grow in.  I have these sparse stubby little lashes. I lost them when I was taking Taxol, but my hair on my head grew on my head.  I started wearing false lashes when I go out.  I'm just tired of not having lashes.  And my brows are still not existent.  :(

LadyinBama, truly, only we can understand the true extent and hilarity of our bizarre situation!!  Chin hairs are about as unfair as my armpit hair, which is LONG, and just about fully in. I have a totally bizarre head of black fuzz up top.

My eyelashes are also just about gone, my eyebrows a moth-eaten carpet. The brow shadow really does the trick, no complaints there.  You don't know what you got 'til it's gone:  my eyelashes were wonderful, and I only noticed them now that I obsessively look at everyone else's.  They were long, and naturally curled up. Hoping they come in fast!

    Head hair, please!!  Please!!

I guess everybody is different. I have no armpit hair, my eyebrows thinned but never completely fall off, my eyelashes stayed through chemo but falling off now, leg hair and "there" coming in. My head is covered with fuzz.

    Hi Ladies,

I finished chemo in August (TCx6), finished radiation on November 11...yea!!!  Have about 3/4" of hair and thin eyebrows.  Problem is the eye lashes!  They pretty much all fell out shortly after I finished chemo, and are starting to grow back.  However, they are growing every which direction - some up, some down, and some sideways.  I have actally had to use tweezers to pluck some that seemed to be growing straight down as they irritated my eyes.  Hope that doesn't keep them from growing back, but didn't know what else to do with them.  Is this weird growth common?  Also have noticed that my right eye has way fewer lashes coming back than the left - so I'm kinda lop-sided, I guess.

Marion:  Love your "punk" picture!  I was too out of it to even think about getting a cool cut.  My husband just cut it a few times with a trimmer until we had to shave it for the hair loss.

TreadSoftly:  Wow congratulations on your graduation and going to school all through treatments!  You are one strong woman-I so could not have done that.  You look absolutely beautiful, even with darker hair.  I had the best skin during chemo--a "chemo glow" if you will LOL!

New Products!!!  I swear I need to start a beauty blog for BC gals.  I no longer like the Marc Anthony product--it's too drying as my hair gets longer.  I have now switched to John Freida's Frizz Ease Straight Fixations Creme and then Pantene's Volume Hair Gel which gives it a nice texture without the frizz.  Much softer then the other product.  The other brilliant find is for eyelashes:  Maybelline Falsies Mascara!!!  I swear it made my eyelashes over an inch long without any glopping.  It doesn't leave any residue until you take it off and it solved the problem of my almost non-existant bottom lashes.  Yay!!!

Kittycat:  Check out the mascara above-I use a curling iron, too, to try and tame the wild hairs which are almost gone now.  I had really nice lashes before all of this, too!

MBJ - seriously, you should try the Luster cream from Sally's...I swear by it.  It's the best one I've tried and I've tried a lot of different products since I've had hair again.

My lashes are also growing in all different directions!  I've now resorted to wearing false eyelashes.  Today I they weren't quite perfect, but I was in a rush. I got some at Sally's.

I bought another wig today.  This one is the same color as my $69 special (straight, long dark wig), but the new one is curly/wavy.  I tried on a blonde wig and looked kind of funny.  I put my blonde wig on last night and thought the same thing.  I've gotten used to being a brunette now - who knew???

I'm going to dye my hair again tomorrow night.  My hair has faded a bit and it'sstill growing in gray (although I'm now seeing a little bit of black hair growing in with the gray).  I'm going to buzz my DH's hair and he's going to color mine!  Maybe drink some wine and hang ornaments, while the color processes.  :)

Kittycat:  I went through the same thing after being blonde for so long and then going brunette!  It's amazing what we get used to.  I purchased one final black wig at the end and was going back and forth between no wig, blonde, brunette, long, short.  Sounds like you are starting to celebrate with christmas cheer early!

sugar:  I'm avoiding Sally's because it's too tempting to buy a whole bunch of hair dye and stuff!!!  I love Sally's and my wallet is always empty after going there.

Sally's is awesome!!!  I was there tonight!  I'm trying to fix my original wigs.  They got all ratty and clumped up after very little time wearing them (and they weren't cheap wigs either).  I am going to thin them out a little bit (got some thinning shears) and see if cutting a little length off the brunette one will work.  I am tempted to buy a blue "Katie Perry" wig.  My DH was jokingly telling me to buy one.  :)

Kittycat:  I think I have that wig LOL!  I got so many complements wearing that one.  My very expensive wigs also got pretty tangled.  They need a hair cut!!!

MBJ - Yeah, I'm going to try it today.  the lady that owns the wig shop where I bought my nice wigs didn't do a very good job of cutting my first one.  She cut it straight across the back and now the ends look bulky.  It needs to be more layered.  I wouldn't let her cut any length off my 2nd wig.  I'm going to try thinning out both wigs and cutting more layers into the brunette one (without totally ruining it).  Did you ever get your wigs steamed? The wig salon owner recommended it, so my friend had hers steamed.  She was disappointed on how it turned out.  She said it really didn't make much of a difference.  Hmmm...

I have a good synthetic one that nobody would say is synthetic. I have to be carefull around oven and dishwasher but was told once it gets frizzy at the ends just to use conditioner and brush and low heat. That is what I am doing without damaging it.

    Another question;

How many of you is showing your bald head to your husband or boyfriend?

I haven't done it yet and I don't know if I want to....

intwoplaces - my husband came with me when I got my hair buzzed off.  He was very supportive.  A couple of his friends were extremely fascinated by the idea of me losing my hair.  So, they stopped by the wig shop and watched the hair extravaganza, too.  It was kind of funny.  I feel sort of strange showing anyone my funny hair now.  When we went camping with some friends, I would put my wig on as soon as I woke up.  I didn't want to scare the kids.

My whole family got together the night we shaved my head.  My daughter cut it short then my som shaved it for me.  I figured if we all got together they would make me laugh instead of crying through a really emotional time.  Losing my hair has been far harder than losing my breast.  My husband, who has been very supportive, had a hard time with my hair loss too.  He said it was the first time he had to look at me and see me as "sick".  He never said for sure, but I am pretty sure he cried in the bathroom afterwards.  I wear a scarf or doo rag most of the time.  I HATE my wig although I paid over $300 for it.  It is itchy and the elastic that keeps it on bites my skin.  I don't know ladies.  If you ask me, we are one tough bunch of women and face many difficult decisions and situations.  My motto these days is cancer is not for sissies.

You all make my day a little easier and a lot less lonely!

My mom started chemo (taxotere, carboplatin and herceptin) on Nov 4.  She started losing some hair last Wednesday, the same day as her 2nd treatment.  She's 68 and has always had very thick hair.  When I saw her on Sunday her hair was thinning, especially at her part area, but she still had a full head of hair.   Is it normal to have so much hair almost a month after starting chemo?  She thought she'd be bald by now.

I understand what you mean and I believe that's the reason I haven't showed my bald head for my DH yet. I guess I will finally do, but I haven't had the guts yet and he doesn't seem too eager to see it either.

Yes, we are a tough bunch of women!

    Hello InTwoPlaces,

My husband hardly saw me bald. I was either wearing a headscarf, a wig or a sleeping hat. I hated seeing myself with no hair.

Bekka - they didn't use a # clipper on me, but I had about a quarter inch of hair.  I looked like GI Jane and my head had all these red sores on it (irritation from losing m hair)I think a #2 would work really well.  It's not too long to where you can't wear a wig, but not too short either.  :)

I loved my wigs until they got ratty.  I've received more compliments on my hair with a wig than I did on my own hair - go figure!

I had long hair, down to my waist. About 10 days after my first chemo, I put it in a ponytail and my husband cut it off and gave me a buzz cut. It's was funny because I had just given my son and hubby a buzz cut the week before...so we all matched. My hubby and I both cried a little but then we got over it. It was summer when it all fell out so I just went around the house bald. Everyone got used to it...I still put on makeup and a nice bright lipstick...and I dressed as cute as possible...I just didn't have my hair anymore. Everyone was fine with it. My family is cool...they said that without all the hair they can finally see how cute my face is...lol...not sure if its true but heck, I'll take it!

    Yes, it does!

But to be honest; I really like to not have to hair blow my hair every morning, that's the only positive thing with BC.

My DH is the one who buzzed my hair, so he was the first to see me bald! My hot flashes are so bad, that I rip off my hat a million times a day; most of the time at home, I don't mess with keeping anything on my head. I went to pick up some new eyeglasses yesterday, and I had to take off my hat to test the fit. I told the girl who was fitting me, watch out! But she was cool with it.

Did everyones hair grow in evenly when it first started...or was it spotty? Mine is just growing in and I have some spots that are longer and thicker than the rest. The front, where I hope my bangs will one day be, it growing the slowest. Is this normal?

poodleluvbug: my hair grew back evenly (no spots with thicker or longer hair), but the front (where bangs are) took longer to grow.
